• Configure server on network to analyze traffic

  I have the following network: http://i.stack.imgur.com/rapkH.jpg I want to send all the traffic from the devices that connect to the 192.168.0.1 router to the 192.168.10.1 router(and eventually to the Internet), by passing through the server and an additional router. Almost 2 days have passed and I can't figure what is wrong. While searching on the Internet for some similar configuration I found some articles that are somehow related to my needs, but the proposed solutions don't seem to work for me. This is a similar article: iptables forwarding between two interface I done the following steps for the configuration process: Set static IP address 192.168.1.90 for the eth0 on the server from the 192.168.1.1 router Set static IP address 192.168.0.90 for the eth1 on the server from the 192.168.0.1 router Forwarded all the traffic from 192.168.0.1 router to the server on eth1 interface witch seems to be working. The router firmware has some option to redirect all the traffic from all the ports to a specified address. Added the following rules on the server(Only the following, there aren't any additional rules): iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth1 -j MASQUERADE iptables -A FORWARD -i eth1 -o eth0 -m state -–state RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables -A FORWARD -i eth0 -o eth1 -j ACCEPT I also tried changing iptables -A FORWARD -i eth1 -o eth0 -m state -–state RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT into iptables -A FORWARD -i eth1 -o eth0 -j ACCEPT but still is not working. After adding the following to enable the packet forwarding for the server that is running CentOS: echo 1 /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward sysctl -w net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1 After a server restart and extra an extra check to see that all the configuration from above are still available I tried to see again if I can ping from a computer connected to 192.168.0.1/24 LAN the router from 192.168.1.1 but it didn't worked. The server has tshark(console wireshark) installed and I found that while sending a ping from a computer connected to 192.168.0.1 router to 192.168.1.1 the 192.168.0.90(eth1) receives the ping but it doesn't forward it to the eth0 interface as the rule tells: iptables -A FORWARD -i eth1 -o eth0 -j ACCEPT and don't now why this is happening. Questions: The iptables seem that don't work as I am expecting. Is there a need to add in the NAT table from iptables rules to redirect the traffic to the proper location, or is something else wrong with what I've done? I want to use tshark to view the traffic on the server because I think that is the best at doing this. Do you know something better that tshark to capture the traffic and maybe analyze it?

• Don't understand [0:0] iptable syntax

  I'm struggling with some iptables rules. I'm a newbie in iptables. I found some resources where I get the following command related to iptables. This is stored in a file that will be executed. [0:0] -A PREROUTING -s 10.1.0.0/24 -p tcp -m tcp --dport 81 -j DNAT --to-destination 10.1.0.6:3128 Can anybody explain me what does [0:0] mean? Also, some link related to this in iptables are welcome. Thanks in advance! P.S. If you need more rules, just let me know.

  I'm trying to figure out which processes are deleting files from a specific directory, so I want to set up and run auditd on my system. I've set up the following rule in audit.rules: -w S unlink -S truncate -S ftruncate -a exit,always -k cache_deletion -w /home/myfolder/cache Then I type this to start the audit daemon: auditctl -R /etc/audit/audit.rules -e 1 But I get this error message: Error - nested rule files not supported Does anyone know what I am doing wrong here, and how I can resolve this? Also, what do I have to do to get the daemon running at startup?

• iptables to allow input and output traffic to and from web server only

  I have an Elastic Search server which seems to have been exploited (it's being used for a DDoS attack having had NO firewall for about a month). As a temporary measure while I create a new one I was hoping to block all traffic to and from the server which wasn't coming from or going to our web server. Will these iptables rules achieve this: iptables -I INPUT \! --src 1.2.3.4 -m tcp -p tcp --dport 9200 -j DROP iptables -P FORWARD \! --src 1.2.3.4 DROP iptables -P OUTPUT \! --src 1.2.3.4 DROP The first rule is tried and tested but obviously wasn't preventing traffic coming from my server to other IP addresses so I was hoping I could add the second two rules to full secure it.

  I have a DB schema composed of MYISAM tables, i am interested to delete old records from time to time from some of the tables. I know that delete does not reclaim the memory space, but as i found in a description of DELETE command, inserts may reuse the space deleted In MyISAM tables, deleted rows are maintained in a linked list and subsequent INSERT operations reuse old row positions. I am interested if LOAD DATA command also reuses the deleted space? UPDATE I am also interested how the index space reclaimed?

• LAN full of public ipv4 addresses - How to filter it?

  The answer to my question maybe is not that hard but anyways, I do not know what to do. So, I just got in a new job in a Univerisity and I found out that the network (the LAN) is full of public IP addresses. Seriously, the whole LAN (probably more than 150 hosts) has it' own internet IP address and I don't know how to manage it. I have a very good experience using iptables (Linux firewall) in a NAT'ed environment. But then how should I proceed in an environment where all my LAN is working with a bunch of public IP addresses? Should I just use the "forward" rules and ignore the NAT rules or is there any other issue in such environment which I should take care? Can I add a firewall between the router and the LAN in order to produce packet filtering for these public IP addresses in my LAN or will this just not work? Thanks!

• Iptable Rule to redirect all traffic requesting a specific domain

  I'm on a simple linux proxy. I'd like to add iptable rules to drop all requests for a specific domain. I figured I run a dig command to get the ip addresses for the domain and then add an iptable rule for each one. It seems, however, that it doesn't work to bind to more than one ip address. So, it seems I need to add ip ranges like this... iptables -I FORWARD -p tcp -m iprange --dst-range 66.220.144.0-66.220.159.255 --dport 443 -j DROP That seems to work. However, it has proven pretty problematic to parse the output of dig and correctly create the appropriate iptable rules. Is there a better way? Thanks! EV

  I've done a little research into ModRewrite rules and conditions but have not been able to find a satisfactory set of rules/conds which achieve the effect I'm looking for. Essentially, I have a directory on domain A (http://www.domaina.com/dir/) which I would like to redirect to a different directory on domain B (http://www.domainb.com/diff_dir/). Note that I only want to apply the rewrite rule if the user is attempting to access /dir/ on domaina. If they are accessing a different directory or root I do not want to rewrite the URL. Thank you!

• Apache not responding in amazon ec2

  Well this might sound awkward but I facing terrible issue with my Amazon EC2 instance one of the finding I see is that apache is not responding on port 80 which is weird because I can't even find the incoming packet to port 80 in tcpdump output As per the security rules all security rules are in place correctly at least in amazon console I restarted the apache to listen to port 8080 and added port 8080 and add 8080 to security rule and everything work but I cant just able to understand as to why the port 80 not responding Needless to say since port 8080 is responding all my CNAME and A-record is working too UPDATE No firewall issue either I just cross check the iptables and list is empty Can some share a light on this

  I'm trying to optimize my .htaccess file to avoid performance issues. In my .htaccess file I have something that looks like this: RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} bigbadbot [NC,OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} otherbot1 [NC,OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} otherbot2 [NC] RewriteRule ^.* - [F,L] The first rewrite rule (bigbadbot) handles about 100 requests per second, whereas the other two rewrite rules below it only handle a few requests per hour. My question is, since the first rewrite rule (bigbadbot) handles about 99% of the traffic would it be better to place these rules into two separate rulesets? For example: RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} bigbadbot [NC] RewriteRule ^.* - [F,L] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} otherbot1 [NC,OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} otherbot2 [NC] RewriteRule ^.* - [F,L] Can someone tell me what would be better in terms of performance?   This is my first post here in programmers.stackexchange (I'm a regular on SO). I hope this isn't too general. I'm trying a simple project to learn Java from something I've seen done in the past. Basically, it's an AI simulation where there are herbivorous and carnivorous creatures and both must try to survive. The part I am trying to come up with is that of the board itself. Let's assume very simple rules. The board must be of size X by Y and only one element can be in one place at one time. For example, a critter cannot be in the same tile as a food block. There can be obstacles (rocks, trees..), there can be food, there can be critters of any type. Assuming these rules, what would be one good way to represent this situation ? This is what I came up with and want suggestions if possible: Use multiple levels of inheritance to represent all the different possible objects (AbstractObject - (NonMovingObject - (Food, Obstacle) , MovingObject - Critter - (Carnivorous, Herbivorous))) and use polymorphism in a 2D array to store the instances and still have access to lower level methods.
