• Send mail from my web application

  I have a feature in my web app like I have to send mails from the server to many email ids (some kind of notification stuff) my web application is implemented in struts2. Possibly I have to use javamail api i guess. I am completely new to this javamail and sending mail from server. what basic steps I need to do to setup a mail server in windows, contact the server from my java web app. What api i should I use ? The web has very limited tutorials on javamail and they are damn complicated too. Is there any other api other than javamail by which I can send mail from my java struts2 web app. thanks

• PHP: Facebook stream.publish and outdated template bundles?

  Ok So I haven't tried messing with the facebook PHP API for months.. it's gross. Since template bundles are apparently now defunct, how can I publish a story into my users news feed for their friends? I've also already requested permissions. Edit: The issue seems to arise from requested permissions not being set for the user when They are granted. • AJAX with Ruby on Rails?

  This is probably a really dumb question with a simple answer but... I am working on a project where I need to use AJAX to send/receive information. I am using Ruby on Rails (which I am pretty new to), but rather than using the helper methods or the built in functionality in the 'defaults' Javascript file, I need to do this manually in my own Javascript. I believe that ultimately I will want to send a request with a JSON object, then have the controller return another JSON object containing the requested information. The problem is that I cannot seem to find the syntax for sending something to a specific controller method, with parameters, directly from Javascript - everything I Google ends up being tutorials for using the Rails AJAX helper methods.

• Where is App.config?

  I'm trying to set up logging with Microsoft's Enterprise Library (log4net seems to be a dead project). I'm using VB .NET 2008 and VS 2008. I've searched all over the MSDN documentation, CodePlex docs (including the Hands-On labs that installed and then vanished), and online tutorials to no avail. They all refer to a mysterious "configuration file" or "App.config" that I can't find and can't seem to add. I even tried adding a new text file and renaming it "App.config" but that only made VS 2008 spit out a red wavy line on a blank file. Any suggestions for finding the elusive app.config would be greatly appreciated. (and, if that makes the EntLib configuration tool show up, I'll be absolutely delighted) Edit: I've been tricked! The tree in VS 2008 isn't a true superset-subset relationship, which is why I got so frustrated. To wit, the top of the tree: And a 'sub-section' of the tree.

  Hi, I'm trying to transform some XML-data to HTML with XSLT for my bachelor thesis. My professor wants me to consider XSL-FO too, or at least to write some word about it. But I'm very noob to this. So my questions are: Can I combine FO with HTML? Can I use FO istead of HTML and CSS? If yes, how will my browser render this? Are there any examples/tutorials on how to transform xml into web pages with FO? Thank you very much.

• Xcode missing Command Line Utility section - can't start Foundation project template

  I downloaded the iPhone SDK from the iPhone dev center a couple of days ago and installed it yesterday. I'm following the Stanford iPhone development tutorials available on iTunes U. On Assignment 1B, the first instruction is to open a new Foundation Project template. The screenshot shows several sections in Xcode which my version doesn't seem to have, including the Command Line Utility section which the Foundation Project template is shown to be in. Does this need to be installed manually? I tried searching on Google with no luck. The fact that I'm an OS X newbie doesn't really help any either. Thanks in advance!

• Selecting contents of Label Control

  Hi All I have what I consider to be a pretty unique problem here, and no idea how to implement. From what I've seen, there is no documentation, tutorials, samples and/or articles on this. I've spent weeks researching, with nothing to show. The problem: I need the user to be able to select the contents of a Label Control at runtime, and edit it. If this can be done by extending the existing Label control, great! Or, if this requires a whole new Label Control to be created, fine. So be it. Using a TextBox is not an option I'm afraid. While posting their tips - I've recently implemented the option where they can post that tip to their facebook wall as well. They simply check the box - saying "Post to Facebook" and then the facebook pop-up opens up where they login and publish the tip to their facebook wall. Now I want to add the new functionality where they can post it to their twitter feed as well directly from my website. Are there any tutorials that show how to implement this. Thanks

• Facebook - using an external flash application to connect via PHP

  So, I have this application that needs to connect to facebook. It uses php for all of its data access, in older examples of the facebook API, i see people get the UID, and sessionkey from the iframe page, then send them to php and run a function called $facebook-setUser($UID, $sessionKey). This is how the majority of the tutorials online are doing it. That would be great, except the newest facebook API doesn't have any function like that. I have been scouring the web for 2 hours and have found nothing relating to the disappearance of this seemingly critical function. So, I have a flash application that needs to authenticate via a stateless php resource. I would love it if my PHP code could be completely uncaring if the request originated from flash, or iphone, or another application altogether-it should just need userId and and sessionKey. Is this still possible? Thank you in advance for your help! :)

• When to choose "Generate an activator..." when creating a new Eclipse plugin project

  There are lots of Eclipse RCP tutorials that begin with "Create a new plugin project..." It seems that approx. 70% of them specify checking the Generate an activator, a Java class that controls the plug-in life cycle. The others specifically say don't check that toggle. Its not clear to me, what generating an activator class does for you, when you need one, and when you don't. For being a prominent option you get every time you create a new plugin project (it seems to be set on by default) this option isn't very well explained anywhere that I have found. Any advice/rules of thumb on choosing this option when creating Eclipse plugin projects?

I have started looking for some information on dealing with textarea selection and found this jQuery plugin that does some simple manipulation. However, it doesn't explain what's going on. The Question Where can I find a good resource on Textarea Selection in JavaScript, preferably with a description of both pre-DOM3 and post-DOM30 scenarios? [Edit] In a great answer from Borgar, I have found several different places to start with contentEditable, selectionStart, and selectionEnd. I'll be looking into these things and posting any good tutorials I might find.

• Multiple classes in a Python module

  I'm very new to Python (I'm coming from a JAVA background) and I'm wondering if anyone could help me with some of the Python standards. Is it a normal or "proper" practice to put multiple class in a module? I have been working with Django and started with the tutorials and they place their database model classes in the same module. Is this something that is normally done or should I stick with 1 class per module? Is their a reason I would do one over the other? Hope I'm being clear and not to generic.   Hi Everyone this is what i want to achieve 1) Have a page control that allows user to do a swipe to 6 different pages 2) each page is a table view controller 3) everything is done via code NOT IB The tutorials that are i find either use VIEW CONTROLLER or is done via IB. I am not very good with IB and prefer to have everything done via coding. I have a TableViewController.h and TableViewController.m When the user navigate to the TableViewController view, my application will display a table view (filled with some information), when the user swip to the next page, another page (table view) will appear with another set of information... I am very new to objective-c and iphone programing...can some one pls guide me on how to achieve the above or is there another way to doing things? oh yar....i have a tab bar controller as my root controller...and for one of the tab (tab A) i have a navigation controller and my TableViewControllers falls inside tab A.   Hey, I need a regular expression to solve the following problem (links to similar problems is also appreciated, related tutorials etc.): __some_words_a_b___ => __some words a b___ ____ => ____ So I want underscores between words to be replaced with space and keep leading and trailing underscores. I found this: ^[ \t]+|[ \t]+$ and I guess it most be something like that. I will use it in jQuery, Java (stdlibs) and maybe XSLT. Addition: The sentences do not necessarily start with underscores or ends with underscores. It is also possible that a sentence ain't containing underscores at all. Best regards Lasse Espeholt

• Silverlight data-driven application with NHibernate

  Hi Guys, this is more of a subjective Question, but I'll ask it anyway. I'm about to develop a very data-centric application that has to run inside the browser. The frontend will be Silverlight, backed by a Fluent NHibernate service that runs server side. The problem here is: Wherever I look for data-driven silverlight app I wind up finding Silverlight RIA services examples, but nothing on how to build this without some ADO.NET stuff involved. I have little to no knowledge in WCF so far, but from the limited research I did it seems like WCF is pretty much the only way to let the client talk to the server. Are there any tutorials/best practices on how to write a Silverlight MVVM app that provides CRUD for a non-EF database? Suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks PS: I can't use .NET remoting. The backend has to run on IIS6 :(

  I was wondering if anyone knew of a great example of using the MVVC pattern for a Silverlight application that does not utilise a data grid? Most of the examples I have read see links below and books such as Pro WPF and Silverlight MVVM by Gary Hall use a silverlight application with a datagrid. Don't get me wrong, these are all great examples. • Two Firefox windows vs two browsers? Ram Consumption

  I don't know enough about Ram & sharing to know what the difference is here. Normally, I run Chrome in one desktop for personal use, and Firefox on a second desktop for business. I like the separation of saved passwords and whatnot. However, I recently learned that I can open two different profiles in Firefox at the same time, so I was wondering if that would be cheaper to my system resources, or not? Out the door, I don't think it would save more than 40-60mb of ram... but I'm wondering, 3 hours later, if ram handling will be better using just one browser for all my heavy lifting. I only have 2gb of ram and I run iTunes and Photoshop as well, almost all day. So I like to save ram where I can. Any thoughts? UPDATE: I've been centering around chrome more recently and using firefox for testing. Dev isn't bad on Chrome and it's great at releasing memory when I close tabs. In retrospect, I think the best answer to this question is simply for me to buy another 2gb of ram.

  Hey all. I'm working on an application that was originally intended for HTML, but I've recently concluded that the best thing to do for my purposes is to do it in Flash instead. One of the big things I need is to be able to bring in movieclips from external files and add them to my main movie at runtime (dynamic number of elements, skinning, etc.) Don't need full-on code for this, but I could use some assistance in tracking down the resources to learn how to do these things successfully. Tutorials, best practices… The usual suspects. I've been using Flash for a while now, and used to do this pretty easily in AS2, but I've had some hiccups using classes and addchild in an earlier attempt, so any help would be much appreciated.
