    I use Diigo, but I'm looking for alternatives to it. The main feature I need (that most don't have) is the ability to search on the full page text. Diigo does this, but I was hoping there might be others out there to choose from too. If you know of one, I'd even consider locally installed programs that have this ability, but I do prefer web-based tools for this.

  • Managing service passwords with Puppet

    I'm setting up my Bacula configuration in Puppet. One thing I want to do is ensure that each password field is different. My current thought is to hash the hostname with a secret value that would ensure each file daemon has a unique password and that password can be written to both the director configuration and the file server. I definitely don't want to use one universal password as that would permit anybody who might compromise one machine to get access to any machine through Bacula. Is there another way to do this other than using a hash function to generate the passwords? Clarification: This is NOT about user accounts for services. This is about the authentication tokens (to use another term) in the client / server files.     Working with .NET framework I have a service with a set of methods that can generates several types of exceptions: MyException2, MyExc1, Exception... To provide proper work for all methods, each of them contains following sections: void Method1(...) { try { ... required functionality } catch(MyException2 exc) { ... process exception of MyException2 type } catch(MyExc1 exc) { ... process exception of MyExc1 type } catch(Exception exc) { ... process exception of Exception type } ... process and return result if necessary } It is very boring to have exactly same stuff in EACH service method with exactly same exceptions processing functionality... Is there any possibility to "group" these catch-sections and use only one line (something similar to C++ macros)? Probably something new in .NET 4.0 is related to this topic? Thanks. P.S. Any thoughts are welcome.

  • Problem running application on windows server 2008 instance using amazon ec2 service and WAMP

    I have a basic (small type) windows server 2008 instance running on amazon ec2. I've installed WAMP server on to it, and have also loaded my application. I did this using Remote desktop Connection from my windows machine. I'm able to run my application locally on the instance, however when I try to access it using the public DNS given to it by amazon, from my browser, I'm unable to do so. My instance has a security group that is configured to allow HTTP, HTTPS, RDP, SSH and SMTP requests on different ports. In fact I have the exact same security group as the one used in this blog, http://howto.opml.org/dave/ec2/ I did almost everything same as the blog, except for using a different Amazon Machine Image. This is my first time using amazon ec2, and i can't figure out what I'm doing wrong here

    I need to move the I drive from one san vendor to another. Microsoft states that you can't move the fulltext http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q304282& and the only way would be remove the cluster and re-install the cluster. Does anyuone know of any other way? Would swapping the old I drive for a new I drive work? Currently on the I drive I just have the fulltext directory and sql server log directory to move. The later I know how to handle. Any help would be greatly appreciated Windows 2003 - SQL Server 2005 32bit and yes this is one of the few 2005 instances that we have left Steve

  • Windows 2008 - Define IP Order by port or service

    I have a Windows 2008 server that has three IP bound to the NIC. I can select which IP Windows SMTP listens to, but I want to also set the IP address used when mail is sent. Where would I set which outbound IP to use when sending email? Without using real IPs, here is an example what I have setup. Three IPs associated with the server: 10.0.0.1 10.0.0.2 10.0.0.3 I setup the binding on 10.0.0.2 for port 25 in the SMTP server settings, so that it is the only IP that will respond for inbound. When I look at the email header from an email sent from that server, it lists the server with an address of 10.0.0.3. I would like it to use 10.0.0.2 so that when reverse DNS is performed, it maps back correctly.

    I am assuming this means that the RAM modules can only be inserted/removed from some place very inconvenient? Maybe under the keyboard? Or does this mean something more strict, as in the only way to get an upgraded module in the laptop is via some special toolset, or verified through the hardware to allow the system to recognize the new memory? I ask because I'd want to know if I need to buy my own additional RAM, since I can't seem to find a way to get to 8GB. A Google search result turned up very little other than hits for shopping.   • WSDL first for existing service layer

    I am working on an existing Java project with a typical services - dao setup for which only a webapplication was available. My job is to add webservices on top of the services layer, but the webservices have their own functional analysis and datamodel. The functional analyses ofcource focuses on what is possible in the different service methods. As good practice demands, we used the WSDL first strategy and generated JAXB bound Java classes and a SEI for the webservices. After having implemented the webservices partially, we noticed a 70% match between the datamodel. This resulted in writing converters which take the webservice JAXB classes and map them with the service layer classes. Customer customer = new Customer(); customer.setName(wsCustomer.getName()); customer.setFirstName(wsCustomer.getFirstName(); .. This is a very obvious example, some other mappings where little more complicated. Can anyone give his best practices, experiences, solutions to this kind of situations? Service: CXF 2.2.3 with Aegis databinding Client: C#, .NET 3.5 SP1 For some reason Visual Studio generates two C# proxy enums for each Java enum. The generated C# classes do not compile.   • How does Google geo location service work?

    I dont use google maps much, but I was using it today and I clicked the "Show my location" button for the first time, then firefox asked for permission and I clicked "share my location", google maps showed my location pretty accurate. But, how does this system really works? I mean how can google know where I live? I am connecting to the internet with a VPN, so my "public IP" is not from my country, but from sweden, also I use linux and I change the mac of my wireless device, but google still show my location. I know I can disable this feature setting firefox about:config geo.enabled to false, but I am curious about how google can know where I live even when I dont have a real mac address and my IP is not from my real country. Basically I'd like to know if this feature works only because of code that exists in chrome and firefox (which spies my system)? I am worried about anyone knowing where I live, I mean... where is my privacy? Part of the fun about the internet is remaining anonymous.

  • Web service access fails when users password is in warning period

    We have a number of locally installed .Net apps that communicate via web services. Authentication in IIS is handled by Windows Authentication so no additional login is required. We recently began seeing a problem where users are getting a application 403 error when there password is 14 days (or less) from expiring. As this sometime happens in the the middle of the day (login in the morning OK, but password reaches <14 days during the day), this comes as a surprise as they haven't been warned to change their password. Of course, one would expect they should be able to work until the password is expired. Any idea on what could be happening here? Why would IIS reject a login if the passsword hasn't actually expired?   • Running MySQL as SYSTEM Service in Windows XP

    I have this strange problem where I create a database in MySQL and I need to restart mysqld but I can't seem to do it with info the MySQL docs. Then, I kill it from the Task Manager and I can't restart it. When I look at the process, it is run by the SYSTEM, rather than me. When I run mysqld it starts the process by me, not the SYSTEM. Am I shutting it down incorrectly? IS there a way to start this daemon as the SYSTEM?

  • Can not connect to service with my public IP, only with localhost

    I have installed Linux Mint 8 (based on ubuntu). And I have setup a webserver on port 8098. I can connect to my webserver with http://127.0.0.1:8098, but when I try to connect to http://192.168.1.107:8098 from the same machine or another machine it doesn't work. How can I get this working? Is there any default firewall settings that I have to change?

    I'm trying to configure my Windows 2008 servers so that my developers can view their status without needing to log on to the box or be an admin. Unfortunately, the permissions set in Windows 2008 for remote non-admin users don't include the ability to enumerate or otherwise query services. This causes anything that contacts the SCM on the far end to fail (Win32_Service, sc.exe, services.msc etc). How do I set up permissions so that they can at least list the services and see if they are running?

    EDIT: After much negotiating and begging and seeing through promotion smoke screen, thanks to the nice representative who took my case, I now know that the engineer has already fixed my NTFS partition (I guess it might be a bad block in the partition table?). She told me that the problem was considered minor, and I should be able to boot normally and just copy stuff out. Whew..I'm glad I didn't agree to the NTD $16,000 deal. New question (should this be in a new thread?): is it safer to use the linux "dd" command or is it better to boot normally into Windows XP and just copy stuff out? EDIT2: Thanks to all the help. I give the best answer to Console as it's most directed related to my question. But many suggestion are helpful and informational. ---- ORIGINAL POST BELOW --- Hi, in my previous post (You don't need to read but it's at http://superuser.com/questions/48838/windows-xp-a-disk-read-error-occurred), I said that my hard disk was not booting and is showing "a disk read error occurred". I took it to a recovery professional. A representative responded today told me that the NTFS partitions have a "NTFS partition system crash". I have no idea what that means. The engineer handling my drive will not be available for contact till tomorrow. Now the company charges me NTD (New Taiwan Dollar) $16,000 to recover lost data, that's kind of a lot considering that my graduate student monthly stipend is currently NTD $32,000 (max. allowed by regulation, may be lower, may change depend on funding). Now I'm weighting in between the options. Option A: let the professional recovers it with the half of my monthly stipend. If file/directories I designated are not recovered I don't pay a penny. (other than the initial examination fee of NTD $1000 which I've already paid.) Option B: let me try SpinRite, if failed, back to Option A. I spoke to the representative at the company they recommended me not to handle it on my own (yeah of course that's what they all want to say, right?), and at the price tag the disk error is probably relatively minor and data recoverable. But the representative really did not have detailed information of the disk failure so I didn't take her recommendation readily. Though one thing I heed was that she said that what they would do is to duplicate the disk before attempting discovery, so there would be no data loss (Is this true? can't duplicating invoke further data loss?). That sounds very good to me. Or maybe a third option: Option C: Negotiate with them to pay them to duplicate the disk hopefully for a much smaller price tag. Let me try SpinRite, if failed, back to Option A. This is a difficult decision. Ultimately I want my data back, but if a cheaper way is available to achieve the same thing... Can operating with SpinRite also corrupt data in someway? I've no idea what happened to my drive. I'll attempt to contact the engineer and hope to get it clarified and make an edit here.

  • Mac OS X Services: enable without user interaction?

    I wrote a simple Mac 'Service' for Finder, that executes a command. Basically: this adds a ContextMenu in Finder. If I right-click a file in Finder, a menu item pops up. If the user clicks it, it executes my script. (kind of like 'Send to Bluetooth device, ...') In OS X Leopard (10.5) and earlier, all services are enabled. In 10.6 (Snow Leopard), Apple changed the behavior, services now have preferences, and can be enabled or disabled by the user. (which is a good thing) However, I wrote the service, but there seems to be no way to enable it automatically (in our installer). I tried doing it with Applescript, going to the System Preferences and ticking the checkbox that way, but it requires some accessibility features to be turned on. (off by default). Is it possible? If so, how? Or do I need something else to provide Context Menus in Finder.

We support 50+ clients that call the server from time to time. Each client opens a channel using channelfactory once it is loaded and uses that channel for all calls (creates the channel and proxy only once). we have built a small load tester that imitates the client by calling the server by 50 different threads at once (using 50 different channels). when we run this tester, after the 10th client tries to connect, all other client fail connecting. We have set throttling to 100. My questions are: 1. is it correct for each client to create a channel and use it through the client life time? or, do i need to use a using statement for each call to the server (create and distroy a new channel for each call). 2. does the service have a limit of channel connections to it? other then throttling? thanks alot, Guy.

  • Compare Error logs across service fleet, find unique errors

    I'm looking for a tool where I can list the servers to check, the location of the file and it would return a list of the most common errors across those servers (say like 2 or 3 servers for report brevity) and get a report something like this Server.A Server.B Server.C -------- -------- -------- 42 error.X 39 error.X 61 error.X 21 error.Y 7 error.Y 5 error.A 17 error.B 6 error.A 4 error.Y 4 error.A 2 error.R 3 error.S 3 error.R 1 error.S 1 error.R Of course, excluding timestamps and other error details and just grepping out the common sub-strings and listing them like so. I'd be able to look at the table and see that error.B is unique to Server.A and conclude that there is something up with Server.A. Does something like this already exist? Is this something I'll have to code myself? I'm not necessarily looking for this specific report, just the functionality to find unique errors across a set of error logs.

  • Reload mod_fcgid without killing Python Service

    Hi I'm currently running a Django project on my school's webserver with FCGI. I did follow the multiple guides that recommends installing a virtual local Python environment and it worked out great. The only issue i had was that "touching" my fcgi-file to reload source-files wasn't enough, but instead i had to kill the python service via SSH. This because mod_fcgid is used. However, the admin didn't think it was a great idea that i ran my own local python. He thought it better if i just told him what modules to install on root, which was a pretty nice service really. But doing this, i can no longer kill python since it's under root(though immoral as I am, I've definitely tried). The admins recommendation was that I should try too make the fcgi script reload itself by checking time stamp. I've tried to find documentation on how to do this, but fund very little and since I'm a absolute beginner i have no idea what would work. Anyone have experience running python/django under mod_fcgid or tips on where to find related guides/documentation?
