• Visual Studio 2005 - strange characters rendered for ANSI text

  Hi all, Has anyone seen this odd text rendering issue in VS2005 before? The first line of using statements actually says "using System;". If I copy the line as it is displayed and paste into notepad, the text appears correctly, so clearly the character codes are correct. In addition, the solution compiles and runs correctly. I was thinking it might be due to ClearCase using a different character encoding as all the solutions we're using were freshly checked-out yesterday on to a new build machine, but this is only happening in 2 of our ~30 solutions. Incidentally the same .cs files when opened in VS2008 render correctly on this machine, could this be a corruption in VS2005?

• Set text equal to string and pass to receipt printer at a different size on iOS

  I am using the StarIO SDK to print text to a receipt printer and I am trying to get a certain line of text larger than the rest. • Text to a PNG on App Engine (Python)

  Note: I am cross-posting this from App Engine group because I got no answers there. As part of my site about Japan, I have a feature where the user can get a large PNG for use as desktop background that shows the user's name in Japanese. After switching my site hosting entirely to App Engine, I removed this particular feature because I could not find any way to render text to a PNG using the image API. In other words, how would you go about outputting an unicode string on top of an image of known dimensions (1024x768 for example), so that the text will be as large as possible horizontally, and centered vertically? Is there a way to do this is App Engine, or is there some external service besides App Engine that could make this easier for me, that you could recommend (besides running ImageMagick on your own server)?

• xmonad + urxvt issue: text disappears after resizing

  I'm using Arch Linux + xmonad + urxvt bundle and trying to resolve the conflict between xmonad and urxvt. Better to explain with shots: Firstly, open the terminal and get some full-length output. Secondly, create another window, which squeezes the first. And, finally, close it to find out that half of the output disappeared. Sometimes it behaves correctly, sometimes not. • Replace text in XSL using wildcards

  This is similar to an earlier problem I was having which you guys solved in less than a day. I am working with XML files that are generated by a digital video camera. The camera allows the user to save all of the camera's settngs to an SD card so that the settings can be recalled or loaded into another camera. The XSL stylesheet I am writing will allow users to view the camera's settings, as saved to the SD card in a web browser. While most of the values in the XML file -- as formatted by my stylesheet -- make sense to humans, some do not. What I would like to do is have the stylesheet display text that is based on the value in the XML file but more easily understood by humans. A typical value that can be written to the XML file is "_23_970" which represents the camera's frame rate. This would be better displayed as 23.970 (or 023.970). The first underscore is a sort of place holder to make a space for values over 099.999. The second underscore, obviously represents the decimal. My previous (similar) question involved replacing predictable text, and the solution was matching templates. In this case, however, the camera can be set at any one of 119,999 frame rates (I think I did that math correctly). The approach, I would guess, is to pass a value to the displayed webpage that keeps the numeric values (each digit), replaces the second underscore with a decimal, and replaces the first underscore with either an nbsp or a zero (whichever is easier). If the first character in the string is a "1" (the camera can run at frame rates up to 120.000) then the one should be passed on to the page displayed by the stylesheet. I have read other posts here regarding wildcards, but couldn't find one that answered this question. EDIT: Sorry for leaving out important info. I fared better on my first try at asking a question! I guess I got complacent. Anyhow . . . • Toggle DIV and SPAN text onclick

  I have been trying to mimic this website http://www.designrattan.co.uk/daybed/apple for a while now. I need to make a page where the customer can click "View 360" and then it changes the DIV to show the product 360 (for which I already have the code for). I also need to make it so that when it is clicked the span text then changes to "Back to Image" I have tried many times and have failed to get the Javascript code and HTML to work well together. My efforts can be seen here: http://designliving.tk/winchester-rattan-garden-round-table-set As you can see it is a complete fail as it doesn't change the DIV it just displays a new one. Also when you click the button it then changes to text instead of a new button. • Ttstyledtextlabel does not draw properly when text property is assigned multiple times

  I have A ttstyledtextlabel in my uitableview cell. It has got some web URLs for images which are being rendered. But since images take some time to download i reload the cell after sometime to render the images if they have been downloaded. The problem I am facing is that during subsequent assignment of text if the size of the label changes, happens when images have been successfully loaded the label does not render properly but rather blanks out. But I see the proper label when is scroll and come back to the cell again. Anyone faced this issue or simply when the following line is executed multiple times, the Styled Label goes blank StyledView.text = [TTStyledText textFromXHTML:[self getStyledText] lineBreaks:YES URLs:YES];

  Hi, I'm having an argument with a co-worker, and I'm trying to convince him that it's a bad idea to change checkbox text (label) according to the checkbox state. For example, we have a combobox that automatically picks selected value (and is disabled) when checkbox next to it is checked and is enabled when checkbox is cleared. His idea is to show Autoselect when checkbox is checked and Manual select when it's cleared. I'm sure that this will confuse the user as users tend to think that checking a checkbox next to a verb will make it true, only to find that the label has changed to something else. What is your opinion on this matter? P.S. I remember reading about changing checkbox text somewhere, in a book or blog article, but can't remember where. It would be great to have this in writing :-)

  I am working on a software product with an integrated log file viewer. Problem is, its slow and unstable for really large files because it reads the whole file into memory when you view a log file. I'm wanting to write a new log file viewer that addresses this problem. What are the best practices for writing viewers for large text files? How does editors like notepad++ and VIM acomplish this? I was thinking of using a buffered Bi-directional text stream reader together with Java's TableModel. Am I thinking along the right lines and are such stream implementations available for Java?

• Solr 'text' fields not accepting wild-cards

  Hi, I am trying to search on a field declared as 'text' using the wildcard '*' but am getting mixed results. Basically, it seems to me that it's stripping off the '*' character and isn't handling numbers or spaces well. I'm using the 'text' field type for case insensitive fields but after running an analysis, am starting to think itmight be the wrong type to use as it runs a lot more filters when compared with the string field. Basically all I want is a field type that can index or search on lowercase only with spaces stripped out (and works with wildcards). Is such a type available? Thanks MARCO

If you have a plain html input type=text with a small width eg 20 and then type more characters than can be displayed, it shows the last characters you type. • ctrl-c does not copy text on a webpage

  I've come across this several times, ctrl-c randomly does not copy. I think it's caused by javascript or maybe some odd html syntax. I never spent the time to track down what caused it. Anyone know the typical/common causes of ctrl-c not working (to copy) on a website? Speaking from a developers standpoint. What do we developers end up doing to break ctrl-c? Just to clarify, I'm not interested in preventing copying. I'm trying to do the opposite, occasionally I find I've done something that is preventing ctrl-c from copying text, and that is not very user friendly on a text heavy site.

  I am trying to create a packet analyzer for an online game using C# and I am new to c#. I have 2 RichTextBoxes, 1 shows the packet in bytes and the other one shows the packet in ANSI.   Currently I have a SQL server column of type nvarchar(max) which has text that starts with <span class="escape_<<digits>>"></span> The only thing that varies in the pattern is the <<digits>> in the class name. The common part is <span class="myclass_ and the closing </span> Some sample values are <span class="myclass_12"></span> <span class="myclass_234"></span> <span class="myclass_4546"></span> These span text are present only at the beginning of the column. Any such matching span in the middle should not be removed or matched. Whats the SQL Server query with regex to remove all these occurances of span?

• IE 8 and text fading

  I have a problem with fading text in IE 8, 7 and 6 (obviously). The text has a black outline during the animation that completely ruins the effect. Is there a workaround? I've read a bunch of answers about this problem and none made sense. Please take a look at this simple jsFiddle http://jsfiddle.net/LhSK7/ in IE 8, and show me how to fix it if possible. Edit: screenshot of the problem: http://i43.tinypic.com/1z6h1th.png I thought it might be because of the VirtualBox, but all other browsers display it correctly in VirtualBox. Edit #2: the problem can sort of be solved by setting the background color of the element being faded, which while still pretty ugly in IE 8 and below, at least gets rid of the black outline.
