• Is there a webproxy via email?

  This is probably a bit weird, and I don't think it exists yet. I'm basically asking for a program that, upon receiving a request via email, downloads a html page and sends it via email, possibly changing the links inside the page into outgoing emails to this program asking for another page. This is certainly one of the most crude ways of accessing the web, and obviously fails at anything beyond the most basic stuff. But it may still be useful to those that can send email, but can't access the web due to company policy or whatever reason. In the (likely) case this does not exist, I'd be interested to write such a proxy.

This is on Server 2008 R2, my SQL database (on localhost) instance is named SQLEXPRESS. There is an instance of SQL Express 2008 on the system (hence client 10.0). The database is configured to use a trusted connection, and the .net desktop software deployed on our network PCs is able to access the database without any problem. Am I missing something obvious here, I've done a fair amount of searching for this error message, and haven't found anything that has been particularly useful so far.

• Why did Google remove the search box in developer tool from Chrome 22 stable release?

  In previous version of Chrome, there's the search box in developer tool, on the right top when I open it, just as shown below. (Sorry I can't upload image cuz' I don't have enough reputation for now.) http://i.minus.com/iklSx2vi0uzFB.JPG But, after I upgraded to the first release of Chrome 22 yesterday, that search box was gone, as shown below. http://i.minus.com/ibxXt9wnBekR7E.JPG It is such a useful search box that I rely on all the time, to search for something, or to validate an xpath. So does Google just 'hide' it somewhere else? Or do they really remove it? Anyone know why they made such changes?

• Tunning scrolling in urxvt

  Hello, I'm using rxvt-unicode version 9.06 at Ubuntu 9.10. I was used to aterm, where you can use SHIFT + up/down arrow to scroll the printed output with a line up or down. You can also use SHIFT + pgup/pgdown to scroll one screen up or down. In urxvt I can use the pgup/pgdown combination as well, but can't use the up/down arrow combination. It is very useful to be able to scroll by single lines. Do you have any idea how to enable the up/down arrow scrolling? • tag based file organizer

  I'm finishing professional school and over the years have acquired a pile of notes and articles that I'd like to hang onto. I'd like to add to them and create sort of an archive of article and files that may be useful down the road. I'd also like to organize this collection of files not only by simple grouping but also with tags. I feel like that will make searching through them years later much easier. Suggestions on software that would be good for this? Just a general file manager, something that uses tags that can be attached to each file? Thanks

• What's the entry path towards a database administrator job?

  I've recently lost my job, and I'm working towards changing vocations. My degrees are in Mathematics, but I'm interested in IT, particularly working as a DBA or a programmer. I don't have IT experience, but I have the resourses to be patient with the transition, and I'm currently learning SQL and Java. Obviously, I need some job experience. My question is this: What entry-level jobs might allow me to gain useful experience towards obtaining a DBA job? It seems to me that programmers often start as testers, and system administrators could start at a help-desk position, but it is unclear how one begins to work with a company's database.

• Multiple LiveCD iso's on a single USB drive

  I am looking to create a USB flash drive that I can put multiple LiveCD iso's on and select which boots from startup. The ideal candidate supports linux and windows based iso's, and is relatively simple. It also must have some reasonable process for adding and removing iso from the drive/list. Things that I'm not looking for this specific question: UBCD or other swiss-army knife livecd's. The point is to boot any one of multiple CD's, not to boot a (certainly useful) utility CD. Installing a single LiveCD to a USB drive. I'd like to have multiple iso images, selectable at startup. I don't have a specific purpose in mind, possibilties include a single drive with a knoppix variant, ubuntu desktop, UBCD for dos, UBCD4Win, the Offline NT Password Cracker, etc. Flexible and easy to use are the name of the game!

  I'm having trouble with this rewrite. I've never really used mod_rewrite before and don't have much experience with regex. • Making a cracked or activated windows uncracked

  I have a pc which has windows 7 license but I installed windows from an image i downloaded and it is already activated. for validating genuine microsoft, i need to entet my own product key but the necessary activation tools do not exist in my windows folder. What do? I googled stuff but because the keywords are too broad I couldn't find a useful tool DAZ doesn't work, activation button doesn't show up. When I enter my original key to Windows Anytime Upgrade, I get this error When I attempt using slmgr, I get this error I used sfc /scannow Now slmgr is existing, I entered slmgr.vbs -ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX (replacing X es with the cd key) the operation successful. Now I have installed Microsoft Security essentials, which means the problem is solved. I am having issues getting google-chrome browser into full KIOSK MODE with no browser bar on a linux platform Looking through the google forums I have found numerous postings on how to get Chrome to show full kiosk mode BUT tried to execute with --kiosk but doesnt seem to get the job done. I dont know if this is platform specific or not, but any useful information would help. I know F11 will display the browser in full kiosk mode, with no browser bar BUT is there a way to do this with a linux script and no need for a monkey pressing F11??

• Set up router to vpn into proxy server

  I have a small network with a single LinkSys router connected to broadband in US via Comcast. I have a VPN proxy server account that I can use with a standard Windows connection, allowing me to have a geographic IP fingerprint in Europe, this is useful for a number of purposes. I want to setup a 2nd router that automatically connects via VPN to this proxy service, so any hardware that is connected to router 2 looks as though it is originating network requests in Europe, and any hardware connected to my main router has normal Comcast traffic (all requests are originating from USA). My 2nd router is a LinkSys WRT54G2, I'm having trouble getting this configured. Question, is what I'm trying to do even feasible? Should the WRT54G2 be able to do this with native functionality? Would flashing it with DD-WRT allow me to achieve my objectives? Any help/suggestions much appreciated. Neil

  I tried to mount a formerly readonly mounted filesystem read-writeable: mount -o remount,rw /mountpoint Unfortunately it did not work: mount: /mountpoint not mounted already, or bad option dmesg reports: [2570543.520449] EXT4-fs (dm-0): Couldn't remount RDWR because of unprocessed orphan inode list. Please umount/remount instead A umount does not work, too: umount /mountpoint umount: /mountpoint: device is busy. (In some cases useful info about processes that use the device is found by lsof(8) or fuser(1)) Unfortunately neither lsof of fuser don't show any process accessing something located under the mount point. So - how can I clean up this unprocessed orphan list to be able to mount the filesystem again without rebooting the computer?

• Mac OSX server command equivalent for dhclient?

  Is there an MacOS command that makes a dhcp request, and renews the old lease, drops it for a new one, or usefully reports errors or lack of response from a dhcp server? This would both help fix networking on the machine after problems on the network without rebooting and would also be useful to diagnose wider networking problems from a mac. I can not find any command equivalent of dhclient though obviously some component must be serving this purpose. The question is, is that component exposed to a command line interface? I am biased to the command line for these features and may have overlooked settings panels or tools that might solve it using a gui interface. I believe this question is at the heart of this other question: Is there an equivalent command for 'init.d/networking restart' in OS X

• Increased CF JVM max heap size and now CF service will not start

  So I went in to ColdFusion Administrator and increased my CF JVM max heap size, then I was told I would need to restart the service, so I stopped the service, and then tried to start it again and got the following error message: Windows could not start the ColdFusion 8 Application Server on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 2. So I went to the Event Viewer application, then took a look at the Application log and saw an error that said: The ColdFusion 8 Application Server service could not be started. Check the server "coldfusion" log files for more information. So I went to my ColdFusion logs directory opened the server.log log file and I don't see anything useful in there or any of the other log files.. Any idea how I can change the JVM heap size back to what it was so that I can start CF again?

  Hi, I'm new to this site but have found the articles and feedback very useful. We have a Server Room which our Organisation owns and controls, yet there are several thirs party companies that have open access to this room. As such, we have been asked to put together a protocol paper that stipulates the standards that we expect to be adhered to when working in this room. Other than the monitoring of UPS loads, Air Cooling functionality, alarm systems etc, does any one have any guidance on the kind of issues that need to be documented to make this protocol all encompassing? I'm thinking along the lines of not leaving cardboard or other combustibles in the room, not having food and drink in the room, not altering the fabric of the building by drilling through walls etc? • What does the email header "X-CAA-SPAM" refer to?

  I've got an application that sends out notification emails to users of the application (this is not spam; the information in these emails is solicited and useful, and is also a feature turned off by default and must be enabled by the user). The app is still in beta, and one of our testers reports that the notification emails are going to his junk mail folder in Outlook 2003. This is the only reported case of this, but I asked him to send me the email headers from the message, and I noticed that there is a header there labeled "X-CAA-SPAM" with a value of 00000 . I'm a programmer, so I'm fairly green in the world of successful automated emails - does anyone know if this header is the culprit? If not, any suggestions?

• Using Ctrl-Tab to switch between tabs in Mac Terminal.app

  How can I make Ctrl-Tab and Ctrl-Shift-Tab switch between tabs in Terminal.app on a Mac (OS 10.4 and 10.5 specifically)? This is how I switch tabs in Firefox and Aquamacs, and Command-Shift-[ and Command-Shift-] is too awkward to me. I am aware of this related question: .../unable-to-switch-a-tab-efficiently-in-macs-terminal* And hence the Keyboard Shortcuts section of the System Preferences, but the dialog box for Keyboard Shortcuts doesn't seem to accept Ctrl-Tab in the Keyboard Shortcut field. Is there a special keyboard sequence for inputting tabs (with modifiers) into a dialog box field on a Mac? Is there any other method that would allow me to customize Terminal.app in the way I desire? Not really a programming question, but I think the answer would be useful to other folks that program on Macs and would like to have some consistency between interfaces of different applications. • Android Jelly Bean: fix search button [migrated]

  I just upgraded my Nexus S from Android 4.0.something (I forget the subversion) to Android 4.1.1. The magnifying glass button used to be really useful -- it would trigger a search function within whatever app I was using. For example pressing it within the Maps app would search for a place, or pressing it within the Facebook app would search for a friend. But now, the magnifying glass button launches a google search no matter what the context is! This is extremely annoying and makes a lot of apps harder to use, especially Maps. How can I use a setting or a patch to revert the magnifying glass button to its old behavior?

• Vim's relativenumber setting and multiple buffers

  I like the relative number setting. I'm refactoring code at the moment (translation: explodicating 5 year old terrible methods and replacing them with nice code) and I find it useful to have the setting active on files as I open them I frequently either open multiple buffers or use a client/server vim to contain all my open buffers/files and have noticed that the relative number only seems to apply to the first buffer (and not the remaining buffers when I have set rnu in my .vimrc file.) Is it expected behaviour for rnu to only initially apply to the first buffer until you manually set it?

• Problems installing Linux to IDE connected compact flash card

  I have been trying to install Ubuntu on some hardware (Netcom NC-499 board that contains a Vortex86DX processor). I am trying to install to a compact flash card attached to the board via an IDE adaptor, the aim being that the board will boot up and simply treat the compact flash like a normal hard drive. The processor vendor claims support for Ubuntu 10.04 but I am having problems installing it onto the card. I have been trying using a USB CD-ROM drive and the standard .iso image from the ubuntu site (md5 checksum works out fine so no problem there) but I have had no success at all. I have been able to do this with Ubuntu 8.04 but with no other version (9.04 and 10.04 desktop and alternative discs all fail). My question is what other options are available to me to try and install this? I have googled myself apart trying to find out but other than a few sites describing USB based installs using flash memory sticks for very specific hardware, I have found no useful info at all. Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

• Eclipse Pydev Ctrl-Click (Go to Definition) Doesn't Work OSX

  My Pydev set up in OS X is kind of busted. I'm working on a Django project and I find that Ctrl-Click never actually goes to the definitions of any of my objects or functions. I actually have a symlink to Django/django in my workspace so that it's easier to cross reference Django code. My guess is that something is wrong with the builder, but it doesn't throw up any errors. Does anyone have advice here? Different topic: does anyone know of a good way to use Ctrl-Shift-R (Open resource) and filter files by folder? It's not that useful in python projects where you have 20 urls.py showing up.

• gnu screen - mouse does not work in nested screen session

  I started a screen session inside another screen session, both on my local machine. This is using cygwin, but I don't think it matters. I have tried via ssh to a real unix machine but the behaviour is the same. Mouse works great in the first screen session, I'm able to open vim with :set mouse=a and I can click to move the cursor or switch tabs, and the mouse wheel scrolls. But in the nested session it does not work, mouse is only useful for selecting terminal text that gets put in the clipboard, but is not able to interact with vim. I want this to work because I usually work with a local screen session, then ssh to a remote server and have a remote screen session running too (hence the nesting) and I like to scroll swiftly in vim by using the mouse wheel. Can anyone tell me why the mouse works in the first layer of screen but not in the second, nested screen session, and how I can make it work? Thanks in advance, Matthew
