• Executing php with crontab

  Hi everyone. I'm trying to run a php-script on a scheduled basis. So I'd thought crontab was a good idea. The server I'm using is on Linux which I'm not that familiar with. So the problem I'm having is, I don't know how make the script executable from php. I need to reference the script, or put it into a folder that can run php from the command line. So I don't know what path to give my crontab, for example: 5 * * * * var/www/some/path/script.php I found some vague information about this php executable being found in /usr/bin/php But I can't find any php file in there, maybe I don't have it installed? My php5 and apache installation is in: /etc/php5 So my question becomes, is there anyway to execute a php-script with crontab in any other folder, or do I just lack the php executable in usr/bin/php?

• How to make mysql accept connections externally

  I have a VPS and I want to make mysql DB accept connection externally (from my PC for instance). I have Debian Linux installed on the server. I checked some tutorials online and they said to comment out: bind-address = 127.0.0.1 But this didn't seem to help! is there anything specific for VPSs? or Am I missing something else? The command that runs mysql is: /usr/sbin/mysqld --basedir=/usr --datadir=/var/lib/mysql --user=mysql --pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid --skip-external-locking --port=3306 --socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock

• Custom QGraphicsItems not compiling and give object is is private error

  Hi, I am trying to create a Custom QGraphicsItem button as shown by Fred here. The code which he posted can be found here. The problem is when I try and compile the code I get the following two errors: /usr/include/qt4/QtGui/qgraphicsitem.h ‘QGraphicsItem::QGraphicsItem(const QGraphicsItem&)’ is private /usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qobject.h ‘QObject::QObject(const QObject&)’ is private Here is the code snippet which essentially is the same as that in the sample above. The error is on the class deceleration. class MyButton : public QObject, public QGraphicsItem { Q_OBJECT Q_INTERFACES(QGraphicsItem) public: MyButton(QGraphicsItem *parent = 0); MyButton(const QString normal, const QString pressed = "", QGraphicsItem *parent = 0); .... } Interestingly the other sample as shown here works fine. The sample code for that can be found here. Any idea what is wrong? Thanks in advance.

• Problem with launching JAGUAR in R

• Cannot get mysql gem to work in Snow Leopard, unable to setup ruby on rails environment

  I am having some serious problems, however this seems to be a common thing. I have Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and here are my other version info: MySQL mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.1.46, for apple-darwin10.2.0 (i386) using readline 5.1 gem 1.3.6 ruby 1.8.7 (2009-06-08 patchlevel 173) [universal-darwin10.0] My problem is that no matter what I do to try and install the mysql gem, i still get the error every time i do rake db:migrate uninitialized constant MysqlCompat::MysqlRes I have installed the mysql gem based on instructions around the web that say to use export ARCHFLAGS="-arch i386 -arch x86_64" ; sudo gem install --no-rdoc --no-ri mysql -- -v 2.7 --with-mysql-dir=/usr/local --with-mysql-config=/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql_config This DOES work, as it gives this output: Building native extensions. This could take a while... Successfully installed mysql-2.8.1 1 gem installed Any help would be greatly appreciated

• Python urllib3 and how to handle cookie support?

  So I'm looking into urllib3 because it has connection pooling and is thread safe (so performance is better, especially for crawling), but the documentation is... minimal to say the least. urllib2 has build_opener so something like: #!/usr/bin/python import cookielib, urllib2 cj = cookielib.CookieJar() opener = urllib2.build_opener(urllib2.HTTPCookieProcessor(cj)) r = opener.open("http://example.com/") But urllib3 has no build_opener method, so the only way I have figured out so far is to manually put it in the header: #!/usr/bin/python import urllib3 http_pool = urllib3.connection_from_url("http://example.com") myheaders = {'Cookie':'some cookie data'} r = http_pool.get_url("http://example.org/", headers=myheaders) But I am hoping there is a better way and that one of you can tell me what it is. • Mixed static and dynamic link on Mac OS

  I want to use gcc to produce a shared library, but i want to link some other libraries it depends on statically. Now to produce the "standard" dynamically linked output file i use gcc -dynamiclib *.o -lfoo -lbar -o outfile which would be gcc -shared *.o -lfoo -lbar -o outfile on for a binutils ld on a linux system. Now if i want libfoo and libbar to be linked statically, I can name the static libraries directly gcc -dynamiclib *.o /usr/lib/libfoo.a /usr/lib/libbar.a -o outfile however, that way i have to look for the library files myself. GNU binutils ld supports this: gcc -shared *.o -l:libfoo.a -l:libbar.a -o outfile but apple's ld doesnt. Is there a way to make apple's ld look for the static libraries himself? If not, is there another way that would avoid naming the exact location of the archives, e.g. producing an intermediate output file out of the object files requiring libfoo and libbar with the -static switch and linking that file together with the remaining objectfiles to create the dynamic object?

• Problem w/ Paperclip, MacPorts, ImageMagick & Snow Leopard

  I'm attempting to use ImageMagick along w/ Paperclip to handle the images on my rails app. The problem is whenever I try to upload an image I get the following in the terminal: [paperclip] An error was received while processing: #<Paperclip::NotIdentifiedByImageMagickError: /var/folders/go/goZ833AaFaqyvv5RnLqQmE+++TM/-Tmp-/stream20110107-6356-1xfs9j1-0.jpg is not recognized by the 'identify' command.> I have added the following to my environments/development.rb file: Paperclip.options[:command_path] = "/usr/local/bin" If I try to interact w/ ImageMagick in the terminal by using "convert" or something similar I get: dyld: Library not loaded: /opt/local/lib/libltdl.7.dylib Referenced from: /usr/local/bin/convert Reason: Incompatible library version: convert requires version 10.0.0 or later, but libltdl.7.dylib provides version 9.0.0 Trace/BPT trap I've already tried updating everything w/ port but the problem still persists. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

• How to save bytes to an image and access it from Bottle

  I'm working on an API wrapper for Snapchat using Python and Bottle, but in order to return the file (retrieved by the Python script) I have to save the bytes (returned by Snapchat) to a .jpg file. I'm not quite sure how I will do this and still be able to access the file so that it can be returned.   I've been searching on how to solve this issue but could not find any real and working solution. User model: validates_attachment_content_type :avatar, :content_type = ['image/jpeg', 'image/pjpeg', 'image/x-png', 'image/png', 'image/gif'] Unnecessary error shows up when invalid file type is uploaded: Avatar /tmp/sample,23283,0.txt is not recognized by the 'identify' command. Server details: Ubuntu and Debian which identify results to /usr/bin/identify Specifying command path does not solve the issue: Paperclip.options[:command_path] = "/usr/bin" Any ideas? • Starting synergy automatically on RHEL/CentOS

  I have a Red Had Enterprise Linux 5 and a CentOS 5 box, both of which I am trying to configure to automatically connect to a synergy server on startup. I have followed the guide at http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/autostart.html and configured them the same way I configured previous Ubuntu 7.10 boxes, and this only seems to get me half way there. Currently, synergy connects at the login screen, but once I login, it doesn't come back up. I added the following lines to /etc/gdm/{Init,PostLogin,PreSession}/Default : /usr/bin/killall synergyc sleep 1 /usr/bin/synergyc fried-chicken # Init,PreSession only All files are owned by root:root with 755 permissions, I'm just not sure what I'm missing here.

  Hi, I have installed osqa on a site hosted on hostgator. The login functionality is working for google,yahoo,facebook. But when i click on twitter icon its generating an exception. I have already added the twitter consumer key and the twitter consumer secret through admin interface. • Trying to Install Rails 3

  I'm trying to install Rails 3 on a brand new MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.3, Ruby 1.8.7, and Rails 2.3.5 and I'm wondering if I've hosed myself. So far, I've run these commands: $ gem update --system $ gem install arel tzinfo builder memcache-client rack rack-test rack-mount erubis mail text-format thor bundler i18n $ gem install rails --pre However, when I run the last command, I get this error: ERROR: While executing gem ... (Gem::FilePermissionError) You don't have write permissions into the /usr/bin directory. I think it wants me to run the command with sudo so that it can write over /usr/bin/rails. But if I do that, won't I be overwriting my Rails 2.3.5 executable? I don't want to do that. Instead, I'd like to keep both versions of Rails. Can anyone help? Thanks.

• Tabcompletion and docview while editing rc.lua

  I saw that there is a lua plugin for eclipse and there is a docpage on the awesome main page api_doc and all the .lua files in /usr/share/awesome/lib. So I thought it must be possible to create a Library or Execution Environment so that one has tabcompletion and docview. So I tried making my own Execution Environment: wrote the standard .rockspec file downloaded the documentation made an ofline version of it and put it in docs/ folder ziped the files and folders in /usr/share/awesome/lib ziped all up tried it out ... and it failed. When I try to view a documentaion for a .lua file I get "Note: This element has no attached documentation." Questions: Am I totaly wrong in my doing (because I have the feeling I am)? Is there any way to edit the rc.lua with tabcompletion and docview?

  Hi guys, I am having trouble working with the Twitter gem. I am using ruby 1.8.7 After installing when I try to run a simple script I get this error ruby twitter.rb ./twitter.rb:5: uninitialized constant Twitter (NameError) from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in gem_original_require' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:inrequire' from twitter.rb:2 I running this on a Ubuntu box. I checked with gem -list and I see the Twitter (1.1.0) is listed there. this is the code I am trying to run require "rubygems" require 'twitter' puts Twitter.user_timeline("test").first.text Any ideas ?

  Hi, i'm using linux and php 5.2.12 i have problem with executing proc_open if i use proc_open('php script.php', $descriptorspec, $pipes); it will show me error sh: /php: No such file or directory if i use proc_open('/usr/bin/php script.php', $descriptorspec, $pipes); or proc_open('php script.php', $descriptorspec, $pipes, '/usr/bin/'); it still show me same error. i have no idea why it always append slash in front of command. any help please? thanks!

  I need to set a variable inside of a bash for loop, which for some reason, is not working for me. Here is an excerpt of my script: function unlockBoxAll { appdir=$(grep -i "CutTheRope.app" /tmp/App_list.tmp) for lvl in {0..24} key="UNLOCKED_$box_$lvl" plutil -key "$key" -value "1" "$appdir/../Library/Preferences/com.chillingo.cuttherope.plist" 2>&1> /dev/null successCheck=$(plutil -key "$key" "$appdir/../Library/Preferences/com.chillingo.cuttherope.plist") if [ "$successCheck" -eq "1" ]; then echo "Success! " else echo "Failed: Key is $successCheck " fi done } As you can see, I try to write to a variable inside the loop with: key="UNLOCKED_$box_$lvl" But when I do that, I get this: /usr/bin/cutTheRope.sh: line 23: syntax error near unexpected token `key="UNLOCKED_$box_$lvl"' /usr/bin/cutTheRope.sh: line 23: `key="UNLOCKED_$box_$lvl"' What am I not doing right?
