    I am trying to create a remote shell on OS X with NC. I tried nc -l 1337 -e /bin/bash but it seems that the Mac version of NC does not support the -e option. Does anyone know how I can achieve a remote shell on OS X preferably only using the built in tools? Thank you.

    I create a small script that installs a set of linux paquets . Strangely apt-get install always fails and tells me that the package have not been found.     We have eight Xeon (i7) cores and 16 gig of RAM on our SSIS box. We have about 200 image files we want to convert using a command line utility every day. Currently the process is using Adobe Photoshop and droplets (very manual, taking upwards of two hours a day) Using SSIS hot folders, is there a way to execute up to eight conversions at once? Is there any way to tell a process completed or execute code upon it's completion?

  • Which version of emacs is best on Mac?

    On windows and ubuntu I just download the latest drops of emacs straight from the gun/fsf site, but they don't have Mac binaries there. I have a decent version that came with Snow Leopard, but just running in the bash terminal. Is there a version that runs in a standalone window and is more Mac friendly? I did try using ports, and downloaded one called emacs cocoa, but it didn't compile.

    When I run emacs from the cygwin console I get the following error message: bash: /usr/bin/emacs/ :Permission denied I have not changed any settings. I tried to change the autosave settings in the emacs system file but that didn't work so I deleted it and saved the file. It was after that that I started getting this error. Any idea as to why this is?

    I use the following directive in sshd_config to detect if the user trying to login to a server is called developer, and issue a bash script to the user if that is the case: Match User developer ForceCommand /bin/dev_login However, when the user tries to upload a file using SCP, they can't, as the dev_login script is interrupting the process. Is it possible to use the Match directive to detect if the connection is SCP rather than a request to open a shell?

    i wonder if there is any application for the linux bash shell to make it more easier to type. eg. if i type "c" then maybe it would give me all commands that starts with that letter for example "cd", "cp" etc. then if i type "cd" and press space it give me all the parameters for that command. is there application of this kind to automatize command typing?

    Is there any way to implement globbing in git checkout? It would be great to be able to use git checkout re* or even to have tab completion in the shell. I'm using zsh, but an answer that is shell independent would be great. Note: I realize that this is kind of a pipe dream, so... if I needed to implement this myself, must it be done in the shell language itself, or could it be done in, say, Ruby?
