  • Insurers Pushed to Transform Their Business

    - by Calvin Glenn
Everyone in the P&C industry has heard it “We can’t do it.” “Nobody wants to do it.” “We can’t afford to do it.”  Unfortunately, what they’re referencing are the reasons many insurers are still trying to maintain their business processing on legacy policy administration systems, attempting to bide time until there is no other recourse but to give in, bite the bullet, and take on the monumental task of replacing an entire policy administration system (PAS). Just the thought of that project sends IT, Business Users and Management reeling. However, is that fear real?  It is a bit daunting when one realizes that a complete policy administration system replacement will touch most every function an insurer manages, from quoting and rating, to underwriting, distribution, and even customer service. With that, everyone has heard at least one horror story around a transformation initiative that has far exceeded budget and the promised implementation / go-live timeline.    But, does it have to be that hard?  Surely, in the age where a person can voice-activate their DVR to record a TV program from a cell phone, there has to be someone somewhere who’s figured out how to simplify this process. To be able to help insurers, of all sizes, transform and grow their business while also delivering on their overall objectives of providing speed to market, straight-through-processing for applications, quoting, underwriting, and simplified product development. Maybe we’re looking too hard and the answer is simple and straight-forward. Why replace the entire machine when all it really needs is a new part…a single enterprise rating system? This core, modular piece of the policy administration system is the foundation of product development and rate management that enables insurers to provide the right product at the right price to the right customer through the best channels at any given moment in time. The real benefit of a single enterprise rating system is the ability to deliver enhanced business capabilities, such as improved product management, streamlined underwriting, and speed to market. With these benefits, carriers have accomplished a portion of their overall transformation goal. Furthermore, lessons learned from the rating project can be applied to the bigger, down-the-road PAS project to support the successful completion of the overall transformation endeavor. At the recent Oracle OpenWorld Conference in San Francisco, information was shared with attendees about a recent “go-live” project from an Oracle Insurance Tier 1 insurer who did what is proposed above…replaced just the rating portion of their legacy policy administration system with Oracle Insurance Insbridge Rating and Underwriting.  This change provided the insurer greater flexibility to set rates that better reflect risk while enabling the company to support its market segment strategy. Using the Oracle Insurance Insbridge enterprise rating solution, the insurer was able to reduce processing time for agents and underwriters, gained the ability to support proprietary rating models and improved pricing accuracy.      There is mounting pressure on P&C insurers to produce growth and show net profitability in the midst of modest overall industry growth, large weather-related losses and intensifying competition for market share.  Insurers are also being asked to improve customer service, offer a differentiated value proposition and simplify insurance processes.  While the demands are many there is an easy answer…invest in and update the most mission critical application in your arsenal, the single enterprise rating system. • My collection of favourite TFS utilities

    - by Aaron Kowall
So, you’re in charge of your company or team’s Team Foundation Server.  Wish it was easier to manage, administer, extend?  Well, here are a few utilities that I highly recommend looking at. I’ve recently had need to rebuild my laptop and upgrade my local TFS environment to TFS 2012 Update 1.  This gave me cause to enumerate some of the utilities I like to have on hand. One of the reasons I love to use TFS on projects is that it’s basically a complete ALM toolkit.  Everything from Task Management, Version Control, Build Management, Test Management, Metrics and Reporting are all there ‘in the box’.  However, no matter how complete a product set it, there are always ways to make it better.  Here are a list of utilities and libraries that are pretty generally useful.  this is not intended to be an exhaustive list of TFS extensions but rather a set that I recommend you look at.  There are many more out there that may be applicable in one scenario or another.  This set of tools should work with TFS 2012 or 2010 if you grab the right version. Most of these tools (and more) are available from the Visual Studio Gallery or CodePlex. General TFS Power Tools – This is ‘the’ collection of utilities and extensions delivered by the Product Group.  Highly recommended from here are the Best Practice Analyzer for ensuring your TFS implementation is healthy and the Team Foundation Server Backups to ensure your TFS databases are backed up correctly. TFS Administrators Toolkit – helps make updates to work item types and reports across many team projects.  Also provides visibility of disk usage by finding large files in version control or test attachments to assist in managing storage utilization. Version Control Git-TF - a set of cross-platform, command line tools that facilitate sharing of changes between TFS and Git. These tools allow a developer to use a local Git repository, and configure it to share changes with a TFS server.  Great for all Git lovers who must integrate into a TFS repository. Testing TFS 2012 Tester Power Tool – A utility for bulk copying test cases which assists in an approach for managing test cases across multiple releases.  A little plug that this utility was written and maintained by Anna Russo of Imaginet where I also work. Test Scribe - A documentation power tool designed to construct documents directly from the TFS for test plan and test run artifacts for the purpose of discussion, reporting etc. Reporting Community TFS Report Extensions - a single repository of SQL Server Reporting Services report for Team Foundation 2010 (and above).  Check out the Test Plan Status report by Imaginet’s Steve St. Jean.  Very valuable for your test managers. Builds TFS Build Manager – A great utility if you are build manager over a complex build environment with many TFS build definitions. Community TFS Build Extensions – contains many custom build activities.  Current release binaries are for TFS 2010 but many of the activities can be recompiled for use with TFS 2012. While compiling this list, I was surprised by the number of TFS utilities and extensions I no longer use/need in TFS 2012 because of the great work by the TFS team addressing many gaps since the 2010 release. Are there any utilities you depend on that I’ve missed?  I’d love to hear about them in the comments!

  • Fresh Ubuntu Install - Grub not loading

    - by Ryan Sharp
System Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit Windows 7 SP1 Samsung 64GB SSD - OS' Samsung 1TB HDD - Games, /Home, Swap WD 300'ishGB HDD - Backup Okay, so I'm very frustrated, so please excuse me if I miss anything out as my head is clouded by anger and impatience, etc. I'll try me best, though. First of all, I'll explain how I got to my predicament. I finally got my new SSD. I firstly installed Windows, which completed without a hitch. Afterwards, I tried to install Ubuntu, which failed several times due to problems irrelevant to this question, but I mention this to explain my frustrations, sorry. Anyway, I finally installed Ubuntu. However, I chose the 'bootloader' to be installed on the same partition as where I was installing the Ubuntu Root partition, as that was what I believed to be the best choice. It was of my thinking that it was supposed to go on the same partition and on the SSD, which is my OS drive, though with my problem, it apparently was wrong. So I tried to fix it by checking guides and following their directions, but seemed to have messed it up even more. Here is what I receive after I use the fdisk -l command: (I also added explanations for which I used each partition for) Disk /dev/sda: 64.0 GB, 64023257088 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 7783 cylinders, total 125045424 sectors Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disk identifier: 0x324971d1 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 * 2048 206847 102400 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT /dev/sda2 208896 48957439 24374272 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT /dev/sda3 48959486 125044735 38042625 5 Extended /dev/sda5 48959488 125044735 38042624 83 Linux sda1 --/ Windows Recovery sda2 --/ Windows 7 sda3/5 --/ Ubuntu root [ / ] Disk /dev/sdb: 1000.2 GB, 1000204886016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 121601 cylinders, total 1953525168 sectors Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disk identifier: 0xc0ee6a69 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdb1 1024208894 1953523711 464657409 5 Extended /dev/sdb3 * 2048 1024206847 512102400 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT /dev/sdb5 1024208896 1939851263 457821184 83 Linux /dev/sdb6 1939853312 1953523711 6835200 82 Linux swap / Solaris sdb3 --/ Partition for Steam games, etc. sdb5 --/ Ubuntu Home [ /home ] sdb6 --/ Ubuntu Swap Partition table entries are not in disk order Disk /dev/sdc: 320.1 GB, 320072933376 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 38913 cylinders, total 625142448 sectors Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disk identifier: 0x292eee23 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdc1 2048 625141759 312569856 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT sdc1 --/ Generic backup I also used a Boot Script that other users suggested, so that I can give more details on my partitions and also where Grub is located... ============================= Boot Info Summary: =============================== => Grub2 (v1.99) is installed in the MBR of /dev/sda and looks at sector 1 of the same hard drive for core.img. core.img is at this location and looks for (,msdos5)/boot/grub on this drive. => Grub2 (v1.99) is installed in the MBR of /dev/sdb and looks at sector 1 of the same hard drive for core.img. core.img is at this location and looks for (,msdos5)/boot/grub on this drive. => Windows is installed in the MBR of /dev/sdc. Now that is weird... Why would Grub2 be installed on both my SSD and HDD? Even weirder is why is Windows on the MBR of my backup hard drive? Nothing I did should have done that... Anyway, here is the entire Output from that script... PASTEBIN So, to summarize what I need: How can I fix my setup so grub loads on startup? How can I clean my partitions to remove unnecessary grubs? What did I do wrong so that I don't do something so daft again? Thank you so much for reading, and I hope you can help me. I've been trying to have a successful setup since Friday, and I'm almost at the point that I'm really tempted to throw my computer out the window due to my frustration.

  • Consumer Oriented Search In Oracle Endeca Information Discovery – Part 1

    - by Bob Zurek
Information Discovery, a core capability of Oracle Endeca Information Discovery, enables business users to rapidly search, discover and navigate through a wide variety of big data including structured, unstructured and semi-structured data. One of the key capabilities, among many, that differentiate our solution from others in the Information Discovery market is our deep support for search across this growing amount of varied big data. Our method and approach is very different than classic simple keyword search that is found in may information discovery solutions. In this first part of a series on the topic of search, I will walk you through many of the key capabilities that go beyond the simple search box that you might experience in products where search was clearly an afterthought or attempt to catch up to our core capabilities in this area. Lets explore. The core data management solution of Oracle Endeca Information Discovery is the Endeca Server, a hybrid search-analytical database that his highly scalable and column-oriented in nature. We will talk in more technical detail about the capabilities of the Endeca Server in future blog posts as this post is intended to give you a feel for the deep search capabilities that are an integral part of the Endeca Server. The Endeca Server provides best-of-breed search features aw well as a new class of features that are the first to be designed around the requirement to bridge structured, semi-structured and unstructured big data. Some of the key features of search include type a heads, automatic alphanumeric spell corrections, positional search, Booleans, wildcarding, natural language, and category search and query classification dialogs. This is just a subset of the advanced search capabilities found in Oracle Endeca Information Discovery. Search is an important feature that makes it possible for business users to explore on the diverse data sets the Endeca Server can hold at any one time. The search capabilities in the Endeca server differ from other Information Discovery products with simple “search boxes” in the following ways: The Endeca Server Supports Exploratory Search.  Enterprise data frequently requires the user to explore content through an ad hoc dialog, with guidance that helps them succeed. This has implications for how to design search features. Traditional search doesn’t assume a dialog, and so it uses relevance ranking to get its best guess to the top of the results list. It calculates many relevance factors for each query, like word frequency, distance, and meaning, and then reduces those many factors to a single score based on a proprietary “black box” formula. But how can a business users, searching, act on the information that the document is say only 38.1% relevant? In contrast, exploratory search gives users the opportunity to clarify what is relevant to them through refinements and summaries. This approach has received consumer endorsement through popular ecommerce sites where guided navigation across a broad range of products has helped consumers better discover choices that meet their, sometimes undetermined requirements. This same model exists in Oracle Endeca Information Discovery. In fact, the Endeca Server powers many of the most popular e-commerce sites in the world. The Endeca Server Supports Cascading Relevance. Traditional approaches of search reduce many relevance weights to a single score. This means that if a result with a good title match gets a similar score to one with an exact phrase match, they’ll appear next to each other in a list. But a user can’t deduce from their score why each got it’s ranking, even though that information could be valuable. Oracle Endeca Information Discovery takes a different approach. The Endeca Server stratifies results by a primary relevance strategy, and then breaks ties within a strata by ordering them with a secondary strategy, and so on. Application managers get the explicit means to compose these strategies based on their knowledge of their own domain. This approach gives both business users and managers a deterministic way to set and understand relevance. Now that you have an understanding of two of the core search capabilities in Oracle Endeca Information Discovery, our next blog post on this topic will discuss more advanced features including set search, second-order relevance as well as an understanding of faceted search mechanisms that include queries and filters.

  • Concurrent Affairs

    - by Tony Davis
I once wrote an editorial, multi-core mania, on the conundrum of ever-increasing numbers of processor cores, but without the concurrent programming techniques to get anywhere near exploiting their performance potential. I came to the.controversial.conclusion that, while the problem loomed for all procedural languages, it was not a big issue for the vast majority of programmers. Two years later, I still think most programmers don't concern themselves overly with this issue, but I do think that's a bigger problem than I originally implied. Firstly, is the performance boost from writing code that can fully exploit all available cores worth the cost of the additional programming complexity? Right now, with quad-core processors that, at best, can make our programs four times faster, the answer is still no for many applications. But what happens in a few years, as the number of cores grows to 100 or even 1000? At this point, it becomes very hard to ignore the potential gains from exploiting concurrency. Possibly, I was optimistic to assume that, by the time we have 100-core processors, and most applications really needed to exploit them, some technology would be around to allow us to do so with relative ease. The ideal solution would be one that allows programmers to forget about the problem, in much the same way that garbage collection removed the need to worry too much about memory allocation. From all I can find on the topic, though, there is only a remote likelihood that we'll ever have a compiler that takes a program written in a single-threaded style and "auto-magically" converts it into an efficient, correct, multi-threaded program. At the same time, it seems clear that what is currently the most common solution, multi-threaded programming with shared memory, is unsustainable. As soon as a piece of state can be changed by a different thread of execution, the potential number of execution paths through your program grows exponentially with the number of threads. If you have two threads, each executing n instructions, then there are 2^n possible "interleavings" of those instructions. Of course, many of those interleavings will have identical behavior, but several won't. Not only does this make understanding how a program works an order of magnitude harder, but it will also result in irreproducible, non-deterministic, bugs. And of course, the problem will be many times worse when you have a hundred or a thousand threads. So what is the answer? All of the possible alternatives require a change in the way we write programs and, currently, seem to be plagued by performance issues. Software transactional memory (STM) applies the ideas of database transactions, and optimistic concurrency control, to memory. However, working out how to break down your program into sufficiently small transactions, so as to avoid contention issues, isn't easy. Another approach is concurrency with actors, where instead of having threads share memory, each thread runs in complete isolation, and communicates with others by passing messages. It simplifies concurrent programs but still has performance issues, if the threads need to operate on the same large piece of data. There are doubtless other possible solutions that I haven't mentioned, and I would love to know to what extent you, as a developer, are considering the problem of multi-core concurrency, what solution you currently favor, and why. Cheers, Tony.

  • Django 1.2 + South 0.7 + django-annoying's AutoOneToOneField leads to TypeError: 'LegacyConnection'

    - by konrad
I'm using Django 1.2 trunk with South 0.7 and an AutoOneToOneField copied from django-annoying. South complained that the field does not have rules defined and the new version of South no longer has an automatic field type parser. So I read the South documentation and wrote the following definition (basically an exact copy of the OneToOneField rules): rules = [ ( (AutoOneToOneField), [], { "to": ["rel.to", {}], "to_field": ["rel.field_name", {"default_attr": "rel.to._meta.pk.name"}], "related_name": ["rel.related_name", {"default": None}], "db_index": ["db_index", {"default": True}], }, ) ] from south.modelsinspector import add_introspection_rules add_introspection_rules(rules, ["^myapp"]) Now South raises the following error when I do a schemamigration. Traceback (most recent call last): File "manage.py", line 11, in <module> execute_manager(settings) File "django/core/management/__init__.py", line 438, in execute_manager utility.execute() File "django/core/management/__init__.py", line 379, in execute self.fetch_command(subcommand).run_from_argv(self.argv) File "django/core/management/base.py", line 196, in run_from_argv self.execute(*args, **options.__dict__) File "django/core/management/base.py", line 223, in execute output = self.handle(*args, **options) File "South-0.7-py2.6.egg/south/management/commands/schemamigration.py", line 92, in handle (k, v) for k, v in freezer.freeze_apps([migrations.app_label()]).items() File "South-0.7-py2.6.egg/south/creator/freezer.py", line 33, in freeze_apps model_defs[model_key(model)] = prep_for_freeze(model) File "South-0.7-py2.6.egg/south/creator/freezer.py", line 65, in prep_for_freeze fields = modelsinspector.get_model_fields(model, m2m=True) File "South-0.7-py2.6.egg/south/modelsinspector.py", line 322, in get_model_fields args, kwargs = introspector(field) File "South-0.7-py2.6.egg/south/modelsinspector.py", line 271, in introspector arg_defs, kwarg_defs = matching_details(field) File "South-0.7-py2.6.egg/south/modelsinspector.py", line 187, in matching_details if any([isinstance(field, x) for x in classes]): TypeError: 'LegacyConnection' object is not iterable Is this related to a recent change in Django 1.2 trunk? • quartz throws deadlocks under load

    - by Khandelwal
We are using Quartz with Spring and our configuration is throwing deadlocks when quartz has more than 1 thread configured. I'm starting to believe that it's because we don't have our quartz configured correctly with Spring, but I can't find enough documentation on how to configure the two to play nicely. We are running on both Windows and Linux environments - pointing at MSSQL and Oracle DBs. With both OS, using either DB, we can throw the following deadlock errors... We're consistently throwing these deadlock errors. We run under heavy load, inserting hundreds of quartz triggers in a matter of minutes. 2010-03-17 18:52:31,737 [] [] ERROR [DFScheduler_Worker-42] core.ErrorLogger core.ErrorLogger (QuartzScheduler.java:2185) - An error occured while marking executed job complete. job= 'BPM.6e41a6567f0000020100362a51dc7a50' org.quartz.JobPersistenceException: Couldn't remove trigger: Transaction (Process ID 87) was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. • NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest: fails when using POST

    - by Combat
    I'm using a custom NSURLCache to intercept calls for certain web pages in order to modify them dynamically. Inside cachedResponseForRequest: I modify the request, then send it out using sendSynchronousRequest. This works very well until you attempt to submit a form. If there is post data it fails. If i remove the HTTPBody and set the request to GET, it succeeds. But i need it to work with POST. If i send the request asynchronously it also works which is why i can't figure out why the synchronous request fails. Here's my stack trace: Date/Time: 2010-01-17 12:37:55.416 -0800 OS Version: iPhone OS 3.1.2 (7D11) Report Version: 104 Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS) Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000001c Crashed Thread: 2 Thread 2 Crashed: 0 CFNetwork 0x0000b4e4 HTTPMessage::copyHeaderFieldValue(__CFString const*) + 18 1 CFNetwork 0x0000b4c8 CFHTTPMessageCopyHeaderFieldValue + 16 2 CFNetwork 0x0000e022 HTTPProtocol::createStream() + 328 3 CFNetwork 0x0000de8a HTTPProtocol::createAndOpenStream() + 458 4 CFNetwork 0x0000cba2 HTTPProtocol::startLoad() + 278 5 CFNetwork 0x0000c8da URLConnectionLoader::loaderScheduleOriginLoad(_CFURLRequest const*) + 216 6 CFNetwork 0x0000c77c URLConnectionLoader::loaderScheduleLoad(_CFURLRequest const*) + 280 7 CFNetwork 0x0000c5e6 URLConnectionLoader::LoaderConnectionEventQueue::processAllEventsAndConsumePayload(XConnectionEventInfo, long) + 134 8 CFNetwork 0x0000c53a URLConnectionLoader::processEvents() + 60 9 CFNetwork 0x0000a892 URLConnection::multiplexerClientPerform(RunLoopMultiplexer) + 30 10 CFNetwork 0x0000a812 MultiplexerSource::perform() + 86 11 CFNetwork 0x0000a7b2 MultiplexerSource::_perform(void*) + 2 12 CoreFoundation 0x000573a0 CFRunLoopRunSpecific + 1908 13 CoreFoundation 0x00056c18 CFRunLoopRunInMode + 44 14 Foundation 0x0005a998 +[NSURLConnection(NSURLConnectionReallyInternal) _resourceLoadLoop:] + 172 15 Foundation 0x00053ac6 -[NSThread main] + 42 16 Foundation 0x00001d0e __NSThread_main_ + 852 17 libSystem.B.dylib 0x0002b7b0 _pthread_body + 20 As you can see, copyHeaderFieldValue is causing the crash.   • nHibernate Mapping with Oracle Varchar2 Data Types

    - by Blake Blackwell
    I am new to nHibernate and having some issues getting over the learning curve. My current question involves passing a string value as a parameter to a stored sproc. The error I get is: Input string is not in correct format. My mapping file looks like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <hibernate-mapping xmlns="urn:nhibernate-mapping-2.2" assembly="MyCompany.MyProject.Core" namespace="MyCompany.MyProject.Core" > <class name="MyCompany.MyProject.Core.MyTable" table="My_Table" lazy="false"> <id name="Id" column="Id"></id> <property name="Name" column="Name" /> </class> <sql-query name="sp_GetTable" callable="true"> <query-param name="int_Id" type="int"/> <query-param name="vch_MyId" type="String"/> <return class="MyCompany.MyProject.Core.MyTable" /> call procedure MYPKG.MYPROC(:int_Id,:vch_MyId) </sql-query> </hibernate-mapping> When I debug nHibernate it looks like it is not an actual string value, but instead just an object value. Not sure about that though... EDIT: Adding additional code for clarification: UNIT Test List<ProcedureParameter> parms = new List<ProcedureParameter>(); parms.Add( new ProcedureParameter { ParamName = "int_Id", ParamValue = 1} ); parms.Add( new ProcedureParameter { ParamName = "vch_MyId", ParamValue = "{D18BED07-84AB-494F-A94F-6F894E284227}" } ); try { IList<MyTable> myTables = _context.GetAllByID<MyTable>( "sp_GetTable", parms ); Assert.AreNotEqual( 0, myTables.Count ); } catch( Exception ex ) { throw ex; } Data Context Method IQuery query = _session.GetNamedQuery( queryName ); foreach( ProcedureParameter parm in parms ) { query.SetParameter(parm.ParamName, "'" + parm.ParamValue + "'"); } return query.List<T>(); Come to think of it, it may have something to do with my DataContext method.

  • NSURL URLWithString: raises exception

    - by Stephen Darlington
In short, [NSURL URLWithString:] appears to be raising an exception. According to the documentation "If the string was malformed, returns nil." There is no mention of an exception being raised under any circumstance. In addition to this, I am both encoding the URL and checking for nil before converting the string to a URL. Can anyone offer any advice as to which exception it could be or what other error checking I should be doing before converting the URL? In case you're interested in the details, the calling code looks like this: NSString* tmpText = [newUrl stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; if (tmpText == nil) { // error handling } else { NSURL* tmpURL = [NSURL URLWithString:tmpText]; And this is a section from the crash report download from iTunes Connect: 8 libobjc.A.dylib 0x300c1f84 objc_exception_throw 9 CoreFoundation 0x3029a598 +[NSException raise:format:arguments:] 10 CoreFoundation 0x3029a538 +[NSException raise:format:] 11 Foundation 0x30696dde -[NSURL initWithString:relativeToURL:] 12 Foundation 0x30696cd8 +[NSURL URLWithString:relativeToURL:] 13 Foundation 0x30696cae +[NSURL URLWithString:] 14 Yummy 0x000146ca -[DeliciousPostCell setUrl:] + 46 It seems that the URL was in a "bad" format somehow but that should really be returning a nil not an exception. I have never seen the exception being raised myself so I can't use XCode to trap the code and see what's happening. And the user(s) that experienced the problem never contacted me directly so I can't ask for more details. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Update (14/7/2009): Seems like such a hack, but I added an exception block around the suspect line. I also raised a Radar bug report (#7031551) suggesting that the code should match the documentation.

  • Migration for creating and deleting model in South

  • QuickFix Component in Eclipse

    - by Daro Royoss
My aim is to extend the eclipse QuickFix component and automate the process of solving syntax errors. Basically, the QuickFix component provides a list of solutions and my task is to select the best possible fix and apply it to the buggy code. But, for now I've been requested to print the resolutions for a marker in the console. I've tried to work out a tutorial and I'm kind of stuck right now. The tutorial I've tried to workout is: http://www.informit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=370625&seqNum=21 I've first added the extension in my plugin.xml file <extension point="org.eclipse.ui.ide.markerResolution"> <markerResolutionGenerator markerType="org.eclipse.core.resources.problemmarker" class="org.eclipse.escript.quickfix.QuickFixer"/> </extension> Then i have created the two classes QuickFixer and QuickFix. package quickfixer; import org.eclipse.core.resources.IMarker; import org.eclipse.core.runtime.CoreException; import org.eclipse.ui.IMarkerResolution; import org.eclipse.ui.IMarkerResolutionGenerator; class QuickFixer implements IMarkerResolutionGenerator { public IMarkerResolution[] getResolutions(IMarker arg0) { try { Object problem = arg0.getAttribute("Whatsup"); return new IMarkerResolution[] { new QuickFix("Fix #1 for "+problem), new QuickFix("Fix #2 for "+problem), }; } catch(CoreException e) { return new IMarkerResolution[0]; } } } then the class QuickFix: package quickfixer; import org.eclipse.core.resources.IMarker; import org.eclipse.jface.dialogs.MessageDialog; import org.eclipse.ui.IMarkerResolution; public class QuickFix implements IMarkerResolution { String label; QuickFix(String label) { this.label = label; } public String getLabel() { return label; } public void run(IMarker arg0) { MessageDialog.openInformation(null, "QuickFix Demo", "This quick-fix is not yet implemented"); System.out.println("Label: " + label); } } I've managed to correct all the errors i encountered and then i have run the plugin. I have not been able to get the label printed out in the console.Any suggestions???...

  • Finding source of over release

    - by Benedict Lowndes
Hi, I'm consistently seeing the same message sent in as a crash report from users of an app. It's clear that an object is being over-released but I'm unable to replicate it and I'm looking for tips on tracing the source of it. The relevant section from the crash report shows this: Application Specific Information: objc_msgSend() selector name: release Thread 0 Crashed: Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread 0 libobjc.A.dylib 0x90892edb objc_msgSend + 27 1 com.apple.CoreFoundation 0x95ec5a40 __CFBasicHashStandardCallback + 384 2 com.apple.CoreFoundation 0x95ec564e __CFBasicHashDrain + 478 3 com.apple.CoreFoundation 0x95ead6f1 _CFRelease + 353 4 com.apple.CoreFoundation 0x95eda0ed _CFAutoreleasePoolPop + 253 5 com.apple.Foundation 0x97ecedd6 NSPopAutoreleasePool + 76 6 com.apple.Foundation 0x97ececfe -[NSAutoreleasePool drain] + 130 7 com.apple.AppKit 0x9211255f -[NSApplication run] + 1013 8 com.apple.AppKit 0x9210a535 NSApplicationMain + 574 9 TheApp 0x000020a6 start + 54 I've used zombies and leaks, but haven't seen anything there. I've gone through the code and can't see it. What's the next step? Are there any hints I can discern from this information as to the source of it? Does the fact that this nearly exact same crash report is coming in repeatedly mean that it's the same object that's being over released, or because this is referring to the autorelease pool mean it could be any object? Does the reference to _CFRelease mean it's a Core Foundation object that's being over released?

  • nHibernate Domain Model and Mapping Files in Separate Projects

    - by Blake Blackwell
Is there a way to separate out the domain objects and mapping files into two separate projects? I would like to create one project called MyCompany.MyProduct.Core that contains my domain model, and another project that is called MyCompany.MYProduct.Data.Oracle that contains my Oracle data mappings. However, when I try to unit test this I get the following error message: Named query 'GetClients' not found. Here is my mapping file: <hibernate-mapping xmlns="urn:nhibernate-mapping-2.2" assembly="MyCompany.MyProduct.Core" namespace="MyCompany.MyProduct.Core" > <class name="MyCompany.MyProduct.Core.Client" table="MY_CLIENT" lazy="false"> <id name="ClientId" column="ClientId"></id> <property name="ClientName" column="ClientName" /> <loader query-ref="GetClients"/> </class> <sql-query name="GetClients" callable="true"> <return class="Client" /> call procedure MyPackage.GetClients(:int_SummitGroupId) </sql-query> </hibernate-mapping> Here is my unit test: try { var cfg = new Configuration(); cfg.Configure(); cfg.AddAssembly( typeof( Client ).Assembly ); ISessionFactory sessionFactory = cfg.BuildSessionFactory(); IStatelessSession session = sessionFactory.OpenStatelessSession(); IQuery query = session.GetNamedQuery( "GetClients" ); query.SetParameter( "int_SummitGroupId", 3173 ); IList<Client> clients = query.List<Client>(); Assert.AreNotEqual( 0, clients.Count ); } catch( Exception ex ) { throw ex; } I think I may be improperly referencing the assembly, because if I do put the domain model object in the MyComapny.MyProduct.Data.Oracle class it works. Only when I separate out in to two projects do I run into this problem.

  • How to register assemblies using Windsor in ASP.NET MVC

    - by oz
This is how my project looks: TestMvc (my web project) has a reference to the DomainModel.Core assembly where my interfaces and business objects reside. The class that implements the interfaces in DomainModel.Core is in a different assembly called DomainModel.SqlRepository; the reason behind it is that if I just want to create a repository for Oracle I just have to deploy the new dll, change the web.config and be done with it. When I build the solution, if I look at the \bin folder of my TestMvc project, there is no reference to the DomainModel.SqlRepository, which makes sense because it's not being reference anywhere. Problem arises when my windsor controller factory tries to resolve that assembly, since it's not on the \bin directory. So is there a way to point windsor to a specific location, without adding a reference to that assembly? My web.config looks like this: <component id="UserService" service="TestMvc.DomainModel.Core.Interface, TestMvc.DomainModel.Core" type="TestMvc.DomainModel.SqlRepository.Class, TestMvc.DomainModel.SqlRepository" lifestyle="PerWebRequest" /> There's many ways around this, like copying the dll as part of the build, add the reference to the project so it will get copied to the \bin folder or install it on the GAC and add an assembly reference in the web.config. I guess my question is specific to Windsor, to see if I can give the location of my assembly and it will resolve it.

  • Instruments (Leaks) and NSDateFormatter

    - by Cal
When I run my iPhone app with Instruments Leaks and parse a bunch of NSDates using NSDateFormatter my memory goes up about 1mb and stays even though these NSDates should be dealloc'd after the parsing (I just discard them if they aren't new). I thought the malloc (in my heaviest stack trace below) could become part of the NSDate but I also thought it could be memory that only used during some intermediate step in parsing. Does anyone know which one it is or how to find out? Also, is there a way to put a breakpoint on NSDate dealloc to see if that memory is really being reclaimed? Here's what my date formatter looks like for parsing these dates: df = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init]; [df setDateFormat:@"EEE, d MMM yyyy H:m:s z"]; Here's the Heaviest Stack trace when the memory bumps up and stays there: 0 libSystem.B.dylib 208.80 Kb malloc 1 libicucore.A.dylib 868.19 Kb icu::ZoneMeta::getSingleCountry(icu::UnicodeString const&, icu::UnicodeString&) 2 libicucore.A.dylib 868.66 Kb icu::ZoneMeta::getSingleCountry(icu::UnicodeString const&, icu::UnicodeString&) 3 libicucore.A.dylib 868.67 Kb icu::ZoneMeta::getSingleCountry(icu::UnicodeString const&, icu::UnicodeString&) 4 libicucore.A.dylib 868.67 Kb icu::DateFormatSymbols::initZoneStringFormat() 5 libicucore.A.dylib 868.67 Kb icu::DateFormatSymbols::getZoneStringFormat() const 6 libicucore.A.dylib 868.67 Kb icu::SimpleDateFormat::subParse(icu::UnicodeString const&, int&, unsigned short, int, signed char, signed char, signed char*, icu::Calendar&) const 7 libicucore.A.dylib 868.67 Kb icu::SimpleDateFormat::parse(icu::UnicodeString const&, icu::Calendar&, icu::ParsePosition&) const 8 libicucore.A.dylib 868.67 Kb icu::DateFormat::parse(icu::UnicodeString const&, icu::ParsePosition&) const 9 libicucore.A.dylib 868.67 Kb udat_parse 10 CoreFoundation 868.67 Kb CFDateFormatterGetAbsoluteTimeFromString 11 CoreFoundation 868.67 Kb CFDateFormatterCreateDateFromString 12 Foundation 868.67 Kb -[NSDateFormatter getObjectValue:forString:range:error:] 13 Foundation 868.75 Kb -[NSDateFormatter getObjectValue:forString:errorDescription:] 14 Foundation 868.75 Kb -[NSDateFormatter dateFromString:] Thanks!

  • datanucleus enhancer & javaw: "the parameter is incorrect"

    - by Riley
I'm on windows XP using eclipse and the datanucleus enhancer for a gwt + gae app. When I run the enhancer, I get an error: Error Thu Oct 21 16:33:57 CDT 2010 Cannot run program "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_18\bin\javaw.exe" (in directory "C:\ag\dev"): CreateProcess error=87, The parameter is incorrect java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_18\bin\javaw.exe" (in directory "C:\ag\dev"): CreateProcess error=87, The parameter is incorrect at java.lang.ProcessBuilder.start(Unknown Source) at com.google.gdt.eclipse.core.ProcessUtilities.launchProcessAndActivateOnError(ProcessUtilities.java:213) at com.google.appengine.eclipse.core.orm.enhancement.EnhancerJob.runInWorkspace(EnhancerJob.java:154) at org.eclipse.core.internal.resources.InternalWorkspaceJob.run(InternalWorkspaceJob.java:38) at org.eclipse.core.internal.jobs.Worker.run(Worker.java:55) Caused by: java.io.IOException: CreateProcess error=87, The parameter is incorrect at java.lang.ProcessImpl.create(Native Method) at java.lang.ProcessImpl.<init>(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ProcessImpl.start(Unknown Source) ... 5 more I've had this problem before, and it was due to a long classpath. I just spent an hour and a half shortening my classpath by moving libraries around and even moving my eclipse install, but with no luck. Any ideas about where I should start to look for an answer? The error message doesn't include any information about what directory it's in or anything. It's kind of infuriating! Is it possible to make the output of javaw more verbose? Is it possible to get around this class-path size bug?
