  • gnome-terminal -- get path by draging files into terminal

    I use colinux, see http://www.colinux.org/ ; I used the ubuntu image (ubuntu without desktop environment) and install the packages gdm ?x-window-system-core and gnome-core and update to 10.04. the default user ( which is the only one user) is root. When I try to drag a file into gnome-terminal, I don't get the path of this file, instead the image of this file just came back to the original place. Anyone knows why this happened?

  • Windows 7 search not finding files

    Can anyone please explain this quirk in Windows 7 search (not a big fan of it - preferred XP method or least both). With Outlook, you sometimes have to find and delete your OST file. It resides in the user's profile folder. How come searching the entire C: drive for *.ost files works - they are in c:\Users\rob.nicholson\appdata somewhere but starting the search from c:\Users\rob.nicholson fails to find the files???   • copy windows registry and/or other locked files

    Hi. While improving my (personal) backup system, I noticed, that I cannot copy certain locked files, like the windows registry files. Is there a way to copy such things? Or a specific solution for the registry (I know of the regedit-File-Export ,,solution'' but this is to text format and seems slow). AFAIK, On Linux the locking system is advisory and on Windows it is mandatory. Can I somehow bypass the mandatory-ness for backup purposes etc.? TIA.

Because 1 .vob file has multiple episodes but they are not arranged as ep 1, ep 2, ep 3, etc. Is it possible to edit those files so that the episodes would be arranged

  • Git on DreamHost still balking on big files even after I compiled with NO_MMAP=1

    I compiled Git 1.7.0.3 on DreamHost with the NO_MMAP=1 option, I also supplied that option when I did the "make NO_MMAP=1 install". I have my paths set up correctly, which git reports my ~/bin dir which is correct, git --version returns the correct version. But when I try to do a "git push origin master" with "big" files ~150MB it always fails. Does anyone have an suggestions on how to get DreamHost to accept this "big" files from a git push?

  • Removing duplicate files, keeping only the newest file

    I'm trying to clean up a photo dump folder, in which several files are duplicated but with different filenames or lost in subfolders. I've looked at tools like rmlint, duff and fdupes, but I can't seem to find a way to have them keep only the file with the most recent timestamp. I suspect I have to postprocess the results, but I don't even know where to start to do this. Can anyone guide me on how to get the duplicate files list and delete everything but the newest file?

I am pretty sure there are a lot of orphaned temporary files laying around in the volume. I know where to find the obsoleted temp files in my Windows partition, how about in Mac OSX?

    I'm creating a batch script for a class and I've hit a roadblock I have to list all text files whose names are up to seven characters long on the whole c: drive - make the listing output in a wide formant - then append to Batch script file output.txt So far I have -- dir c:*txt/w/o/s/p c:/"My Batch Script File Assigment"/"Output"/"Batch Script File Output Data".txt The above does everything except limit the search to files with only 1-7 characters in their name. If anyone could point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it!

  • Can IIS7 execute php files?

    I have IIS7 on my computer. It can display html files. But if I put a PHP program in the corresponding folder and then try to open it with the Chrome browser I do not see the expected page. Instead Chrome "downloads" this file. Is it beacuse IIS7 cannot display the PHP files?

Socket is still /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock (only changing datadir in my.cnf) Now, all data in /var/lib/mysql has been copied to /home/lib/mysql MySQL has been started and everything is fine.   • need to delete files owned by apache - unsure how to do that

    Running apache on rhel server and sometimes I need to delete some files that I can not using my FTP program, because the FTP account I am logged into is not the apache user. I am on a Mac and there must be a way to accomplish this via terminal by either SSH'ing into the server.   • MySQL Master-Master replication generating thousands of log files

    Today, I checked the /var/lib/mysql/ directory of a server in a master-master replication setup and noticed there were about 3,600 slave-relay.00xxxx files in there (where "xxxx" is an incrementing integer). They appear to be binary log files and don't take up much space (only about 42K), but are they an indication that something is wrong? They range in date from August until today with about 25 per day. Thanks for any help.
