• How does one control select lists using form API ?

  I know this is somewhat of a newb question but I am running into a deadline and 3 days of Drupal experience will just not cut it... $form['gender'] = array('#type' = 'select', '#title' = t('Gender: *'), '#options' = array(t('Male'), t('Female')), '#required' = TRUE, '#weight' = 2, ); How do I assign values to select values ? For example Male - 'm' and Female- 'f'. Also how do I give the select box a default caption "please select gender..." Thanks guys

  Given the following physical layout for a .NET web application: DB (sql server, windows) - No public route (no table access, only stored procs) Web Service DAL (iis, windows) - No public route (can be accessed by web server via port 80 and 443) Web Server (iis, windows) - Public route (only via port 80 and 443) What type(s) / examples of attack could be used to compromise the public web server but would be blocked by the Web Service DAL? i.e. can you think of concrete attack types that the DAL stops? Please note, I am interested only in the security aspect, not scaling / fault tolerance / performance / etc. In my mind if the web server has been compromised using an attack over port 80/443, then the same attack would work over port 80/443 to the Web Service DAL box.

• How to limit access to Exchange 2003 Mobile Actviesync server by user?

  So I was asked to set up an Exchange Activesync mobile gateway. That's done. It's a separat eExchange 2003 front-end server configured for SSL, and I've put an off-domain ISA server in front of it. Now I'm being asked to limit which users can connect to it. By default an Exchange front-end server allows any user who has a mail account to connect to the front -end server. So I'm looking at the permissions on the various IIS sites/apps on the server, but I know that it's easy to break Exchange Front-end server perms. So I've got the following in IIS: Exadmin Exchange EchWeb Microsoft-SErver-ActiveSync MobileAdmin OMA And a couple of others that I dont think are relevant. Can I change the permissions on one of these to restrict who can connect to Activesync? As a bonus: Can I do it in a way that does not affect ordinary browser based Exchange Access? • What can stop IIS7 from restarting an ASP.NET app when uppdating a dll in the bin folder?

  We're running ASP.NET 2.0 on MS Server 2008 and IIS 7. During the last releases the app pool hasn't automatically been restarted after changes in the bin folder. It works like a charm on our test server but not on the live server. The site is browsable but runs with the logic of the old version of the updated dll. One of the changes we have done lately is that one of the dll:s in the bin folder consists of other dlls that have been merged with ILMerge. Interop.ADODB.dll and Interop.CDO.dll is included in the merged dll. It is the user dll of the merged dll that is updated. What can possibly hinder IIS from restarting the app pool although a file has changed in the bin folder?

• Virtual PC "The page cannot be displayed" error connecting to iis7.5 site on Win7 host.

  I setup virtual pc with the Windows XP IE6 VHD to test a site on Windows 7 host. I created a loopback adapter connection on the host. I have several sites on IIS 7.5, I'm able to connect to all of them except one. And it's the site I need to test... I get "The page cannot be displayed" error. The site loads fine from the host(Windows 7). I've made sure the permissions match that of the other sites that do load. I've recreated the application in IIS manager. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

  I'm keen to get started experimenting with gzip, but like i used to find php.net when i first started learning php, the apache documentation confuses me a bit. http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/mod_deflate.html I'd really appreciate a sample htaccess file to have a look at if anyone's got one? Also are there things which should be changed in the htconf file instead of htaccess if I'm enabling gzipping server-wide? Sorry i'm a newb with apache!

  I'm not sure if this is possible or not or whether it should be done through ISA 2006, DNS or IIS. In our organization we have domain1.com and domain2.com. Domain2.com is old as the hills but we still need to support it. Is it possible to translate all requests from domain2.com to domain1.com. For example: Client requests: http://www.domain2.com/someprofile.asp?param=1 url is transformed into http://www.domain1.com/someprofile.asp?param=1 Firewall is ISA Server 2006 running on Windows Server 2003. DNS is Windows Server 2003. Webserver is IIS 6. Thank you

• Error moving a certificate to remote server

  Hi- I am trying to obtain a certificate and move it to a remote server. It is a report server which requires its own certificate for SSL but is not running IIS. I have a server running IIS 6 so i created a fake website to create a csr, obtained a certificate from a 3rd party, then processed and installed the cert on the fake website. I want to then move the certificate to a remote server. when it asks for the server name and credentials i supply them, hit next, then get the error, 'class not registered'. any ideas? Thanks -Ed

• Running Subversion on Windows sans Apache?

  We're stuck with a Windows IIS 6 server at the moment. We'd really like to get a decent OS version control system set up for it. Can Subversion run without Apache? Most documentation that I've come across states that Apache is required, but I have seen a few mentions that Subversion can run as a stand-alone-server by itself alongside IIS. Alas, I can't find details on that particular configuration. Is that true and, if so, can anyone point me to some documentation on that?

• PHP processes run one at a time, always taking 100% of one core

  We have seven websites written in PHP running on a Windows 2008 server with IIS 7.5. They are all very slow right now. When I look in Task Manager, I see around 10 php-cgi.exe processes, and they are all taking 0% of the CPU, except one, which is taking 25%. It's a quad-core server, so it's taking 100% of one core. If I watch for a few seconds, the process taking 25% will go to 0%, and a different php-cgi.exe process will jump to 25%. So all the php-cgi.exe processes are just lined up, waiting on a single core, and each process uses 100% of the processor when it can. Each of the 7 sites is in its own application pool in IIS, and we're using FastCGI. The PHP version is 5.3. Any ideas? Thanks!

How would someone go about doing this on IIS7.5 for a ASP.NET MVC site? The plan so far: Register domain eg static.com, create a new website in IIS Manually copy the js / css / images folders from MVC as is so that they have the same paths on the new server Enable IIS gzip settings (js/css = high compression, images = none) Set caching with far future expiry dates <clientCache cacheControlCustom="public" /> in the web.config Never set any cookies on the static.com site Combine and minimize js / css Auto deploy changes in static content with WebDeploy Is this plan correct? And how can you use WebDeploy to deploy the whole web app to one server and then only the static items to another? On these I am planning on running a few various servers: Windows 2008 Server R2 w/ IIS (several custom built ASP.NET Apps) Windows 2008 Server R2 w/ MS SQL 2008 Database Server Linux Web Server w/ Several WordPress Blogs (XAMPP?) Windows 2008 Server R2 w/ IIS (DEV ENVIRONMENT) Windows 2008 Server R2 w/ MS SQL 2008 Database Server (DEV ENVIRONMENT) In your opinion, will this hardware be sufficient to run the above load with room for possible 2-3 more virtual machines (probably lightweight web servers)?

• Subdomain working externally only

  I am running a Windows Server 2008r2 web server with IIS. I have dev.domain.com and it works fine externally but when I try to access it from within the network it doesn't work. Is there a way to get this to work without changing the dns records for the whole network? I just have IIS Admin rights because our IT is done out of house. I can ask them to add it but I was hoping for another way. Thanks!

  I am setting up two servers; one iis 7 and one sql 2008. I need to use reporting services. What is the best way to set up reporting services so that my iis box can serve the reports. I'm sure this is not an unusual configuration, but I'm having a lot of trouble finding an answer to this - probably because I am using the wrong terminology. Also does this configuration require two sql licenses (one for each server)? • Why is the System process listening on Port 443?

  I am having problems starting my apache server, because port 443 is already in use. It turns out, the system process (PID 4) uses the port 443. I don't have IIS installed, the services.msc shows (predicatbly) no Exchange server running, nor WWW-Services, nor IIS. I have no idea how to find out what service uses that port short of just disabling each service one after the other, and I am not even sure that would help. I would be grateful if someone could point me towards how I can get my SSL port back, thank you :) P.S.: Of course "just switch apache to another port for SSL" would solve the problem of not being able to start apache. But I'd still like to know what is so insistent about hogging port 443. :)

I've seen variables passed to functions like this: myFunction((void**)&variable); Which confuses the heck out of me cause all of those look familiar to me; I've just never seen them put together like that before. • What's better for deploying a website + DB on EC2: 2 small VM or a large one?

  I'm planning the deployment of a mid-sized website with a SQL Server Standard DB. I've chosen Amazon EC2 to deploy it. I now have to choose between these 2 options: 1) get 2 small instances (1 core each, 1.7 GB of ram each): one for the IIS front-end, one for running the DB. Note: these "small instances" can only run the 32-bit version of Win2008 Server 2) a single large instance (4 cores, 7.5 gb of ram) where I'd install both IIS and the SQL Server. Note: this large instance can only run the 64-bit version of Win2008 Server What's better in terms on performance, scalability, ease of management (launch up a new instance while I backup the principal instance) etc. All suggestions and points of view are welcome!

• Url-based web site publishing on Windows Server platform

  I have a Windows 2008 Enterprise SP2 server in a datacenter. It is 32bit OS. I need to be able to do a "smart" url-based web site publishing. So that with a single external IP I can publish many sites on port 80, and some firewall logic resolves, based on a requested URL, which site in IIS gets the request. Forefront TMG 2010 has this feature, but it is not supported on 32bit systems. Is there a software solution that can satissfy my need on Windows 2K8 platform? Thank you. P.S. Perhaps there is a workaround or a tweak to do what I need in IIS?
