  • Internet Explorer percent based layout issue

    - by Tom
    Heya, My goal is to make a layout that is 200% width and height, with four containers of equal height and width (100% each), using no javascript as the bear minimum (or preferably no hacks). Right now I am using HTML5, and CSS display:table. It works fine in Safari 4, Firefox 3.5, and Chrome 5. I haven't tested it yet on older versions. Nonetheless, in IE7 and IE8 this layout fails completely. (I do use the Javascript HTML5 enabling script /cc../, so it should not be the use of new HTML5 tags) Here is what I have: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <meta charset="UTF-8" /> <title>IE issue with layout</title> <style type="text/css" media="all"> /* styles */ @import url("reset.css"); /* Generall CSS */ .table { display:table; } .row { display:table-row; } .cell { display:table-cell; } /* Specific CSS */ html, body { //overflow:hidden; I later intend to limit the viewport } section#body { position:absolute; width:200%; height:200%; overflow:hidden; } section#body .row { width:200%; height:50%; overflow:hidden; } section#body .row .cell { width:50%; overflow:hidden; } section#body .row .cell section { display:block; width:100%; height:100%; overflow:hidden; } section#body #stage0 section header { text-align:center; height:20%; display:block; } section#body #stage0 section footer { display:block; height:80%; } </style> </head> <body> <section id="body" class="table"> <section class="row"> <section id="stage0" class="cell"> <section> <header> <form> <input type="text" name="q" /> <input type="submit" value="Search" /> </form> </header> <footer> <table id="scrollers"> </table> </footer> </section> </section> <section id="stage1" class="cell"> <section> content </section> </section> </section> <section class="row"> <section id="stage2" class="cell"> <section> content </section> </section> <section id="stage3" class="cell"> <section> content </section> </section> </section> </section> </body> </html> You can see it live here: http://www.tombarrasso.com/ie-issue/

  • HP QTP 10: Web-app testing - SomeObj.FireEvent("OnCLick") works, SomeObj.Object.FireEvent("OnCLick") doesn't

    - by Vitaliy
Hi all! I have rich web app btuil with ExtJS. It has multi-select list control (created with JS+CSS). I want to click on some item in that list using HP QuickTest Pro 10 with Internet Explorer 6. I added that item into Object repository and found that following code works - selects some item: Browser("blah").Page("blah").WebElement("SomeElem").Click next code also works: Browser("blah").Page("blah").WebElement("SomeElem").FireEvent("onMouseDown") Browser("blah").Page("blah").WebElement("SomeElem").FireEvent("onMouseUp") Browser("blah").Page("blah").WebElement("SomeElem").FireEvent("onClick") But I want to select several items using shift+click method. I don't know to do that :( So I have a few questions: How can perform click with mouse on several web elements with Shift key pressed? I tried to do that using CreateEventObject + shiftKey set to true, but the method (perform fireEvent on DOM object, not object from Object repository) doesn't work: Browser("blah").Page("blah").WebElement("SomeElem").Object.FireEvent("onClick") What the difference between WebElement("Element").FireEvent("OnClick") and WebElement("Element").Object.FireEvent("OnClick") ? Plsease, help someone, because I fought with that problem a lot, but had no result. Thanks!

  • Browser back button restores empty fields

    - by Pierre
I have a web page x.php (in a password protected area of my web site) which has a form and a button which uses the POST method to send the form data and opens x.php#abc. This works pretty well. However, if the users decides to navigate back in Internet Explorer 7, all the fields in the original x.php get cleared and everything must be typed in again. I cannot save the posted information in a session and I am trying to understand how I can get IE7 to behave the way I want. I've searched the web and found answers which suggest that the HTTP header should contain explicit caching information. Currently, I've tried this : session_name("FOO"); session_start(); header("Pragma: public"); header("Expires: Fri, 7 Nov 2008 23:00:00 GMT"); header("Cache-Control: public, max-age=3600, must-revalidate"); header("Last-Modified: Thu, 30 Oct 2008 17:00:00 GMT"); and variations thereof. Without success. Looking at the returned headers with a tool such as WireShark shows me that Apache is indeed honouring my headers. So my question is: what am I doing wrong?

  • Make sure <a href="local file"> is opened outside of browser

    - by Heinzi
For an Intranet web application (document management), I want to show a list of files associated with a certain customer. The resulting HTML is like this: <a href="file:///server/share/dir/somefile.docx">somefile.docx</a> <a href="file:///server/share/dir/someotherfile.pdf">somefile.pdf</a> <a href="file:///server/share/dir/yetanotherfile.txt">yetanotherfile.txt</a> This works fine. Unfortunetly, when clicking on a text file (or image file), Internet Explorer (and I guess most other browsers as well) insist on showing it in the browser instead of opening the file with the associated application (e.g. Notepad). In our case, this is undesired behavior, since it does not allow the user to edit the file. Is there some workaround to this behavior (e.g. something like <a href="file:///..." open="external">)? I'm aware that this is a browser-specific thing, and an IE-only solution would be fine (it's an Intranet application after all).

  • Absolute positioned div jumps outside containing div in IE7

    - by user367232
Having trouble with a couple of display issues in IE7. Firstly, my large text headers display too far up in Internet Explorer (all pages) Secondly, my descriptions on my Portfolio pages end up outside their containing divs. Works great on FF/Chrome/Opera/Safari though! You'll see what I mean: http://bit.ly/a3hUD4 (I've used bitly so my dumb questions don't show up when someone googles my website). I've googled extensively. Not sure if problem number 2 is a overflow issue, or a absolute positioning bug in IE. Here's the CSS for the centre div with the jumbo-text titles .column1 { padding: 103px 10px 10px 10px; float: left; width: 500px; margin: 0; } And for the description div on the portfolio page .porttxtbox { text-align: right; background-image: url(images/porttxtBG.png); bottom: 0; position: absolute; width: 100%; padding: 0px; margin: 0px; } And it's container div .portimgbox { padding: 0px; margin: 0px; height: 250px; width: 480px; position: relative; border: 5px solid #EAEAEA; Thanks in advance!

  • Getting an Android App to Show Up in the market for "Sony Internet TV"(Google TV)

    - by user1291659
    I'm having a bit of trouble getting my app to show up in the market under GoogleTV. I've searched google's official documentation and I don't believe the manifest lists any elements which would invalidate the program; the only hardware requirement specified is landscape mode, wakelock and external storage(neither which should cause it to be filtered for GTV according to the documentation) and I set the uses touchscreen elements "required" attribute to false. below is the AndroidManifest.xml for my project: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" package="com.whateversoft" android:versionCode="2" android:versionName="0.1" > <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="8" /> <application android:icon="@drawable/ic_launcher" android:label="Color Shafted" android:theme="@style/Theme.NoBackground" android:debuggable="false"> <activity android:label="Color Shafted" android:name=".colorshafted.ColorShafted" android:configChanges = "keyboard|keyboardHidden|orientation" android:screenOrientation = "landscape"> <!-- Set as the default run activity --> <intent-filter > <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" /> </intent-filter> </activity> <activity android:label="Color Shafted Settings" android:name=".colorshafted.Settings" android:theme="@android:style/Theme" android:configChanges = "keyboard|keyboardHidden"> <!-- --> </activity> </application> <!-- DEFINE PERMISSIONS FOR CAPABILITIES --> <uses-permission android:name = "android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE"/> <uses-permission android:name = "android.permission.WAKE_LOCK"/> <uses-feature android:name="android.hardware.touchscreen" android:required="false" /> <!-- END OF PERMISSIONS FOR CAPABILITIES --> </manifest> I'm about to start promoting the app after the next major release so its been kind of a bummer since I can't seem to get this to work. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance : )

  • Styling a hr for internet explorer

    - by Qwibble
Hey, in my quest to create as image light a site as possible, I'm looking to create two tone hr's. I've achieved this in modern browsers, but want to achieve the same effect in ie6 and 7. The current code I am using is hr { border-bottom:1px solid #FFFFFF; border-top:1px solid #dcdcdc; clear:both; height:0; border-left:0px; border-right:0px; } I've tried, with no success to make this work in ie6 and 7 without having to target the browsers specifically. Any thoughts? (Heres my current project where I am employing this code, and looking to make it cross browser - http://www.qwibbledesigns.co.uk/preview/aurelius/ ) Cheers Matt

  • DIVS over flash movies in Internet Explorer

    - by drew
The age old question... why the hell doesn't a div positioned over a flash object stay on top with z-index. I have found the answer in the past, but it's been so long, I can't seem to get it. My flash movie is in a div floating left: <div id="flash"> <object width="614" height="289"> <param name="movie" value="images/75.swf"> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"> <embed src="images/75.swf" width="614" height="289" wmode"transparent"> </embed> </object> </div> My css for the div that needs to be on top is: .menu ul li:hover ul li a:hover { background:#5a3f2d; color:#FFF; z-index: 9999; I cannot get it to show above the flash movie in ie6 or ie8. I know this is old school but I'm frustrated! Does my nav div need to have an absolute position? Is that why it doesn't work? Example is here. Hover over the first link on the right: "CUSTOMER SERVICE" Thanks all :)

  • WM6.5 embedded Internet Explorer finder scrolling

    - by Aaron
I'm writing a .NET 3.5 application targetted for Windows Mobile 6.5. My application uses an embedded IE control to display content. The IE application allows the user to finger scroll around the webpage (i.e. touch the screen and drag instead of using the scrollbar). My IE control has a scrollbar and when I emulate the gesture, I highlight text instead of scrolling. Is there a way to add finger gesture support to an embedded IE control? Thanks, Aaron

  • Text rendering blurred in Firefox and Internet Explorer using jQuery

    - by Sixfoot Studio
Not sure what causes this? If I user slideDown in Firefox the text rendering cuts off the top of the letters before the animation is complete. This is ok in IE. If I then change the animation to use fadeIn instead, the blur does not happen in Firefox but the text is very jagged in IE. From another question I have asked in the past pertaining to animation, the guy told me that I should wrap that which I want to animate in another DIV and animate that instead. This sorted out the jerkiness caused by the padding on the content inside the .animateDiv. Is there a trick to the text rendering as well in jQuery

  • How to get rid of Internet Explorer 7 reloading on fragment change

    - by Philippe Beaudoin
I have an anchor <a href="#!admin">General</a> somewhere in my page. Clicking this in any browser but IE7 (haven't tried IE6) causes no page reload, as expected. However, under IE7 it reloads the page as soon as it's clicked. The strangest thing is that I have the exact same anchor elsewhere in the page and it causes no reload. The only difference I can see between these is a slight difference in style, and the fact that the faulty anchor is deeply nested in divs, where the other is closer to the top. My questions: Is this a known bug with IE7? If so, is there any work around? If not, any clue as to what might be going wrong? Edit: If you want to see this yourself, go to http://filouguestbook.appspot.com/#!main sign-in with a google account and click on the Settings link the the top bar. Switch between the General and Accounts pages, the app will reload. From the Accounts page, click on Settings in the top bar, this will switch tab but not reload!

  • jQuery error when aborting an ajax call only in Internet Explorer

    - by Rob Crowell
When mousing over an image in a jcarousel, my site displays a popup whose contents are loaded via ajax. I'm doing what I thought was fairly straightforward; keeping a handle to the xhrRequest object, and aborting the existing one before making a new request. It works great in all browsers except IE, where I receive an error "Object doesn't support this property or method" Here's the code that is triggering it: function showPopup { // ... code snipped ... // cancel the existing xhr request if (showPopup.xhrRequest != null) { showPopup.xhrRequest.abort(); showPopup.xhrRequest = null; } showPopup.xhrRequest = $.ajax({url: url, type: "GET", success:function(data) { $("#popup-content").html(data); } }); // ... code snipped ... } showPopup.xhrRequest = null; Works great in Firefox and Chrome. I traced the error down to this bit of code in jquery.js inside the ajax function (line 5233 in my copy of jQuery): // Override the abort handler, if we can (IE doesn't allow it, but that's OK) // Opera doesn't fire onreadystatechange at all on abort try { var oldAbort = xhr.abort; xhr.abort = function() { if (xhr ) { oldAbort.call( xhr ); } onreadystatechange( "abort" ); } catch(e) { } The specific error occurs on the oldAbort.call( xhr ) line. Any ideas?

  • CSS filters - sometimes working, sometimes not?

    - by a2h
    I'm on the verge of pulling my hair out over this. Here I have a block of perfectly functioning CSS: #admin .block.mode.off { opacity: 0.25; -ms-filter: "progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Alpha(opacity=25)"; filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Alpha(opacity=25); } Meanwhile... Internet Explorer 8 couldn't care less about my filter declarations here: #admin .drop .tabs { margin-bottom: 12px; } #admin .drop .tab { margin-right: 4px; } #admin .drop .tab.off { cursor: pointer; opacity: 0.5; -ms-filter: "progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Alpha(opacity=50)"; filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Alpha(opacity=50); } #admin .drop .tab.off:hover { text-shadow: 0px 0px 4px #fff; } #admin .drop .tab.on { cursor: default; text-shadow: 0px 0px 4px #fff; -ms-filter: "progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Glow(color=#fff, strength=4)"; filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Glow(color=#fff, strength=4); } My document shows in IE8 Standards, and I am assuming the developer tools are a load of tuna, because the functioning block shows up in its CSS tab as: filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Alpha(opacity=25); opacity: 0.25 Does anyone have any ideas?

  • PNG Transparency Problems in IE8

    - by user138777
I'm having problems with a transparent PNG image showing black dithered pixel artifacts around the edge of the non transparent part of the image. It only does this in Internet Explorer and it only does it from a Javascript file it is used in. Here's what I'm talking about... http://70.86.157.71/test/test3.htm (link now dead) ...notice the girl in the bottom right corner. She has artifacts around her in IE8 (I haven't tested it in previous versions of IE, but I'm assuming it probably does the same). It works perfectly in Firefox and Chrome. The image is loaded from a Javascript file to produce the mouseover effect. If you load the image all by itself, it works fine. Here's the image... http://70.86.157.71/test/consultant2.png Does anyone know how to fix this? The image was produced in Photoshop CS3. I've read things about removing the Gama, but that apparently was in previous versions of Photoshop and when I load it in TweakPNG, it doesn't have Gama. Please help!

  • internet explorer 7 iframe unloads when going back

    - by André
Hi this is my first post here, so please be kind ;-) i'm implementing a browser history manager, just like rsh or yui browser history manager. The idea was not to constantly poll the url hash of a hidden iframe, but to capture the onscroll event of an iframe, when it scrolls to an anchor name on an urlhashchange. So on every click i add an new anchor to iframe and set the iframe's hash to the anchors name. When pressing the back or forward button the frame scrolls to the previous or next anchor and the onscroll event is fired. That works great on firefox 3.0+, IE6 and Opera but on IE7 when hiting the back button the frame unloads and loses all its anchors. If anyone has an idea why this is happening or even a fix for this "bug", please i'm slowly going insane over this. thanks in advance btw the onscroll idea comes from: http://www.zachleat.com/web/2008/08/21/onhashchange-without-setinterval/

  • How to publish internal data to the internet - as simple as possible

    - by mlarsen
We have a .net 2-tier application where a desktop program is talking to a database. We support MS SQL Server 2000, 2005, 2008 and Oracle 9, 10 and 11. The application is sold, not as shrink-wrap, but pretty close. It is quite important for us that the installation and configuration is as easy as possible as installation instructions are usually supplied in written form to the customers internal IT-department. Our application is usually not seen as mission critical for the IT-department, so we need to keep their work down to a minimum. Now we are starting to get wishes for a web application build on top of the same data. The web application will be hosted by us and delivered as a SaaS application. Now the challenge is how to move data back and forth between the web application and the customers internal database. as I see it we have some requirements: We must be ready to handle the situation where the customers database is not accessible from the DMZ. I guess the easiest solution is that all communication is initiated from inside the customers lan. As little firewall configuration as possible. The best is if we can run without any special configuration as long as outgoing traffic from the customers lan are not blocked. If we need something changed in the firewall, we must be able to document that the change is secure. It doesn't have to be real time. Moving data in batches every ten minutes or so is OK. Data moves both ways, but not the same tables, so we don't have to support merges. It would be nice if we don't have to roll our own framework completely. Looking forward to hear your suggestions.

  • Internet Explorer changes brightness

    - by Sale
I have a very annoying problem with IE8 on Vista: My screen brightness changes when I view a page with IE. It slowly dimms brightness some 20% - enough to be noticeable. This seems to be dependent on the OVERALL brightness of the page viewed or of the amount of bright space on the page... sometimes it dimms down if the page is bright, sometimes the complete different, it dimms when lot of dark space is on the page. I know this sounds weird, I cannot describe it better. It takes about one,two seconds from on brightness level to the other. This ONLY occurs in IE - not in Word or any other application. Please help! This dimming is very stressfull for my eyes.

  • Dealing with Anti-Microsoft Trolls on The Internet

    - by FlySwat
I'm an active member on Programming Reddit, but I'm one of the few C# advocates there. I could write up a 3 paragraph explanation of how to do something there, just to have it voted into the negatives because I used C# as an example. As a developer using the "Microsoft Stack", how do you handle the trolls and bigots in the online world? These are the kind of people who say things like "M$", or that Vista sucks without ever booting up. Do you just ignore the trolls?

  • How to Set ActiveX Control name on the install window of Internet Explorer

    - by Gohan
I created a ActiveX control using ATL, already package it with signature. I want to use it on the webpage, but at the install window the name is MyActiveX.cab with no link. the MyActiveX.cab name can be changed by modifying the html page's tag codebase attribute. but the name is still format like "XXX.cab" with no hyperlink. I find a activex control from chinese website has its own name and link: and its object tags are nothing different: <object ID="CMBPB_OCX" CODEBASE="http://szdl.cmbchina.com/download/PB/pb50.cab#version=5,3,1,1" classid="clsid:F2EB8999-766E-4BF6-AAAD-188D398C0D0B" width="0" height="0"> </object> the pic was taken from MSDN Pages, it has link.
