• Some images fails to load on Windows Server 2008

  I have an application running on a Windows Server 2008, that is processing uploaded images. Currently it successfully processes about 8000 images per day, creating 11 different sizes of each image. The problem that I have is that sometimes the application fails to load some images, I get the error "System.Runtime.InteropServices.ExternalException: A generic error occurred in GDI+.". The upload only accepts files with a JPEG extension (jpg/jpeg/jpe) or with a JPEG MIME type, and from what I can tell those images are really JPEG images. If I look at the image file in windows explorer on the server, it can successfully extract the thumbnail from the file, but if I try to open it, I get the error message "This is not a valid bitmap file, or it's format is not currently supported." from Paint. If I copy the image to my own computer, running Windows 7, there is no problem opening the image. It works in Paint, Windows Photo Viewer, Adobe Bridge, and Photoshop. If I try to load the image using Image.FromStream the same way as in the application running on the server, it loads just fine. (I have copied the file back to the server, and it still doesn't work, so there is nothing in the copying process that changes it.) When I look at the image information in Bridge, I see that the images are created using Picasa 3.0, but other than that I can't see anything special about them. I haven't yet found anyone having the same problem, or any known problems like this with the Picasa application. Has anyone had any similar problem, or know if there is something special about images created using Picasa? Is there any image codec that needs installing on the server to handle all kinds of JPEG images?

• JSF 2 - clearing component attributes on page load?

  Hi, The real question: Is there a way to clear certain attributes for all components on an initial page load? Background info: In my application, I have a JSF 2.0 frontend layer that speaks to a service layer (the service layer is made up of Spring beans that get injected to the managed beans). The service layer does its own validation, and I do the same validation in the frontend layer using my own validator classes to try and avoid code duplication somehow. These validator classes aren't JSF validators, they're just POJOs. I'm only doing validation on an action, so in the action method, I perform validation, and only if it's valid do I call through to the service layer. When I do my validation, I set the styleClass and title on the UIComponents using reflection (so if the UIComponent has the setStyleClass(:String) or setTitle(:String) methods, then I use them). This works nicely, and on a validation error I see a nicely styled text box with a popup containing the error message if I hover over it. However, since the component is bound to a Session Scoped Managed Bean, it seems that these attributes stick. So if I navigate away and come back to the same page, the styleClass and title are still in the error state. Is there a way to clear the styleClass and title attributes on each initial page load? I'm using the action method to validate because of some issues I had before with JSF 1.2 and it's validation methods, but can't remember why... so that's why I'm using the action method to validate.

  I understand the default git behaviour of updating the modification time every time it changes a file, but there are times when I want to restore a file's original modification time. Is there a way I can tell git to do this? (As an example, when working on a large project, I made some changes to configure.ac, found out that autotools doesn't work on my system, and wanted to restore configure.ac's to its original contents and modification time so that make doesn't try to update configure with my broken autotools).

• jQuery remove SELECT options based on another SELECT selected on change and on load

  I'm using the following jQuery code to remove options from a select and it is working well. But instead of it only executing when the theOption2 select is changed I would also like it to work when the page is loaded depending on the selected item that is selected. I tried using the a copy of the script and changing the .change to .load and also tried using (window).load without the desired results. Essentially, I need the script to execute on change of the Options1 and on the loading of the page.   I have an javascript that I place into a page using the code below. What the code does is place an object/embed code into a webpage. But what if I want to load this javascript into a page using AJAX? This no longer works for the obvious reasons, you would need to eval the script in order to get it to run. However, I have no idea how to do this. I am using jQuery on my page; so keep that in mind. • Context problem while loading Assemblies via Structuremap

  I want to load plugins in a smiliar way as shown here however the loaded assemblies seem not to share the same context. Trying to solve the problem I just build a tiny spike containing two assemblies. One console app and one library. The console app contains the IPlugin interface and has no references to the Plugin dll. I am scanning the plugin dir using a custom Registration convention: ObjectFactory.Initialize(x => x.Scan(s => { s.AssembliesFromPath(@"..\Plugin"); s.With(new PluginScanner()); })); public void Process(Type type, Registry registry) { if (!type.Name.StartsWith("P")) return; var instance = ObjectFactory.GetInstance(type); registry.For<IPlugin>().Add((IPlugin)instance); } Which thows an invalid cast exception saying he can not convert the plugin Type to IPlugin. public class P1 : IPlugin { public void Start() { Console.WriteLine("Hello from P1"); } } Further if I just construct the instance (which works fine by the way) and try to access ObjectFactory in the plugin ObjectFactory.WhatDoIHave() shows that they don't even share the same container instance. Experimenting around with MEF, Structuremap and loading the assembly manually whith Assembly.Load("Plugin") shows if loaded with Assembly.Load it works fine. Any ideas how I can fix this to work with StructureMaps assembly scanning?

It a muti author site where people are engaged in writing posts, comments, updating status etc. According to Google Analytics this month traffic Visitor = 45,764 Pageview = 1,051,186 Visit = 141,447 I have cdn my site, compress the css, used w3 Total cache plugin to optimize my site. Since last month I am getting several down notice from Pingdom. Right now I am facing more down alert than before. And have to restart my site several time to up again. Is my hosting resource is not enough? Do I need more resource? or what could be the solution? Helpful suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks.

• Reverse web proxy with time constraints

  I have a web application which produces several unique URLs of the type http://service.company.com/service.html?type=aaaa&key=jfiZm6u6cW where the last part is a randomly generated key. Each such URL provides access to an instance of the service provided. I am looking for a way to restrict access to those URLs based on time constraints, as an example URL#1 should be available between 8:00AM and 10:00AM on May 30, URL#2 should be available between 10:30AM and 12:00PM on May 31, and so on. I already have a resource scheduling application based on Drupal and would like to find a way to include those URLs as scheduled resources. The web application is deployed on Apache Tomcat, so I don't have the knowledge or the resources to alter it, therefore I thought that I could put some sort of reverse proxy in front of the web app that could implement the time constraint feature. In my thoughts the reverse proxy would allow or disallow access to each URL based on the rules that my scheduling application would provide. There may be other ways to deliver such a solution, but I can't think of anything better, so the question is: is there a reverse web proxy architecture that could allow access to the destination URLs based on time and date rules? Any other ideas are more than welcome.

  hello :) I posted a question a day or two ago about how to retrieve php via ajax method in this modal I was using. I kinda found out the right way to go about it, but there's still something I'm not doing right (obviously lol) Here's the section thats giving me the issues: jQuery('div that holds content').fadeIn(200).css({ 'width': Number( popWidth ) }); $('').load('/something/somewhere/this #content'); So, im using safari, and a local server (mamp), when I check activity in my browser, it shows that it is loading the content with every click, AND the pop up pops up, but no content. When I simply retrieve content via hidden div, ofcourse, i get it. This is what I'm trying to avoid. right now I have that div in my footer stashed as hidden. I read that .load() has the ability to grab specific content from a request, but im not sure the major difference between that and $.get() I've tried both, and I get the same results. • How to share datastores between multiple exchange servers?

  I have an Exchange 2003 box that is seriously overstressed. I want to transfer its duties to a new and faster box. I don't cannot suffer downtime, so I have to do this stuff live. Here's what I plan to do: Install Exchange 2003 on the new server Set up the new server, so it will accept requests from users for their mailboxes I want to do as little manual set up as possible, because that 'll eat up my time and is too error prone Than I want to transfer my datastores one by one to the new server and have those users (once the datastore in the new server is up and running) to get their data from the new server (without them noticing) I don't have to transfer all the datastores, some of them need to stay on the old box (because I'm still waiting for extra HD space to arrive from the supplier) What steps do I need to follow to do this? The new box has never seen this domain before, the old exchange server is not the DC, we have a dedicated DC.

I have time zone value of the User is stored in DB with this format (-05:00,1), where -5.00 represents EST time zone value and the 1 indicates that this time zone follows daylight saving (if 0 not a daylight saving zone). • Minimizing server load in case of many XMLHttpRequest calls

  I am making a website where users are to like some articles. Whenever the like button is clicked I am sending a XMLHttpRequest to the server to run a file called like_clicked.php along with the get data of article id and user id. This file takes article id and user id and updates the sql database and also adds a node in an xml file related to the user. This is the first time I am doing something for mass usage. I am worried about the server load when too many users call the like_clicked.php file. Please help me, if this method is ok. I am also thinking of an alternative in case the above method fails. I am thinking of making many like_clicked files (namely like_clicked1.php, like_clicked2.php ... ) to minimize load on a single i-node. Is there a method to detect that it is better to call the next like_clicked file. Here we would need to detect how many calls per unit time are coming for the particular file. How do we handle this? • How to efficiently restore Library folder partially deleted on OS X

  I am using OS X Lion, and trying to delete some files I did accidentally (from home directoy): rm -fr Library I realized about this some 15 seconds later and did killall rm Some folders have been deleted, of course, inside "Library". Now the system seems to be ok, but I fear what will happen in case of reboot. I have a Time Machine backup from 5 days ago. I wonder if it would be a good solution, just to copy whole "Library" folder from my home directory from backup and replace this one. Or, what do you think would be the best approach? PS: In order to restore just deleted directories inside "Library", in which order does "rm" start to delete directories, alphabetically?
