  • Help/Questions About New Team Foundation Server 2010 Installation

    Hello. Before starting down the TFS2010 installation process, I have a few questions I'm hoping the community can help me with. We're planning on a single-server installation of TFS2010. Initially, we want version/source control and build services, but not reporting or SharePoint. We may add reporting and SharePoint capabilities later. Our environment will be Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64), SQL Server 2008 R2 (x64), Office 2010 (x86), Visual Studio 6 and 2010, and, of course, Team Foundation Server 2010. Can I install TFS2010 on a server that is on our domain? It's not a domain controller, it's just a member server on the domain. Should I install TFS2010 before or after putting the server on the domain? We have six developers that will be logging into their local development computers (which are also on the same domain) using their domain user accounts, do I add each domain user to the TFS2010 server's security groups? If so, which one(s)? Can I or should I use a domain user account as the TFS2010 service account? Or, should I just use Network Service? The TFS2010 install guide notes that none of the service accounts should belong to the Administrators security group, so which security group(s) are recommended for the service account(s)? We're planning on using a local instance of SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard with TFS2010, what service account should we use? Should we use the same domain account as TFS2010 or Local System or ?? The TFS2010 install guide isn't very specific on this. Since we're planning on this server being both the version/source control and build server, should we install our development environments (VS6, VS2010, Access2010) before installing TFS2010? Or does it matter? Thanks in advance for answering these questions.

  • Team Build Reports as "Failed" Even Though All Targets Succeeded

    Hi, I've written a custom MSBuild script to be used with Team Build, as I am storing PHP in TFS and of course it isn't compiled. My custom script calls the CoreGet target to get the latest version of the files, and the copies them, ZIPs, them, and FTPs the ZIP archive to a testing server. All of that is working fine. The problem I am having is that despite the build succeeding - see the output in BuildLog.txt - Done executing task "BuildStep". Done building target "FTP" in project "TFSBuild.proj". Done executing task "CallTarget". Done building target "EndToEndIteration" in project "TFSBuild.proj". Done Building Project "C:\Documents and Settings\tfsservice\Local Settings\Temp\Code\PHP\BuildType\TFSBuild.proj" (EndToEndIteration target(s)). Build succeeded. 0 Warning(s) 0 Error(s) the build still reports as having failed. The log from Visual Studio looks like so: Anyone know how I can make it report as having succeeded?   • Post Crosstalk 2012

    This year the Oracle Retail users conference, Crosstalk, had a 20% increase in attendees, which was driven by both new customers and those acquired via Endeca.  As the product assets of Oracle have grown, so has the completeness of the solution set.  This year was marked by the breadth of omni-channel stories. Rose Spicer and her marketing team (see photo on left) always strive for an equal balance of retailer presentations, networking opportunities, and unique experiences -- this year was no exception.  We had 41 different retailers from China, Russia, South Africa, Brazil, Chile, US, Canada and the UK sharing their insights with one another. In all there were 251 executives from 120 iconic brands such as Daphne, Kohl's, Morrisons, Abercrombie & Fitch, Hot Topic, Talbots, Petco, Deckers, Sportmaster, Mr. Price, Falabella, and Disney to name a few. From a product perspective, there were a few new developments from Oracle Retail: Endeca's search engine has been integrated into the ATG commerce platform. The latest Retail Analytics application, Oracle Retail Customer Analytics, is generally available. Oracle Retail previewed a new fully-integrated mobile POS. But the real benefit of attending Crosstalk was hearing about the experiences of retailers and partners.  Here are are a few interesting facts I picked up: At Kohl's, the most popular website accessed by customers within their stores is Facebook.  With all the buzz about showrooming, I was really expecting it to be Amazon. Daphne, a Chinese shoe retailer, is opening 3 new stores per day.  Being located near the factories allows them to have a very agile supply chain as well. Disney Stores have increased sales by 25% at stores upgraded to include Mobile POS.  They continue to lead the pack with excellent customer experiences. Quicksilver reported that 1 in 5 visits to their website comes from a tablet.  More evidence that tablets are replacing traditional PCs in households. By tagging shoes with RFID, Saks is able to ensure all shoe models are on display.  If a model is not being displayed, it has no chance of being sold. Additionally, there were awards, store tours on Michigan Avenue, fireworks at Navy Pier, and the Oracle Retail house band, Bolo313, performing at Solider Field.  Speaking of which, a few retailers got on stage and jammed with band -- possible rival to Rock & Roll Retail?   • Including email, IMs, configs, etc. in documentation or notes

    The shop I work in is pretty laid-back. We're on a documentation kick, only because historically we've been very bad with it. We do a lot of our brainstorming in face-to-face meetings, and also do a lot of communication via IM in addition to email. While I'm usually pretty good about documentation and keeping copious lab notes, I just finished a build of a host and spent hours searching through IMs, emails, files on my workstation, etc. to pull out anything I missed in my lab notes, which formed a large amount of the basis for the internal documentation. Does anyone have any thoughts on, aside from manually saving things to a project directory, managing various data sources (especially email and IM) and tracking them on project basis? Ideally, I'd like an easy way to put copies of emails, IM logs, etc. into a project-specific directory on my workstation and then just have a cron job that syncs that up with a shared folder. This isn't really a candidate for anything more advanced, as the bulk of the data will be copies of configs, code, etc. Here are the big restrictions: Email is via a centralized Zimbra install, so nothing can happen server-side. My workstation is Linux. Aside from writing Pidgin and Thunderbird plugins that let me tag chats and emails as belonging to a project, and then copy them to the appropriate place... any thoughts?   • Automatic incremental SQL Script generation for incremental, nightly builds when using Team Build in

    hi all, hope that everybody here is OK. We are using VS 2008 as development tool, TFS 2008 as version control as well as build automation. Some of our developer use dbpro for databases changes and some use SQL Server management studio. I am trying to automate build for Web Application built using C# and VB.Net. Our scenario is such that we have a central database to which our web application connects. Whenever we supply our clients with a new functionality or a bug fix, we supply them incremental builds. The SQL script is checked into source control for every incremental build when they have made and tested there changes on our central DB Server. I want to generate Differential script that can be run at the client as an incremental update script. Now to come about it is a problem. Sometimes our developers tend to forget the database change-sets and the script in the source control is missing an SP or a two. Also, sometimes we need to insert default data into some of the tables that have strict stringent values and not test values. Like a table that contains Services provided by the panel, we add a new service name, signature, credentials and service address, etc etc in the ServiceTable. Besides this many other tables may have test data that may not be needed. If we use DataCompare, it will generate changeset for required data (important for client to enable certain services) and our test data that was added to the database as a result of our testing of the functionality or bug fix. Currently i am using SQLSchemaCompareTask (from Visual Studio 2008 Team Database Professional Power Tools API) in the TFSBuild.proj file of the build definition for TFS 2008. Using SQLSchemaCompareTask, the script generated contains database names like [dbo]. etc which are not desired as the script fails when run against SQL Server 2000 databses (Some of our client still use SQL Server 2000) databases as teh backend of the application. Also default data can't be generated by this process. To overcome this problem, i have to come up with a solution that can compare databases and generate script automatically that does not have to be manually reviewed again before being sent to the client. Please suggest effective methodology of such SQL script generation and suggest whether two different databases may be used or something ? Is there any toolkit or api that can enable build automation for SQL Server databases? Thank you all. Regards Steve

  • Equivalent of LaTeX's \label and \ref in HTML.

    I have an FAQ in HTML (example) in which the questions refer to each other a lot. That means whenever we insert/delete/rearrange the questions, the numbering changes. LaTeX solves this very elegantly with \label and \ref -- you give items simple tags and LaTeX worries about converting to numbers in the final document. How do people deal with that in HTML? ADDED: Note that this is no problem if you don't have to actually refer to items by number, in which case you can set a tag with <a name="foo"> and then link to it with <a href="#foo">some non-numerical way to refer to foo</a>. But I'm assuming "foo" has some auto-generated number, say from an <ol> list, and I want to use that number to refer to and link to it.

    I'm re-working some prototype code into a policy based design in C++, and I'm wondering what the best practice is for documenting the design. My current plan is to document: Policy hierarchy Overview of each policy Description of each type/value/function in each policy I was thinking of putting this into a doxygen module, but this looks like it will be a bit awkward since formatting will have to be done by hand without code to base the doc on (that is, documenting the policies rather than the implementation of the policies). So my questions are: Are there other aspects of the design that should be documented? Are there any tricks to doing this efficiently in doxygen? Is there a tool other than doxygen thats better suited to this? What are some examples of well documented policy based design? This is my first serious attempt at policy based design. I think I have a working grasp of the principles, but whatever naivety I expose in this question is fair game for an answer too.

Prefixing F: or M: silences the compiler, but E: also does, so I'm unsure what prefix is correct.

    I would like some tool, preferably one that plugs into VS 2008/2010, that will go through my methods and add XML comments about the possible exceptions they can throw. I don't want the <summary> or other XML tags to be generated for me because I'll fill those out myself, but it would be nice if even on private/protected methods I could see which exceptions could be thrown. Otherwise I find myself going through the methods and hovering on all the method calls within them to see the list of exceptions, then updating that method's <exception list to include those. Maybe a VS macro could do this? The tool would also need to eliminate duplicates, like if two calls within a method are documented as throwing DirectoryNotFoundException, the method would only list <exception cref="System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException"/> once.

This was a full day event with various sessions on J2EE 6, Java Concurrency, NoSQL, MongoDB, Oracle 12c, Oracle ADF etc. It was an overwhelming response from students, auditorium was jam packed with 600+ LPU energetic students of B.Tech and MCA stream. Navein Juneja Sr. Director LPU gave the keynote and introduced the speakers of AIOUG and Delhi & NCR Java User Group (DaNJUG). Mr. Juneja explained about the LPU and its students. He explained how Oracle and Java is most used and accepted technologies in world. Rohit Dhand Additional Dean LPU came on stage and share about how his career started with Oracle databases. He encouraged students to learn these technologies and build their career. Satyendra Kumar vice-president AIOUG thanked LPU and their stuff for organizing such a good technical event and students for their overwhelming response.  He talked about the India Oracle group and its events at various geographical locations all over India. Jitendra Chittoda Co-Leader DaNJUG explained how to make a new Java User Groups (JUG), what are its benefits and how to promote it. He explained how the Indian JUGs are contributing to the different initiatives like Adopt-a-JSR and Adopt-OpenJDK. After the inaugural address event started with two different tracks one for Oracle Database and another for Java and its related technologies.
