    My situation is this: HDD1: Empty 180 GB SSD HDD2: Empty 500 GB HDD (instead of SuperDrive) Accessories: Windows 8 ISO 64 Gig USB stick Second computer SuperDrive in USB enclosure What I need: Install Windows 8 on the SSD in the laptop What I tried: Create bootable USB – Doesn't work. Macbook doesnt show me USB as an option after holding OPTION key. Install Windows through SuperDrive connected via USB – Doesn't work. On the internet, there are thousands of articles telling me all kinds of solutions, expecting me to have Mac OS on my laptop. Is there any solution to this?

    I am trying to install XP SP2 Home on a Dell Inspiron 531s. Yes it came with Vista but I happen to own a legal copy of XP. I bought the hard drive off eBay(used). I changed the bios settings to boot from CD and when I start up the computer it goes to the hard drive which says its been cleaned using eban XX.XXX.XXX. My problem is that I can't get the PC to boot from the XP disk. I have tried putting the disk into another PC it works. I have put the bad hard drive back in and the dvd+rw works. I am really stumped and am beginning to think that the hard drive is unusable. I only have the sata cords for 1 hard drive to be hooked up at a time. Any ideas or suggestions or confirmation that I can't use this hard drive would be appreciated. Yes I am probably a 'noob' but I have installed XP and Vista many times without any problems. I don't need to be put down on my level of experience I just need answers. Thanks Everyone

    I was wondering if you always install software on the same partition as Windows 7 system? What kinds of software do you install on the same partition as Windows system? What kinds of software you install on another partition? If you install software on another partition, do you install them on a dedicated partition to these software? Or do you install them on the same partition as data (personal data)? How do you plan the sizes for the partition(s) in either case? What are to consider when making plans about the above questions? The software I am installing include: Matlab, Mathematica, IDEs, compilers or Interpreters for C++, C, Java, R, Python, Perl, Lisp, Latex, and database. Mainly for programming and typesetting kinds of studies and projects.

    We're just purchasing a dedicated windows 2003 server (in fact I think it's a VPS) How do we actually go about installing software on to it? Simply searching for "installing PHP5 on windows server" just produces material about installing it as if one had access to the computer with a keyboard and mouse. Am I being thick? I've had experience managing a linux server before but that had everything pre-configured and we accessed it via Web Hosting Manager. I don't get the actual concept of connecting to a remote PC and...downloading files? If there's any good books available please point me in the right direction.

  • Do I have to reinstall Mac OS in case something goes wrong during a Windows Boot Camp install?

    I have a Macbook laptop running Snow Leopard, there's absolutely no information on the laptop, just a few unimportant files on it, I wanted to use Boot Camp Assistant (version 3) to create a partition and install Windows on it to run Windows alongside Mac OS. My CD/DVD drive doesn't work at all so I'm gonna have to mount Windows on a USB stick and install it from there. My question is, when I start Boot Camp it asks me to back up my files but I have nothing to back up, I was just wondering, in case I go through with the Windows install and something goes wrong do I have to reinstall Snow Leopard? My Snow Leopard install DVD can't be read by the laptop that's why I ask, I wouldn't know what to do if I had to reinstall it.

  • Install Windows 8 on SSD and Program & Users on HDD

    I have been dealing with a few problems while installing Windows 8 on my computer. On my old configuration, I had Windows 7 installed on my 60Go SSD, and my programs and user data on my 1To HDD, thanks to relative links. Yet, while installing Windows 8 on my SSD, he made a small partition on my HDD "System related". Plus, I'm afraid using only links is a bit cheap, and I saw lots of people messing with their registry when trying to put user data on another drive. I read a lot about optimizing Windows 8 for SSD, putting Users on another drive, and very similar situation that didn't quite correspond to what I was trying to achieve. Here's what I tried : http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/4275-user-profiles-relocate-another-partition-disk.html Booting on Audit mode and using an XML to relocate Users didn't work as the specified version in the file is a test one, and I don't what to enter if I'm using the last release. Booting with the install DVD in repair mode to do a copy of the User and create a relative link, resulting in an error on the logon screen while entering my password saying that "The profile can't be load" (average translation of my error from french to english) Do anyone know how to do a clean separated install of Windows 8, with OS on a drive, and the other data on a second one ?     Hello. Is there some compatibility problem between SQL Server 2005 Express and AMD processors? I read something along those lines on various sites, but found nothing 100% definitive. I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 Express on a computer that runs Windows Vista Home Premium, 32-bit edition, and the CPU is "AMD Turion Dual-Core RM-70". I tried both the 32-bit and 64-bit installers, just in case, and the process runs fine until the moment the service attempts to start, where it fails with the same error every time. I'm sorry I can't provide more details or the exact message, it was on a client computer to which I have no access at the moment. I hope someone could shed some light on this. Thank you.

    I am trying to install ububtu on an external drive. I am a programmer who wants to start using Linux. I downloaded the usb installer from the ubuntu website and followed all the steps. But when I get to the part where I have to setup the partitioning, it says an error when moving forward "No root file system is defined". I've been doing some research and I think that I have to partition the external drive but do not know how to do so. The problem is that I only want 20gb used from that external drive and let the rest be used for storage. I am also a musician and use Pro tools so I would like to keep all my files there, but I dont want ubuntu on my main hardrive since the external one is portable. I'd appreciate it also if you could provide me the steps.

For example, it appears that for Fedora, /usr/lib64 is the 64bit lib, but for Debian based systems, /usr/lib is the 64bit directory. I want to find out if there is a reliable way to determine the correct locations. More specifically, is there a way an install script can determine programmatically which are the correct equivalents for /usr/lib for 32- and 64-bit libraries on a given distribution?

    So, my kid's computer has Windows XP, with no disks. I'm pretty sure it has some viruses on the computer, of the type that don't seem to come out despite trying multiple anti-viral programs on it. I'm ready to just format it and start over again. I have a license sticker on the box, but no media to install it. I strongly suspect the license is OEM, but I don't have any proof. What suggestions would you have? I should say, the computer originally belonged to a business, is probably 6 years old, and I am willing to pay a small charge if required. I don't want to change the OS installed either.

    I have just purchased a copy of Windows 8.1 32-bit/64-bit from the MSDNAA program through my University. It came as an .iso file so I burned it to a DVD and installed / registered without any issues. I just found out it's a 32-bit install though, and I'm running a 64-bit laptop (Dell Studio 1555). The exact produce name I purchased is Microsoft Windows 8.1 Professional 32/64-bit (English). Is that just another name for "32-bit version that also works on 64-bit machines"? I have 4GB and I would like to code for 64-bit architectures so not having a 64-bit environment will be a real pain. I didn't see any options to choose the install type (it had Windows 7 64-bit previously but I completely wiped it). Any ideas?

  • Clean Install Windows on a Acer Aspire Laptop with a Hybrid Drive

    I'd like to do a clean install of Windows 8 on my Acer Aspire laptop (Aspire M5-481PT) with a hybrid drive. Physically, there seem to be two hard drives (an HDD and an SSD). So when I try to clean install Windows, I am asked to pick a drive. The HDD has five partitions (some seem to be recovery related), and the SSD has two partitions. Which partitions should I delete (if any), and onto which drive should I install Windows 8? And then how can I instruct Windows 8 to use the HDD-SSD combination as a hybrid drive? Edit: Currently, the operating system seems to be installed (from the factory) on the HDD. The SSD is invisible in File Explorer. It is only visible in disk utilities. I'm betting I need to install Windows to the HDD, and then point Windows to use the SSD for the hybrid relationship. Also, the SSD is about 20 GB. The HDD is about 450 GB.

What is the best method to deploy software that has no .msi installer, but has switches for silent installs All I can think is to use startup scripts (that will do detect-install/uninstall/upgrade), but I was wondering if there are existing wheel designs in this area...     Hi I've just finished installing Visual Studio 2010 professional onto Vista. But don't seem to have Silverlight 4. If I try to create a new project I can see Silverlight project templates but only seem to be able to target Silverlight 3. Is Silverlight 4 not part of vs2010 pro by default? I also noticed the msbuild targets is missing ie the v4.0 folder doesn't exist at the following folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft\Silverlight\ Any help/thoughts would be much appreciated.     I've installed Helvetica Neue fonts on my Windows. The problem is when websites use Helvetica or Helvetica Neue typeface, they almost exclusively do it simply using "Helvetica" or "Helvetica Neue" font-family. But In my windows, the Helvetica fonts are installed as a "HelveticaNeueLT Com 45 Lt" or "Helvetica LT Std" or similar extended name. I've tried to create my test page, and the browser renders the font properly only if I use the full font name. I'd like to know, how to make windows/browser display Helvetica properly?

  • Problems installing W2K8 SP2

    Hello - We are having difficulty installing SP2 on a W2K8 SP1 x64 server. When we try to do this through Windows Updates, it runs for about 1 minute and then says that it completed successfully (when clearly it did not). When we run the file manually via the download, the install fails with the following error code: 0x800f0823 I have tried running the System Update Readiness Tool (KB947821), but that did not work. Additional info about the server: It is a domain controller, also running MS-Exchange 2007 SP1 (v8.01.0336.000). Any assistance that could be provided would be greatly appreciated. In you need any more info about the server, please let me know! Thanks!

Why doesn't yum find the latest version of node? Do I have to download the .tar.gz from nodejs.org and install it that way?
