• Controlled hyperlink hijaxing

  I am working on a web application. I have a data grid with a 'commands' column that has hyperlinks for some common CRUD operations (Edit, Delete, etc). When a user clicks on say the Edit hyperlink, I retrieve the unique identifier for the data grid row and load a modal form dialog (i am using jQuery UI) so the user is able to edit the row data and subsequently close the modal form dialog at which point I refresh the page. Now, before the page is done refreshing, there's a chance that a user might click on the edit link again, and whenever that happens, 'hijaxing' fails. My question is how can i check that if a user clicks on a hyperlink and the page is refreshing, i delay until it is done refreshing, then i allow the 'hijax' to kick in.

• Separating MySQL SELECT statement based on data in a column

  Hi everyone, I need to retrieve data (vehicle details, in this case) from a MySQL table tabled and then loop through the results to generate separate lists for each category of vehicle. Is there a simple way to do this without having to have a SELECT statement for each type of vehicle?   I come into ASP.NET from php so the reason why i ask my question is because it's totally different nature of how application works and handles requests. well, i have an exists table with user creditians, such as: id, login, password (sha hashed), email, phone, room i have built custom membership provider so it can handle my own database authentication schema. and now i'm confused, because User.Identity.Name contains only user's login, but not the complete object (i'm using linq2sql to communicate with database and i need in it's User object to work). at php applications i just store user object at some static method at Auth class (or some another), but here at ASP.NET MVC i cannot do this, because static member is shared across all requests and permanent, and not lives within only current request (as it was at php). so my question is: how and where should i retrieve and store linq2sql user object to work with it within current and only current request? (after request processed successfully i expect it will be disposed from memory and on next request will be created again). or i'm following totally wrong way?

  I'm using pyPEG to create a parse tree for a simple grammar. The tree is represented using lists and tuples. Here's an example: [('command', [('directives', [('directive', [('name', 'retrieve')]), ('directive', [('name', 'commit')])]), ('filename', [('name', 'f30502')])])] My question is what do I do with it at this point? I know a lot depends on what I am trying to do, but I haven't been able to find much about consuming/using parse trees, only creating them. Does anyone have any pointers to references I might use? • Ruby: Streaming large AWS S3 object freezes

  Hi, I am using the ruby aws/s3 library to retrieve files from Amazon S3. I stream an object and write it to file as per the documentation (with debug every 100 chunks to confirm progress) This works for small files, but randomly freezes downloading large (150MB) files on VPS Ubuntu. Fetching the same files (150MB) from my mac on a much slower connection works just fine. When it hangs there is no error thrown and the last line of debug output is the 'Finished chunk'. I've seen it write between 100 and 10,000 chunks before freezing. Anyone come across this or have ideas on what the cause might be?   Hello! I'm trying to come up with a lightning fast solution to find portions in a string. Here is a Sample string: "PostLoad successful! You transferred amount of 17.00 Rs to 03334224222. Now use PostLoad by dialing 123. PostLoad on SMS will end on 01-03-2011." Objective: Need to retrieve the bold values: Amount and Cell Number. The string contents change slightly but the cell number will always be a 11 digit. The amount is always with two decimal precision. Any suggestions using C# and RegEx?

• How can I compare two jpeg encoding and other inormations

  We have created a Driver programe which connect to a remote host using FTP and mount the remote host as a network drive. So when I try to copy some data it copies using FTP retrieve request and then paste it to the destination. The copy paste works fine as we can see the source file size and destination size are same. But while we try to open the .jpg file that is being copied , says no preview. I suspect there must be some bytes that is being corrupted while we try to copy and paste. Is there any tools so that I can compare both source and destination to get the differences.

  I'm developing a Java application that has performance at its core. I have a list of some 40,000 "final" objects, i.e., I have an initialization input data of 40,000 vectors. This data is unchanged throughout the program's run. I am always preforming lookups against a single ID property to retrieve the proper vectors. Currently I am using a HashMap over a sub-sample of a 1,000 vectors, but I'm not sure it will scale to production. When is BIG, actually big enough for a use of DB? One more thing, an SQLite DB is a viable option as no concurrency is involved, so I guess the "threshold" for db use, is perhaps lower.

  Apologies if this is a basic question, I am just starting with Objective-C and trying to wrap things around in my head! I have a simple class of the form: @interface Whatever : NSObject { int somePrimitive; SomeObject* someObject; } @property (nonatomic) int somePrimitive; @property (nonatomic, retain) SomeObject* someObject; The class is more involved that this, but this illustrates the purpose. When I store instances of this class in a NSMutableDictionary: Whatever *whatever = [[Whatever alloc] init]; whatever.somePrimitive = 1; whatever.someObject = ...; [myDictionary setObject:whatever forKey:@"someKey"]; and then try to retrieve the object later: Whatever *result = [myDictionary valueForKey:@"someKey"]; then, result.someObject is ok to reference but, result.somePrimitive crashes. Does the NSDictionary not copy over the primitives of the object? Is the rule that the object stored in a dictionary should only contain objects?

So, if I have a Citation with an Identifier property containing "foo", but there are no CitationIdentifier records with an Identifier property containing "foo", then I'd like to retrieve that Citation. I'm working with an IDbSet<Citation>. Any ideas? Thanks.

  A portion of my program requires a "flag" retrieval, that is I am fetching a value that is either True or False, and based on this return value two things could follow. 1) The flag is true, aka "go ahead", and I retrieve data from a database. 2) The flag is false, and I want to prevent the data from being retrieved. Now, this check has to be performed before any function that would call upon the database in question. I decided to implement this check in the form of an event handler attached to GUI objects that would trigger this data inquiry. This check event handler is called first upon necessary events, and my question is: How do I stop subsequent event handlers from firing if the FIRST event handler (my flag checker) comes up FALSE?   There's an outlook plugin called Xobni that has a really cool feature, if a contact has an email address, it will fetch that contact's profile picture and display it. Their FAQ states the following: Xobni sends an encrypted email address to Facebook to retrieve the Facebook profile for the person who is currently being viewed in the Xobni sidebar. Your own Facebook profile is never altered by Xobni, and all Facebook privacy settings are strictly followed when viewing other profiles. I'd like to duplicate this functionality. However, I can't figure out which API call they're using. I'm assuming when they say "encrypted email address" that's laymen's terms for the email hash. Once a username is derived, the graph api looks ideal for actually fetching the image, but I'm having trouble going from email hash to profile ID.

• Extracting friends' E-Mail addresses from Facebook (Skype?)

  I am currently in the process of migrating away from Facebook (privacy concerns, mostly). For obvious reasons, I want to save away the email addresses from my friends' profile pages. However, this turned out to be a rather hard task, because the Facebook API doesn't let you access any mail addresses. However, I just tried the automatic contact import feature of Skype, and it seems to be able to retrieve the email addresses of my friends from Facebook. Does anyone know how it's done so I could replicate it?

  I often find myself storing data in a mysql database, and then wanting to display all sorts of stats about my data, specifically stuff like 'how many rows do I have for this date, or that date'. Does anyone know of (or could write) a good tutorial on this subject? Ideally a good tutorial would overview: Best practices when storing the data (i.e. what formats to use, how to use them servertime vs. generated time, etc.) Best practices when selecting data from the database with php (i.e. how to sort rows by date, how to retrieve only rows from a certain date, or a certain hour, etc)..   Hi, I have a ul set up as navigation, which I'll be animating on hover. As all the nav items are different widths, I'll be storing their default widths in an Array, so that on hover out, these widths can be passed back in to the animate method. What I need is a way to find what 'nth-child' the element is in order to retrieve the correct width from the array. Something like: var count = $(this).count(); //obviously this isn't right! So that then I can do: $(this).animate({'width':array(count)}, 400); Any suggestions would help me a lot - and if there's a better way to do this kind of thing I'd gladly accept pointers!

• Amazon SimpleDB - Is there a way to list all Attributes in a Domain?

  Hi, I'm using C# and the AWSSDK library form Amazon to test a few things in SimpleDB. All going well so far. However, I am trying to come up with a neat way of retrieving all Attributes that are applicable to a Domain. This is proving to be tricky without having to retrieve an Item, and obviously I can get the list of attributes then. But what if I have 100,000 Items in a Domain. Let's say the first 70,000 Items in a "Person" Domain have: FirstName, LastName, Address And then I hit a Item that has FirstName, LastName, Address, Phone And then I hit another Item around the 80,000 mark which has: FirstName, LastName, Email, Phone In the above example, for the Person Domain, how would I get a list that contains: FirstName, LastName, Address, Email, Phone ...without performing a ridiculous number of select statements?   hi, My needs are very simple: I have a Tip table to receive comments and have comments to receive comments, too. To retrieve each comment that is stored in the same table (comments), I created another key for the comments on comments: "inverse_comments". I tried to use one comments table by using self-referntial association. Some resources seem to bring more than one table into the piture which are diffent from my needs. So I came up whth the following modeling for comments: class Comment < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :tip belongs_to :user has_many :mycomments, :through => :inverse_comments, :source => :comment end Apparently something is missing here but I cannot figure it out. Could some one enlighten me on this: what changes I need to do to make the model work? thanks.

• Several different project types in solution use same class. Where can I place this class?

  I have one solution with 3 related projects: 1) a Windows console app that reads data and stores it to a mssql DB, 2) WCF service that will retrieve from mssql data, 3) website that will read from the WCF. There could be other projects in the future. The first two projects (and any related future projects) use a Sqlhelper class. Should I create a separate project for it? The most ideal one would be a class library, but I don't know if a WCF invoking a DLL is correct. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

• Using the same cookie in two logins

  Hi everyone, I need your help I've a MVC project that uses Jquery, where I've implemented a mechanism of "Remember Me" using cookies to save, clear and retrieve the login and password. I also have two screens where the user does the login. I want that both logins manipulate the same cookie. I've got to implement it, but I've realized that each one has a different behaviour. I mean, the cookie's value I save in the first login is not the same than the value that retrieves the second login (when I open it). In other words, if I mark "remind me" on the first login, it isn't reflected on the second login and viceversa. What can I do to make that both of them manipulate and read the same values from the same cookie? Is it possible? PS: For this situations I'm using the same web navigator: Firefox or IE.
