• Simple form validation

  Hi, I have a site with a simple contact form using ASP for customers to e-mail quote requests. However, I'm getting quite a few messages through with no contact information; I think people assume that their e-mail address is coming through automatically. I'd like a simple way to make the e-mail and/or telephone number fields required, preferably so that the fields are highlighted as such if they're submitted without anything in them. I've Googled for this but they seem either too simple, diverting people to a separate page and requiring a 'back click', or incredibly complicated with massive reams of code. Any suggestions?

• Do search engines rank internal redirects negatively?

  A client is in the late stages (code complete) of a website redesign and unfortunately hasn't implemented 301 redirects to point high traffic pages to the new URL's. As I understand it our only option at this point is to create redirects within the CMS. Our CMS allows us to do this: www.mysite.com/category/current-page.html will redirect to www.mysite.com/new-category-name/new-page.html The site now uses custom logic on our 404 page to check this list of redirects and if one exists forwards the user to the new-page.html I understand that using 301 redirects would be the correct way to maintain our page rank but I think that would require a code change which isn't possible. Question How will search engines respond to this? Will they wait until the redirect happens and allow us to keep our page rank (authority, trust, etc) or will they see the 404 page and down-rank us? Worst case...will they make our new-page.html start from a rank of "0"? Thanks for your help.

• Kubuntu 12.04 Won't let me search for wireless network

  Hello I'm running a brand new Kubuntu 12.04 single boot on my laptop, this is the first time I tried connecting to a wireless network. I tried using the network manager app allready on the task bar, but it doesn't let me tick the column to search for wireless networks, i.e. it will untick it automaticaly, it's dissabled by the software or the hardware, but I doubt it. I've tried searching the other questions on this site, and I can't see anything which helps with my problem. I know my wireless card is a Atheros AR9285, I don't think I installed any firmware for it, I'm sorry I can't offer more info but I'm completely new to networking and all that I have for the network to connect to are it's name and password of course.

• part of google search appliance drawing from http instead of https

  we are using the google search appliance in our web app. It is used by several other parts of our organization but we are using it on a web app that uses https. So, we followed google's instructions to get all the google code via https so that users don't get the annoying "This page contains both secure and insecure items" popup. Most of the google code has behaved and come to us as https, but there is a part of it pulling from http://www.google.com/cse full URL = http://www.google.com/cse?q=searchTerma&cx=001025153263958516519%3Aj2323tveixc&cof=FORID%3A11%3BNB%3A1&ie... that causes the insecure items warning to popup. This popup occurs in the results page and the above URL is the only non-secure request I can find.

• How to make content display on their proper pages on search engines

  So my site has a blog and gallery, both working the same way. There's an index, and each post has a permalink going to the individual entry. However, if I search for some of the content on Google, often it returns a link to the index, just because it happened to have been on the first page when it was crawled, instead of the individual post pages. This is especially true in cases of images. How can I make it so that Google returns the proper pages for the posts instead of just the main page of my site? My whole site is custom php code I made.

  I am currently working on a challenge; basically using google api; I would search for facebook fan pages; most specifically the "about" timeline for the email add and the date the business was founded. So far I have come to this: site:facebook.com/pages + "business type" + "country" + "@email.com" I need to add something else so that it can give me back the date it was founded in. If you see the facebook fan page in the about section; there is for e.g (Founded 06/02/2010) The bracketed info above is what I need to add to succeed in adding to the string above; any idea?

  Possible Duplicate: What are the most important things I need to do to encourage Google Sitelinks? Hello, I am new to search engine optimization. I am working on customizing how my results appear in Google as best as possible. I have learned about the meta tags to customize the text summary. However, I have some hierarchical parts to my website. When a result appears related to the "tip-of-the-iceberg", I would like to show links related to the "child" pages. For instance, if you Google "Walmart" you will see the following links listed with the result: Electronics TV & Video Departments Furniture Toys Girls Living Room Computers Is there any way that I can help Google determine which links to show and the text to display for these child links on my site? Or is this something that Google automatically generates? thanks!

• Working on the search

  The one thing I've always like working on and about this site, is the full text search engine and spider. Bascially it goes out and spiders all the major development blogs on the web, and then indexes them. The engine uses Lucene for it's index. Lucene is another open source project and it works really fast. Currently the directory is indexed, and the rss feeds are underway.   I have read somewhere that ROA (Resource Oriented Architecture) is SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) with specific constraints added. SOA is the abstract concept of combining discrete pieces of software and ROA is an implementation of SOA with all of the constraints of RESTful services applied to it: SOA = the concept ROA = the concept + specific implementation details I also had my share of posts saying that ROA is different than SOA, then simply fallback to statements like "ROA is REST" and "SOA is SOAP" and presenting the same more or less pertinent comparisons and differences between SOAP and REST. So just to clear up my confusion: Is ROA a specific form of doing SOA?

  I'm using an ajax registration form plugin for my website and I'm thinking to implement also Paypal. Here is how I want to implement it : I have 3 labels ( Name, Phone, Email, ) and a " Buy " button. After the user is typing his name, phone and email they click on "Buy" and they will be redirected to the paypal payment page or if it's possible to stay on the same page. Probably, what I need to know is how to make the "Buy " only after the forms ( name, phone, email ) are validated. Is there a plugin, or a snippet of code already made to not start something which already exists.

• How to approach multiple page form with just one save option

  The screen shot shows the magento product upload page. The left nav allows you to switch to different options for the product. Basically each option in the left nav appears as a different page. However when you save and close, it will save all the updates made on each page. Using Foundation4, html, css, js - what would be the best approach to replicating something similar? Say I want 3 pages and one save button option. Using http://foundation.zurb.com/docs/components/section.html#panel2 and having the save buttons the top line form level seems a possible option.

  I get TONS of email from customer. Over time, this email helps me to determine what areas in our product collection are opportunities for enhancement or improvement. I store the email that comes from my blog contact form in folders and then search through them looking for trends periodically. • How to populate a form list with buttons using javascript

  I made a script that, when you press one button(accessories) the selection(mylist) populates with one array(accessoryData), and when you hit the other button(weapons) the other array(weaponData) populates the selection. However, in the current state of the code the second button press is not re-populating the selection. What is wrong here? Also if there is a more efficient way to do this, that might be helpful. • Magento Subscription Form with Image upload

  We have a peculiar requirement and our site is in magento. Requirement We want the user to fill in a personal information form with their image. After that, the user should be redirected to a product subscription page where he can select either 3 month, 6 month or on yearly basis. Now, when the selection is made, the user should make the payment via our payment method. How can I develop this? I am not able to figure it out. For example Purpose of Website: (sell products, reduce number of enquires, reduce work load, etc) Do you have you’re an existing logo? (can you send it via email) Do you have a preferred font for the website text? Do you have a colour theme for your logo, business cards, shop you would like to keep on the website Do you have photos you can provide of your Products? etc Ofcause it would need to be tweaked slightly for each customer but I was looking for a generic document as a baseline.

  So I have created a video website which has thousands of videos and thousands of videos get added to it on a daily basis. Here is my problem :- I have created a website which basically loads the skeleton in html and puts all the content through javascript and Ajax. The problem is search engines aren't going anywhere except for the home page. Is there a way say in robots.txt where i give a link to a single html which has links to all these videos ? I agree my site is not accessible for a non-javascript user but stats show that this ratio is very low ( 0.2 % ). Is there a way I can still keep the complete AJAX website and still get each individual videos listed on google ?

  Possible Duplicate: How to SEO a Single-Page website I created an online CV of mine a couple of weeks ago and it has had quite a few visits. Now I want to improve the chance it will appear in google search results; however, my web CV is a one-paged site and it contains only internal links (those with hash #) so I can't really submit a sitemap. I could have changed the internal links to normal links to be processed on server-side, but there's no point of doing so. I'm very new to web SEO so I would really appreciate if somebody can show me what should I do with a single-paged site with internal links to be effectively indexed by crawlers.

This search cannot be based on local database, as it needs live data (of available domains). The only possible way (to me) is to fetch every query from the original NIC (e.g. nic.com), but I was unable to find an API for this service.
