  • Zipping folder with absolute path without keeping tree of folders

    I am attempting to use the zip -r command to zip a folder which includes two files. I need to pass the absolute path of the folder with two files (/path/to/my/files/), which is causing all of the folders to be zipped with it, where as I only need the last folder (files/) and its contents to be zipped, so that when the file is unzipped, there is only one folder and the two files within it. How can I modify the command to be able to pass the absolute paths in the arguments while keeping only the last folder?

  • How do I full-screen my CMD?

    I work a LOT in the windows command line. Unlike other windows, it doesn't maximize - it just goes a big as it can depending on the buffer size. Is there any way I can get the CMD to act like the PuTTY console, flowing with the resize? NOTE: The answer doesn't have to be a tweak to the CMD. How can I now for example add brightness or any other filter to that stream from the commandline?

  • Count requests from access log for the last 7 days

    I would like to parse an access log file and have returned the amount of requests, for the last 7 days. I have this command cut -d'"' -f3 /var/log/apache/access.log | cut -d' ' -f2 | sort | uniq -c | sort -rg Unfortunately, this command returns the amount of requests since the creation of the file and sorts it into HTTP-code categories. I would like just a number, no categories and only for the last 7 days. Thanks.

    Can anyone recommend a linux command line tool to monitor the number of bytes transferred between the local server and a specified IP address/port. The equivalent tcpdump command would be: tcpdump -s 0 -i any -w mycapture.trc port 80 host google.com which outputs : 46 packets captured 131 packets received by filter 0 packets dropped by kernel I'd like something similar that outputs: 54 bytes out, 176 bytes in I'd like it to work on RHEL and be free/open-source. It would be good if there was an existing tool which I was just missing too!

    I have a Windows 2003 server running a SSH server (WRQ Reflection), how would I ssh to it and specify a specific drive letter? (like the D: drive) ex: from another workstation: ssh [email protected] d: When I do that it fails and I get this error: "exec request failed on channel 0" If I simply SSH to that same windowsbox without trying to specify a drive letter I get a Windows (CMD.EXE) command prompt shell on the C: drive. I can then run any windows command. Thanks

  • Is it possible to copy a set of files, but automatically skip if file already exists?

    I know that the copy command has an option to automatically replace a file if it already exists, but I want to know if it is a way to copy the files only if they not already exist (/Y). I do not know the actual file names in the batch code, as I copy from the source using wildcards in the copy command: copy *.zip c:\destination The reason I want this instead of automatic overwrite is that the files are large, and to skip existing would save a lot of execution time.

    I'm trying to figure out how to use the linux "find" command (or another command that will get the job done) to return a list of file paths/directories that do not contain a directory of a certain name. ~/web/domain1.com/public_html/bar ~/web/domain2.com/public_html/ ~/web/domain3.com/public_html/bar ~/web/domain4.com/public_html/ I want all of the paths that don't contain the directory named "bar" (domain2.com and domain4.com). Any idea how I can get find to output such a list? Thanks!

    I have a directory on my Windows 7 machine that has hundreds if not thousands of sub-directories. Some of them have files, some do not. I want to delete all the empty directories. Looking at the del and rmdir DOS command, it does not look like you can recursively do this without deleting all the files. Is there a way to do this from the command line? Or is there a tool that would do it for me?

  • Thunderbird, Windows 7: How can I get a unique list of people who have sent me an email

    Is there some command within Thunderbird or command line to will allow me to pipe a list of all email addresses I've received emails from to a file? I would like to do this for a specific email account and folder within Thunderbird as well, and not just all of my accounts. I can also define parameters under the Command element in the menus extension point when defining menu contributions. I can define a value for the parameter here. Are the command parameters in Command different from parameters in menu contributions? If they are different how are they different?

    Hi, I have 1 minute wav file recordings. To check whether there is no voice present in the file, I am using Goldwave to trim the silence which lefts the file size very small in few Kbs. This tells me that there is no sound in most part of the file. When I opened the email I was relieved as it was Mathematics problem with SQL Server. My friend received following error while working with SQL Server. Msg 3623, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 An invalid floating point operation occurred. The reasons for the error is simply that invalid usage of the mathematical function is attempted. Let me give you a few examples of the same. SELECT SQRT(-5); SELECT ACOS(-3); SELECT LOG(-9); If you run any of the above functions they will give you an error related to invalid floating point. Honestly there is no workaround except passing the function appropriate values. SQRT of a negative number will give you result in real numbers which is not supported at this point of time as well LOG of a negative number is not possible (because logarithm is the inverse function of an exponential function and the exponential function is NEVER negative). When I send above reply to my friend he did understand that he was passing incorrect value to the function. As mentioned earlier the only way to fix this issue is finding incorrect value and avoid passing it to the function. Every mathematics function is different and there is not a single solution to identify erroneous value passed. If you are facing this error and not able to figure out the solution.     SQL Server management Studio 2008 is wonderful tool and has many different features. Many times, an average user does not use them as they are not aware about these features. Today, we will learn one such feature. SSMS comes with many inbuilt performance and activity reports, but we do not use it to the full potential. Let us see how we can access these standard reports. Connect to SQL Server Node >> Right Click on it >> Go to Reports >> Click on Standard Reports >> Pick Any Report. Click to Enlarge You can see there are many reports, which an average users needs right away, are available there. Let me list all the reports available. Server Dashboard Configuration Changes History Schema Changes History Scheduler Health Memory Consumption Activity – All Blocking Transactions Activity – All Cursors Activity – All Sessions Activity – Top Sessions Activity – Dormant Sessions Activity -  Top Connections Top Transactions by Age Top Transactions by Blocked Transactions Count Top Transactions by Locks Count Performance – Batch Execution Statistics Performance – Object Execution Statistics Performance – Top Queries by Average CPU Time Performance – Top Queries by Average IO Performance – Top Queries by Total CPU Time Performance – Top Queries by Total IO Service Broker Statistics Transactions Log Shipping Status In fact, when you look at the above list, it is fairly clear that they are very thought out and commonly needed reports that are available in SQL Server 2008.
