    Hi, I have a problem in a c# projet. In fact, i did a PowerPoint-add-in and i want to generate Charts on Slides. I create a slide with : using PowerPoint = Microsoft.Office.Interop.PowerPoint; using Microsoft.Office.Interop.Graph; Microsoft.Office.Interop.Graph.Chart objChart; objChart = (Microsoft.Office.Interop.Graph.Chart)objShape.OLEFormat.Object;` The chart is create on the slide but i can't access to the data to update or insert. I have try with the Datasheet like below : //DataSheet test = objChart.Application.DataSheet; //test.Cells.Clear() This delete the data of the chart but i dont find a solution to insert values in the chart data after.     I'm working with MS Excel interop in C# and I don't understand how this particular line of code works: var excel = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application(); where Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application is an INTERFACE defined as: [Guid("000208D5-0000-0000-C000-000000000046")] [CoClass(typeof(ApplicationClass))] public interface Application : _Application, AppEvents_Event { } I'm thinking that some magic happens when the interface is decorated with a CoClass attribute, but still how is it possible that we can create an instance of an interface with a new keyword? Shouldn't it generate a compile time error?

    I am trying to get cells from excel into csharp but not sure what's the best variable type to read it into. If I make the variable a string and the cell value is a double I get a parse error. If I make the variable double then when the cell is a string it wont work.     Hi there, Im building an Silverlight Application (Silverlight 4, Visual Studio 2010), in which the user can generate Charts (line-Charts, Bar Chart) dynamically, by entering a specific time period. At the Moment i have no idea how to import the data to Silverlight, to generate the Charts. My data is stored in 4 Excel Tables and i have no clue what would be the best way to get that data into Silverlight? I read a lot of examples using SQL Server as Database, but unfortunatly SQL Server is no choice for me. Any help would be great!

  • Methods for making R plots look like Excel plots?

    I've been poking around with R graphical parameters trying to make my plots look a little more professional (e.g., las=1, bty="n" usually help). But not quite there. Started playing with tikzDevice. A huge improvement! Amazing how much better things look when the font sizes and styles in the figure match those of the surrounding document. Still, not quite there. What I'm ultimately looking for are those professional gradient shading, rounded corners, and shadow effects found in MS Excel plots. I know they're probably considered chart junk, but I like them. They're just nice looking. Q: How can I get these effects into my R plots? Do people usually just export to Inkscape and doodle over there? It would be nice if there were a literate programming approach. Is there an R package that handles these effects outright?

    There are many different types of analyses, each one with its own pros and cons. Relational reports have a predefined structure, and end users cannot change it. They are simple to use for end users. Reports can use real-time data and snapshots of data to show the state of a report at specific points in time. One of the drawbacks is that report authoring is limited to IT pros and advanced users. Any kind of dynamic restructuring is very limited. If real-time data is used for a report, the report has a negative impact on the performance of the source system. Processing of the reports might be slow because the data comes from relational database management systems, which are not optimized for reporting only. If you create a semantic model of your data, your end users can create ad-hoc report structures. However, the development is more complex because a developer is needed to create these semantic models. For OLAP, you typically use specialized database management systems. You get lightning speed of analyses. End users can use rich and thin clients to interactively change the structure of the report. Typically, they do it graphically. However, the development of an OLAP system is many times quite complex. It involves the preparation and maintenance of an enterprise data warehouse and OLAP cubes. In order to exploit the possibility of real-time restructuring of reports, the users must be both active and educated. The data is usually stale, as it is loaded into data warehouses and OLAP cubes with a scheduled process. With data mining, a structure is not selected in advance; it searches for the structure. As a result, data mining can give you the most valuable results because you can discover patterns you did not expect. A data mining model structure is limited only by the attributes that you use to train the model. One of the drawbacks is that a lot of knowledge is needed for a successful data mining project. End users have to understand the results. Subject matter experts and IT professionals need to understand business problem thoroughly. The development might be sometimes even more complex than the development of OLAP cubes. Each type of analysis has its own place in an enterprise system. SQL Server has tools for all kinds of analyses. However, data mining is the most advanced way of analyzing the data; this is the “I” in BI.     I'm trying to write a stored procedure that will read an Excel file into a temp table, then massage some of the data in that table, then insert selected rows from that table into a permanent table. So, it starts like this: SET @SQL = "select * into #mytemptable FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0', 'Excel 8.0;Database="+@file+";HDR=YES', 'SELECT * FROM [Sheet1$]')" EXEC (@SQL) That much seems to work. However, if I then try something like this: Select * from #mytemptable I get an error: Invalid object name '#mytemptable' Why isn't #mytemptable recognized? Is there a way to have #mytemptable accessible to the rest of the stored procedure? Many thanks in advance!

  • How to programatically read native DLL imports in C#?

    The large hunk of C# code below is intended to print the imports of a native DLL. I copied it from from this link and modified it very slightly, just to use LoadLibraryEx as Mike Woodring does here. I find that when I call the Foo.Test method with the original example's target, MSCOREE.DLL, it prints all the imports fine. But when I use other dlls like GDI32.DLL or WSOCK32.DLL the imports do not get printed. What's missing from this code that would let it print all the imports as, for example, DUMPBIN.EXE does? (Is there a hint I'm not grokking in the original comment that says, "using mscoree.dll as an example as it doesnt export any thing"?)   • Why are cookies unrecognized when a link is clicked from an external source (i.e. Excel, Word, etc..

    I noticed that when a link is clicked externally from the web browser, such as from Excel or Word, that my session cookie is initially unrecognized, even if the link opens up in a new tab of the same browser window. The browser ends up recognizing its cookie eventually, but I am puzzled as to why that initial link from Excel or Word doesn't work. To make it even more challenging, clicking a link works fine from Outlook. Does anybody know why this might be happening? I'm using the Zend Framework with PHP 5.3.

  • .NET access to the GPU for compute purposes

    In the distant past I talked about GPGPU and Microsoft's then approach of DirectCompute. Since then of course we now have C++ AMP coming out with Visual Studio 11, so there is a mainstream easier way for developers to access the GPU for compute purposes, using C++. The question occasionally arises of how can a .NET developer access the GPU for compute purposes from their C# (or VB) code. The answer is by interoping from the managed code to a native DLL and in the native DLL use C++ AMP. As a long term .NET developer myself, I can tell you this is straightforward. Sure, there could have been a managed wrapper for C++ AMP, but honestly that is the reason we have interop – it doesn't make much sense to invest resources to solve a problem that is already solved (most developer customers would prefer investments in other areas of Visual Studio!).     I was attempting to install Visual Studio 2012 Express Version on windows 7, but got the following error. The error talks about some Interop Assem, which I believe is related to Microsoft Office. I tried to install the Interop Assem, but it seems that they cannot be installed for Starter Versions of the Microsoft Office. So, how do I go about installing Visual Studio 2012 on my Windows 7 machine, without full version of Microsoft Office installed, Or the error is related to something else. Update: I have tried to install the following Interop Assem but the installation terminates without any status.

  • How to figure out who owns a worker thread that is still running when my app exits?

    Not long after upgrading to VS2010, my application won't shut down cleanly. If I close the app and then hit pause in the IDE, I see this: The problem is, there's no context. The call stack just says [External code], which isn't too helpful. Here's what I've done so far to try to narrow down the problem: deleted all extraneous plugins to minimize the number of worker threads launched set breakpoints in my code anywhere I create worker threads (and delegates + BeginInvoke, since I think they are labeled "Worker Thread" in the debugger anyway). None were hit. set IsBackground = true for all threads While I could do the next brute force step, which is to roll my code back to a point where this didn't happen and then look over all of the change logs, this isn't terribly efficient. Can anyone recommend a better way to figure this out, given the notable lack of information presented by the debugger? The only other things I can think of include: read up on WinDbg and try to use it to stop anytime a thread is started. At least, I thought that was possible... :) comment out huge blocks of code until the app closes properly, then start uncommenting until it doesn't. UPDATE Perhaps this information will be of use. I decided to use WinDbg and attach to my application. I then closed it, and switched to thread 0 and dumped the stack contents.   • Problem in filtering records using Dataview (C#3.0)

    I have a data table . The data table is basically getting populated from excel sheet. And there are many excel sheets. Henceforth, I have written a utility method for accomplishing the same. Now in some of the excel sheets, there are date columns and in some it is not(only text/string). My function is populating the values properly into the datatable from the excell sheet. But there are many blank rows in the excel sheets some are filled with NULL , some with " ". So I need to filter those records (which are NULL or " " ) first before further processing. What I am after is to use a dataview and apply the filter over there. DataView dv = dataTable.DefaultView; dv.RowFilter = ColumnName + " <> ''"; Well by using metedata (GetOleDbSchemaTable(OleDbSchemaGuid.Columns, restrection)) I was able to get the column names from the excel sheet , so getting the column names is not an issue. But the problem is as I said in some Excel sheet there are date fileds some are not. So the Filter condition of the Dataview needs to be proper. If I apply the above logic, and if it encounters a Datafield, it is throwing error Cannot perform '<' operation on System.DateTime and System.String. Could you people please help me out? I need to filter columns(not known at compile time + their data types) which can have NULL and " " I am using C#3.0 Thanks

  • How do I know if I am using Scrum methodologies?

    When I first started at my current job, my purpose was to rewrite a massive excel-VBA workbook-application to C# Winforms because it was thought that the new C# app will fix all existing problems and have all the new features for a perfect world. If it were a direct port, in theory it would be easy as i just need to go through all the formulas, conditional formatting, validations, VBA etc. to understand it. However, that was not the case. Many of the new features are tightly dependant on business logic which I am unfamiliar with. As a solo programmer, the first year was spent solely on deciphering the excel workbook and writing the C# app. In theory, I had the business people to "help" me specify requirements, how GUI looks and work, and testing of the app etc; but in practice it is like a contant tsunami of feature creep. At the beginning of the second year I managed to convince the management that this is not going anywhere. I made them start from scratch with the excel-VBA. I have this "issue log" saved on the network, each time they found something they didn't like about the excel-VBA app, they will write it in there. I check the log daily and consolidate issues (in my mind) mainly into 2 groups: (1) requires massive change. (2) can be fixed in current version. For massive change issues, I make a copy of the latest excel-VBA and give it a new version number, then work on it whenever I can. For current version fixes, I make the changes in a few days to a week, and then immediately release it. I also ensure I update the same change in any in-progress massive change future versions. This has gone on for about 4 months and I feel it works great. I made many releases and solved many real issues, also understood the business logic more and more. However, my boss (non-IT trained) thinks what I am doing are just adhoc changes and that i am not looking at the "bigger picture". I am struggling to convince my boss that this works. So I hope to formalise my approach and maybe borrow a buzzword to confuse him. Incidentally, I read about Agile and SCRUM, about backlog and sprints. But it's all very vague to me still. QUESTION (finally): I want to tell him that this is SCRUM! But I want to hold my breath first and ask whether my current approach is considered SCRUM or SCRUM-like? How can I make it more SCRUM-like? Note that I have only myself, there's no project leader or teams.

My data not in spreadsheet in Excel but in a MS Access database table. So in order to avoid constant switching between Access and Excel and I would like to handle everything in Access (either Access 2007 or 2010). I know there are pivot tables in Access and I know how to display one, but I was unable to find out how to count the number of occurrences. Thank you!

  • Digitally sign MS Office (Word, Excel, etc..) and PDF files on the server

    I need to digitally sign MS Office and PDF files that are stored on a server. I really mean a digital signature that is integrated in the document, according to each specific file formats. This is the process I had in mind : Create a hash of the file's content Send the hash to a custom written java applet in the browser The user encrypts the hash with his/her private key (on an usb token via PKCS#11 for example), thus effectively signing the file. The applet then sends the signature to the server On the server I would then incorporate the signature in the file's (MS Office and PDF files can do that without changing the file's content, probably by just setting some metadata field) What is cool is that you never have to download and upload the complete file to the server again. What is even cooler, the customer doesn't need Office or PDF Writer to sign the files. Parts 2, 3 and 4 are OK for me, my company bought all the JAVA technology I need for that for a previous project I worked on. Problem : I can't seem to find any documentation/examples to do parts 1 and 5 for Office files . Are my google skills failing me this time ? Do you have any pointers to documentation or examples for doing that for MS Office files ? The underlying technology isn't that important to me : I can use Java, .Net, COM, any working technology is OK ! Note : I'm 95% sure I can nail points 1 and 5 for PDF files using iText Thanks ** Edit : If I can't do that with hashes and must download the complete file to the client, it's also possible.
