• Can't change data type on MS Access 2007

  Hi All, I have a huge database (800MB) which consists of a field called 'Date Last Modified' at the moment this field is entered as a text data type but need to change it to a Date/Time field to carry out some queries. I have another exact same database but with only 35MB of data inside it and when I change the data type it works fine, but when I try to change data type on big database it gives me an error: Micorosoft Office Access can't change the data type. There isn't enough disk space or memory After doing some research some sites mentioned of changing the registry file (MaxLocksPerFile) tried that as well, but no luck :-( Can anyone help please?

• mysql naming convention

  I have generally always used some sort of Hungarian Notation for my field names in my tables e.g. #Table Users u_id, u_name, u_email etc... #Posts p_id, p_u_id, p_title, p_content etc... But I have recently been told that this isn't best practice. Is there a more standard way of doing this? I haven't really liked just using the field id as this is then requirs you to select table.field for fields names that appear in mutliple tables when using joins etc. Your thoughts on what is best practice would be appreciated.

• text indexes vs integer indexes in mysql

  Hey, I have always tried to have an integer primary key on a table no matter what. But now I am questioning if this is always necessary. Let's say I have a product table and each product has a globally unique SKU number - that would be a string of say 8-16 characters. Why not make this the PK? Typically I would make this field a unique index but then have an auto incrementing int field as the PK, as I assumed it would be faster, easier to maintain, and would allow me to do things like get the last 5 records added with ease. But in terms of optimisation, assuming I'd only ever be matching the full text field and next doing text matching queries (e.g. like %%) can you guys think of any reasons not to use a text based primary key, most likely of type varchar()? • Silverlight TabControl - Finding and selecting a TabItem from a given Control in the TabItem.

  I am building a LOB application that has a main section and a TabControl with various TabItems in it. On hitting save the idea is that any fields in error are highlighted and the first field in error gets the focus. If the first, and only, field in error is on an Unselected tab the tab should then become selected and the field in error should become highlighted and have focus. But I can not get this to work. What appears to be happening is that the Unselected tab is not in the visual tree so you can't navigate back to the owning TabItem and make it the currently selected TabItem in the TabControl. Has anyone got an idea on how this can be done\achieved?

  Hi, i'have two Listbox. the think is i do the transfert like : click on field in the left listbox, hit "move right" button and it wll display in the right list box.' The other think it's the first Listbox is bind on Dataset and the second on Entity (Linq-to sql).   Hi People, The problem if someone types into the search box a location it goes through to that location page but if they type in a location thats not found or they dont type anything in I need it to redirect back to the homepage (index.asp) and display "whoops we couldnt find that" in the search box (input field) This is the vb Case Else response.redirect "index.asp?whoops=whoops we couldnt find that" End Select Then in the value of the input field I have value="<% =whoops %>" This doesnt work by the way, first is this the best way of doing it because id rather not have the error message in the url. This there away of posting the error as a variable and then calling it into the input field like, <% =whoops %>

  I have a Model which has fields username, data, tags, date, votes. I have form using form_for that creates a new item and puts it into the database. However, as you can guess I want the votes field to equal 0 and the date field to equal the current date when it is placed into the database. How and where would I set/apply these values to the item? I can get it to work with hidden fields in the form but this comes with obvious issues (someone could set the votes field to a massive number.

  I'd like to add a date field to a drupal taxonomy term, alongside the default "title" and "description" Is there some technique/php/module that lets me do this? Is it possible to do with CCK?? I need to be able to display the new field in the same view presenting the content nodes referencing the term. At the moment, I've added a date field to the content nodes with CCK, and it's displayed by the view. But that's not exactly what I'm going for, I just want to update one date per term.

I reckon the field "appId" is meant for this, but this field is empty in the response.

• Telerik RadEditor working issue under VS2008

  I've a SharePoint portal for tracking questions in a list. When I open an list item in IE8 Telerik Editor works fine. But if I open this page inside VS2008 in browser mode this control starts to do unexpected actions. It's the Telerik RadEditor for Sharepoint v. 5.3.2.0. Is it a bug of VS2008 or a bug of Telerik RadEditor? Steps to reproduce: Install Telerik RadEditor in SharePoint portal Create a List with Rich editing field and create a new item Paste or type a text into Rich editing field and save changes Open VS2008 Click on any link in start page to open browser window Open created list item in VS in editing mode Mark a part of text in Rich editing field Marked text disappears. • iPhone keyboard doesn't appear when entering a UITextField

  This has to be some kind of newbie blunder that I just can’t see, and I’d be grateful for hints as to what to check or where to look. I've followed an iPhone tutorial that has a UITextField, making sure I connected the IBOutlet for the text field, and it seems to compile properly (no errors or warnings). But when I run it under the simulator, and click in the field, I don’t get the keyboard, so I can’t enter anything into the field. I’ve tried searching the site for similar questions, and all I’ve found is a few questions where the developer is trying to set up some complex UI with multiple controllers, and one that seemed to be the same issue, but the original poster simply said that he solved it by starting a new project and porting the code over. I’d like to find an actual solution, so I don’t have to try randomly rebuilding projects when this issue comes up again. Thanks!

  There are few things not clear to me about ASP.NET MV2. In database I have table Contacts with several fields, and there is an additional field XmlFields of which type is xml. In that field are stored additional description fields. There are 4 classes: Contact class which corresponds to Contact table and is defined by default when creating LINQ classes ContactListView class which inherits Contact class and has some additional properties ContactXmlView class that contains fields from XmlFields field ContactDetailsView class which merges ContactListView and ContactXmlView into one class and this one is used to display data in view pages ContactListView class has re-defined some properties from Contact class (so that I can add [Required] filter used for validation) - but I get warning message: 'ObjectTest.Models.Contacts.ContactListView.FirstName' hides inherited member 'SA.Model.Contact.FirstName'. Use the new keyword if hiding was intended. ContactDetailsView class is also used in a form when creating new contact and adding it to database. I am not sure if this is correct way, and the warning message confuses me a bit. Any advise about this? Thanks, Ile

• Oracle Apex:Why is this dynamic action not getting triggered/fired ?

  I'm using Application Express 4.0.0.00.25 ( Apex 4.0 EA2 ). I've created a tabular form, with few fields. Each of the field are not direct entry, but rather a LOV picker is attached to these, and on selecting the LOV value, the id gets stored in the field. I have a dynamic action associated to the field, ( event - change in item, condition - always, action - Set value via SQL query ). However, on selecting the value from the LOV, the dynamic action doesn't get triggered. If I select the dynamic action to be fired on page load, then it works but not upon selection of an item from the LOV. Why is this so, is it by design or a bug ?

  I've been using FULL-TEXT for awhile but I cannot seem to get the most relevant results sometimes. If I have an field with something like "An Overview of Pain Medicine 5/12/2006" and a user types "An Overview 5/12/2006" So we create a search like: '"An" AND "Overview" AND "5/12/2006"' - 0 results (bad) '"Overview" AND "5/12/2006"' - 1 result (good) The CONTAINSTABLE portion of my query: FROM ce_Activity A INNER JOIN CONTAINSTABLE(View_Activities,(Searchable), @Search) AS KeyTbl ON A.ActivityID = KeyTbl.[KEY] "Searchable" is a field contains the activity title, and start date(converted to string) in one field so it's all search friendly. Why would this happen?

• How to make Excel strip ALL quotes from CSV text fields

  When importing a CSV file into Excel, it only strips the double-quotes from the FIRST field on the line, but leaves them on all other fields. How can I force Excel to strip the quotes from ALL strings? For instance, I have a CSV file: "text1", "text2", "numeric1", "numeric 2" "abc", "def", 123, 456 "abc", "def", 123, 456 "abc", "def", 123, 456 "abc", "def", 123, 456 I import it into Excel using Data Import External Data Import Data. I specify that the fields are delimited by commas, and that the text delimiter is the double-quote character. Both the data preview and the actual Excel spreadsheet columns only strip the double-quotes from the first text field. All other text fields still have quotes around them. What's really strange is that Access is able to import this data correctly (i.e. strips quotes from every text field. Note that this is NOT a matter of internal commas or quotes or escape characters. This happens in Excel 2003 and Excel 2007.

• Attach data to Richtext using flex, mysql and php(newbie)

  I'm trying to attach data to a richtext field in Flashbuilder. The data is an html string in a mysql database and I'm connecting using php. The php script is just converting to XML. The connection works because I can easily dump the data to a datagrid and I can see the string. when I try to hook the data to a Richtext field I get "object CallResponder" so I am connected, but I'm not sure how to break it down so that it is just an html string for the text field. • javascript/jquery input fields cleanup

  I've created a few input fields, that I am cleaning up as the user types. So, I'm using a keystroke detection event, like .keyup() It's all working very well, but I do notice one thing that's rather annoying for the users. While the script is cleaning the data as they type, their cursor is being sent to the end of the input field. So, if you want to edit the middle of the value, you're cursor immediately goes to the end of the box. Does anyone know of a way to maintain the cursor's current position inside the input field? I'm not holding my breath, but I thought I'd ask.   Hello, I have a jquery ui autocomplete widget in a form and I'd like to preselect its value from a database. My autocomplete works in the following way: the id is a number, tha label and the value are the same and are a concatenation of id + " - " + description. When a value from the autocomplete is selected, a hidden field's value is set to the value of id. Then, the hidden field value is saved to the db when the form is submitted. When the user comes back on the page for editing, I need to reload the value from the db: I set the idden field value again and then I would like to precompile the value of the autocomplete widget with the concatenation of id + " - " + description taken form the db. I think I should trigger the event of selecting a row in the autocomplete, but I don't know how to do. Do you have any ideas?   Using Eclipse + PDT, I know that you can specify the return type of a method or the type of a variable within a method via type hints. How about class fields? Can I declare the type of a field in order to enable autocompletion for that variable? I tried something on the lines of: class MyClass { protected $Field; /* @var $Field MyType */ ... but it doesn't work. • Can Microsoft store three-valued fields in a single bit?

  I'm completely ignorant of SQL/databases, but I was chatting with a friend who does a lot of database work about how some databases use a "boolean" field that can take a value of NULL in addition to true and false. Regarding this, he made a comment along these lines: "To Microsoft's credit, they have never referred to that kind of field as a boolean, they just call it a bit. And it's a true bit - if you have eight or fewer bit fields in a record, it only requires one byte to store them all." Naturally that seems impossible to me - if the field can hold three values you're not going to fit eight of them into a byte. My friend agreed that it seemed odd, but begged ignorance of the low-level internals and said that so far as he knew, such fields can hold three values when viewed from the SQL side, and it does work out to require a byte of storage. I imagine one of us has a wire crossed. Can anyone explain what's really going on here?
