• HP Pavillion dv6 laptop - 15 beeps on startup and a black screen?

  Usual story - girlfriend's step-brother's laptop is broken. I don't know a huge amount about what occurred before it broke, but I do know the following: When you try to turn the laptop on, it beeps 15 times exactly. The screen remains black. The LED on the Caps Lock key flashes continuously. If left on, the laptop never boots - as far as I can see. If left on, on a stable surface with decent ventilation for a relatively short period of time, the laptop (below keyboard, but not where the RAM/HDD are) gets very hot. I've tried doing what most websites appear to recommend for similar problems, which is to disconnect AC and battery then hold the power button down for a minute before reconnecting the AC and trying to turn the laptop on - no difference. EDIT I've also tried re-seating the RAM, to no avail. Any ideas? Thanks in advance,

• HP Presario CQ 61-322ER (VV884EA) Wi-Fi hang up!

  I have my new laptop and don't have Windows XP drivers for it. I found that it contains the Broadcom BCM4310 chip, but when I install any Broadcom driver my laptop hangup on installing bcm5*.sys driver. Only power-off button make any effect. After reboot the device list (Device Manager) contains Broadcom WLAN adapter, but it is marked as disabled, for some hardware errror! Also if I disable device before, and install driver - then - all is OK! But when I try to enable it, Windows hang up anyway (no speaker beep, no mouse input, no keyboard input - nothing) What is the solution?

• Firefox 11.0 Right-Click Dropdown Menu (and Menu Options at Window Top) Flickering - Potential Bug?

  About a week ago my Windows 7 machine starting exhibiting odd Firefox behavior. When I right click on something the drop-down menu flickers and when the mouse is hovering over a field, I can't really see it. This same behavior happens in other ways too, like in the top File, Edit , View, etc menus. I click them and they flicker, when I hover over them, and then they get obscured when I hover over the one I want. I did some research and didn't really find anything. Some people found similar behavior in applications THEY were building. But mine is a global problem. Happens on all sites, as far as I can tell. This is why I suspect it's my Firefox installation. I thought about reinstalling, but if there was another option, I'd like to explore that too. The behavior is not really capture-able, so I don't have anything except words to describe it. • Round-twice error in .NET's Double.ToString method

  Mathematically, consider for this question the rational number 8725724278030350 / 2**48 where ** in the denominator denotes exponentiation, i.e. the denominator is 2 to the 48th power. (The fraction is not in lowest terms, reducible by 2.) This number is exactly representable as a System.Double. Its decimal expansion is 31.0000000000000'49'73799150320701301097869873046875 (exact) where the apostrophes do not represent missing digits but merely mark the boudaries where rounding to 15 resp. 17 digits is to be performed. Note the following: If this number is rounded to 15 digits, the result will be 31 (followed by thirteen 0s) because the next digits (49...) begin with a 4 (meaning round down). But if the number is first rounded to 17 digits and then rounded to 15 digits, the result could be 31.0000000000001. This is because the first rounding rounds up by increasing the 49... digits to 50 (terminates) (next digits were 73...), and the second rounding might then round up again (when the midpoint-rounding rule says "round away from zero"). (There are many more numbers with the above characteristics, of course.) Now, it turns out that .NET's standard string representation of this number is "31.0000000000001". The question: Isn't this a bug? By standard string representation we mean the String produced by the parameterles Double.ToString() instance method which is of course identical to what is produced by ToString("G"). An interesting thing to note is that if you cast the above number to System.Decimal then you get a decimal that is 31 exactly! See this Stack Overflow question for a discussion of the surprising fact that casting a Double to Decimal involves first rounding to 15 digits. This means that casting to Decimal makes a correct round to 15 digits, whereas calling ToSting() makes an incorrect one. To sum up, we have a floating-point number that, when output to the user, is 31.0000000000001, but when converted to Decimal (where 29 digits are available), becomes 31 exactly. This is unfortunate. • Where should I start with debugging my exchange server?

  I'm (foolishly?) attempting to install Exchange on top of Windows Server 2008 (64-bit) over Virtual Box running on Mac OSX Lion. Everything went smoothly until I got to the "Readiness Checks" tab. Readiness failed spectacularly on Hub Transport Role and Mailbox Role prereqs. Before I go too far down the rabbit hole in attempting to remedy this, I was hoping I could get some input on where to start in all of this. I already set up the following Active Directory roles, but it didn't seem to help: Active Directory Domain Services Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services I also enabled an Application Server role. Those three are the only roles I've set up-- I cannot locate within Server Manager the Organization Manager role or any of the other roles referenced in the list of borkedness below. Is this a typical experience in Exchange installation? Is there a tutorial created by somebody outside of Microsoft? • HP dv6910 laptop no longer recognizes wireless adapter, dvd drive, and one usb port. What can I do about this?

  In the last 3 weeks, my not even 3 year old HP laptop (vista) just seems to be failing. First, one of the usb ports stopped working. Next, the dvd drive all of a sudden was not recognized as even existing, so it is now useless. And as of today, I no longer seem to have a wireless adapter on my laptop. It doesn't show up in device manager, same as the dvd drive. I can connect to the internet by ethernet cable, but not wirelessly. It worked fine last night; now it doesn't even exist! I have tried a 'hard reset' I read about on HP's forum- no help. I am not sure what else to try. I read about the USB wifi dongle in another response, but I already have maxed our my usb ports even though I have bought a USB hub since the one port failed. Plus, I'd like my laptop to just work like it's supposed to instead of being jerry rigged with usb hubs, external dvd drives, and wifi dongles etc. Any ideas?

• Cannot Start Nginx Compiled from Source

  I am trying to compile Nginx from source based on the original compiled Nginx server running on my DigitalOcean server ( Ubuntu-14.04 64x ) but with a few extra modules. I can get everything installed smoothly but I can not get it to start. I am sure the ini is correct because I copied the original source off the current running Nginx server [ Even though I see that Nginx now adds the ini when compiling fron source ]. Below is the [ lengthy process ] that I am performing - add sorry but I wanted to be thorough for those who are in need of the info ]. Because I am a newB to Nginx, I am sure I am missing something or just have it all wrong. If you may look over what I have done and see if you spot anything I need/need to change, I will greatly appreciate it. Thnx! And now to start the server: service nginx start And this is where s#!+ hits the fan - Nada. I check to see if Nginx is running with service --status-all and its not. Also with nginx -V and its not installed??? I reboot the system too and still nothing. So I am not sure what is wrong here. The ini was copied over from the old server along with all the other config files after deleting the old files. When I opened the new compiled files, the nginx default data was present so I replaced them with my old original data prior to starting the new server for the first time. Also to be safe, I rm /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default and symlinked with ln -s /etc/nginx/sites-available/default /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default with no errors and I verified that the data was in the sites-enabled/default file. I don't think the server really/fully installed because of the nginx -V result: The program 'nginx' can be found in the following packages: * nginx-core * nginx-extras * nginx-full * nginx-light * nginx-naxsi Try: apt-get install <selected package> Do/should I apt-get install nginx-1.7.4 ?? Or what package do I use being that its a custom package and make install earlier did nothing?? I can connect to the server in SSMS as a separate server, and execute a similar query against its Deposits table. The nn.nn is my own replacement to avoid broadcasting our server addresses. SOLVED (STUPID ME): Somebody had added an extra bit to my query that was scrolled off-screen and was querying the 17.nn.nn.11 server.

  Running Ubuntu 12.04 and trying to configure postfix to relay send and receive through GMAIL. Am running into connection issues particularly with TLS. Have tried a bunch of troubleshooting solutions and have changed my main.cf to address TLS but still receive the below errors. • Email with extra '.com' behind sender email address

  Currently I had a situation where I sent an email to [email protected], but when I receive mail from [email protected], it showed as [email protected], with extra '.com' behind the email address, this just happen within this week. Before this, I didn't change any setting, currently I am using Outlook 2010. When I checked the email in webmail, it also showed it as [email protected]. It seem that it has nothing to do with Outlook. However, I also tried on Thunderbird 16.0.1, but still the problem is the same. Has anyone experienced this before? Is the problem caused by the sender or receiver? • Problems during an update of cPanel / WHM

  I ordered a Master WHM account with the couple CentOS / cPanel. whm-cpanel.eu.pn The installation is a fresh update of the basic services was necessary (had: WHM 11.15.0 cPanel 11.17.0 WHM X v3.1.0, Apache 1.3.37, PHP 4.4.7, MySQL 4.1.22). 1 / I started to update cPanel / WHM via the command: / scripts / upcp. Everything went well until the middle of installing the server stopped responding (or ping, or ssh). The installation appears to have continued alone to the end and after some time everything is back to normal (I do not know if there was a reboot) and my interface was updated (cPanel 11.24.4-R36167 - WHM 11.24.2 - X 3.9). 2 / Then I updated via the MySQL interface tweak this in WHM then the command: / scripts / mysqlup. Here everything went fine, no problem. 3 / Finally, I wanted to upgrade Apache 2.2 / PHP 5 and I used this command: / scripts / easyapache. After selecting all the packages and modules installation is started but the same as for point 1: the server did not answer more and this time the installation did not go through. Apache 2.2 is well spent (after the second try) but PHP has remained at 4. I tried several times the same operation without success. I do not think this is a memory problem, a free-m shortly before losing communications gave nothing alarming. By cons CPU time seemed to rise up. I reinstalled the machine again the trick, same problem! Whether via the WHM interface or by Shell, the installation stops short, for 15 minutes the machine is not responding and then everything returns to normal, but no update is done in PHP. Is there a known bug in this version of cPanel / WHM? Someone he met the same problem? If I compile Apache / PHP manually, without using the script easyapache is what I might encounter problems with cPanel later? Thank you!

  users | Mikrotik -- Internet | ASA | ServerA and ServerB I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem with a new Cisco ASA 5505. The network design is as above - the Microtik is the existing router, ServerA and ServerB used to plug directly into it. ServerA has IP 10.30.1.10, ServerB has IP 10.30.1.11 The ASA is configured with no NAT, a "allow anything" firewall, and uses the microtik as its default gateway. In effect, it is currently a simple IP router; the firewall and VPN stuff will all come later once the basics are working. Th problem is access to ServerA and ServerB is erratic - sometimes it will work, sometimes it will fail. It can fail for either one of the servers only, or both. When it is working: The Mikrotik logs show ping packets being sent out over the proper interface The ASA logs show the incoming connections. When it is failing: The Mikrotik logs show ping packets being sent out over the proper interface The ASA logs show nothing reaching the ASA. This can fail for one server only (e.g.: the Mikrotik is putting out packets to 10.30.1.10 and 10.30.1.11, but the ASA is only seeing packets arrive destined for 10.30.1.11) It can fail for one source only (e.g.: ClientA on the users network can ping 10.30.1.11, but clientB cannot) The problem can also be seen from the mikrotik router itself; sometimes it can ping ServerA and ServerB, sometimes it can only ping one of them What could be causing this? I enabled the Access-Control-Allow-Origin: * header so fonts will work in Firefox. However, Firefox throws a CORS error for fonts loaded from this CloudFront/Nginx distribution. I created another CloudFront distribution, this time with an Apache server as the origin, and set Access-Control-Allow-Origin: * also. Firefox displays fonts from this origin without issue.   I work at a public library and I'm trying to configure OCLC's EzProxy software. I've run into a problem and I think it's related to our network config. I'm punching above my weight here a little so I need some help. I think I'm trying to configure a 1:1 NAT, but not sure how or if our hardware supports it. The EzProxy machine is on an internet line which supports multiple external IPs. Our router is a Billion BiGuard30. There's another server on this line, let's say its IP is x.x.x.9. The EzProxy machine is x.x.x.11 I've set up port forwarding from x.x.x.11 on the http ports to the EzProxy machine. Trying to browse to x.x.x.11 from an external PC works fine - we get to the EzProxy page we are serving. However, if we go to something like WhatIsMyIP from the EzProxy machine, it says that its IP is x.x.x.9. This causes problems with our user authentication software. How do we make the rest of the internet see that the machine is x.x.x.11? There doesnt seem to be any "outbound port forwarding" on the Billion router, nor is there any "1:1 NAT" options in its config webpage. The EzProxy machine is running Ubuntu 12.04, if that helps.

Please specify where exactly, and whether the order of commands is or is not important. Why is the block below "title CentOS ..." indented?   Hi, We installed a clustered SQL 2005 installation on windows 2008 and reattached our san drives from another machine and restored to do a migration to new hardware. There have been a few minor issues, but this one has me stuck. Trying to populate Full-Text indexes is not working. • NetApp NDMP backup with BE 2010 R2 works, restore fails

  Hi, I'm having some issues with a new Backup Exec 2010 R2 installation. I configured a NetApp FAS2020 as an NDMP device and want to backup files from the NAS to a tape drive connected to my backup server. I set up ndmpd according to this document (http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH48957) and created a separate backup user (http://filers.blogspot.com/2006/09/setting-veritas-netbackup-with-non.html). Backup works perfectly, but restoring any file gives me an authentication failed error. The NDMP device has a "global" ndmp user configured in the device tab (tried this with the newly created ndmpd backup user and the netapp root) and I can also configure separate resource credentials in the BE restore job. I have tried setting the same accounts for the "global" ndmp device and the restore credentials and have also tried setting different accounts for them. NDMP debug level is at 5 and this is what shows up in /etc/messages. The session is closed immediately after it has been granted. 16:12:07 PST [Java_Thread:info]: ndmpdserver: ndmpd.access allowed for version = 4, sessionId = 51, from src ip = 192.168.11.17, dst ip = FAS2020-1/192.168.11.75, src port = 50857, dst port = 10000 16:12:07 PST [Java_Thread:info]: Ndmpd51: ndmpd session closed successfully for version = 4, sessionId = 51, from src ip = 192.168.11.17, dst ip = FAS2020-1/192.168.11.75, src port = 50857, dst port = 10000 Running wireshark on the backup server doesn't produce much. It shows a SYN - SYN/ACK - NDMP CONNECT_CLOSE Request from the backup server. The Resource Credentials for the restore job behave very oddly. If I enter NDMP credentials and do "Test All" it fails. If I use my regular domain backup account, it is successful. There are no failed or succeeded logons in the NetApp ndmp log and tracing this check shows that it doesn't even connect to the NAS. This makes me think that this is more likely flaky BE behaviour rather than misconfiguration of the NAS. • Mysql can not resolve hostnames when checking privileges

  I'm going crazy to solve this. I have a mysql installation (on machine db.example.org) which doesn't resolve a given hostname. I gave privileges using hostnames i.e. GRANT USAGE ON *.* TO 'user'@'host1.example.org' IDENTIFIED BY PASSWORD 'secret' GRANT SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, CREATE, INDEX ON `my_database`.* TO 'user'@'host1.example.org' However when I try to connect using mysql -u user -p -h db.example.org I obtain ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'user'@'192.168.11.244' (using password: YES) I already checked for correct name resolution in the dns system: $ dig -x 192.168.11.244 ;; ANSWER SECTION: 244.11.168.192.in-addr.arpa. 68900 IN PTR host1.example.org. I've also checked for skip-name-resolve option in mysql variables in fact if I can access from another machine on the same subnet using hostname privileges. The only difference is that host1.example.org and db.example.org point the same ip on the same machine i.e. both db.example.org and host1.example.org have ip 192.168.11.244. In this way all the applications using that database can use the name db.example.org and we can move the data on other hosts (if needed) just by changing the dns record, leaving the application code unchanged. What should I do to solve this or at least to understand what's happening?
