• Web-based document merge solution?

  We are looking for a web-based document merge solution. Our application is a web-based project management tool built using Xataface - PHP on Windows IIS + mySQL. We have a function that allows the user to generate a status report in Microsoft Word format based on data in the tool. Currently this function is implemented using LiveDocX. We have a status report template, and LiveDocX performs the merge into the template using data from our project management tool. The main drawback is LiveDocx is web-service based. We are looking to replace LiveDocX in order to reduce our dependence on the up-time of a third-party web-service that we cannot control. Does anyone have any suggestions on a web based document merge solution that I can install on my IIS or PHP based server?

  I have a website (not a web application- in visual studio you get two options-create a website/project) running on IIS 6.0. Now I want to develop few features in MVC architecture. So I created one MVC application in visual studio and everything is working fine on localhost as a separate application. Now I want to host this MVC app also inside the website I have already deployed. I created a virtual directory(MVCDir) inside the default website in IIS 6.0. • Remove all references to a DLL across all application domains

  I have a web application that dynamically loads assemblies based on database configuration entries to perform certain actions (dynamic plugin style architecture). The calls to the objects are in a Factory Pattern implementation, and the object is cached (in a static dictionary< within the Factory) as the calls can be made many thousands of times in a minute. The calls to this factory are made from both the main web application and a number of webservices, some in different assemblies/projects. When I need to update one of these DLLs, I have to recycle IIS to get the DLL released. As this has an impact on another application on the server, I wanted to know if there was a way I could release the DLL without restarting IIS?

  I need to debug a WCF service but it needs to have an HTTP Context. Currently I have a solution with a WCF service web site, when I click on debug it starts up and then fires up an html page that contains no test form. While the project is running I tried starting the wcftestclient manually, then provided the address of my service, it finds the service but when I invoke it, it bypasses the IIS layer (or development server), so the httpContext is null... What is the correct way to debug a WCF service through an IIS context?

• Authenticating mssql users through different logins

  I'm developing a new node.js based frontend for an old intranet site using mssql server and Classic ASP. Both the new and the old site will coexist during the transition phase and both must access the same mssql server using the same database principals. The old ASP/IIS site uses integrated windows login. The new node-based frontend has to use sql server based logins/principals (edit: while the IIS/ASP site must keep using Windows server principals) and all existing database users/principals must keep working wherever they login from. From reading around, it appears that a database principal can not be assigned to multiple server principals, therefore it seems unlikely there's a simple solution to this. I'd like to know if anybody has had to deal with a similar situation before and how they've gone about it.

• URL Rewriting for user accounts

  We currently have domain.com/username redirected to domain.com/setsession.asp?u=username which then redirects to the app at domain.com/theapp. This means users always see domain.com/theapp, so browsing to a page shows domain.com/theapp/somepage.asp Looking to move this to subdomains ie username.domain.com (we'll get the host name and work out the user from that). How can this be set up? Should we move the app itself to say theapp.domain.com and then rewrite username.domain.com to theapp.domain.com and everything works? If thats right, how can we do the URL rewrite (mod_rewrite via ISAPI Rewrite for IIS or URL Rewriting for IIS) so that we can still access webmail.domain.com, etc?

• Starting self hosted WCF services on demand

  Is it possible to start self hosted WCF services on demand? I see two options to accomplish this: Insert a listener in the self hosted WCF's web server and spin up a service host when a request for a specific service comes in, before WCF starts looking for the existence of that endpoint; or Integrate a web service in process, start a service host for a request if it isn't running yet and redirect the request to that service host (like I suspect IIS does). I cannot use IIS or WAS because the web services need to run in process with the UI business logic. Which is feasible and how can I accomplish this? EDIT: I cannot just start the service hosts because there are hundreds, most (about 95%) of which are (almost) never used but need to be available. This is for exposing a business logic layer of 900 entities.

  I have an ASP.NET application which runs under the Classic .NET AppPool in IIS. I have a report to render from my website. The problem is SQL Server keeps telling me that it failed to create a connection to the datasource, because login failed for user IUSR. After adding that user directly to the databse I could get the report to work, but I'm concerned about security. By doing that, am I opening my specified databases to all websites hosted on IIS? Or is that account identity-specific?

  I need to upload large files of atleast 1GB file size. I am using ASP.Net, C# and IIS 5.1 as my development platform. I am using HIF.PostedFile.InputStream.Read(fileBytes,0,HIF.PostedFile.ContentLength) before using File.WriteAllBytes(filePath, fileByteArray)(doesnt go here but gives System.OutOfMemoryException' exception) Currently i have set the httpRuntime to executionTimeout="999999" maxRequestLength="2097151"(thats 2GB!) useFullyQualifiedRedirectUrl="true" minFreeThreads="8" minLocalRequestFreeThreads="4" appRequestQueueLimit="5000" enableVersionHeader="true" requestLengthDiskThreshold="8192" Also i have set maxAllowedContentLength="2097151" (guess its only for IIS7) I have changed IIS connection timeout to 999,999 secs too. I am unable to upload files of even 4578KB(Ajaz-Uploader.zip)

• Windows Workflow runs very slowlyh on my DEV machine

This runs quickly on any machine running Windows Server 2008 R2, but very slowly on our dev machines, running Windows XP SP3. Yesterday, the workflows were as fast on my dev machine as they are on the server for the whole day. Today, they are back to running slowly again (I rebooted overnight) Has anyone else experienced this problem with workflows running slowly on IIS in XP? What did you do to fix it?

  Hello, I am trying to set up security within a web.config file for a WCF service hosted in IIS but keep getting the error message: Security settings for this service require 'Anonymous' Authentication but it is not enabled for the IIS application that hosts this service. I have read Nicholas Allen’s blog (link text) and it appears that this is the route that I need to take. However, I am using “binaryMessageEncoding” in a customBinding for my Silverlight service, and as such, I’m not sure how to apply this type of security to such an element. This is how my custom binding looks in config at present: <customBinding> <binding name="silverlightBinaryBinding"> <binaryMessageEncoding /> <httpTransport /> </binding> </customBinding> Has anyone had any experience getting Windows authentication to work with a custom binding using binaryMessageEncoding?   I have an html page, which is a dynamically created asp/aspx page on http://host2.mydomain.com. I have no control over the html page. I cannot modify it in any such way. I cannot modify this page; so, setting document.domain is out of the question, unfortunately. I want to retrieve and display this page on http://host1.mydomain.com/page1.jsp using Ajax. FYI: host1 is being served by IIS 7 and Apache Tomcat (for JSP pages). And host2 is using IIS 7 and ASP. How can I retrieve this page using a Ajax POST request? Thank you.

  I am looking to accomplish 2 way communication over http between a .Net service (WCF SOAP or REST, both options are open) hosted on IIS 7 and Windows Forms Client running on Windows 7. WebSockets are not supported with IIS 7 and all other Comet techniques allow only the web server to push data to client and not the other way around. The client will be very chatty, and there are thousands of clients, so I want to avoid creating a new HTTP request for each message to the server, though that is the last option. Is there any way to do this ?

• What is better for non-active directory stuff, WMI or ADSI?

  I've used both technologies in C# for some time now and thus far have not been able to figure out which is better (in terms of ease of use). It seems to me that because there is support for Windows 95 in WMI, it's an older technology than ADSI (which I assume was invented along with Active Directory). However, despite the hint that ADSI is "for AD", I've used it for several non-AD things, such as managing IIS and local users. So, for those sort of tasks (managing IIS and local users), which is more practical? WMI or ADSI? Consider also that I'm using C# to implement these technologies, not vbscript. However, this may equally apply to vbscript.

I have a PageController witch go see if the page exist in the DB and if it don't I return to a 404 view with the status code 404 (Response.StatusCode = 404;) How can I reproduce the same behavior live? Do I need to setup something on IIS? I'm on winserver 2008 using c# and MVC 1.0. Thanks for the help!

I copied the project folder, and then opened the new copied solution in VS2005, and let it do it's conversion thing. But now nothing works. I've nnotice there have been some changes to IIS profile. Web-Role can log only inside OnStart-method of WebRole.cs in other cases: logged nothing I understand that Full-IIS means different domains. so, I must call someway WaIIS.exe from w3wp.exe or ...?

• Converting VS 2008 Project to VS 2010 - now .aspx won't load

  I converted all my other projects fine from VS 2008 to 2010 and they run great. There is one project however for some reason after converting, when I try to run one of the .aspx pages in it, I get nothing...no error, just that it cannot display the page. Nothing has changed. The path is still the same, and the IIS website is still the same. I even recreated the site in IIS using the VS option to create it in the web project properties. This is a testing project..only has like one .aspx in it. Not sure why I get nothing after converting this. I did not convert it to .NET 4.0, it's still in v3.5 in VS 2010.

(We are deploying a new site and google index will still point to old urls, and we need to map those urls to new urls) a) Is there a way to do this through IIS (but without ISAPI_Rewrite) and how? b) Is there a way to do this through the application code and how? • A fast way to get Reporting Services local site working?

  Hello I was here trying to figure out why my Reports manager is empty, there's no tabs at all. I installed SQL Server 2008 complete, but didn't not configure Reporting Services. When installing SQL Server 2008, this Windows 7 version didn't have yet IIS installed, I installed it later. I don't see where is this localhost/Reports physically on my Hard Drive, where is the physic folder? I don't see on IIS where is Report folder, would it exist? The site settings people talk about, I can't find it. The "Reporting Services" service is running on automatic at SQL Server Configuration Manager. How can I get Reporting Services this working without struggling? (I can't see why is necessary to customize all these user permissions)

• Question about SSL Certificate.

  Hi experts, I am trying to make a SSL connection to a web site. Each time I enter the https:// address and press enter, the IE8 prompts me to select the Certificate (Client Certificate) to send to the server. I got 2 certificates to choose from. And they are stored in the IE8 - Internet Options - Content - Certificates - Personal. Since my server and client are the same machine, I want to use a single certificate for both server and client. And this certificate is a IIS generated self signed certificate. I do the following steps: 1- Generate a self-signed-cert in IIS; 2- Bind my site to https and choose the above self-signed-cert 3- Import the self-signed-cert at the IE8 - Internet Options - Content - Certificates - Personal. Then I use the https link to access my page, it is still prompts me to choose a certificate. But I cannot see my newly imported self-signed-cert. Why?
