    I create a control in CreateChildControls(): HtmlGenericControl mycontrol= HtmlGenericControl("li"); mycontrol.ID = "controlID"; controlId = mycontrol.ID; protected virtual IEnumerable<ScriptDescriptor> GetScriptDescriptors() { ScriptControlDescriptor descriptor = new ScriptControlDescriptor("Project.TEditor", this.ClientID); descriptor.AddProperty("controlId", controlId); return new ScriptDescriptor[] { descriptor }; } Then in javascript i try to find this control using the ID property: alert($get(this.get_controlId())); I get null because the actual control ID has a prefix that was added by asp. How to solve that?

  • Will html5 and Javascript replace native applications?

    I recently attended a conference on future of the web and web development and it was a lot of focus on HTML5 and how it will impact the way we look at the web and how we will use it. The majority of the speakers meant that it will replace native application on your desktop as well as in your mobile phone. I agree that you will be able to make a lot of great stuff with the new technology take bespin for example and the <video> and <canvas> tag will be amazing, but will it completely remove the need for native applications? Is there something you cannot do with Javascript and HTML5?

    I'm having some trouble understanding the IF clause at the end of this function from Pro JavaScript Design Patterns: function extend(subClass, superClass) { var F = function() {}; F.prototype = superClass.prototype; subClass.prototype = new F(); subClass.prototype.constructor = subClass; subClass.superclass = superClass.prototype; if(superClass.prototype.constructor == Object.prototype.constructor) { superClass.prototype.constructor = superClass; } } The book explains that these lines ensure that the superclass's constructor attribute is correctly set, even if the superclass is the Object class itself. Yet, if I omit those three lines and do the following: function SubClass() {}; extend(SubClass, Object); alert(Object.prototype.constructor == Object); The alert says 'true', which means the superclass's constructor is set correctly even without those last three lines. Under what conditions, then, does this IF statement do something useful? Thanks.

  • javascript not working on localhost

    Ok so I'm lost here, frustrated and pulling my hair and out. Plus probably about to be fired or take a pay cut. I moved Files from a development server to my local machine. The files are consistent (used diff tool), all the dependencies are there. It works for the most part. The problem is that the some of the javascript (not all) is just not working. We're using jquery and a lot of plugins for it. I've checked with the web developer plugin in firefox and all the js files are loading. I cleared the cache in both firefox and chrome multiple times to no avail. The development server is a windows server running wamp. My local machine is running ubuntu. Somebody tell me what I missed.

Through javascript, I get four variables (A, B, C, and D) that I would like to sort, and still keep track of the variable name (since it's encoded with meaning information). Sample Data: A = 2; B = 1; C = 4; D = 3; What I need to do now is sort them in value order (4,3,2,1) such that I can actually know the variable name ordering (C,D,A,B).

Doesn't that the value of 'x' in a() should be 'gone' as soon as test = new a() is complete? The stack contains x should also be gone as well, right? Or, does javascript always keep all the stacks ever created in case they will be referenced in future? But that wouldn't be nice, would it...?

The jAlert details are given here. Now, I made customized alerts (with title and colors in alert). It is wroking properly on some websites. But on some websites the default CSS is dominating my jQuery CSS, which leads to unexpected alerts (ugly alerts).

    I have seen some answers to this question in previous posts, but no one has given a real working example, just psuedo code. Has anyone ever done this before? Basically, what i have is a variable in javascript (jquery), and i want to use this variable to drive a query (for an overlay window) i am going to run in php. From what i have read you can do this using an ajax call to the same page so it doesnt refresh itself, but i must be missing something because i can't get it working... Any examples out there? I.e.: The form itself doesn't have a name so I am targetting the form within a specific form ID. $("#content form").submit(function() { alert("lorem ipsum dolor?"); }); What would be the syntax for performing this in javascript alone without using jquery?   • Regular Expression for accurate word-count using JavaScript

    I'm trying to put together a regular expression for a JavaScript command that accurately counts the number of words in a textarea. One solution I had found is as follows: document.querySelector("#wordcount").innerHTML = document.querySelector("#editor").value.split(/\b\w+\b/).length -1; But this doesn't count any non-Latin characters (eg: Cyrillic, Hangul, etc); it skips over them completely. Another one I put together: document.querySelector("#wordcount").innerHTML = document.querySelector("#editor").value.split(/\s+/g).length -1; But this doesn't count accurately unless the document ends in a space character. If a space character is appended to the value being counted it counts 1 word even with an empty document. Furthermore, if the document begins with a space character an extraneous word is counted. Is there a regular expression I can put into this command that counts the words accurately, regardless of input method?

    I am trying to script a web page using GreaseMonkey. (I am using Firebug for help in development.) The page has a small amount of JavaScript code, but that code pulls in other JS files from the site. Are the entire collection of JS files stored somewhere on the client side (i.e. on the filesystem somewhere) so that I can view them? Or better yet, is there a way I can view them in Firebug? I am a little overwhelmed by Firebug but will be able to follow instructions. Many thanks. (My first ever question on SO!) -Todd

    Hi All, I've got a javascript application that sends a large amount of numerical data down the wire. This data is then stored in a database. I am having size issues (too much bandwidth, database getting too big). I am now ready to sacrifice some performance for compression. I was thinking of implementing a base 62 number.toString(62) and parseInt(compressed, 62). This would certainly reduce the size of the data but before I go ahead and do this I thought I would put it to the folks here as I know there must be some outside the box solution I have not considered. The basic specs are: - Compress large number arrays into strings for JSONP transfer (So I think UTF is out) - Be relatively fast, look I'm not expecting same performance as I have now but I also don't want gzip compression either.     Hello, I am working with php and mysql. I have one dropdown box where I am asking datatype of mysql field. Now, I want to put javascript validation for it. I am confused with the enum datatype. I am using regular expression /^[']{1}[^',^\\]+[']{1}$/. This is for one single value of enum values. It is working fine but issue is when I put single quote or backslash with backslash, it is valid but this regular expression shows it as invalid. For eg, 'a'b' is invalid but 'a\'b' is valid.

    I just wanted to poll the community and see which plugins people are currently using to get all of these different technologies running in Eclipse. I saw this thread which mentioned Spket & WPT: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1575617/eclipse-which-plugins-for-html-javascript But I noticed that Spket doesn't seem to have been updated since October of 2009 so I'm wondering if it's still a good tool to use. I'm not sure what would be best for PHP since it seems like some of the tools are disjointed at the moment. For Actionscript I know I can just install the latest Flash Builder plugin and be done. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
