• Trick to getting initWithNibFile to be invoked?

  I've implemented a View Controller, and I'm trying to do some very basic initialization in initWithNibFile...which I understand to be the designated initializer for View Controller objects. I've tried to put breakpoints on the code, and have put very simple NSLog statements into it as well. Regardless...I'm not seeing it be executed (and the object i'm attempting to alloc/init inside the function is also not being allocated - so I'm about 99% sure I'm not hitting the code. Is there something I need to do elsewhere to cause this method to be invoked? I'm getting a clean build, no warnings or errors. And the app successfully loads up the View, and I can invoke a ButtonClick method I've coded and connected to this same View Controller. Any suggestions would be appreciated. TC

• More 'Edit' navigation item

  I am using a UITabBarController as well as a UINavigationController on my app. In my UITabBarController I am using more than 5 items so I automatically get the 'More' item. I've managed to add a saving procedure so the order of those items will be kept in case somebody changes the order etc. With 'More' active I get the More navigation controller with the 'Edit' item positioned under my UINavigationController. Both navigation controller are visible. When I click on 'Edit though the More navigation controller disappears and seem to be hiding under my UINavigationController and therefore I can't see/use the 'Done' function to save my new order What did I miss? • Loading UINavigationController subclass from a Nib

  My situation is as follows: My class SettingsViewController is a subclass of UINavigationController. That class contains the logic of its rootViewController. For example, it acts as the delegate and data source for two table views in that root view controller. I have no problem setting this up programmatically. In the initializer of SettingsViewController, I can create an additional UIViewController to serve as the root view controller, position the table views in its view, and set their delegates and data sources to self. But I want to load that root view via a Nib. The problem is, I do not know how to connect that Nib with my SettingsViewController, how to set the delegates and data sources. The SettingsViewController is not accessible from within the Nib. 'File Owner' represents the root view controller, not the SettingsViewController. How do I access my UINavigationController subclass from within my root view controllers Nib? Thanks in advance.

  UPDATE: My model going into the save method is PartialViewModel, which in the save method, is pushed into the index's ContactViewModel and sent back. This wasn't clear. I am playing around with MVC3, and have a contact controller with a SaveDetails action. The index cshtml has a partial with a form whose action is pointing to this controller. When I submit the form not having completed it fully, thereby firing the validation, the url now contains the SaveDetails action name (http://localhost:7401/Contact/SaveDetails). The form code is: @using (Html.BeginForm("SaveDetails", "Contact")) { ... } The controller action looks like this: public ActionResult SaveDetails(Models.PartialsViewModel pvm) { return View("Index", new ContactViewModel{ PartialsViewModel = pvm } ); } What am I doing wrong?

• I can't get areas working in VS2010

  I just upgraded from VS2010 RC to RTM. Now my areas aren't working. I have a Profile area with a Home controller and an Action method Index(). If I try: http://localhost:4951/profile I get a 404 error saying that the resource can't be found. If I try http://localhost:4951/profile/home I get the same error. However, if I try http://localhost:4951/profile/home/index then the view is returned. • Avoiding Nested Blocks

  If there is a view controller that wants to execute a number of block based tasks one at a time, how can the control be given back to the view controller after a completion block has executed. Lets say ViewControllerOne wants to execute a number of tasks, each relying on the result of the previous one, how would this control be given back to the viewcontroller after each completion block has been executed? I started thinking about this and I was heading towards a deeply nested block pattern that will surely only cause confusion to whoever else reads or tests it. A task executes and the completion block returns the result or error which is needed by the next task, which has its own completion task, that the next task relies on and so forth. How can the control be managed in one place, the viewcontroller? Would the completion block just call the next function that handles the next task, using a pointer to the view controller?

• How to test flash.message in a Grails webflow?

  I'm using webflows in Grails and I'm currently writing tests for it. Now, inside I've got something that throws an error so I set a message to the flash scope before redirecting: ... if (some_condition) { flash.message = "my error message" return error() } ... Now, I know that when I'm going to display this in the GSP page, I access the flash message as <g:if test="${message}">... instead of the usual <g:if test="${flash.message}">... So anyway, I'm writing my test and I'm wondering how to test the content of the message? Usually, in normal actions in the controllers, I follow what's written in here . However, since this is a webflow, I can't seem to find the message even if I check controller.flash.message / controller.params.message / controller.message . I've also tried looking at the flow scope... Any ideas on how to see the message then? Thanks a bunch!

• JSF Rendering Issue (Page getting cached)

  I am facing a strange issue with JSF. I have developed one controller and bind it to request scope. I need to access one jsf page like http://localhost:8080/selectRule.jsf?type=A and on the same IE session I want to issue another request like http://localhost:8080/selectRule.jsf?type=B as we can see, only the type is changing here. This is why I have a ruleController bound to request scope, so that every request, creates the controller and pulls out the data depending upon type. I have a private HtmlSelectOneMenu choices item in the page. What I see is, somehow only once in the session the getChoices() is getting called. This is what I see For each url, one new ruleController object is getting created. Only first time getChoices() are called. In the subsequent time, if I change the URL in the web browser, the getChoices() method are not getting called though a new controller is getting created. Note: I am using JSF 1.1

P.S: I'm using DDD to learn I have an ACtion in a Controller and it'll save an entity (from my model) by a repository (for a database). My doubts is, How can I get the informations from the View and save it by a repository in my Controller ? Is it correct to get an entity of my Model in Save method of controller, like this: public ActionResult Save(Product product) { // validate object // save data in repository return View("Success"); } Or Need I get an DTO (with a structure similar to my entity) and create an object passing property by property to an entity ? • How do we name test methods where we are checking for more than one condition?

  I follow the technique specified in Roy Osherove's The Art Of Unit Testing book while naming test methods - MethodName_Scenario_Expectation. It suits perfectly well for my 'unit' tests. But,for tests that I write in 'controller' or 'coordinator' class, there isn't necessarily a method which I want to test. For these tests, I generate multiple conditions which make up one scenario and then I verify the expectation. For example, I may set some properties on different instances, generate an event and then verify that my expectation from controller/coordinator is being met. Now, my controller handles events using a private event handler. Here my scenario is that, I set some properties, say 3 condition1,condition2 and condition3 Also, my scenario includes an event is raised I don't have a method name as my event handler is private. How do I name such a test method?

• How to I reference a pointer from a different class

  Hey team of awesomeness!, (Iphone Objective-C question) First off, I despise singletons with a passion. Though I should probably be trying to use one, I just dont want to. I want to create a data class (that is instantiated only once by a view controller on loading), and then using a different class, message the crap out of that data instance until it is brimming with so much data, it smiles. So, how do i do that? I made a pointer to the instance of the data class when I instantiated it. I'm now over in a separate view controller, action occurs, and I want to update the initial data object. I think I need to reference that object by way of pointer, but I have no idea how to do that. yes I've set properties and getters and setters, which seem to work, but only in the initial view controller class. • in jqgrid, how can i have the editform disappear after submit

  right now, when i click submit it sends a message to the server and updates the databased and refreshes the screen but it keeps the edit form popup on the screen. • What is the benefit to wrapping every sql/stored proc invocation in a transaction?

  The following code executes one stored procedure. The stored procedure has only one command in it. Is there any benefit to wrapping everything in a transaction, even it only has one SQL statement in it (or one stored proc that has only one sql statement)? In the sample code below, if the delete fails, it fails. There is nothing else to be rolled back (it seems). When i have about 50 or more records in one of my table view which is below in the stack of view controllers and if i tap the back button quickly the navigation bar on the tap changes but the view does't change. For example: if i have the search controller below in the stack and detail controller up in the stack in this case on tapping the back button quickly the navigation bar comes to the search but the view controller remains on detail page. can any one can give me cause or solution of this problem. your help will be highly appreciated.

  Hi, I am looking to write a plugin controller in Cocoa that loads bundles, and exposes a specific set of methods for the plugins to call. My question is this: is it possible to know (any) info about the object that called a method in the controller. When an instantiated plugin calls a method in my plugin controller, I would like to know which of the plugin instances called the method, without having to rely on the plugin sending a pointer to itself as a parameter (I could always validate the pointer they send, but I want to keep the API methods as simple as possible). There may be no perfect solution (and there are simple workarounds), but it's always good to learn some new tricks if possible (or the reasons why it's impossible). Thanks in advance.

• ASP.net MVC support for URL's with hyphens

  Is there an easy way to get the MvcRouteHandler to convert all hyphens in the action and controller sections of an incoming URL to underscores as hyphens are not supported in method or class names. This would be so that I could support such structures as sample.com/test-page/edit-details mapping to Action edit_details and Controller test_pagecontroller while continuing to use MapRoute method. I understand I can specify an action name attribute and support hyphens in controller names which out manually adding routes to achieve this however I am looking for an automated way so save errors when adding new controllers and actions.

  Basically I have a Segmented Controller on my NavBar right in the middle. What I want to be able to do is hide the Segmented Controller and add a title to the navigation bar. But with my code, the segmented controller is being hidden, but the title will not add, thus leaving a blank NavBar. This is my simple code in .h: IBOutlet UISegmentedControl *toggleDay; IBOutlet UINavigationBar *navBar; And this is my code in my .m: toggleDay.hidden = YES; navBar.topItem.title = @"Title"; Any help would be great thanks!

It does not work, however. The respond method is not called when I click the button. The problem is that when I click any page in the paging links, it gives me the search results of an empty serach term. How can I pass the search term parameter which is a string in addition to the page number parameter ? What should I put in the routing ?

• How do I keep subdomain.domain.com links from mapping to subdomain.domain.com/subdomain?

  I have a virtual directory created and a sub domain that points to that virtual directory. My links always route to subdomain.domain.com/subdomain/controller/action when they can leave off the subdomain link. Is there an easy way to stop that? Also, it's the same problem when I mapped anotherdomain.com to my virtual directory. It ends up linking to anotherdomain.com/virtualdir/controller/action. It just looks unprofessional to me to have all my links be myapp.com/myapp/action/controller.

  Hi, folks. I have some problems with zend routes I have shops controller. It has 3 actions(for now): index - lists all of shops using paginator(so I have /shops/?page=2) show - shows concrete shop (show/Apple+store) search - shows search form So now I need to make routing for that. I have followin routes 'shop', new Zend_Controller_Router_Route ('/shops/:title',array('controller' = 'shops', 'action' = 'show'),array('title' = '/^(?!search$).+$/')) 'search_shops',new Zend_Controller_Router_Route_Static ('/shop/search',array('controller' = 'shops', 'action' = 'show')) but when i try to go /shops/Apple+store it says, that there is no Apple store action. If I ommit regexp part on shop route, I can't go to search. What am I doing wrong?
