  • Saving complex aggregates using Repository Pattern

    We have a complex aggregate (sensitive names obfuscated for confidentiality reasons). The root, R, is composed of collections of Ms, As, Cs, Ss. Ms have collections of other low-level details. etc etc R really is an aggregate (no fair suggesting we split it!) We use lazy loading to retrieve the details. No problem there. But we are struggling a little with how to save such a complex aggregate. From the caller's point of view: r = repository.find(id); r.Ps.add(factory.createP()); r.Cs[5].updateX(123); r.Ms.removeAt(5); repository.save(r); Our competing solutions are: Dirty flags Each entity in the aggregate in the aggregate has a dirty flag. The save() method in the repository walks the tree looking for dirty objects and saves them. Deletes and adds are a little trickier - especially with lazy-loading - but doable. Event listener accumulates changes. Repository subscribes a listener to changes and accumulates events. When save is called, the repository grabs all the change events and writes them to the DB. Give up on repository pattern. Implement overloaded save methods to save the parts of the aggregate separately. The original example would become: r = repository.find(id); r.Ps.add(factory.createP()); r.Cs[5].updateX(123); r.Ms.removeAt(5); repository.save(r.Ps); repository.save(r.Cs); repository.save(r.Ms); (or worse) Advice please!   • How to setup custom DNS with Azure Websites Preview?

    I created a new Azure Website, using Umbraco as the CMS. I got a page up and going, and I already have a .co.nz domain with www.domains4less.com. There's a whole lot of stuff on the internet about pointing URLs to Azure, but that seems to be more of a redirection service than anything (i.e. my URLs still use azurewebsites.net once I land on my site). Has anybody had any luck getting it to go?   • How does Bitmap.Save(Stream, ImageFormat) format the data?

    I have a non transparent, colour bitmap with length 2480 and width 3507. Using Bitmap.GetPixel(int x, int y) I am able to get the colour information of each pixel in the bitmap. If I squirt the bitmap into a byte[]: MemoryStream ms = new MemoryStream(); bmp.Save(ms, ImageFormat.Bmp); ms.Position = 0; byte[] bytes = ms.ToArray(); then I'd expect to have the same information, i.e. I can go to bytes[1000] and read the colour information for that pixel. It turns out that my array of bytes is larger than I anticipated. I thought I'd get an array with 2480 x 3507 = 8697360 elements. Instead I get an array with 8698438 elements - some sort of header I presume. In what format the bytes in my array stored? Is there a header 1078 bytes long followed by Alpha, Red, Green, Blue values for every byte element, or something else?

    I've created an image with GDI+ on my application and now I must convert this image to an array of bytes. My first thought was this simple code: public byte[] ToByte() { MemoryStream ms = new MemoryStream(); bitmap.Save(ms, ImageFormat.Bmp); return ms.GetBuffer(); } The problem with this approach is that when I finally save this image into a file the colors are inverted.     Hi guys, I am trying to write a socket server and Client that communicate with each other via serialized Objects.eg:To Login, Client sends server a serialized Login object and then the server deserialises the object to read login details. Similarly for other types of request/response. I just wanted to be sure if Socket.receive() can read(untill) large serialized objects completely. But while i clone the object this exception forces me to load all the EntitySet< references with the Customer object, which might be too much and slow down the application speed. Any suggestions?

    With jQuery 1.4.2, :hidden filter is not filtering out elements that were hidden, but i've made then visible by calling show(). Filter assumes it is still hidden.   • Visual C++ function suddenly 170x slower

    For the past few months I've been working on a Visual C++ project to take images from cameras and process them. Up until today this has taken about 65 ms to update the data but now it has suddenly increased significantly. What happens is: I launch my program and for the first 30 or so iterations it performs as expected, then suddenly the loop time increases from 65 ms to 250 ms. The odd thing is, after timing each function I found out that the part of the code which is causing the slowdown is fairly basic and has not been modified in over a month. The data which goes into it is unchanged and identical every iteration but the execution time which is initially less than 1 ms suddenly increases to 170 ms while the rest of the code is still performing as expected (time-wise). Basically, I am calling the same function over and over, for the first 30 calls it performs as it should, after that it slows down for no apparent reason. It might also be worth noting that it is a sudden change in execution time, not a gradual increase. What could be causing this? The code is leaking some memory (~50 kb/s) but not nearly enough to warrant a sudden 4x slowdown. If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them!

  • Wget works, Ping doesn't

    There are some anomalies on a Virtuozzo virtualized Debian 4 (I know, I'm gonna upgrade this one asap, but there dependences). We run some Websites on this one. And a view Days ago exmi4 wasnt able to send mails to SOME people. I'll use live.com as exampledomain! So some of this people got mails and some didn't. Some of the mails got stuck in the queue, and after 2 days they went out!! My Nagios never showed problems with the internet connection or disk space Now i wanted to install "dig" to look how he's solving the dns request. And this Debian tells me he doesn't know dig.. Long story made short, Debian is able to download sites with exact IP or even with wget live.com, but it is not able to ping live.com. I'm 99% sure that the networking is right and the routing too!     I have a small network set up like this: I have a Pfsense for connecting my servers to the WAN, they are using NAT from the LAN - WAN. I have an OpenVPN server using TAP to allow remote workers to be put on the same LAN network as the servers. They connect through the WAN IP to the OVPN interface. We are doing this on two servers connected to the same switch. However, we're only getting the speed of one physical link. We are using 1 Dell PowerConnect 5324, SW version 2.0.1.3, Boot version 1.0.2.02, HW version 00.00.02.     I have been struggling with this not easily reproducible issue since a while. I am using linux kernel v3.1.0, and sometimes routing to a few IP addresses does not work. What seems to happen is that instead of sending the packet to the gateway, the kernel treats the destination address as local, and tries to gets its MAC address via ARP.     Hi Everyone, I'm looking for scheduling software to schedule 25 people over 8 work sites. Most are FT and can work up to 40 hours a week, but some are part-time and can only work certain days of the week and up to a certain number of hours a week. There are 3 classes of employees: Managers, Supervisors, and Workers. They should be shuffled so that they spend approximately equal time at each of the 8 work sites and with all classes of employees; i.e., Joe the worker should spend about 1 out of 8 days on each work site, and work with managers, supervisors, and other workers equally. I tried to do this in excel with the solver, but the shuffling requirement makes it way too complicated, so I'm stuck trying to do big parts of this manually with the solver helping out with just the hour provisioning piece. Is there any open source software that could help me? Much appreciated! KA

  • Hanging of host network connections when starting KVM guest on bridge

    Hi, I've a KVM system upon which I'm running a network bridge directly between all VM's and a bond0 (eth0, eth1) on the host OS. As such, all machines are presented on the same subnet, available outside of the box. The bond is doing mode 1 active / passive, with an arp_ip_target set to the default gateway, which has caused some issues in itself, but I can't see the bond configs mattering here myself. I'm seeing odd things most times when I stop and start a guest on the platform, in that on the host I lose network connectivity (icmp, ssh) for about 30 seconds. I don't lose connectivity on the other already running VM's though... they can always ping the default GW, but the host can't. I say "about 30 seconds" but from some tests it actually seems to be 28 seconds usually (or at least, I lose 28 pings...) and I'm wondering if this somehow relates to the bridge config. I'm not running STP on the bridge at all, and the forwarding delay is set to 1 second, path cost on the bond0 lowered to 10 and port priority of bond0 also lowered to 1. As such I don't think that the bridge should ever be able to think that bond0 is not connected just fine (as continued guest connectivity implies) yet the IP of the host, which is on the bridge device (... could that matter?? ) becomes unreachable. I'm fairly sure it's about the bridged networking, but at the same time as this happens when a VM is started there are clearly loads of other things also happening so maybe I'm way off the mark.
