  • Is it bad OOP practice to have objects reference each other?

    Pardon my noobness. I'm making a game in which several characters have relationships with each other and they need to be able to interact with each other and store some relationship data regarding how they feel about each other. I have an object for each character. Is it bad for each of those character objects to have an array of all the other character objects in order to perform these interactions? Is there a better way to do this?

  • What's the best way to generate an API reference document using a Rails routes.rb file?

    I am trying to document the API for my Rails application and I can't help but wonder if there is a better way to generate an XML file based on my routes.rb file. I'm envisioning something similar to the output of rake routes but in a more friendly, XML type format. Corey has some interesting ideas about using reflection/introspection on the routes file here but it's not quite what I need. Please tell me this is a solved problem and I'm not the first one to think of this. :)

  • How to pass a variable inside a jquery fonction $.each($("abc")...?

    I'm trying to iterate a bunch of SELECT OPTION html drop-down fields and from the ones that are NOT empty, take the values and add a hidden field for a PAYPAL shopping cart. My problem is that for some reason, the variable "curitem" is not passed inside the each function and I can't add the hidden field like they should. All I get is "NaN" or "undefined". What PAYPAL expect is : item_name_1, item_name_2, etc. All numbers must iterate by +1. How can I do this?     An XML file is being posted to a url that my spring mvc is responding to. In .NET, I could do this: request.Form[0] request.Form["abc"] or request.QueryString[0] request.QueryString["some_key"] Now with spring/servlets it seems I can only do this: request.getParameter("some_key") or get all the names or values. When someone is posting a file to a url, using http post, won't this be just a single request parameter then? Can I get the parameter using index with servlets?

    I'm writing a simple Greasemonkey script to strip out all the images, headings and paragraphs from a web page (it's because someone wants to use images of several popular websites with the images and text removed in a presentation about branding of websites). I've figured out how to do so with images by using a for loop and the document.images array like this: var i = 0; var imglngth = document.images.length; for(i=0;i<imglngth;i++) { document.images[i].style.display="none"; } However, I don't believe there's an object representing paragraphs or headers. Any suggestions as to how I could implement this?

  • How exactly do you use json_decode to pass a javascript array to php?

    This is how I got my php array to javascript echo 'var daysofweek = '.json_encode($daysofweek).';'; Now I am aware that json_decode can do the opposite, however the problem is I don't know the syntax to do so. I tried: <script> var array_days = new Array(); array_days[] = "psdfo"; array_days[] = "bsdf"; <?php $array_days = json_decode(?>array_days<?php);?> </script> yes im clueless. I forgot to mention that I want to send an array through post, having all my information regarding all the form values dynamically created by javascript. Otherwise, I wouldn't know which name="" to look for as it will be decided by the user. Unless someone else has an alternative solution...

    So let's say I have a form which is being sent somewhere strange (and by strange we mean, NOT the default route: <% form_for @form_object, :url => {:controller => 'application', :action => 'form_action_thing'} do |f| %> <%= f.text_field :email %> <%= submit_tag 'Login' %> <% end %> Now let's say that we have the method that accepts it. def form_action_thing User.find(????? :email ?????) end My questions are thus: How does can I make the object @form_object available to the receiving method (in this case, form_action_tag)? I've tried params[:form_object], and I've scoured this site and the API, which I have to post below because SO doesn't believe I'm not a spammer (I'm a new member), as well as Googled as many permutations of this idea as I could think of. Nothing. Sorry if I missed something, i'm really trying. How do I address the object, once I've made it accessible to the method? Not params[:form_object], I'm guessing.
