• Dual booting Windows and Arch Linux (with GRUB2) - after using Windows, Windows Boot Manager made first in boot priority list

  I am dual booting Windows 7 and Arch Linux (both 64bit), with GRUB2, using the 64-bit EFI version. I partitioned my drive into a GPT drive and installed Windows first according to this guide. I then installed Arch Linux using the Beginner's Guide, installing grub2-efi-x86_64 in the process. Everything is working fine now, but with one problem. I can set the boot priority in BIOS (or is it UEFI?) to have GRUB boot try and boot before Windows Boot Manager. Then I chainload Windows Boot Manager using GRUB. However, when I actually use Windows in this manner, upon shutting down and turning on again, or rebooting, Windows seems to set Windows Boot Manager first in the priority list again, with the result being I have to manually set GRUB again, or I can't boot into Linux. My motherboard is an Asrock H61M/USB3, if that helps. I want to know how to turn off this behaviour.

• Putting codes in email subjects

  We send out large quantities of email to our customers (work environment surveys). Sometimes our mailinglist for a client isn't quite up to date and we get bounce mails (address not found and such). However, since these all bounce back to the same address it's difficult to keep track on which bounce belongs to which client. (The email subject is usually pretty generic, like "Welcome to the work environment survey") This is why I would like to insert a identifier in the subject line of the email. So the subject would be "Welcome to the work environment survey (1234)" where 1234 is a number identifying the client/survey. We already rank pretty high because of the way our mailer handles sending the mails. Usually we contact the clients it-dept to get them to whitelist us in their firewall/spamfilter. Would this increase our spamscore in spamfilters?

  Hello, I turned my pc into router by allowing port forwarding on port 80 and got my hostname(xyz.donexist.org) registered through dyndns.com. Now i when i type my public ip address in browser i get redirected to my browser. I have installed glassfish and have my website deployed in glassfish. I want that when i type xyz.donexist.org my website should be opened. What all steps more i need to take? I have made a entry in etc/hosts file as :- 127.0.0.1 xyz.donexist.org Please guide me.   Hello all: I'm an intermediate Linux user and a relative beginner to servers. I would like some help finding resources on setting up a basic server. I have Googled, and am a member of the Ubuntu Forums, but just figure it can't hurt to ask the Stack Overflow community for help as well. I plan on installing on an old laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad R61i or Toshiba Satellite A105). I have downloaded the latest Ubuntu (9.10) but don't know how to do any of the configurations. • Removing perl module installed with cpanm

  I am Perl beginner. I wanted to use Log::Log4perl module as I am familiar how it works in Java. I used cpanm script to download module, but I ran it without "sudo". Then it installed this module to my dir /home/amer/perl5. Afterwards, I installed it as sudoer, but I want to remove installation in my home dir to avoid any conflicts in future. How can I do that?   I am using Juniper J-series routers to emulate a small telco and VPN customer.I need to use OSPF so that the path to each internal subnet is propogated to all PE nodes.The network topology is given below. To achieve this I am planning to run the following commands in UOW-TAU and UOW-HAM. set protocols ospf area 0.0.0.0 interface ge-0/0/0 set protocols ospf area 0.0.0.0 interface lo0.0 Do I need to do any additional configuration in TAU-PE1 and HAM-PE1 routers for it to receive the OSPF paths.?   Hello, I'm currently managing a site that I feel could be optimized and utilized to be much faster, however, I'm having difficulty finding reliable information to do it. I find the Apache documentation to be a hard read, and too technical about things I don't have a strong grasp on. I'm just looking for a good beginner/intermediate book about server administration to learn as much as possible about Apache, as well as how to create a nice secure, robust server that doesn't crash at the first hint of unusual traffic surges. • Asterisk Connection not working

  I have installed Asterisk on VirtualBox by following the steps from here. Everything went ok until I got to navigate to an IP to configure Asterisk using FreePBX: 10.0.2.15 (Shouldn't be something like 192.168.x.y?? ). However, when I navigated to that url from outside of VirtualBox, that url pointed to nothing. Also I am logged in as root@localhost. Should I be logged in as root@server? I have also validated the installation as described here and everything went well. I am a complete beginner at Asterisk.

  Hi guys, First of all I would like to stress I'm beginner and probably I'm not doing something right. I replaced my old motherboard (AK35S20C Schuttle) with a new motherboard (Soltek SL-75DRV75). Unfortunately the replacement isn't working as expected. Symptoms are: The computer powers on, works less than a second and powers off. Then it powers on again and so on. It doesn't emit any sound, it looks like it resets very quickly. Do you have any suggestions what might be the problem?

• Full Uninstall winvnc.exe

  This computer (Windows 7) has not been able to run Windows Aero after I installed some VNC software, UltraVNC and TightVNC. I want to get Aero back, and Microsoft Fix It tells me that it can't be turned on because of mirror drivers (this edition includes Aero, and I had it working well before), which I managed to learn can come from winvnc.exe, which is installed by both programs. I would like to uninstall winvnc.exe and the service from this computer. I messed with the command line a little (I know, I aws being careful), but I couldn't get anywhere, I'm a total beginner with the command line. Can someone please help me remove the exe file and the service, so the mirror drivers are disabled and I can use Aero again? I don't need the VNC servers (I couldn't get them to work anyway), but if keeping the clients is possible that would be nice.

  I have just started GTK+ coding in C. I was curious whether i can get syntax highlight and auto-completion working for my GTK code... because as a beginner it would be helpful. • Bash: Created a ~ (Tilde) in a directory by accident

  I'm a beginner to using bash on OSX, and I somehow created a ~ dir in a project subfolder. (It appears as a directory, rather than a symlink.) Is there a safe way to get rid of this ~ directory instance without bash expanding the tilde wiping my local user directory? This is a really goofy question, but it would be a huge help to figure out how to deal with this. Solution: I ended up using rm -rfi ./\~, which worked safely. Thanks, everyone!

  Yesterday I came across jedi-vim plugin which provides auto-completion for python. I installed the plugin using pathogen by placing it in bundle directory and it is working fine. Now, as I have mentioned that this plugin is only for filetype: python so I want to load it only when I open files with .py extensions and not when I open other files like .java, .perl, .sh. So, how can this be achieved. I am a vim beginner/noob but I googled before asking and found that this can be achieved using vim ftplugin but I have no idea whatsoever where to place which file.

• How can I debug Cisco Firewall ASA "Dispatch Unit" very high CPU utilisation from ASDM?

  I have recently had my first firewall installed so I am very new to this whole situation. I am finding that Dispatch unit is becoming overloaded and it would appear to be the reason I get serious bouts of lag on my server. The firewall has had little configuration apart from me blocking all the ports in "Access Rules" and allowing only the ones the server needs and from where it needs them. I guess what I am after is assistance with locating the issues causing "Dispatch Unit" to take up all the CPU Regards --Edit-- With ASDM statistics I found that packets inbound (peak of 70-100k/sec from <1k/sec normal), traffic inbound (peak of 40-50kbits/sec from <1kbits/sec normal) and CPU all peak at the same time so I am pretty sure it is an attack of some sort but as a beginner with ASA I am not sure how to resolve

• What ports to open for mail server?

  Hi, I have just finished setting up a Postfix mail server on a linux (ubuntu) platform. I have it sending and receiving email and it is not an open relay. It also supports secure smtp and imap. Now this is a pretty beginner question but should I be leaving port 25 open? (since secure smtp is preferred). if so then why? Also what about port 587? Also should I require any authentication on either of these ports? Please excuse my ignorance in this area :P

  All my life I used Microsoft Office on Windows for document writing and then Libre(Open)Office on Linux. This is not a bad software, but not perfect and I have some complaints. Now on my usual desktop I have Linux. I heard from people who work a lot with documents of different type and complexity (diagrams, articles, document design, presentation) that latex is a perfect thing. I have spent two days exploring Latex and my opinion as a beginner that it is out-of-date (the concepts of Latex language). The language is not intuitive and sometimes even complex. Can somebody advise another software product for document writing?

• Tomcat 5.5 - second application returs 404

  There are two versions of web application. Want to have both on one machine so I can test upgrade. If there is one of them copied to Tomcat's webapplications directory and then Tomcat is started, it works fine. So if there is only have only ...webapplicatios\ROOT\... ...webapplicatios\myApp25\... it works fine. Or when there is only ...\webapps\ROOT\... ...\webapps\myApp26\... it works fine too. If I upload both ...\webapps\ROOT and ...\webapps\myApp25 ...\webapps\myApp26 only one of the apps will work. The other one returns 404, page not found. It's running on Windows7 and I use Tomcat 5.5. Tomcat is just default installation. Any idea what to check? How to make both running both apps? Thank you in advance for any help. I'm beginner regarding TC.

  I'm a bit of a beginner with Unix systems, but I'm running Cygwin on my Windows Server, and I am trying to figure out something related to extended ACLs. I have a directory to which I set the following ACLs: Administrator@MyServer ~ $ setfacl -m d:u:Someuser:r-- somedir Administrator@MyServer ~ $ getfacl somedir/ # file: somedir/ # owner: Administrator # group: None user::rwx group::r-x mask:rwx other:r-x default:user::rwx default:user:Someuser:r-- default:group::r-x default:mask:rwx default:other:r-x As you can see mose of the default ACLs have the x bit. Then when I create a fine in it, it doesn't inherit the ACLs it is supposed to: Administrator@MyServer ~ $ touch somedir/somefile Administrator@MyServer ~ $ getfacl somedir/somefile # file: somedir/somefile # owner: Administrator # group: None user::rw- user:Someuser:r-- group::r-- mask:rwx other:r-- It's basically missing the x bit everywhere. Any idea why?

  I have the following scenario i must implement using Postfix (but don't know how to begin): Say we have a domain aaa.com which is hosted somewhere (this is already functioning without any problems). On this envirnoment there is already a Mail server though which we can send and receive mail (this mail server is limiting us to a very small number of emails/day). Now we have setup a VPS (virtual private server) on which we installed Postfix, which sole porpuse is to send emails on behalf of domain aaa.com.   I'm working on an MPLS backbone topology using GNS3, this topology includes configuration of several networking technologies such as IPv6, BGP, OSPF, IPv6 to IPv4 dynamic tunneling, MPLS based VPNs, MPLS based traffic engineering... So I'm a beginner with basic knowledge in networking (Ipv4 addressing, basic routing and switching) and I can't just easly test if my topology works or not, moreover fiddling with configuration I've noticed that sometimes when getting MPLS config right and missing BGP config all my topology is messed up. Given that I use Cisco 7200 series routers, is there any way to build a test harness for my topology in order to guarentee correctness with a single push button automated process?

• What is a good solution for an intranet video portal (YouTube-like) site?

  I would like an easy-to-setup site to handle videos to be viewed internally by my company. YouTube is essentially the perfect solution except for its being public. I'm looking for a place where a few people can upload videos, and the system will return a page where they can watch that video in a browser. I figure this would involve a dedicated Web server to run the Web application and process the videos. I've searched and I don't think such a system exists, but I perhaps there's one out there in its infancy that doesn't rank high on Google yet. Essentially the site I'm looking for is what MediaWiki is to Wikis, or what StackExchange is to Q&A sites, but for videos. Thanks in advance!
