  • Can XPath concatenate two nodeset values? (for use in XForms)

    - by iHeartGreek
    Hi! I am wanting to concatenate two nodeset values using XPath in XForms. I know that XPath has a concat(string, string) function, but how would I go about concatenating two nodeset values? BEGIN EDIT: I tried concat function.. I tried this.. and variations of it to make it work, but it doesn't <xf:value ref="concat(instance('param_choices')/choice/root, .)"/> END EDIT Below is a simplified code example of what I am trying to achieve. XForms model: <xf:instance id="param_choices" xmlns=""> <choices> <root label="Param Choices">/param</root> <choice label="Name">/@AAA</choice> <choice label="Value">/@BBB</choice> </choices> </xf:instance> XForms ui code that I currently have: <xf:select ref="instance('criteria_data')/criteria/criterion" appearance="full"> <xf:label>Param choices:</xf:label> <br/> <xf:itemset nodeset="instance('param_choices')/choice"> <xf:label ref="@label"></xf:label> <xf:value ref="."></xf:value> </xf:itemset> </xf:select> (if user selects "Name" checkbox..) the XML output is: <criterion>/@BBB</criterion> However! I want to combine the root nodeset value with the current choice nodeset value. Essentially: <xf:value ref="(instance('definition_choices')/choice/root) + ."/> to achieve the following XML output: <criterion>/param/@BBB</criterion> Any suggestions on how to do this? (I am fairly new to XPath and XForms) p.s. what I am asking makes sense to me when I typed it out, but if you have trouble figuring out what I'm asking, just let me know.. thanks!

  • Lighttpd + fastcgi + python (for django) slow on first request

    - by EagleOne
    I'm having a problem with a django website I host with lighttpd + fastcgi. It works great but it seems that the first request always takes up to 3seconds. Subsequent requests are much faster (<1s). I activated access logs in lighttpd in order to track the issue. But I'm kind of stuck. Here are logs where I 'lose' 4s (from 10:04:17 to 10:04:21): 2012-12-01 10:04:17: (mod_fastcgi.c.3636) handling it in mod_fastcgi 2012-12-01 10:04:17: (response.c.470) -- before doc_root 2012-12-01 10:04:17: (response.c.471) Doc-Root : /var/www 2012-12-01 10:04:17: (response.c.472) Rel-Path : /finderauto.fcgi 2012-12-01 10:04:17: (response.c.473) Path : 2012-12-01 10:04:17: (response.c.521) -- after doc_root 2012-12-01 10:04:17: (response.c.522) Doc-Root : /var/www 2012-12-01 10:04:17: (response.c.523) Rel-Path : /finderauto.fcgi 2012-12-01 10:04:17: (response.c.524) Path : /var/www/finderauto.fcgi 2012-12-01 10:04:17: (response.c.541) -- logical -> physical 2012-12-01 10:04:17: (response.c.542) Doc-Root : /var/www 2012-12-01 10:04:17: (response.c.543) Rel-Path : /finderauto.fcgi 2012-12-01 10:04:17: (response.c.544) Path : /var/www/finderauto.fcgi 2012-12-01 10:04:21: (response.c.128) Response-Header: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Last-Modified: Sat, 01 Dec 2012 09:04:21 GMT Expires: Sat, 01 Dec 2012 09:14:21 GMT Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8 Cache-Control: max-age=600 Transfer-Encoding: chunked Date: Sat, 01 Dec 2012 09:04:21 GMT Server: lighttpd/1.4.28 I guess that if there is a problem, it's whith my configuration.   • Nginx + Nagios : 502 Bad gateway

    - by MrROY
    I have a fully new install nagios, but I can't access to it. Here's my Nginx config: server{ listen 80; server_name 61.148.45.10; # blahblah # Nagios Monitoring location /nagios3/ { proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:80; } } Nagios is installed step by step(From this Linode guide): sudo apt-get install -y nagios3 Then I try to visit http://ip-address/nagios3/, but it shows 502 bad gateway. • OpenBSD configuration: Client unable to mount via NFS using Berkeley Automounter (amd)

    - by Rilindo
    What I am trying to do is to have my openBSD client (OpenBSD 4.9) auto mount a Linux NFS file system (Scientific Linux 6.1). So far, I am not sure if it is configured correctly. To get things out of the way, I am able to mount nfs manually: # mount_nfs -T -3 192.168.15.100:/exports /mnt # ls -la /mnt total 52 drwxr-xr-x 7 root wheel 4096 Oct 4 22:42 . drwxr-xr-x 16 root wheel 512 Nov 26 16:33 .. drwxrwxr-x 5 _sndio _sndio 4096 Oct 31 21:58 centos drwxr-xr-x 15 root wheel 4096 Nov 6 09:17 home drwxr-xr-x 5 root wheel 4096 Oct 31 21:27 sl drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 4096 Nov 19 16:02 sles drwxr-xr-x 17 503 503 4096 Nov 10 17:37 users # So connectivity is not an issue, as far as I can tell. Still, I tried to see if I it can automount. Other than this, information is fairly sparse. I can, of course, always mount is permanently, but I tend to be a bit anal on convention, so no for now. :) Some direction would be appreciation. (And oh, in case you are a wondering, I tried FreeBSD way of using amd and that hasn't worked out - although I wouldn't mind an explanation of the difference between how FreeBSD implements and how OpenBSD implements it) UPDATE: After re-writing the map file several times, I got as far as actually communicating with the NFS server with this configuration: /defaults type:=nfs;rhost:=kerberos.monzell.com;rfs:=/exports;\ sublink:=${key};opts:=rw,nodev,nosuid,soft,intr,tcp,resvport * ${host}==${rhost};type:=nfs;fs:=${rfs};opts:=rw,nodev,nosuid,soft,intr,tcp,resvport However, for some reason, it seems that amd will only default to NFS version 2 over udp: # tcpdump dst kerberos tcpdump: listening on pcn0, link-type EN10MB tcpdump: WARNING: compensating for unaligned libpcap packets 20:38:28.558385 openbsd.monzell.com.856 > kerberos.monzell.com.sunrpc: udp 100 20:38:28.559154 openbsd.monzell.com.856 > kerberos.monzell.com.892: udp 96 20:38:30.592761 openbsd.monzell.com.856 > kerberos.monzell.com.nfsd: xid 0x22000000 (NFSv2) 40 null 20:38:33.558107 arp reply openbsd.monzell.com is-at 52:54:00:52:8f:66 I tried various options of forcing it to try to mount as nfsv3 such as: /defaults type:=nfs;rhost:=kerberos.monzell.com;rfs:=/exports;\ sublink:=${key};opts:=rw,nodev,nosuid,soft,intr,vers=3,proto=tcp,resvport * ${host}==${rhost};type:=nfs;fs:=${rfs};opts:=rw,nodev,nosuid,soft,intr,vers=3,proto=tcp,resvport or: /defaults type:=nfs;rhost:=kerberos.monzell.com;rfs:=/exports;\ sublink:=${key};opts:=rw,nodev,nosuid,soft,intr,vers=-3,proto=tcp,resvport * ${host}==${rhost};type:=nfs;fs:=${rfs};opts:=rw,nodev,nosuid,soft,intr,vers=3,proto=tcp,resvport Nothing yet still. Curious enough, OpenBSD mounts defaults to version 3, so I am not sure why it would start with version in amd. What would be the correct options to pass?

  • Replicate between mysql 5.0.xx community and enterprise edition over ssh

    - by Arlukin
    I'm trying to setup a mysql replication over an SSH tunnel. The odd thing about this setup is that I have one master with mysql 5.0.60sp1-enterprise-gpl-log and one slave with mysql 5.0.67-community-log. Could it be so that it's not possible to replicate between community and enterprise edition? As you can see in my log below, it's possible to login on the remote server with the mysql client. But the replication get "Can't connect to MySQL server on '127.0.0.1' (13)" Is it any log file I have forgotten to look in, to get more info? • Secure method of changing a user's password via Python script/non-interactively

    - by Matthew Rankin
    I've created a Python script using Fabric to configure a freshly built Slicehost Ubuntu slice. In case you're not familiar with Fabric, it uses Paramiko, a Python SSH2 client, to provide remote access "for application deployment or systems administration tasks." One of the first things I have the Fabric script do is to create a new admin user and set their password. Unlike Pexpect, Fabric cannot handle interactive commands on the remote system, so I need to set the user's password non-interactively. At present, I'm using the chpasswd command to change the password. This transmits the password as clear text over SSH to the remote system. Questions Is my current method of setting the password a security concern? Currently, the drawback I see is that Fabric shows the password as clear text on my local system as follows: [xxx.xx.xx.xxx] run: echo "johnsmith:supersecretpassw0rd" | chpasswd. Since I only run the Fabric script from my laptop, I don't think this is a security issue, but I'm interested in others' input. Is there a better method for setting the user's password non-interactively? Another option, would be to use Pexpect from within the Fabric script to set the password. Current Code # Fabric imports and host configuration excluded for brevity root_password = getpass.getpass("Root's password given by SliceManager: ") admin_username = prompt("Enter a username for the admin user to create: ") admin_password = getpass.getpass("Enter a password for the admin user: ") env.user = 'root' env.password = root_password # Create the admin group and add it to the sudoers file admin_group = 'admin' run('addgroup {group}'.format(group=admin_group)) run('echo "%{group} ALL=(ALL) ALL" >> /etc/sudoers'.format( group=admin_group) ) # Create the new admin user (default group=username); add to admin group run('adduser {username} --disabled-password --gecos ""'.format( username=admin_username) ) run('adduser {username} {group}'.format( username=admin_username, group=admin_group) ) # Set the password for the new admin user run('echo "{username}:{password}" | chpasswd'.format( username=admin_username, password=admin_password) ) Local System Terminal I/O $ fab config_rebuilt_slice Root's password given by SliceManager: Enter a username for the admin user to create: johnsmith Enter a password for the admin user: [xxx.xx.xx.xxx] run: addgroup admin [xxx.xx.xx.xxx] out: Adding group `admin' (GID 1000) ... • Troubleshooting High Load on Plesk LAMP Dedicated Server

    - by Callmeed
    I have 2 nearly identical dedicated servers with the same provider. They also run a nearly identical software stack: RedHat 5 64-bit, Plesk, PHP, Apache, & MySQL. We use them for hosting custom sites we build. The problem is, while our 1st server has a load average (in top) of around 0.3, the 2nd server consistently has a load average of around 4.0 or higher. Basic functions in Plesk are delayed and there is a bit of latency when executing shell commands. Anyone have ideas why it would be so high? And why it would differ from our other server so much? Here is my current top output (sorted by %MEM) ... • Nginx + PHP - No input file specified for 1 server block. Other server block works fine

    - by F21
    I am running Ubuntu Desktop 12.04 with nginx 1.2.6. PHP is PHP-FPM 5.4.9. This is the relevant part of my nginx.conf: http { include mime.types; default_type application/octet-stream; sendfile on; keepalive_timeout 65; server { server_name testapp.com; root /www/app/www/; index index.php index.html index.htm; location ~ \.php$ { fastcgi_intercept_errors on; fastcgi_pass 127.0.0.1:9000; fastcgi_index index.php; fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME $document_root$fastcgi_script_name; include fastcgi_params; } } server { listen 80 default_server; root /www index index.html index.php; location ~ \.php$ { fastcgi_intercept_errors on; fastcgi_pass 127.0.0.1:9000; fastcgi_index index.php; fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME $document_root$fastcgi_script_name; include fastcgi_params; } } } Relevant bits from php-fpm.conf: ; Chroot to this directory at the start. This value must be defined as an ; absolute path. When this value is not set, chroot is not used. ; Note: you can prefix with '$prefix' to chroot to the pool prefix or one ; of its subdirectories. If the pool prefix is not set, the global prefix ; will be used instead. ; Note: chrooting is a great security feature and should be used whenever ; possible. However, all PHP paths will be relative to the chroot ; (error_log, sessions.save_path, ...). ; Default Value: not set ;chroot = ; Chdir to this directory at the start. ; Note: relative path can be used. ; Default Value: current directory or / when chroot chdir = /www In my hosts file, I redirect 2 domains: testapp.com and test.com to 127.0.0.1. My web files are all stored in /www. From the above settings, if I visit test.com/phpinfo.php and test.com/app/www, everything works as expected and I get output from PHP. However, if I visit testapp.com, I get the dreaded No input file specified. error. So, at this point, I pull out the log files and have a look: 2012/12/19 16:00:53 [error] 12183#0: *17 FastCGI sent in stderr: "Unable to open primary script: /www/app/www/index.php (No such file or directory)" while reading response header from upstream, client: 127.0.0.1, server: testapp.com, request: "GET / HTTP/1.1", upstream: "fastcgi://127.0.0.1:9000", host: "testapp.com" This baffles me because I have checked again and again and /www/app/www/index.php definitely exists! This is also validated by the fact that test.com/app/www/index.php works which means the file exists and the permissions are correct. Why is this happening and what are the root causes of things breaking for just the testapp.com v-host? Just an update to my investigation: I have commented out chroot and chdir in php-fpm.conf to narrow down the problem If I remove the location ~ \.php$ block for testapp.com, then nginx will send me a bin file which contains the PHP code. This means that on nginx's side, things are fine. The problem is that something must be mangling the file paths when passing it to PHP-FPM. Having said that, it is quite strange that the default_server v-host works fine because its root is /www, where as things just won't work for the testapp.com v-host because the root is /www/app/www.

  • How to redirect http requests to https (nginx)

    - by spuder
    There appear to be many questions and guides out there that instruct how to setup nginx to redirect http requests to https. • ls hangs for a certain directory

    - by Jakobud
    There is a particular directory (/var/www), that when I run ls (with or without some options), the command hangs and never completes. There is only about 10-15 files and directories in /var/www. Mostly just text files. Here is some investigative info: [me@server www]$ df . Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/mapper/vg_dev-lv_root 50G 19G 29G 40% / [me@server www]$ df -i . Filesystem Inodes IUsed IFree IUse% Mounted on /dev/mapper/vg_dev-lv_root 3.2M 435K 2.8M 14% / find works fine. Also I can type in cd /var/www/ and press TAB before pressing enter and it will successfully tab-completion list of all files/directories in there: [me@server www]$ cd /var/www/ cgi-bin/ create_vhost.sh html/ manual/ phpMyAdmin/ scripts/ usage/ conf/ error/ icons/ mediawiki/ rackspace sqlbuddy/ vhosts/ [me@server www]$ cd /var/www/ I have had to kill my terminal sessions several times because of the ls hanging: [me@server ~]$ ps | grep ls gdm 6215 0.0 0.0 488152 2488 ? What else should I do to investigate this problem? It just randomly started happening today. UPDATE dmesg is a big list of things, mostly related to an external USB HDD that I've mounted too many times and the max mount count has been reached, but that is an un-related problem I think. • Choice and setup of version control

    - by Peter M
    I am about to set up an new laptop and in the process transition to a new version control system as part of a general cleanup. Currently I use a centralized version control system (yes it is VSS, and yes I know all the pro's and con's of that system, but as a single user system it works well for me). I have very little requirements for a new system and I am free to choose among any of the current mainstream players, but cost constraints will push me towards oss. Some of my requirements are: Runs on a single machine (ie the laptop in question) under windows I am not sharing things with other developers or workers - this is more for my own historical benefits. I want to version source code, documentation and binary files I have a large hierarchy of projects that are unrelated (see below) I have files within the hierarchy that don't need to be controlled (but could be) Some projects use Visual Studio, so some integration there could be nice. There could be some sharing of files between jobs. I generally only need a small about of branching in code files The directory hierarchy that I have at the moment is somewhat like: Root | |--Customer #1 | | | |--Job #1 | | | | | |--Data files received from Customer for Job (not controlled) | | |--Documentation files (controlled) | | |--Project information files (not controlled - but could be) | | |--Software Project Files (controlled) | | |--Scratch dir for job (not controlled) | | | |--Job #2 | | (same structure as above) | |--Customer #2 | |.. | |--Cusmtomer #n |.. Currently I have about 22 customers with differing numbers of projects underneath them. At the moment I have a single VSS repository based at the root of the directory structure. If I kept with a centralized system (ie SVN) I believe that I should keep the same approach and continue with a single repository based from the root dir. Is this a valid approach? However if I move to a distributed tool then I am unsure of how I should handle the situation. My initial guess is that I should not have a repository based on the root of my entire directory structure - but that is a guess so I really don't know how valid it is. Should I pitch a distributed approach at the Root, Customer, Job or sub-Job directory level? Also what I am not clear on with distributed tools (and perhaps with SVN as well), is if I can branch parts of a repository. For example, I can see branching source code in software projects as being useful, but branching my documentation as not being useful. So if I pitch a repository at the Job level, can I just branch the Software Project Files? Or would all files in that Job be branched? Every time I look at distributed tools I get a nagging feeling that they are not suited to my style of setup. I am uncomfortable with idea of having to manually set up something like 50 to 80 separate repositories (if I pitch at the Job level, or 20+ if at the Customer level) within my directory hierarchy. This feeling also extends to having all those repositories scattered around as well - however I do have a backup strategy that I trust, so this latter feeling is pretty well unfounded. So what advice can you all give me? Thanks in advance!

  • nginx serving php for download (previously: nginx multiple location alias 404)

    - by torsten
    Im having issues with the alias location in the following configuration server { listen 80; server_name localhost; root /srv/http/share; index index.php; include php.conf; location / { try_files $uri $uri/ /index.php$is_args$args; } location /phpmemcachedadmin { alias /srv/http/phpmemcachedadmin; } location /webgrind { alias /srv/http/webgrind; } } while / works well, im getting a 404 for /webgrind and /phpmemcachedadmin. If i switch the root directory to /srv/http and alias the / location, die /phpmemcachedadmin and webgrind work, but not the / location. UPDATE: I managed the probems getting all location to work, so here is the updated config #user html; worker_processes 2; #error_log logs/error.log; #error_log logs/error.log notice; #error_log logs/error.log info; #pid logs/nginx.pid; events { worker_connections 1024; } http { include mime.types; default_type application/octet-stream; sendfile on; keepalive_timeout 65; gzip on; server { listen 80; server_name localhost; location / { root /srv/http/share; index index.php; try_files $uri $uri/ /index.php$is_args$args; include php.conf; } location /phpmemcachedadmin { root /srv/http; index index.php; try_files $uri $uri/ /index.php$is_args$args; include php.conf; } location /webgrind { root /srv/http; index index.php; try_files $uri $uri/ /index.php$is_args$args; include php.conf; } } } The php.conf looks like this: location ~ \.php$ { try_files $uri =404; fastcgi_pass unix:/run/php-fpm/php-fpm.sock; fastcgi_index index.php; include fastcgi.conf; } while the fastcgi.conf like this: fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME $document_root$fastcgi_script_name; fastcgi_param QUERY_STRING $query_string; fastcgi_param REQUEST_METHOD $request_method; fastcgi_param CONTENT_TYPE $content_type; fastcgi_param CONTENT_LENGTH $content_length; fastcgi_param SCRIPT_NAME $fastcgi_script_name; fastcgi_param REQUEST_URI $request_uri; fastcgi_param DOCUMENT_URI $document_uri; fastcgi_param DOCUMENT_ROOT $document_root; fastcgi_param SERVER_PROTOCOL $server_protocol; fastcgi_param HTTPS $https if_not_empty; fastcgi_param GATEWAY_INTERFACE CGI/1.1; fastcgi_param SERVER_SOFTWARE nginx/$nginx_version; fastcgi_param REMOTE_ADDR $remote_addr; fastcgi_param REMOTE_PORT $remote_port; fastcgi_param SERVER_ADDR $server_addr; fastcgi_param SERVER_PORT $server_port; fastcgi_param SERVER_NAME $server_name; # PHP only, required if PHP was built with --enable-force-cgi-redirect fastcgi_param REDIRECT_STATUS 200; But there is a problem serving phpmemcachedadmin. If i call localhost/phpmemcachedadmin/index.php it works quite well (i get a log that i got served the file in access log). On the other hand, if i just call localhost/phpmemcachedadmin/ he serves me the file for download. Neither the error.log nor the access.log log anything when i get served the the file for download. Any ideas?

  • SNTP, why do you mock me?!

    - by Matthew
    --- SOLVED SEE EDIT 5 --- My w2k3 pdc is configured as an authoritative time server. Other servers on the domain are able to sync with it if I manually specify it in the peer list. By if I try to sync from flags 'domhier', it wont resync; I get the error message The computer did not resync because no time data was available. I can only think that it is not querying the pdc. I also tried setting the registry as shown here (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/193825). But no luck (I have not restarted the server, I am hoping I wont have to since it is the pdc) If you would like any further information on my config, please let me know. Edit 1: I have set the w32time service config AnnouceFlags to 0x05 as documented here www.krr.org/microsoft/authoritative_time_servers.php and a number of other places. The PDC syncs to an external time source (ntp). I can get the stripchart on the client from the pdc no problems. The loginserver for the host I am trying to configure is shown as the pdc. Edit 2: The packet capture has revealed something interesting. The client is contacting the correct server, and getting a valid response but I still get the same error message. • Hanging of host network connections when starting KVM guest on bridge

    - by Chris Phillips
    Hi, I've a KVM system upon which I'm running a network bridge directly between all VM's and a bond0 (eth0, eth1) on the host OS. As such, all machines are presented on the same subnet, available outside of the box. The bond is doing mode 1 active / passive, with an arp_ip_target set to the default gateway, which has caused some issues in itself, but I can't see the bond configs mattering here myself. I'm seeing odd things most times when I stop and start a guest on the platform, in that on the host I lose network connectivity (icmp, ssh) for about 30 seconds. I don't lose connectivity on the other already running VM's though... they can always ping the default GW, but the host can't. I say "about 30 seconds" but from some tests it actually seems to be 28 seconds usually (or at least, I lose 28 pings...) and I'm wondering if this somehow relates to the bridge config. I'm not running STP on the bridge at all, and the forwarding delay is set to 1 second, path cost on the bond0 lowered to 10 and port priority of bond0 also lowered to 1. As such I don't think that the bridge should ever be able to think that bond0 is not connected just fine (as continued guest connectivity implies) yet the IP of the host, which is on the bridge device (... could that matter?? ) becomes unreachable. I'm fairly sure it's about the bridged networking, but at the same time as this happens when a VM is started there are clearly loads of other things also happening so maybe I'm way off the mark. So i have set up an openldap server using this guide here. It worked fine. But as i want to use sssd i also need TLS to be working for ldap. So i looked into and followed the TLS part of the guide. And i never got any errors and slapd started fine again. BUT. • Nginx - Redirect any Subdomain to File without Rewriting

    - by Waffle
    Recently I have switched from Apache to Nginx to increase performance on a web server running Ubuntu 11.10. I have been having issues trying to figure out how certain things work in Nginx compared to Apache, but one issue has been stumping me and I have not been able to find the answer online. My problem is that I need to be able to redirect (not rewrite) any sub-domain to a file, but that file needs to be able to get the sub-domain part of the URL in order to do a database look-up of that sub-domain. So far, I have been able to get any sub-domain to rewrite to that file, but then it loses the text of the sub-domain I need. So, for example, I would like test.server.com to redirect to server.com/resolve.php, but still remain as test.server.com. If this is not possible, the thing that I would need at the very least would be something such as going to test.server.com would go to server.com/resolve.php?=test . One of these options must be possible in Nginx. My config as it stands right now looks something like this: server { listen 80; ## listen for ipv4; this line is default and implied listen [::]:80 default ipv6only=on; ## listen for ipv6 root /usr/share/nginx/www; index index.php index.html index.htm; # Make site accessible from http://localhost/ server_name www.server.com server.com; location / { # First attempt to serve request as file, then # as directory, then fall back to index.html try_files $uri $uri/ /index.html; } location /doc { root /usr/share; autoindex on; allow 127.0.0.1; } location /images { root /usr/share; autoindex off; } #error_page 404 /404.html; # redirect server error pages to the static page /50x.html # #error_page 500 502 503 504 /50x.html; #location = /50x.html { # root /usr/share/nginx/www; #} # proxy the PHP scripts to Apache listening on 127.0.0.1:80 # #location ~ \.php$ { # proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1; #} # pass the PHP scripts to FastCGI server listening on 127.0.0.1:9000 # location ~ \.php$ { fastcgi_pass unix:/tmp/php5-fpm.sock; fastcgi_index index.php; include fastcgi_params; } # deny access to .htaccess files, if Apache's document root # concurs with nginx's one # #location ~ /\.ht { # deny all; #} } server { listen 80 default; server_name *.server.com; rewrite ^ http://www.server.com/resolve.php; } As I said before, I am very new to Nginx, so I have a feeling the answer is pretty simple, but no examples online seem to deal with just redirects without rewrites or rewriting with the sub-domain section included. Any help on what to do would be most appreciated and if any one has a better idea to accomplish what I need, I am also open to ideas. Thank you very much.

  • In Linux, what's the best way to delegate administration responsibilities, like for Apache, a database, or some other application?

    - by Andrew Banks
    In Linux, what's the best way to delegate administration responsibilities for Apache and other "applications"? File permissions? Sudo? A mix of both? Something else? At work we have two tiers of "administrators" Operating system administrators. These are your run-of-the-mill "server administrators." They are responsible for just the operating system. Application administrators. The people who build the web site. This includes not only writing the SQL, PHP, and HTML, but also setting up and running Apache and PostgreSQL or MySQL. The aforementioned OS admins will install this stuff, but it's mainly up to the app admins to edit all the config files, start and stop processes when needed, and so on. I am one of the app admins. This is different than what I am used to. I used to just write code. The sysadmin took care not only of the OS but also installing, setting up, and keeping up the server software. But he left. Now I'm in charge of setting up Apache and the database. The new sysadmins say they just handle the operating system. It's no problem. I welcome learning new stuff. But there is a learning curve, even for the OS admins. Apache, by default, seems to be set up for administration by root directly. All the config files and scripts are 644 and owned by root:root. I'm not given the root password, naturally, so the OS admins must somehow give my ordinary OS user account all the rights necessary to edit Apache's config files, start and stop it, read its log files, and so on. Right now they're using a mix of: (1) giving me certain sudo rights, (2) adding me to certain groups, and (3) changing the file permissions of various directories, to make them writable by one of the groups I'm in. This never goes smoothly. There's always a back-and-forth between me and the sysadmins. They say it's ready. Then I try certain things, and half of them I still can't do. So they make some more changes. Then finally I seem to be independent and can administer Apache and the database without pestering them anymore. It's the sheer complication and amount of changes that make me uncomfortable. Even though it finally works, more or less, it seems hackneyed. I feel like we're doing it wrong. It seems like the makers of the software would have anticipated this scenario (someone other than root administering it) and have a clean two- or three-step program to delegate responsibility to me. But it feels like we are really chewing up the filesystem and making it far and away from the default set-up. Any suggestions? Are we doing it the recommended way? P.S. For PostgreSQL it seems a little better. Its files are owned by a system user named postgres. So giving me the right to run sudo su - postgres gives me just about everything. I'm just now getting into MySQL, but it seems to be set up similarly. But it seems a little weird doing all my work as another user.

  • ASP.NET List Control

    - by Ricardo Peres
    Today I developed a simple control for generating lists in ASP.NET, something that the base class library does not contain; it allows for nested lists where the list item types and images can be configured on a list by list basis. Since it was a great fun to develop, I'd like to share it here. Here is the code: [ParseChildren(true)] [PersistChildren(false)] public class List: WebControl { public List(): base("ul") { this.Items = new List(); this.ListStyleType = ListStyleType.Auto; this.ListStyleImageUrl = String.Empty; this.CommonCssClass = String.Empty; this.ContainerCssClass = String.Empty; } [DefaultValue(ListStyleType.Auto)] public ListStyleType ListStyleType { get; set; } [DefaultValue("")] [UrlProperty("*.png;*.gif;*.jpg")] public String ListStyleImageUrl { get; set; } [DefaultValue("")] [CssClassProperty] public String CommonCssClass { get; set; } [DefaultValue("")] [CssClassProperty] public String ContainerCssClass { get; set; } [Browsable(false)] [PersistenceModeAttribute(PersistenceMode.InnerProperty)] public List Items { private set; get; } protected override void Render(HtmlTextWriter writer) { String cssClass = String.Join(" ", new String [] { this.CssClass, this.ContainerCssClass }); if (cssClass.Trim().Length != 0) { this.CssClass = cssClass; } if (String.IsNullOrEmpty(this.ListStyleImageUrl) == false) { this.Style[ HtmlTextWriterStyle.ListStyleImage ] = String.Format("url('{0}')", this.ResolveClientUrl(this.ListStyleImageUrl)); } if (this.ListStyleType != ListStyleType.Auto) { switch (this.ListStyleType) { case ListStyleType.Circle: case ListStyleType.Decimal: case ListStyleType.Disc: case ListStyleType.None: case ListStyleType.Square: this.Style [ HtmlTextWriterStyle.ListStyleType ] = this.ListStyleType.ToString().ToLower(); } private void writeItem(ListItem item, Control control, Int32 depth) { HtmlGenericControl li = new HtmlGenericControl("li"); control.Controls.Add(li); if (String.IsNullOrEmpty(this.CommonCssClass) == false) { String cssClass = String.Join(" ", new String [] { this.CommonCssClass, this.CommonCssClass + depth }); li.Attributes [ "class" ] = cssClass; } foreach (String key in item.Attributes.Keys) { li.Attributes[key] = item.Attributes [ key ]; } li.InnerText = item.Text; if (item.ChildItems.Count != 0) { HtmlGenericControl ul = new HtmlGenericControl("ul");   • 10 Great Free Icon Packs To Theme Your Android Phone

    - by Chris Hoffman
    Android allows you to customize your home screen, adding widgets, arranging shortcuts and folders, choosing a background, and even replacing the included launcher entirely. You can install icon packs to theme your app icons, too. Third-party launchers use standard app icons by default, but they don’t have to. You can install icon packs that third-party launchers will use in place of standard app icons. How to Use Icon Packs To use icon packs, you’ll need to use a third-party launcher that supports them, such as Nova, Apex, ADW, Go Launcher, Holo Launcher, or Action Launcher Pro. Once you’re using a third-party launcher, you can install an icon pack and go into your launcher’s settings. You’ll find an option that allows you to choose between the icon packs you’ve installed. Many of these icon packs also include wallpapers, which you can set in the normal way. MIUI 5 Icons This icon pack offers over 1900 free icons that are similar to the icons used by the MIUi ROM developed by China’s Xiaomi Tech. The large list of icons is a big plus — this pack will give the majority of your app icons a very slick, consistent look. DCikonZ Theme DCikonZ is a free icon theme that includes a whopping 4000+ icons with a consistent look. This icon theme stands out not just because it’s huge, but also for offering for going in its own direction and avoiding the super-simple, flat look many icon packs use. Holo Icons Holo Icons replaces many app icons with simple, consistent-looking that match Google’s Holo style. If you’re a fan of Android’s Holo look, give it a try. It even tweaks many of the icons from Google’s own apps to make them look more consistent. Square Icon Pack Square Icon Pack turns your icons into simple squares. Even Google Chrome becomes an orb instead of a square. This makes every icon a consistent size and offers a unique look. The icons here almost look a bit like the small-size tiles available on Windows Phone and Windows 8.1. The free version doesn’t offer as many icons as the paid version, but it does offer icons for many popular apps. Rounded Want rounded icons instead? Try the Rounded icon theme, which offers simple rounded icons. The developer says they’re inspired by the consistently round icons used on Mozilla’s Firefox OS. Crumbled Icon Pack Crumbled Icon Pack applies an effect that makes icons look as if they’r crumbling. Rather than theming individual icons, Crumbled Icon Pack adds an effect to every app icon on your device. This means that all your app icons will be themed and consistent. Dainty Icon Pack Is your Android home screen too colorful? Dainty Icon Pack offers simple, gray-on-white icons for over 1200 apps. It’d be ideal over a simple background. The contrast may be a bit low here with the gray-on-white, but it’s otherwise very slick. Simplex Icons Simplex Icons offers more contrast, with black-on-gray icons. This icon pack could simplify busy home screens, allowing photographic wallpapers to come through. Min Icon Set Min attempts to go as minimal as possible, offering simple white icons for over 570 apps. It would be ideal over a simple wallpaper with app names hidden in your launcher, offering a calming, minimal home screen. For apps it doesn’t recognize, it will enclose part of the app’s icon in a white circle. Elegance Elegance goes in another direction entirely, offering icons that incorporate more details and gradients rather than going for minimalism. Its over 1200 icons offer another good option for people who aren’t into the minimal, flat look. Icon pack designers generally have to create and include their own icons to replace icons associated with specific apps, so you’ll probably find a few of your app icons aren’t replaced with most of these themes. Of course, a standard Android phone without an icon pack doesn’t have consistent icons, either. Even if all the icons in your app drawer aren’t themed, the few app icons you have on your home screen will be if you use widely used apps.

  • Talend Enterprise Data Integration overperforms on Oracle SPARC T4

    - by Amir Javanshir
    The SPARC T microprocessor, released in 2005 by Sun Microsystems, and now continued at Oracle, has a good track record in parallel execution and multi-threaded performance. However it was less suited for pure single-threaded workloads. The new SPARC T4 processor is now filling that gap by offering a 5x better single-thread performance over previous generations. Following our long-term relationship with Talend, a fast growing ISV positioned by Gartner in the “Visionaries” quadrant of the “Magic Quadrant for Data Integration Tools”, we decided to test some of their integration components with the T4 chip, more precisely on a T4-1 system, in order to verify first hand if this new processor stands up to its promises. Several tests were performed, mainly focused on: Single-thread performance of the new SPARC T4 processor compared to an older SPARC T2+ processor Overall throughput of the SPARC T4-1 server using multiple threads The tests consisted in reading large amounts of data --ten's of gigabytes--, processing and writing them back to a file or an Oracle 11gR2 database table. They are CPU, memory and IO bound tests. Given the main focus of this project --CPU performance--, bottlenecks were removed as much as possible on the memory and IO sub-systems. When possible, the data to process was put into the ZFS filesystem cache, for instance. Also, two external storage devices were directly attached to the servers under test, each one divided in two ZFS pools for read and write operations. Multi-thread: Testing throughput on the Oracle T4-1 The tests were performed with different number of simultaneous threads (1, 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, 32, 48 and 64) and using different storage devices: Flash, Fibre Channel storage, two stripped internal disks and one single internal disk. All storage devices used ZFS as filesystem and volume management. Each thread read a dedicated 1GB-large file containing 12.5M lines with the following structure: customerID;FirstName;LastName;StreetAddress;City;State;Zip;Cust_Status;Since_DT;Status_DT 1;Ronald;Reagan;South Highway;Santa Fe;Montana;98756;A;04-06-2006;09-08-2008 2;Theodore;Roosevelt;Timberlane Drive;Columbus;Louisiana;75677;A;10-05-2009;27-05-2008 3;Andrew;Madison;S Rustle St;Santa Fe;Arkansas;75677;A;29-04-2005;09-02-2008 4;Dwight;Adams;South Roosevelt Drive;Baton Rouge;Vermont;75677;A;15-02-2004;26-01-2007 […] The following graphs present the results of our tests: Unsurprisingly up to 16 threads, all files fit in the ZFS cache a.k.a L2ARC : once the cache is hot there is no performance difference depending on the underlying storage. From 16 threads upwards however, it is clear that IO becomes a bottleneck, having a good IO subsystem is thus key. Single-disk performance collapses whereas the Sun F5100 and ST6180 arrays allow the T4-1 to scale quite seamlessly. From 32 to 64 threads, the performance is almost constant with just a slow decline. For the database load tests, only the best IO configuration --using external storage devices-- were used, hosting the Oracle table spaces and redo log files. Using the Sun Storage F5100 array allows the T4-1 server to scale up to 48 parallel JVM processes before saturating the CPU. The final result is a staggering 646K lines per second insertion in an Oracle table using 48 parallel threads. Single-thread: Testing the single thread performance Seven different tests were performed on both servers. Given the fact that only one thread, thus one file was read, no IO bottleneck was involved, all data being served from the ZFS cache. Read File ? Filter ? Write File: Read file, filter data, write the filtered data in a new file. The filter is set on the “Status” column: only lines with status set to “A” are selected. This limits each output file to about 500 MB. Read File ? Load Database Table: Read file, insert into a single Oracle table. Average: Read file, compute the average of a numeric column, write the result in a new file. Division & Square Root: Read file, perform a division and square root on a numeric column, write the result data in a new file. Oracle DB Dump: Dump the content of an Oracle table (12.5M rows) into a CSV file. Transform: Read file, transform, write the result data in a new file. The transformations applied are: set the address column to upper case and add an extra column at the end, which is the concatenation of two columns. Sort: Read file, sort a numeric and alpha numeric column, write the result data in a new file. The following table and graph present the final results of the tests: Throughput unit is thousand lines per second processed (K lines/second). Improvement is the % of improvement between the T5140 and T4-1. Test T4-1 (Time s.) T5140 (Time s.) Improvement T4-1 (Throughput) T5140 (Throughput) Read/Filter/Write 125 806 645% 100 16 Read/Load Database 195 1111 570% 64 11 Average 96 557 580% 130 22 Division & Square Root 161 1054 655% 78 12 Oracle DB Dump 164 945 576% 76 13 Transform 159 1124 707% 79 11 Sort 251 1336 532% 50 9 The improvement of single-thread performance is quite dramatic: depending on the tests, the T4 is between 5.4 to 7 times faster than the T2+. It seems clear that the SPARC T4 processor has gone a long way filling the gap in single-thread performance, without sacrifying the multi-threaded capability as it still shows a very impressive scaling on heavy-duty multi-threaded jobs. Finally, as always at Oracle ISV Engineering, we are happy to help our ISV partners test their own applications on our platforms, so don't hesitate to contact us and let's see what the SPARC T4-based systems can do for your application! "As describe in this benchmark, Talend Enterprise Data Integration has overperformed on T4. I was generally happy to see that the T4 gave scaling opportunities for many scenarios like complex aggregations. Row by row insertion in Oracle DB is faster with more than 650,000 rows per seconds without using any bulk Oracle capabilities !" Cedric Carbone, Talend CTO.

    I have an Intenso 6002560 1TB Memory Station - an external hard disk. This hard disk gets connected via Y-USB cable. When I connect both USB-ends to my Notebook, it gets recognized by my Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS system: moose@pc07:~$ lsusb [...] Bus 002 Device 005: ID 13fd:1840 Initio Corporation [...] and Disk /dev/sda: 320.1 GB, 320072933376 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 38913 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disk identifier: 0x00065e10 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 * 1 37810 303704064 83 Linux /dev/sda2 37810 38914 8864769 5 Extended /dev/sda5 37810 38914 8864768 82 Linux swap / Solaris Disk /dev/sdc: 1000.2 GB, 1000204886016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 121601 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disk identifier: 0x0d6ea32a Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdc1 1 121601 976759008+ c W95 FAT32 (LBA) But it did not get mounted: moose@pc07:/dev$ mount -l /dev/sda1 on / type ext4 (rw,errors=remount-ro,user_xattr) proc on /proc type proc (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev) none on /sys type sysfs (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev) none on /sys/fs/fuse/connections type fusectl (rw) none on /sys/kernel/debug type debugfs (rw) none on /sys/kernel/security type securityfs (rw) none on /dev type devtmpfs (rw,mode=0755) none on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,noexec,nosuid,gid=5,mode=0620) none on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,nodev) none on /var/run type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,mode=0755) none on /var/lock type tmpfs (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev) none on /lib/init/rw type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,mode=0755) binfmt_misc on /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc type binfmt_misc (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev) gvfs-fuse-daemon on /home/moose/.gvfs type fuse.gvfs-fuse-daemon (rw,nosuid,nodev,user=moose) However, I could mount it manually with mount -t vfat /dev/sdc1 /mnt/sdc1 as you can see here: moose@pc07:~$ mount -l /dev/sda1 on / type ext4 (rw,errors=remount-ro,user_xattr) proc on /proc type proc (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev) none on /sys type sysfs (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev) none on /sys/fs/fuse/connections type fusectl (rw) none on /sys/kernel/debug type debugfs (rw) none on /sys/kernel/security type securityfs (rw) none on /dev type devtmpfs (rw,mode=0755) none on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,noexec,nosuid,gid=5,mode=0620) none on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,nodev) none on /var/run type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,mode=0755) none on /var/lock type tmpfs (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev) none on /lib/init/rw type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,mode=0755) binfmt_misc on /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc type binfmt_misc (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev) gvfs-fuse-daemon on /home/moose/.gvfs type fuse.gvfs-fuse-daemon (rw,nosuid,nodev,user=moose) /dev/sdc1 on /mnt/sdc1 type vfat (rw) edit: Another command: moose@pc07:~$ sudo blkid -o list device fs_type label mount point UUID ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /dev/sda1 ext4 / 45eb611b-517e-425b-8057-0391726cccd5 /dev/sda5 swap <swap> e9dc42f3-594c-4b62-874a-305eda5eed41 moose@pc07:~$ blkid -o list device fs_type label mount point UUID ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /dev/sda1 ext4 / 45eb611b-517e-425b-8057-0391726cccd5 /dev/sda5 swap <swap> e9dc42f3-594c-4b62-874a-305eda5eed41 /dev/sdc1 /mnt/sdc1 edit: another command: moose@pc07:~$ ls -l /dev/disk/by-uuid/ total 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 2012-09-30 09:31 45eb611b-517e-425b-8057-0391726cccd5 -> ../../sda1 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 2012-09-30 09:31 e9dc42f3-594c-4b62-874a-305eda5eed41 -> ../../sda5 Here is a link to a Launchpad question about this problem.   • Ubuntu 12.04 lightdm dumps to tty. Cannot start GUI interface when booting off harddrive, but can when booting off usb

    When booting, lightdm dumps to tty. No GUI interface works- this is after a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 where the GUI interface works when running off the USB. I have an NVIDIA Corporation G98 [Quadro NVS 420] graphics card. After I call startx from the terminal it still doesn't work. I get the following in the Xorg.0.log: [ 327.718] (--) NVIDIA(0): Memory: 262144 kBytes [ 327.718] (--) NVIDIA(0): VideoBIOS: 62.98.6f.00.07 [ 327.718] (II) NVIDIA(0): Detected PCI Express Link width: 16X [ 327.718] (--) NVIDIA(0): Interlaced video modes are supported on this GPU [ 327.756] (--) NVIDIA(0): Connected display device(s) on Quadro NVS 420 at PCI:3:0:0 [ 327.756] (--) NVIDIA(0): none [ 327.756] (EE) NVIDIA(0): No display devices found for this X screen.
