  This happens sometimes if the VM bumps up against upper limits of memory and has to hit swap heavily for extended periods (a few minutes or more). When this happens and I type asdf at the prompt it looks like: $ No command 'asdf' found, did you mean: Command 'asdfg' from package 'aoeui' (universe) Command 'sadf' from package 'sysstat' (main) Command 'sdf' from package 'sdf' (universe) asdf: command not found $ Note that asdf isn't showing up after $. The obvious answer is to just kill the tab and start a new one. Still, I have to wonder if there's a way to reset a bash terminal that is misbehaving like this. I tried bash and it didn't make any difference.

• Can't I just use all static methods?

  What's the difference between the two UpdateSubject methods below? I felt using static methods is better if you just want to operate on the entities. • Preventing indexing duplicate content by search engines

  I am in process of migrating my old domain (www.oldurl.com) to new domain (www.newurl.com). Almost all the content,URL structure as well database is same except for few URL's and only difference will be in the domain name. I have made entries in the Apache's .htaccess file to set 301 redirect and currently have blocked all search engines from crawling my new domain by setting in robot.txt file. I am not sure how i will handle the duplicate content issue as when i will make the new domain go live. Should i block search engines to index/crawl my old domain? i am new to this field and not sure if this is actually any duplicate content issue or not.

• Using multiple A-records for my domain - do web browsers ever try more than one?

  If I add multiple A-records for my domain, they are returned in a round robin order by DNS-servers. E.g: 1.1.1.1 A example.com 1.1.1.2 A example.com 1.1.1.3 A example.com But how does webbrowsers react if the first host (1.1.1.1) is down (unreachable)? do they try the second host (1.1.1.2) or do they return a error message to the user? Are there any difference between the most popular browsers? If I implement my own application, I can implement so that the second is used in case the first is down, so it's possible. And this would be very helpful to create a fault tolerant website.

  This question is a follow-up to Texture artifacts on iPad How does one "clear the alpha of the render texture frameBufferObject"? I've searched around here, StackOverflow and various search engines but no luck. I've tried a few things... for example calling GlClear(GL_COLOR_BUFFER_BIT) at the beginning of my render loop... but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Any help is appreciated since I'm still new to OpenGL. Cheers! p.s. I read on SO and in Apple's documentation that GlClear should always be called at the beginning of the renderLoop. Agree? Disagree? • Totem streams only certain video from iphone

  I recently installed a plug-in for Totem movie player. This allows the app to receive and play AirPlay-streamed video from iphone to totem player: http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2011/01/airplay-video-playback-comes-to-totem Actually this works fine with youtube videos. But when it comes to other apps in iPhone (such as Digital TV App) the streaming does not work. In the app I can choose Totem Player, but Totem Player itself stays empty, i.e. nothing will be streamed. As mentioned choosing Totem Player for youtube video works fine. Do you guys have any idea what makes the difference that it works only for youtube?

  I want to know how to make Windows the default boot OS in Ubuntu 11.10, how to make Windows boot first on GRUB2, specifically for Windows 7, which is my current version. I know that are some tutorials about this, but it seems that I made a mistake, so I'm asking. Luckily nothing serious happened. I didn't lose my data. The difference between my question and the tutorials is that the tutorials are from older version. Sorry for any disturbs and redundancy of the question. I'll love it better for a GUI app that making easy the boot. P.S: I forgot to say the version of my OS's I am running Windows 7 Home Premium X64 bit Ubuntu 11.10 X64 bit I hope this will make understand better because I now saw it a tutorial that for 64 bit versions Startup-Manager doesn't work.

This may work in C# because it is case-sensitive but if try to use that C# code in VB.NET, it is not possible because VB.NET is not case-sensitive. Based on above text I want to confirm two points here: Does the case-sensitivity of IL is a condition for member functions only, and not for member properties? Is it true that C# wouldn't be inter-operable with VB.NET if it didn't take care of the case sensitivity?

  When I worked in Microsoft on MSE antivirus, we had several stages of pre-release: Alpha, Beta, RC. The biggest difference between these stages were bug fixes. Each time we fixed more bugs, and usually updated some minor features. Apple works in the same way. Why do these big companies work like this?   I'm desperately trying to install ubuntu 12.10 64bit on my new Ultrabook. Its a Sony T13 with 8gb ram, 256gb ssd, i7, windows 8. I have an extra partition, D: "UBUNTU" already created with about 30gb space using FAT32. Ubuntu is MD5 checked, on a previously working USB stick using UNetBootin. Grub loads fine When I ask to test out Ubuntu ("Try ubuntu without installing") it shows the purple loading screen for a bit then brings up this error in a busybox terminal: initramfs - Unable to find a medium containing a live file system Things I've tried that don't work: Different versions of Linux (Fedora, Arch, SL, even gParted) Using USB2/3 - No difference Legacy or UEFI - different interface, but same error BIOS has no option for anything "ACHI" related I have read through tons of other people having this problem and diligently tried all the above solutions, with no luck.

• How do I start VNC Server on boot?

  How do I create a system-wide autostart file? This would be on a cloud server running the desktop version of Maverick. I logged in as root and created an autostart file using System/Preferences/StartupApplications but it ended up in /root/.config/autostart and did not execute (as far as I can tell) upon rebooting. The autostart file is to invoke a bash script that invokes the VNC server. I copied the .desktop autostart file from /root/.config/autostart to /etc/xdg/autostart and rebooted. This did not seem to make a difference.

• Block elements vs inline elements in HTML: why the distinction?

  The distinction between block and inline elements always seemed strange to me. The whole difference is that a block element takes up the entire width thus forcing a line break before and after the element, and an inline element only takes up as much as the content. Why not just have one type of element- an inline element where you can also apply custom height/width, and use that? You want line breaks? Insert a <br />, or maybe add a special tag in the CSS for that behavior. The way it's now, I don't see it solving any problem, and instead it only forces a property that in my opinion should be decided by a designer. So why the two types?

• ubuntu is very slow

  Hello all. I am new with Ubuntu, and it is very slow(even in Ubuntu 2D). The performance is degraded for almost any task. I just reinstalled with amd64, and tried updating the Nvidia drivers with Nvidia Xserver. but it made no difference. This is the output of free -m: total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 3006 1318 1688 0 61 699 -/+ buffers/cache: 556 2449 Swap: 3064 0 3064 tl;dr - total: 3006, used: 1318 When I see the virtual console with Ctrl+Alt+F2, I see constantly: Assuming Drive Cache: write through; asking for cache data failed; It is very frustrating.   Is there any difference between the two topics? I have seen companies asking for Good Programming knowledge some Good Programming logic. I believe that Programming knowledge is related to knowledge about the language in consideration and Programming logic is problem solving logic using programming (in general). Please correct me if I am wrong. Also what is more important. Edit: Do selection of components for application, designing interfaces validating user inputs fall under programming knowledge or Programming logic? Does programming logic simply imply problem solving, or is there anything else which it should comprise of?

• How can I fix 'no wubildr' error in WUBI on Windows 7?

  Good Evening All, I just got my HP Laptop Back from the factory and then I tried to install Ubuntu. It got through the whole installation, however, when I restarted and chose Ubuntu a quick screen flashes that says: Try (hd0,0) NTFS5: no wubildr Try (hd0,1) NTFS5: Then it quickly goes to the Boot Loader which I am presented with: Windows 7 (loader) (on /dev/sda1) Windows Vista (loader) (on /dev/sda2) Windows Vista (loader) (on /dev/sda3) Of course if I click Win 7 it'll go to the main screen to choose between Win 7 or Ubuntu, if I choose Vista, it'll come with an error of sorts. The strange thing is, I looked in my C:/ Drive and I see wubildr and wubilder.mbr Idk if it makes a difference but I am running a 64-bit processor. Installed the 64-bit desktop version and am presented with ultra-fail. I've gone to: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?s=4d54a8d3760f6fe805156524b7ab9acf&t=798283&page=1 But have had no luck.

  I have table with all countries GMT/UTC timezones, I need to see what time is in the rest of the countries when in USA is 11am-3pm Not on particular date just know the difference in time. I did my calculation like that I -5 GMT in USA and time is 11am then in Russia for example is +4 GMT. 5+4+11=20pm in Russia when USA is 11am, this works with countries that have + GMT zone but ones that have minus it shows wrong time. I am working in Excel please help me with advice on how to do it.

• Delta-update Firefox Aurora package from PPA

  I am using Firefox Aurora in my Ubuntu 12.04 which I have installed via its ppa (ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/firefox-aurora). As expected of Aurora, I get an update usually after 2-3 days. I have Firefox Aurora installed in Windows too. There also I get updates in 2-3 days but size of update is usually 4-5 MB, while in Ubuntu it's always around 20 MB. What is the reason for this difference? Is there any way by which I can download and install only the changes and not the entire Aurora again and again?

• Avoid if statements in DirectX 10 shaders?

  I have heard that if statements should be avoid in shaders, because both parts of the statements will be execute, and than the wrong will be dropped (which harms the performance). It's still a problem in DirectX 10? Somebody told me, that in it only the right branch will be execute. For the illustration I have the code: float y1 = 5; float y2 = 6; float b1 = 2; float b2 = 3; if(x>0.5){ x = 10 * y1 + b1; }else{ x = 10 * y2 + b2; } Is there an other way to make it faster? If so, how do it? Both branches looks similar, the only difference is the values of "constants" (y1, y2, b1, b2 are the same for all pixels in Pixel Shader).

• What's special about currying or partial application?

  I've been reading articles on Functional programming everyday and been trying to apply some practices as much as possible. But I don't understand what is unique in currying or partial application. Take this Groovy code as an example: def mul = { a, b -> a * b } def tripler1 = mul.curry(3) def tripler2 = { mul(3, it) } I do not understand what is the difference between tripler1 and tripler2. Aren't they both the same? The 'currying' is supported in pure or partial functional languages like Groovy, Scala, Haskell etc. But I can do the same thing (left-curry, right-curry, n-curry or partial application) by simply creating another named or anonymous function or closure that will forward the parameters to the original function (like tripler2) in most languages (even C.) Am I missing something here? There are places where I can use currying and partial application in my Grails application but I am hesitating to do so because I'm asking myself "How's that different?" Please enlighten me.
