• Why is IE7 hiding my overflow when, as far as I can tell, all it's containing elements have overflow

  If you visit the site in question (haddongrant.com) and go to the Artwork section, if you click on an image and view it's stack in Safari, Chrome or Firefox you'll notice the images extend up and down the page, eventually disappearing over the edge. This is what you should be seeing. In Internet Explorer 7, however, the overflow gets cut off at some point before it ever gets to the end of the page. The problem is... I can't tell where! I've had a look and every containing element should show overflow. I don't know why IE7 isn't. Does anyone have any ideas where I might need to add an overflow-y:visible;?

• .NET AxWebBrowser can't open page "Navigation to the webpage was canceled" error

  Oh, I am stuck again on this quiet annoying problem. I am trying to do a little automated browsing using the axWebBrowser component and it worked before. Now all of a sudden I get the following message when I try to browse to a page. Navigation to the webpage was canceled What you can try: Refresh the page. I totally disabled my firewall, ran VS2008 in Administrator mode, I even installed IE8 all to no avail. By the way IE8 doesn't work either. I don't know if the problem is related but all I get when I put a URL into IE8 is this message. Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage I don't so much mind that, I just really need to get my visual studio axWebBrowser working.

• Registry corrupted for testing?

  Hi. Forgive my ignorance. I'm a lowly LAMP stack developer and this is my first post for "c++". We had an Internet Explorer add-on commissioned but then lost support. Allegedly each version has to be have been tested "on a fresh computer since old add-ons could have cause registry errors." I'm not familiar with IE add-on development (or c++ dev). Is this common? Can't one simply reverse registry errors? How to continue testing iterations on one machine? Thanks!

• What HTTP headers do I need to stream an ASF file?

  I have a simple PHP script that will either serve up a streaming ASF file or not, depending on whether you're logged in and have access to the file. It basically does this: <?php header('Content-Type: video/x-ms-asf'); header('Content-Disposition: inline; filename="file.asf"'); readfile('file.asf'); ?> This already works fine in Firefox; when you navigate to this file it starts the video streaming right away. But Internet Explorer is a different story. When I go to this link in IE, it consistently tries to download the file as if it were an attachment rather than streaming it in the browser. What I am missing that IE's getting hung up on?

• jquery ui modal dialog problems in IE

  I use jquery ui dialog widget. Everything works fine in FF, Opera etc., except IE. The problem is that when dialog is opened in Internet Explorer, some space (not covered with that "modal gray layer") is added at the bottom of the document, and page is scrolled to the bottom. So I don't even see the dialog, I have to scroll up, to see it fully. Anyone had that problems? Any solutions? EDIT: now I see, that this "bottom space" is also added in FireFox, but it doesn't scroll to it like in IE.

  Recently i have some problems accessing websites. When i try to access it says This webpage is not available. I tried accessing the site through FireFox, Internet Explorer and Chrome. I also tried with using a web proxy but still the same problem. This problem is only in my Desktop PC, all the websites works fine in my laptop Currently i cant access, yahoo.com download.com bing.com proxy.org daniweb.com aol.com and many forums I check with the host file but nothing is blocked in that. • Where can I take an online programming aptitude test/exam?

  A potential employer requires me to take an online aptitude test before my interview (in this case the test is for C, from Previsor). Where can I take the same (or similar) test so I have a rough idea on what I should brush up on? I've taken a similar test for C++ previously, so I have some idea of what to expect. I've also been studying my C books thoroughly (especially the required material as described in the PDF), but I feel it would be a good idea to get a feel for the particular test before taking it. I did a quick search on Brainbench, but they don't seem to have a C test, unless I'm mistaken (only C++). Note: I'm happy to pay to take a test if no decent free ones are available.

• [IE 7/8] Loading HTML content in via Javascript nulls my <title> tag in some instances

  This is an Explorer only problem and the symptoms are: I have links that when clicked will load in HTML chunks (none of which contain html header tags) using javascript. The html chunks are placed in various <div>s around the page, perhaps 3 different places with 3 different chunks brought in via javascript. When these chunks load in the <title> tag of the page gets set to <title></title> for some unknown (to me) reason. I've used the IE developer toolbar to confirm this by inspecting the DOM tree. I have other pages that do similar things but it does not seem to be a problem there.

  I've implemented a jquery counter script (count up from say 50 to 100 with different increments) that I found from this question: jQuery counter to count up to a target number The scripts works great except for in Internet Explorer 8 (and possibly other IE versions?). Here's an error message from IE with the URL to the creator of the script's demo. Message: 'undefined' is null or not an object Line: 32 Char: 17 Code: 0 URI: http://www.ulmanen.fi/stuff/counter.php I'm just wondering if anyone know how this can be fixed. I'm guessing it has to do with el.html() not finding any data but I can't really figure this out. • How can I start a TCP server in the background during a Perl unit test?

  I am trying to write a unit test for a client server application. To test the client, in my unit test, I want to first start my tcp server (which itself is another perl file). I tried to start the TCP server by forking: if (! fork()) { system ("$^X server.pl") == 0 or die "couldn't start server" } So when I call make test after perl Makefile.PL, this test starts and I can see the server starting but after that the unit test just hangs there. So I guess I need to start this server in background and I tried the & at the end to force it to start in background and then test to continue. But, I still couldn't succeed. What am I doing wrong? • Secure web service works in Firefox but not in IE7

  I am trying to call a C# web service from one data center to another. I am able to load the web service properly in Firefox 3.6.3 but it does not load at all in Internet Explorer 7. When I try to install the application which relies on this web service, it can't find the web service at all, just like IE7. Is there any setting or configuration that would allow one browser to load it properly but not the other? I suspect that there's no firewall or that sort of problem because the web service loads for at least one browser.

• How can I detect if the Solution is initializing using the DTE in a VisualStudio extension?

  I am using the DTE to track when projects are loaded and removed from the solution so that I can update a custom Test Explorer extension. I then trigger a container discovery process. But when the solution is first loaded it does an asynchronous load of some projects and fires a lot of Project Added events. What I would really like to do is to ignore all of these events until the solution is done loading. I can't quite figure out the order of events such that I know for sure that this initialization process has completed. It would be really nice to be able to just query the solution object and ask it. Does anyone know if there is a property or interface or event that I can use to determine this?

  I need to create a simple application/script able to list the hierarchy of a folder containing subfolders and files (mostly PDF), so that a user can browse easily these files and maybe have a quick preview of them. The files are all on an internal file server, so the dynamic aspects should all be client-sided. My goal (and what my boss want) is to provide some sort of an HTML page listing, to have something like this. The only problem I have now is that I cannot install anything on computers, so I cannot use PHP, Python, ... This application will only runs on Windows in Internet Explorer. What are the different possibilities I have ? I don't know if I can do this but I was thinking of using HTML + Flex. Thanks for helping.

  The application do not need any window or console. It can be a console application if the console window can be removed or can be put into background. The application will do some simple tasks(such as cleaning rubbish files) and exit. I hope that the application should not be a windows service if possible. I hope that the application can be started with double-click in explorer window and run silently. When the application is running, I hope that the mouse cursor should not be changed to hourglass shape. That is to say, do not disturb the user when the application is running. In other browsers the iframe gets resized, because the onload event fires each time. I'm using IE8 but the outer page is setting it to IE7 compatibility mode. Is there a workaround for IE?

  Hi. I have a table with some columns. Something like this: tr1td1 one remove button tr1td2 one remove button ... The table has the size of the div#outer When I click remove button I remove with jquery the entire column . In Firefox everything's fine the table's columns resize to fill the div but in Internet Explorer the table's columns remain just as they are. It's like the browser doesn't refresh the css style. Because if I refresh the page the table looks just as it shoud be. Any ideas?

Lately Internet Explorer versions earlier than version 9 are running painfully slow and I want to be able to monitor what parts of a page load (including scripts) that are slow. I know that IE are slower in general and has DOM API issues etc. What I want to accomplish is a way to quickly identify slow parts and see if we can replace the code with IE specific code that will render with higher performance. • Rails 2.3.5 table populated by fixtures at end of test run rather than at start

  I start with a test database containing the schema but with no data in the tables. I run a test like so cd test/ ruby unit/directive_test.rb I get failures indicating that the code found no data in the data tables. However, I look at the tables after running that test and the data is now in the the table. In fact, if I immediately run the test again I get no failures. So it appears that the fixture is being loaded into the table too late for one of my modules to find it. When are the fixtures loaded? After or before the app/model/*.rb files are executed? If it is after the models are executed is there a way to delay the loading? This issue is also relevant when running rake test:units since that task clears the test data after it finished.

• Javascript data parsing in IE vs other browsers... It seems kinda screwed up. What's the deal?

  Firstly, when I say other browsers I really only mean Firefox because that's all I tested in. Internet Explorer can parse a date followed by a single character as a proper date. Whereas Firefox behaves as I'd expect. For example... var dateString = new Date("1/1/2010f"); alert(dateString); In IE it will alert... Thu Dec 31 21:00:00 UTC-0900 2009 Whereas in FF is will spit out... "Invalid Date" I first noticed this using the jquery validation plug in. http://docs.jquery.com/Plugins/Validation/Methods/date It seems like it just subtracts some amount of hours off the actual date in IE when a character is appended. I've tested in IE6 and IE8. Am I missing something?
