    I am trying to replicate this fix ( http://sebduggan.com/posts/ie6-gzip-bug-solved-using-isapi-rewrite ) with Apache mod_rewrite, but with no success... Can somebody help me translate those ISAPI rules to APACHE mod_rewrite? I don't know how to 'translate' those rules...   • Embed Javascript Module within Flex application

    I have a large module written in JS which uses Canvas to draw and animate trees. This module was written for a product which is now being migrated to flex. Is there a way in flex to embed this JS module as is? Or would I have to rewrite the whole module in AS3 (shudder)?     This is probably really stupid but i can't find the problem with my code. It fetches a url that returns json and the function is then supposed to return a string: function getit() { var ws_url = 'example.com/test.js'; var user = false; $.getJSON(ws_url, function(data) { alert('user '+data.user);//shows john user = data.user || false; } ); return user;//should return john but returns false } test.js will have something like this: {"id":"12","username":"ses","user":"john","error":""} or like this: {"error":"123"} I also tried if(data.user){}else{} but it didn't work either.. So what am i missing? Thanks :)

  • How do I set up mod rewrite to do this?

    Hi guys heres the scene - I'm building a web application which basically creates accounts for all users. Currently its setup like this the file structure: root/index.php root/someotherfile.php root/images/image-sub-folder/image.jpg root/js/somejs.js When users create an account they choose a fixed group name and then users can join that group. Initially I thought of having an extra textbox in the login screen to enter the group the user belongs to login to. BUt I would like instead to have something like virtual folders in this case: root/group-name/index.php I heard it can be done with apache mod rewrite but I'm not sure how to do this - any help here? Basically instead of having something like &group-name=yourGroupName appended to every page I would just like something of the nature above.

  • Dojo load time extremely slow on iis

    I am currently working on a project that is using Dojo as the js framework. Its a rather rich ui and as such is using (and thus loading) a lot of different .js files for the dojo plug-ins When run on an apache server running on a mac, the files (all around 1k) are served very quickly (1 or 2 ms) and the page loads pretty fast (<5 seconds) When run on IIS on Win 7, the files are served at an unbelievably slow rate (150ms - 1s), thus causing the page to take up to 3 minutes to load. I have searched the internet to try to find a solution and have come up empty. Anyone have any ideas?

    I recently came across fancy box located here, I've followed every step in the instructions perfectly, but it doesn't work, anyone know what might be the problem?   • Video not playing in IE in hidden div using JW Player, SWFObject and FancyZoom

    Hi all, I have a video that is meant to start playing when a user clicks on an image and said image opens a FancyZoom overlay. It works fine in every browser except IEs. If I place the video in a div that is not hidden (display:none actually), the video starts as expected. So it seems there is a problem with either Flash, JW Player, SWFObject or any combination of these when trying to load a video in a hidden div. Anyone know any workarounds? I tried modifying the FancyZoom library (see my fork: http://github.com/lgomez/fancy-zoom/blob/master/prototype/js/fancyzoom.js) so I could use a callback to inject the video AFTER the zoom effect was completed but that did'n work. Thanks!

    Hi, I've trying to use the draggable effect on some divs on a page, but whenever I load the page, I get the error message: Error: $(".draggable").draggable is not a function I've had a look around it seemed other people were having this problem as they had not included the jQuery UI javascript file, but I definitely have.     I am writing a plugin which does some js stuff, but does not work for other browsers than FF . I've thought why not execute the plugin for the browsers which support it. I've added the code, but for some reason when I activate the plugin and check the site with a FF all I get is blank page. If I visit with a IE the site is shown correctly.   • Confusing rails div id naming

    I have started using jQuery and rails. I have made a simple form that submits to the database and updates the page without reloading with ajax. In my jQuery functions I used $"#new_comment" for the id name (in my application.js and create.js.erb files) but on my articles/show view file, I named the div "add_comment" and it works.. I renamed it new_comment and it breaks! Can someone explain it please? I get an error: "no action responded to 1" My function in my controller is "create".

    I need to attach a single event handler to multiple DOM elements using jQuery. I'm currently achieving this using jQuery's each() method. See below: $([elm1, elm2, elm3]).each(function() { this.click(eventHandler); }); I was wondering if there is a way to do this without using the each method and closure. I thought I would be able to do something like: $(elm1, elm2, elm3).click(eventHandler); This kind of statement works using Prototype.js but not in jQuery.The reason I ask the question is because after using both Prototype.js and jQuery I have found that jQuery requires simpler statements to achieve the same tasks in almost every area so I assume there must be a better way of doing this?

    My rails app is about to go live and I'm trying to figure out how to create a widget based on data on the site. My Javascript is not too hot--limited to the O'reilly head first book on JS. I can read simple Javascript okay but when it comes to writing it I'm a little lost. That said, I hope to roll out a widget, maybe a wordpress plugin too soon after my app is launched. Does anyone know of any rails plugins, javascript templates, tutorials or books that can get me going?     Recently there is a lot of projects that pushes Javascript into other directions: as a general purpose scripting language (GLUEScript, Rhino), as an extension language (QTScript, Adobe Reader, OO Macros), Widgets (Yahoo Widgets, MS Gadgets, Dashboard), and even server-side JS & web frameworks (CommonJS, Helma, Phobos, V8cgi), which seems obvious since it is already a language widely used for web development. But wait, everything is so new and nothing is really mature. However JS is around for almost 15 years, being as powerfull as any other scripting languages, being standardised by the ECMA, and being a mandatory technology for web development. Why did it take so much time to gain acceptance into other domains than web browsers?

    Hi, i have a page with the main content area being big thumbnails, but elsewhere on the page are about 100-200 other (smaller) thumbs that are not important but must still show. What ways do i have to make the main ones show first (or the unimportant ones show last)? I was thinking of these ways: JS load: on page load (once it has finished loading), use a jquery's append() (or whatever other way) to write the html with the image code Set all unimportant images inside a div with style="display:none;". Then once the page has loaded, use JS to set it as visible what do you think is the best way?

  • Evaluating php generated javascript "inline"?

    If you look at the source of this page http://kingston.talking-newspapers.co.uk/ you will see a large amount of inline javascript near the top. I don't really want all this extra stuff floating around in my page source, I'd much rather get it off into a script tag, and then I can minify it and all sorts. If I call it as a php file, this SHOULD work in theory, I just end the js file extension with php instead, and in the header I put the following: header("Content-type:application/x-javascript"); but... a lot of the php variables used to generate the playlist within the javascript are setup at the beginning of the main index.php file, and in calling this php-generated js playlist file like this, it seems to evaluate it entirely separately, so it's full of errors. The only way round it I can think of is to have the page write a file, then immediately read it in. The other thing is, the playlist is likely to change often and dynamically, so I think I need to get minify to NOT cache it?

  • Mootools not loading fast enough IE6

    Very random and annoying problem with IE6. We keep our common JS files on a resources server so we only have to update them in one place. As well as our custom classes we also keep our build of mootools and more on the resources server and link to it in the head of our sites. This is fine in all the browsers accept IE6. In IE6 it seems to not loads the core quick enough from the external link before trying to process the mootools code in my site.js file. It will go wrong on the first line "windows.addEvent". If i put a mootools core in a folder where the site is though its fine. Does anyone know why it might be doing this and if so a way around it, but still keeping the files on the resources domain?     I am experimenting with Rails and was wondering what's needed to allow/add support for JSON requests? I have a vanilla installation of Rails 2.3.5 and the default scaffolding seem to provide support for HTML & XML requests but not JSON. class EventsController < ApplicationController # GET /events # GET /events.xml def index @events = Event.all respond_to do |format| format.html # index.html.erb format.xml { render :xml => @events } end end # GET /events/1 # GET /events/1.xml def show @event = Event.find(params[:id]) respond_to do |format| format.html # show.html.erb format.xml { render :xml => @event } end end ... I'm new to this but it would appear as though i would need to add a format line in each method along the lines of: format.js { render :js => @event.json } couldn't this be done automatically? perhaps there's a template somewhere i need to update...or a flag i can set? Or perhaps, and most likely, I've missed the boat entirely?!?

When I ran this tool for my app, in the YSlow grade tab it showed up a issue 'Grade F on Compress components with gzip'. Seems to be that we need to compress the files(js, css) while sending from the server to client to increase the server response time. My app is a Struts Java application. Can anyone let me know how to compress and send the front end UI files(JS,CSS) from server so that the response time increases and my pages lot fastly? What are the things that I need to do to compress these files in Java at server?
