I've installed Ubuntu 12.04.1 in a new server and set up the 4 hard drives with 3 RAID 1 devices, the configuration is such that the first two drives have md0 (swap space) and md1 (/) with the third and fourth drives having md2 (/var).
I've been testing the operation under a drive failure and found that the system boots fine if I remove disk two but if I remove disk one then the system gets to grub and then just restarts. I'm confused as to why grub appears to be loading properly from disk two but then the boot fails.
When clicking on the Clock applet (Clock version 2.26.0) in Gnome (Ubuntu Jaunty) a calendar is shown. Each week starts on Sunday, but I want Monday as starting day. How can I achieve this?
What's a good C and GDK+ 2 integrated development environment (IDE) for developing in Ubuntu?
Please state Pros and Cons for each suggestion.
Notes:
I'm used to using Visual C++ for Windows and C++
On Linux, I usually use gcc and vi (I'd want something friendlier than GDB)
Thanks

I am setting up a generic Ubuntu server and am trying to figure out the (best) way to partition the machine. Again, this is just a generic one:
The default drive is 20GB.
Some guides show:
Separate /home, /usr, /var and /tmp partitions
Another one suggested something like this:
/ 4GB
/boot 512MB
/tmp 1GB
/home 5GB
/usr 5GB
/var 5GB
What is the best way to accomplish this?
I've just installed Ubuntu 9.10 Edition in VMWare Fusion; the host is Mac OS X. I installed it successfully and I was even able to use. After shutting it down and reopening it, it no longer works. Here's what I see:
I've checked the Virtual Machine settings. It appears as running. I waited for a long time, but there no response yet. Is there anything I can do apart from reinstalling it?

I have an Ubuntu Virtualbox guest with two network interface, eth0 (NAT) and eth1 (bridged).
I want to connect to a PPTP VPN using eth1, but I don't know how to specify which interface to use. If i just try:
sudo pon myvpn nodetach
It fails with:
Using interface ppp0
Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/1
Modem hangup
Connection terminated.
Looking at routes with route seems to indicate that eth0 is being used:
x.x.x.x.no 10.0.2.2 255.255.255.255 UGH 0 0 0 eth0

Hi everyone,
I run Ubuntu, and If i type the following in a terminal, I start a new instance of memcached, right?
# memcached -vv
How can I target the the current instance of memcached in terminal?
It would help me to see the very-verbose mode on my already running instance.
Thanks
I currently have Ubuntu and I downloaded Windows 7 because I want change to that. But when I put the installation dvd in it starts up fine but when I start to install an error message comes:

Hi everyone,
I'm still a bit of a freshie on Ubuntu and linux in general, so please bare with me.

Is that possible in any way, or does it requres a degree in some to-me-unknown compiling rocket science?
Thanks!
I don't know why but ubuntu 9.10 is not showing up one of the partitions in my portable hdd.
Only the 2nd partition is shown. And I can't find the 1st one.
What might be a solution to this?
My Ubuntu 8.10 crashed due to the overheating problem of the CPU. After reboot, under gnome, all the files cannot be removed, their properties cannot be viewed and they can only be opened, although all are still fine under terminal. I was wondering why is that and how can I fix it?
Thanks and regards

I wanted to ask if anyone have tried it or have any inputs on the idea
Im looking for wirless N cards that will work in Ubuntu, and has the cards firmware already uploaded. I have been looking for a while but I cant really find any good ones. (NO D-LINK)
As a learning experience I recently downloaded and set up Ubuntu 10.4 Server edition. When I logged in for the first time, all I saw was a terminal. I stared blankly at the screen, wondering what in the world do I do from here.
That's my question. How do I configure a server and maintain it from the terminal? Tutorials, books, guides, things like that would be the most useful. Thanks!
How can I verify if a ssh public key is successfully installed on a Ubuntu server?
I'm trying to unable continuos deployment and to do so I need to install the public key I got from codeship on the server.
I have copied the key I got on the server at ~/.ssh/authorized_keys/id_rsa.pub
and restarted ssh but I'm still not able to deploy my app so as first debugging step I'd like to make sure the public key is properly installed on the server.
Thanks.
