• How to Map a CSV or Tab Delimited File to MySQL Multi-Table Database [migrated]

  I've got a pretty substantial XLS file a client provided 830 total tabs/sheets. I've designed a multi table database with PHPMyAdmin (MySQL obviously) to house the information that's in there, and have populated about 5 of those sheets by hand to ensure the data will fit into the designed database. Is there a piece of software or some sort of tool that will help me format this XLS document and map it to the right places in the database?

  I have been creating a blog and now its almost done. I am thinking of adding fonts to it. I am curious if having more than 1 font in a website makes it look unprofessional? I understand that it is a personal opinion of a person how the site should look but my site is a blog so I want to consider how visitors might feel seeing multiple fonts on a website. Does it look standard? In short: How many fonts should one use so that readability does not get affected? Thanks in advance.

I really did not care about seo while I was building the website so I guess my website has quite a 'bad reputation' for Google search. My website is almost finished and I am planning to launch it soon but would like to tell Google to forget everything it nows about it and start everything over. What's the correct way for doing it? • Could not log-in properly but shows no error in joomla

What happens is when I log-in using the user with uploaded photo, it's not redirecting properly it just return to log-in, but when i log-in through backend using other user which is super admin, i could see that user which appears as logged in. I started saving the images in the database because I am having problem with the directory when I have uploaded the site. I think the log-in was affected by the blob type data in the database. Could that be the problem? What could be the solution? -saeha

• Editable block: CMS or PHP script?

  I'm designing a Website for a restaurant. The site will be fairly static except for a 'specials' block which the client will need to update on a daily basis. I'm more of a designer/front-end developer so I was wondering if I was better off trying to make a block editable in PHP (a language I hardly ever deal with) or just create the website in a user-friendly CMS such as Wordpress (which I have some experience with) or Expression Engine (which I have no experience with but I'm told is a favorite in the design community)... certainly not Drupal, because even though I have theming experience with it, I think it would be a little overkill for just one editable block in a five-page site. I'm leaning towards an easy to use CMS because I'm really just not comfortable writing my own PHP especially since I guess a PHP solution would also require an authentication solution so only the client could get in to edit their info. Any insight would be appreciated!

  I am getting a 403 when i access http://mayfieldafc.local/ upon looking in the apache logs i am getting [Wed Nov 16 12:32:59 2011] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] Symbolic link not allowed or link target not accessible: /var/www I have what i believe to be the correct permissions set on /var/www. hutber can create and delete files, hutber being my user. I can also execute as program on this folder. in mayfields vhost its: <Directory /var/www/mayfieldafc/docroot> Options +FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> I am pulling my hair out not being able to work on my sites with my work ubuntu install. I know of nothing else that could be effecting this. So any ideas?

• Making fonts render similarly across browsers

  I am building a website for a client, and we had hoped to use plain text, not images in the navigation bar. The font we are using is Century Gothic (I believe that this font is available on the majority of PCs and Macs) The problem is, that on different browsers the font renders significantly differnt. In Chrome we got it looking the way we want, but in firefox the text is smaller and bolder. Aside from writing browser specific javascript to alter the font properties, are there any other options to standardize the way the fonts are rendered cross-browser. Perhaps some library or API? Maybe its a matter of being more specific in declaring font properties? Honestly I am stuck and need help.

  Nowadays your site is not in fashion if you don't show at least a couple of share buttons like these: Is this just fashion, or do people actually get something good out of it? When I say "something good" I mostly mean something that you could measure, and not just the feeling that was good. Maybe I can better explain with an example: did you notice (in some way) that many people clicked on those links to share your page/s on those web 2.0 social sites? And in such a case on which social networks did you see they mostly share your pages? BTW I'm not talking about Google PR, i know all web 2.0 social sites use nofollow everywhere and even hidden links, so they are useless by themselves for PR. UPDATE: According to this video, Google's Alter Ego says that they now use in some way data from social sites in ranking. If this is true, it's obvious that the Share on button for FB, Tweet, etc are definitely of some values. But again my question is more about what you noticed in your real experience to be a direct benefit of adding those type of "Share On" links on your webisite? I.e. did you see more traffic coming in form FB, or some users who bought your products because of FB or Twitter? Or any other benefits? Thanks

  Sometimes it's very confusing how Sharepoint 2010 group creation works Here's a scenario we have been facing from a long time wrt groups in SharePoint 2010 We had requirement of creating a two custom groups followed by creating a custom site through programmatically, For the most case the scenario works as how it is excepted to work. but, out of 1/100 site creation process the groups creation fails, which means we were able to access the group and users associated with it through programmatically. but, when it comes to UI stand point if you try to access the specific group page from the site permissions page - SharePoint returns a BLANK WHITE Page... BLANK WHITE Page... nothing else... Ain't is this a Sharepoint 2010 issue. or anybody had this problem and fixed it. Kindly share your thoughts

  I am busy writing a WordPress plugin. Now most users have cache plugins installed, they cache the pages. I know also some webservers as nginx have php caching and whatnot. There are also things like memcached. Now I have to admit I do not know exactly how they work, if anyone have some good links on how they work I would be glad. Some links where it's explained simple, not to technical. Now the question. My plugin displays different statistics on posts, they are always different, will this break the caching of the page. To take is a step further, sometimes the statistics of the post needs updating, and there is a small javascript snippet added to the page. Now will these two action result in the page not caching, or am I ok.

  I have not been able to find a clear issue on omitting reviews from Microdata. I understand that Microdata values for reviews will default to a certain number when omitted, but I was wondering if it would be correct/acceptable to completely omit the review node completely. I can see where reviews and average "star" ratings would be of help to the end user, especially for things like recipes. However, what if there are no reviews for a product or application? To be completely clear - let's isolate this question to only software applications or extensions. What if a particular piece of software or extension was not featured on an "app store" or other site that provided reviews? Wouldn't the formats still be helpful by providing version number, download URL, compatible software - etc? Sorry for the lengthy background, but I just don't understand why it seems that reviews must be part of a Microdata markup. Or, am I wrong in this assumption?

  I have a search based navigation web-site. Each query has filters as well as sort-by. The search results point to end-pages inside the site. Each of those pages has many outlinks to other end-pages. Currently I have a XML sitemap which directs crawlers to all the end pages. I'm trying to add a silo sitemap directory to improve SEO. Assuming this is the right direction I have a couple of options: end pages sorted alphabetically. Pages by major search filters, and then divide alphabetically. Pages for every filter and cross option between them and the sort-by. Which would you recommend and why?

• Log oddities: 404s for client-garbled image URLs

  I've noticed some odd 404s which appear to be broken URL rewriting code: Our deep zoom view generates images URLs like this: /media/204/service/dzi/1/1_files/7/0_0.jpg I see some - well under <1% - requests for slightly altered URLs: /media/204/s/rvice/d/i/1/1_files/7/0_0.jpg These requests come from IP addresses all over the world (US, Canada, China, Russia, India, Israel, etc.), desktop and mobile users with multiple user-agents (Chrome, IE, Firefox, Mobile Safari, etc.), and there is plenty of normal activity in the same session so I'm assuming this is either widespread malware or some broken proxy service. I have not seen them from anything other than images, which suggests that this may be some sort of content filter. Has anyone else seen this? My CDN logs show the first request on June 8th ramping up from several dozen to several hundred per day.

• Why is "www.mysite.com" different from "mysite.com"?

  In any browser if I use www.mysite.com or just mysite.com the web page is correctly retrieved, but I am having trouble with Google Analytics and Facebook App. Facebook: To be able to get Likes, I create the Facebook App needed and set the site URL to http://mysite.com/. Using their tool http://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/ when I test my page using http://mypage.com it works but using http://www.mypage.com fails with the message: Object at URL 'http://www.mysite.com/' of type 'website' is invalid because the domain 'www.mysite.com' is not allowed for the specified application id. Google Analytics: To be able to get traffic statistics, I created a Property and a Profile both with the URL http://www.mypage.com and no statistics were gathered in a week, when I changed the configured URL to http://mypage.com statistics where available a few hours later. What should I do to have statistics and likes for both www.mysite.com and mysite.com ??

• Unknown CSS font-family oddity with IE7-10 on Windows Vista, 7, 8

  I am seeing the following "oddity" with IE7-10 on Windows Vista, 7, 8: When declaring font-family: serif; I am seeing an old bitmapped serif font that I can't identify (see screenshot below) instead of the expected font Times New Roman. I know it's an old bitmapped font because it displays aliased, without any font smoothing, with IE7-10 on Win Vista-8 (just like Courier on every version of Win). Screenshot: I would like to know (1) can anyone else confirm my research and (2) BONUS: which font is IE displaying? Notes: IE6 and IE7 on Win XP displays Times New Roman, as they should. It doesn't matter if font-family: serif; is declared in an external stylesheet or inline on the element. Quoting the CSS attribute makes no difference.   Free hosting services often doesn't allow to use hotlinks. I'm not sure if I understand it well and what is the reason of such a disaproval. I would like to have pictures for my webpages in Photobucket e.g. which is allowed to have hotlinks and use those pictures using hotlinks on my sites. Is it that what is not allowed? What is a problem for free host server owners to accept such links? Bandwidth of Photobucket is used only as I understand and it is completely legal. • Legal Web Fonts & Licensing

  So I'm a little confused in regards to legality of using fonts for web. Often from designers I get a PSD file and it uses a special font, and the font is supplied. However attempting to convert the font using: http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fontface/generator Ends up with a message saying it's blocked by Adobe. Not only that sometimes if the font can be converted, it often looks like crap when viewed in a browser. I assume that the generator is primarily for people to convert their own fonts, but if you purchase the use of a font then you can only use it for Web if the terms allows you to? The fonts used in PSD's are often Adobe Fonts, I can't find anything that suggests I can convert those and use them on the web. So I'm wondering if anyone knows the legal rights around using Photoshop supplied fonts on the web? In addition I'm wondering what resources are available (free/paid) that provide fonts that can be used on the web.   I had been using mediawiki opensource in my website to display programming articles. Today i tried to access my site but it showed database not found. Mediawiki uses many databases. When i logged in my control panel and checked i can see that most of the databases created by mediawiki is missing so is the reason i am getting this error. I have used mediawiki for two different purposes. It is like two modules. For one the databases are missing and for the other i think the data is corrupt. Do anybody know any issue with mediawiki security or would this be a problem with the webhosting cause we have faced several problems with them initially like before three years and recently the were good. Yet this happened. I have requested to hosting company to look into it and meanwhile i am expecting the help from stackexchange users. How do i check the logs for table deletion?

• My events don't show up in the goal funnels or conversion funnels

The event seems to be working fine - I can see it on Top Events with all the labels, etc. But when going into Goal Flow and selecting 'Event Category' these events don't show up.   I have a blogger Blog website and I would like to have it show up on my company website. I have read a couple articles out there on how to do it. A hand full of them talk about using FTP which is old and no longer available. However, I am trying to following along with this one: http://www.infinite42.com/small-business/integrate-blogger-blog-website Which seems pretty easy but I am having a problem getting Google to Verify the DNS CName or Text Record that I created on my Windows 2007 Server. Do I need to create this record at the registra level. Right now the domain is setup at the registra to point the www record to my server where on my server I tried the Txt Record and the CName Record with no luck in DNS. Here are the Google instructions for creating a CName file record in DNS: Follow the steps below to create a DNS (Domain Name System) record that proves to Google that you own the domain. Add the CNAME record below to the DNS configuration for abc.com. CNAME Label / Host: CNAME Destination / Target: Click Verify below. When Google finds this DNS record, we'll make you a verified owner of the domain. (Note: DNS changes may take some time. If we don't find the record immediately, we'll check for it periodically.) To stay verified, don't remove the DNS record, even after verification succeeds. Here is the link to do it with a CName: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2012/08/domain-verification-using-cname-records.html When I go to add my CName record on my server's DNS the only two fields available are Alias Name and Fully Qualified Domain Name.
