• Deeply nested subqueries for traversing trees in MySQL

  I have a table in my database where I store a tree structure using the hybrid Nested Set (MPTT) model (the one which has lft and rght values) and the Adjacency List model (storing parent_id on each node). my_table (id, parent_id, lft, rght, alias) This question doesn't relate to any of the MPTT aspects of the tree but I thought I'd leave it in in case anyone had a good idea about how to leverage that. I want to convert a path of aliases to a specific node. For example: "users.admins.nickf" would find the node with alias "nickf" which is a child of one with alias "admins" which is a child of "users" which is at the root. There is a unique index on (parent_id, alias). • Question on passing a pointer to a structure in C to a function?

  Below, I wrote a primitive singly linked list in C. Function "addEditNode" MUST receive a pointer by value, which, I am guessing, means we can edit the data of the pointer but can not point it to something else. If I allocate memory using malloc in "addEditNode", when the function returns, can I see the contents of first-next ? Second question is do I have to free first-next or is it only first that I should free? • Python lists/arrays: disable negative indexing wrap-around

  While I find the negative number wraparound (i.e. A[-2] indexing the second-to-last element) extremely useful in many cases, there are often use cases I come across where it is more of an annoyance than helpful, and I find myself wishing for an alternate syntax to use when I would rather disable that particular behaviour. Here is a canned 2D example below, but I have had the same peeve a few times with other data structures and in other numbers of dimensions. import numpy as np A = np.random.randint(0, 2, (5, 10)) def foo(i, j, r=2): '''sum of neighbours within r steps of A[i,j]''' return A[i-r:i+r+1, j-r:j+r+1].sum() In the slice above I would rather that any negative number to the slice would be treated the same as None is, rather than wrapping to the other end of the array. Because of the wrapping, the otherwise nice implementation above gives incorrect results at boundary conditions and requires some sort of patch like: def ugly_foo(i, j, r=2): def thing(n): return None if n < 0 else n return A[thing(i-r):i+r+1, thing(j-r):j+r+1].sum() I have also tried zero-padding the array or list, but it is still inelegant (requires adjusting the lookup locations indices accordingly) and inefficient (requires copying the array). Am I missing some standard trick or elegant solution for slicing like this? I noticed that python and numpy already handle the case where you specify too large a number nicely - that is, if the index is greater than the shape of the array it behaves the same as if it were None.

• Overriding CSS style 'display:none' in javascript

  I'm trying to add a checkbox toggle that hides and shows list elements by changing their style display attribute from "none" to "inline", but it's not working. I'm setting the attribute's style to "display:none" in the CSS file. Then I set it to "display:inline" in javascript when someone checks a box. The javascript is successfully changing the element's property to inline, but for some reason the element remains invisible. If I do the opposite, by setting the display to inline in the CSS and overriding it to none in the javascript, it works fine. I don't see why this would work one way but not the other. I'm using chrome. Here is the code. Any feedback is appreciated.   Hi all. Problem: I am using Java Tutorials™ sourcecode for this. This is the source code. I tried this: --following with another section of sorted words-- words.add("count"); words.add("cvs"); words.add("dce"); words.add("depth"); --following with another section of sorted words-- and it works perfectly. However when I use this: --just a section of sorted words-- words.add("count"); words.add("cvs"); words.add("dce_iface"); words.add("dce_opnum"); words.add("dce_stub_data"); words.add("depth"); --following with another section of sorted words-- It does show dce_iface when I type dce, but when I type _ then following with o or s it shows me something else like dce_offset where the offset comes from words.add("fragoffset"); somewhere in the list. What can I do to solve this problem? Thank you in advance.

  I'm required to use a special library to keep track of my memory leaks where malloc()= allocate( ) and free( ) = unallocate( ). • What's the best way to manage list item sort order with Drag & Drop UI?

  I have a list of Students that I should display to user on a web page in tabular format. The items are stored in DB along with SortOrder information. On the web page, user can rearrange the list order by dragging and dropping the items to their desired sort order, similar to this post. Below is a screenshot of my test page. In the above example, each row has sort order info attached to it. When I drop John Doe (Student Id 10) above the Student Id 1 row, the list order should now be: 2, 10, 1, 8, 11. What's the optimistic (less resource hungry) way to store and update Sort Order information? My only idea for now is, for every change in the list's sort order, every object's SortOrder value should be updated, which in my opinion is very resource hungry. Just FYI: I might have at most 25 rows in my table.

  Assuming someone wants to implement a new viagra or akai berry e-commerce website. There is a lot of competition and this site does not really bring something new, other than a new online counter to buy products at a nice price. Assuming this site does not use any black hat techniques and that it stays with Google quality guidelines, and assuming it has no (or few) backlinks (from non-authoritative websites). Assuming this website's pages are indexed properly in Webmaster Tool, and that no penalties are reported. No site improvements are suggested. Google crawls the site daily as reported in GWT. No robots.txt configuration issues. Does Google sometime decide to no rank this site for any user query (for weeks), because of lack of original content? The reason I am asking this is that I am trying to understand the possible cause of a similar situation I am observing with two sites. If so, what is the way out to start ranking for these site? If not, does it mean the cause is elsewhere for sure? Any confirmed info to get out of the maze is welcome.

  Today I tried to connect to internet on my Google Galaxy Nexus running on 4.2.2 using Cellular Data connection and it failed. Tried reaching customer care representative to figure out why data connection is not working, but the robots (Interactive Voice Response systems) never allowed me to reach a human. After digging through the settings I found empty list of APN (Access Point Names) is the reason for not able to connect to internet. Not sure what caused APN list to vanish but I tried to create a new one that matches with the settings required for AT & T mobile. To my surprise I found that the newly created APN is also not shown in the APN list. Well there is something wrong with the phone – my APN’s are not shown as well as the newly created one is also not displayed. A simple Google search on this problem shown many forum discussions list and the solution to resolve the issue is to restart the phone. As soon as I restarted my phone the APN list is automatically populated and I’m able to connect to internet on my mobile.

Even when I change the options of bugs to show I don't get these bugs.First I thought these were bugs being set to 'wishlist' but some of them are showing up in the list. • How to determine the end of list has been reached?

  I'm trying to animate my object according to a set of recorded values from kinect skeleton stream by saving the (x,y,z) stream from the skeletal data into a list and then set my objects x and y position from the x,y of the list. However, once the list end has been reached it starts to animate again from the start. I don't want that - I just want the model position to keep going in the positive X direction. Is there any way I can check if end of the list has been reached and to just update the model position in x direction?   I have unistalled and reinstalled the Ubuntu Software Center as per info I found in a similar thread and I got the same response about line 91 or something like that. I just tried to upload a screen shot but since I'm new it won't allow me to. I also can not figure out how to cut and paste anything so I have to hand type what the error screen says, both when I attempt to open the software center and nothing happens, when I try to enter commands into the terminal to uninstall, reinstall, whatever I get the same following: COULD NOT INTITIALIZE THE PACKAGE INFORMATION An unresolvable problem occured while initializing the package information Please report t:his bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message: 'E: Malformed line 91 in source list/etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse) E: The list of sources could not be read., E: The package list of status file could not be parsed or opened. How do I report bugs? What can be done about this. I have searched and everything everyone says to do leads me back to the same line error message. So, I don't know how to get to line 91 in the source list; to tell you what it says. Sorry, I'm really new to this. That is what I need is to find out how to get there and fix what it says. I would really like to NOT have to re partition my hard drive and start from scratch, so I'm really looking forward to getting this problem solved. I need to be able to install new software.

  After the Bios screen appears, the purple screen appears and says, "cannot load Ubuntu2D" Log off. Logging off is my only option. I am operating on a Dell Insoirion 11.10 Ubuntu system. I deleted the gnome because I read in the forum it slowed down the computer and I wanted to watch movies. I deleted Unity as well because I read terrible things about it and that it was not necessary for me. I realize my experimention in learning by adding and deleting things were not proper.   Possible Duplicate: How to list all installed packages? I am on a "grown" system. My initial setup was using Ubuntu 9.04. But now with the 12.04 Update I got stuck. My System is freezing or wired errors occour. I want to reinstall my system on a clean partition. How can I get a list of the packages I installed in my system? I want a list with the base packages not all the dependecies, so I can install all packages on my clean install again with the correct (maybe new) dependencies. I other words: I want to retrieve a list of all packages installed with apt-get directly. Not the ones it additionally installs with these packages. Thanks!
