• Can I recover lost commits in a SVN repository using a local tracking git-svn branch?

  A SVN repo I use git-svn to track was recently corrupted and a backup was recovered. However, a week's worth of commits were lost in the recovery. Is it possible to recover those lost commits using git-svn dcommit on my local git repo? Is it sufficient to run git-svn dcommit with the SHA1 of the last recovered commit in SVN? eg. > svn info http://tracked-svn/trunk | sed -n "s/Revision: //p" 252 > git log --grep="git-svn-id:.*@252" --format=oneline | cut -f1 -d" " 55bb5c9cbb5fe11a90ec2e9e1e0c7c502908cf9a > git svn dcommit 55bb5c9cbb5fe11a90ec2e9e1e0c7c502908cf9a Or will the git-svn-id need to be stripped from the intended commits? • Applying policy based design question

  I've not read the Modern C++ Design book but have found the idea of behavior injection through templates interesting. I am now trying to apply it myself. I have a class that has a logger that I thought could be injected as a policy. • How to play an .mp3 using QBuffer with Phonon in a PyQt Qt environment

  With the code I have right now I CAN play .mp3 data from files succesfully. However I need to play the same data using a QtCore.QBuffer (NOT from a file). When I use the example of the docs it errors an unexpected type of QBuffer! However...... that is what it SHOULD see, according to the docs. But............... it throws: TypeError: Phonon.MediaObject.setCurrentSource(Phonon.MediaSource): argument 1 has unexpected type 'QBuffer' The code I use is (1): someBuffer = QtCore.QBuffer() someBuffer.writeData(TrackData) mediaObject.setCurrentSource(someBuffer) I also tried (2): someBuffer = QtCore.QBuffer() mediaObject.setCurrentSource(someBuffer) someBuffer.writeData(TrackData) and (3): someBuffer = QtCore.QBuffer() someBuffer.writeData(TrackData) mediaObject.setCurrentSource(Phonon.MediaSource(someBuffer)) The last example (3) throws an different ERROR and wipes my Gui off screen ;-) ASSERT: "d-connected" in file /builddir/build/BUILD/phonon-4.5.1/phonon/streaminterface.cpp, line xxxx Notes: TrackData contains the mp3 data and IS PLAYING OK when I write it to a File and use that as a resource to mediaObject.setCurrentSource(Phonon.MediaSource())I also experimented with a QByteArray but that leads to the same "unexpected QBuffer" error. To be more precise everything I feed setCurrentSource is not accepted. Tried a string (errors an unexpected type of String), tried a QBuffer (errors an unexpected type of QBuffer), tried a QByteArray (errors an unexpected type of QByteArray). BTW: I run Qt, PyQt on Linux. Any ideas??

How I can evaluate i values before it will be posted as argument for the method LoadXML ?

• Malloc inside another function (ANSI C)

  Hi I'll go straight to it. I'm working on an assignment, where I suddenly ran into trouble. I have to allocate a struct from within another function, obviously using pointers. I've been staring at this problem for hours and tried in a million different ways to solve it. This is some sample code (very simplified): ... some_struct s; printf("Before: %d\n", &s"); allocate(&s); printf("After: %d\n", &s"); ... /* The allocation function */ int allocate(some_struct *arg) { arg = malloc(sizeof(some_struct)); printf("In function: %d\n", &arg"); return 0; } This does give me the same address before and after the allocate-call: Before: -1079752900 In function: -1079752928 After: -1079752900 I know it's probably because it makes a copy in the function, but I don't know how to actually work on the pointer I gave as argument. I tried defining some_struct *s instead of some_struct s, but no luck. I tried with: int allocate(some_struct **arg) which works just fine (the allocate-function needs to be changed as well), BUT according to the assignment I may NOT change the declaration, and it HAS to be *arg.. And it would be most correct if I just have to declare some_struct s.. Not some_struct *s. I hope I make sense and some of you out there can help me :P Thanks in advice

If I print the argc argument, it's 14 for the second instance of runner.exe, and they are all weird stuff like Files\Microsoft, SQL, Files\Common and so on. I can't figure out why this happens. I want to be able to string as many runner.exe calls using command line arguments as possible, or at least 2. How can I do that? I am using Windows 7 if that makes a difference.

I wonder if I have to write a decorator class that accepts the iterator object as an argument, and define an __exit__ method for it? I would like to use the free IDX data provided by my local MLS board.   I'm currently in the process of getting started with unit testing and mocking for good and I stumbled over the following method that I can't seem to fabricate a working mock implementation for: function GetInstance(const AIID: TGUID; out AInstance; const AArgs: array of const; const AContextID: TImplContextID = CID_DEFAULT): Boolean; (TImplContextID is just an alias for Integer) I thought it would have to look something like this: function TImplementationProviderMock.GetInstance( const AIID: TGUID; out AInstance; const AArgs: array of const; const AContextID: TImplContextID): Boolean; begin Result := AddCall('GetInstance') .WithParams([@AIID, AContextID]) .ReturnsOutParams([AInstance]) .ReturnValue; end; But the compiler complains about the .ReturnsOutParams([AInstance]) saying "Bad argument type in variable type array constructor.". Also I haven't found a way to specify the open array parameter AArgs at all. Also, is using the @-notation for the TGUID-typed parameter the right way to go? Is it possible to mock this method with the current version of PascalMock at all?

Any suggestions? Oddly, it works fine on my machine (MRI 1.8.6 on RVM), but fails on the staging server (MRI 1.8.7 not on RVM).

The request is an invalid OData query since the value of the $filter argument cannot be empty. Is there a good way for me to check for an empty predicate? I know I can refactor my client code to not use a predicate unless there is at least one filterable item, but I thought I would check first to see if I overlooked some property or method on the Breeze Predicate.

• How to install DBD::mysql on OS X server?

  Trying to install DBD::mysql on OS X Server 10.6 (mac mini server). But I'm missing the mysql headers apparently. Since mysql is already part of OS X Server 10.6, I would like to NOT install anything else (no fink or darwin ports installs), just whatever's needed to get DBD::mysql installed and working. Do you know how I could do that? Do I have to install the headers somewhere? And if so, where? (again: I don't want to install another version of mysql on the box, want to use the version it came with). Is there a way to install DBD::mysql without compiling any C files? • categorize a set of phrases into a set of similar phrases

  I have a few apps that generate textual tracing information (logs) to log files. The tracing information is the typical printf() style - i.e. there are a lot of log entries that are similar (same format argument to printf), but differ where the format string had parameters. What would be an algorithm (url, books, articles, ...) that will allow me to analyze the log entries and categorize them into several bins/containers, where each bin has one associated format? Essentially, what I would like is to transform the raw log entries into (formatA, arg0 ... argN) instances, where formatA is shared among many log entries. The formatA does not have to be the exact format used to generate the entry (even more so if this makes the algo simpler). Most of the literature and web-info I found deals with exact matching, a max substring matching, or a k-difference (with k known/fixed ahead of time). Also, it focuses on matching a pair of (long) strings, or a single bin output (one match among all input). My case is somewhat different, since I have to discover what represents a (good-enough) match (generally a sequence of discontinuous strings), and then categorize each input entries to one of the discovered matches. Lastly, I'm not looking for a perfect algorithm, but something simple/easy to maintain. Thanks!

• Help passing reference to class subroutine in Perl.

  I am trying to pass a routine to another subroutine within a Perl module. But when I pass the sub reference the passed in ref no longer has the object data. Maybe its not possible to do it this way.   Hi, I maintain a program which can be automated via COM. Generally customers use VBS to do their scripting, but we have a couple of customers who use Matlab's ActiveX support and are having trouble calling COM object methods with a NULL parameter. They've asked how they do this in Matlab - and I've been scouring Mathworks' COM/ActiveX documentation for a day or so now and can't figure it out. I have no idea how many of those are even valid Matlab keywords - certainly none work in this case. Can anyone help?   I know that jQuery, for example, can do animation of sorts. I also know that at the very core of the animation, there must me some sort of loop doing the animation. What is an example of such a loop? A complete answer should ideally answer the following questions: What is a basic syntax for an effective animation recursion that can animate a single property of a particular object at a time? The function should be able to vary its target object and property of the object. What arguments/parameters should it take? What is a good range of reiterating the loop? In milliseconds? (Should this be a parameter/argument to the function?) REMEMBER: The answer is NOT necessarily language specific, but if you are writing in a specific language, please specify which one. Error handling is a plus. {Nothing is more irritating (for our purposes) than an animation that does something strange, like stopping halfway through.} Thanks!

  Thanks to the implicit casting in compound assignments and increment/decrement operators, the following compiles: byte b = 0; ++b; b++; --b; b--; b += b -= b *= b /= b %= b; b <<= b >>= b >>>= b; b |= b &= b ^= b; And thanks to auto-boxing and auto-unboxing, the following also compiles: Integer ii = 0; ++ii; ii++; --ii; ii--; ii += ii -= ii *= ii /= ii %= ii; ii <<= ii >>= ii >>>= ii; ii |= ii &= ii ^= ii; And yet, the last line in the following snippet gives compile-time error: Byte bb = 0; ++bb; bb++; --bb; bb--; // ... okay so far! bb += bb; // DOESN'T COMPILE!!! // "The operator += is undefined for the argument type(s) Byte, byte" Can anyone help me figure out what's going on here? The byte b version compiles just fine, so shouldn't Byte bb just follow suit and do the appropriate boxing and unboxing as necessary to accommodate?

• Time Machine for Windows?

  Finally got convinced to start using some kind of version control for my code instead of zipping down a copy of the project at the end of each day. Downloaded Tortoise SVN and used it to create a repository localy on my hdd. I've been using it for 2 days now but I have to say that using it is actually more hassle than just copying the project manually in explorer. Sure, you only store incremental changes but with the cheap disks of today I can't really say that's an argument when you only have small projects. I haven't realy found a quick way to browse the older versions of my files eighter. What I want is an infinite undo that is completely transparent while I code, if I save the file I want a backup. I don't want to check out, check in and don't even get me started on moving files. I haven't tried Time Machine for OS X but it looks like it's exactly what I'm looking for. Does such a program exist for windows? Preferably free and with some kind of tagging-system so I can tag a timestamp when the project is working etc. Maybe should add that I mostly work alone on a single computer. Update: Some of you asked why I want backup. Since I work alone it's mostly to allow me to quickly hack up a solution without worrying that something will screw up.
