  • Run command automatically as root after login

    I'm using evrouter to simulate keypresses from my mouses extra buttons. It works great but I need to run the command with sudo to make it work so I can't just use my DE to handle autostart.     I am running Apache 2.4.6 on my CentOS 6.4 server. Having some trouble with rewrite...so was trying to check loaded modules apache2ctl -M But that returns apache2ctl command not found So I tried which apache2ctl and I get no apache2ctl in (/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/root/bin) I am sure apache is installed and running. How do I find apache2ctl/ check loaded modules now?

  • The meaning of the first line output in the iwconfig command in Linux

    When I'm using the iwconfig command on my current wifi interface , wlan0 , the first line I get as output is wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn. When I try to do this when I am connected to other WiFi's, I sometimes get other versions, like IEEE 802.11bg or IEEE 802.11abgn. I want to ask, what's the meaning of this output? if the output is IEEE 802.11bgn then it means that this WiFi supports both the b , g and n standards or it means something else? Thnaks :)

  • WPF: Menu Items only bind command parameters once.

    Ive noticed this a couple of times when using menus with commands, they are not very dynamic, check this out. I am creating a menu from a collection of colours, I use it to colour a column in a datagrid. Anyway when i first bring up the menu (its a context menu) the command parameter binding happens and it binds to the column that the context menu was opened on. However the next time i bring it up it seems wpf caches the menu and it doesnt rebind the command parameter. so i can set the colour only on the initial column that the context menu appeared on. SNOOP shows that in cases when this propagation fails, instead of UserControl, CanExecute is handled by PART_ShowContextMenuButton (Button), which is part of docking header. I've had other issues with UI command propagation within UserControls hosted inside AvalonDock, but this one is the easiest to reproduce.

But in this case my clipboard is flooded with lots of unnecessary data.   • Supporting Piping (A Useful Hello World)

    I am trying to write a collection of simple C++ programs that follow the basic Unix philosophy by: Make each program do one thing well. Expect the output of every program to become the input to another, as yet unknown, program. I'm having an issue trying to get the output of one to be the input of the other, and getting the output of one be the input of a separate instance of itself. Very briefly, I have a program add which takes arguments and spits out the summation. I want to be able to pipe the output to another add instance. ./add 1 2 | ./add 3 4 That should yield 6 but currently yields 10. I've encountered two problems: The cin waits for user input from the console. I don't want this, and haven't been able to find a simple example showing a the use of standard input stream without querying the user in the console. If someone knows of an example please let me know. I can't figure out how to use standard input while supporting piping. Currently, it appears it does not work. If I issue the command ./add 1 2 | ./add 3 4 it results in 7. The relevant code is below: add.cpp snippet // ...   • Linux Distro for Beginners

    Well... I know that's the question arising all over the Internet, but I couldn't find an answer to suit me after googling for quite some time. I'd like to get a Linux distribution, and start learning using the CLI. I'm looking for a distribution already having GNOME installed, as I'll be using Linux-Command.org as my learning resource, and I'm not very familiar with CLI-based web browsers. I'd mainly like to get to know my way around a UNIX-based system, and then I think I'd like to pick up a CLI-only distribution, and start doing more complex stuff. I've tried Ubuntu, Fedora Core, OpenSolaris and FreeBSD (the last two aren't linux distros, I know). Ubuntu and FC are fine, they do come with Firefox, but I'm not really sure they're meant for learning purposes. OpenSolaris was OK as well, but I haven't got to play with it enough. FreeBSD 7.2 did not want to install itself on my 13" MacBook Pro, it generated a kernel panic everytime while copying the files to the disk. So to sum this up, I'm trying to learn Linux, and I'm willing to invest time into this (that is, not giving up when the first problems arise). I also have intermediate knowledge of C++, if it helps, and I'm also using the CLI-vim to write small C++ CLI-based programs, so text editing should be any problem. And... speaking of Macs, how am I going to be limited if I try to learn how to use UNIX-based systems using the OS X Terminal? It uses bash 3.2, isn't this the same shell as the one found on most of the Linux machines? How does the fact that OS X is based on FreeBSD 4.4, if I'm not mistaking, affect this? Thanks in advance, and hopefully, I'll have a starting point ASAP.

  • Newbie: get access privilege

    I am newbie on Linux Ubuntu machine. I logged in to the Ubuntu with username: student. There are some directories only allowed root user to access, for example /var/lib/mysql ,(I know I can use sudo to access but it is not what I want). If I want to get the access privilege on those directories with student account, is it so that I can run the following command : chown student: PATH_TO_ROOT_USER_PRIVILEGED_DIR and after that, I can access that directory by using my own account ? am I right? If I am right, then will root user lose the access privilege because I changed it to student user? If I am wrong, please tell me the right solution. P.S. please don't concern on what I am going to do on /var/lib/mysql directory, that is only my example, as I mentioned above, I mean generally *for those directories which only have root privilege*, can I use chown to change access privilege and will root user then loose the access because of the change made by chown ? I just wanna know the effect of chown.
