• XAML: make a ScrollViewer show scrollbars when the ScaleTransform of a child object gets big

  Hi. I am making a sort of "print preview" control for some documents in my Silverlight 3 application. I have a Canvas (for showing the document) inside of a ScrollViewer, and I have zoom in / zoom out buttons that control the X and Y Scale properties of the ScaleTransform for the Canvas.RenderTransform property. I want the scrollbars of the ScrollViewer to show up when I "zoom in" enough such that the canvas is no longer visible in the ScrollViewer area, but it seems that they only show up depending on the Width/Height of the Canvas itself, regardless of whether it is zoomed in or not. Can anyone help?

  Hello everyone, I am using VSTS 2008 + C# + .Net 3.5 + Silverlight 3.0 + ASP.Net to develop a Silverlight application (a video media player) in browser and the function is simple, just use MediaElement to play a remote video file. The remote server is Windows Server 2008 + IIS 7.0 + IIS Media Bit Rate Throttling Control. Since the request media URL can be discovered (e.g. from traffic sniffer), and I want to know how to prevent from download directly from the Url? i.e. I want end user to use my Silverlight media player application in browser to play the file, prevent them from download to local directly. Any easy and quick solution or reference code/documents? thanks in advance, George

• Silverlight 4 application failing to build in Blend 4 Beta..

  Hi, I'm creating a simple silverlight application using Silverlight 4 and Expression Blend 4 Beta, but when I run the Application I get the following Error: C:\Users\WebDevelop1\Documents\Expression\Blend 4 Beta\Projects\SilverlightApplication1\SilverlightApplication1.sln.metaproj : error MSB4126: The specified solution configuration "Debug|HPD" is invalid. Please specify a valid solution configuration using the Configuration and Platform properties (e.g. MSBuild.exe Solution.sln /p:Configuration=Debug /p:Platform="Any CPU") or leave those properties blank to use the default solution configuration. Done building project "SilverlightApplication1.sln" -- FAILED. Build failed. I'm relatively new to silverlight and not really sure where to start. This has happened with every project I have created in Blend, but when I run it in VS2010 it runs perfect. Is this a known issue with the Beta release or am I possibly missing something? • Problems trying to use Visual Studio 2010 and AJAX extensions

  Why can I not add ScriptManager control or UpdatePanel to a page in Visual Studio 2010? The drag( or double click) just fails - it seems like there is an incompatibility somewhere? UPDATE: This is 'default' install of 2010 Ultimate on Windows7, create a web application, cannot drag ScriptManager or UpdatePanel to the designer. Typing the declarations works. The cursor changes to the [+] icon when you drag it to the right place but nothing appears to happens on 'drop', briefly the documents name has * appended, this quickly changes back to normal, either is saves or does an undo. I'm assuming something is going wrong so it undos...but what is going wrong?

  We need to insert a web beacon (i know taboo) in to adobe PDFs to know when they are opened, as one of our clients is moving to a model of "giving" their documents away and following up repeat viewers for subscriptions. Its not enough to be able to provide a download, they want to attach the PDF to an email and "blast" to directed recipients (double-opt-in etc). Adding the javascript to the pdf is easy enough: (iText) and the "openAction" event. However the security box pops up and displays: "Security Warning" "Document is trying to connect to 'xxxx.yyy.com' if you trusty the site choose Allow. If do not trust the site choose Block" [help] [allow] [block] I don't think we need to completley overhaul the dialogue box, I just think we need to change the middle text to be more descriptive of why we are doing it.   Hey there, Under what license agreement should you release software under if it's closed-source and for commercial use only? Are there multiple license types? (such with open source you have BSD, GNU/GPL etc..) If so, which one do I choose, and are there samples out there to get you started? I have heard the term and seen documents named EULA.txt for an End User License Agreement, but can't seem to find a definitive guide on the net as to how to structure one but do see this included with nearly every commercial app I have installed and don't know if it's as simple just to "change to suit your business". Can anyone shed some more light on this? Thanks guys. For further details - our software is non-redistributable, non-modifiable and the user is charged yearly.

  I'm trying to write a custom fxcop rule for mstest projects VS2010. I'd like to debug it but keep getting an exception when it tries to load the dll for the mstest project it fails stating that it can't find referenced assembly: Microsoft.FxCop.Common.AssemblyLoadException Could not load C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\Visual Studio 2010\Projects\20100106-CodeAnalysisRulesBlogDemo\BlogDemo\TestProject1\bin\Debug\TestProject1.dll. Microsoft.FxCop.Sdk.InvalidMetadataException The following error was encountered while reading module 'TestProject1': Assembly reference cannot be resolved: Microsoft.VisualStudio.QualityTools.UnitTestFramework, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a. The error -Windows Error[2] The system cannot find the file specified- comes when I run the program, open a .doc within the folder make some changes and save it. Any suggestions on how to fix this?   I'm trying to extract text from PDF files using an iFilter. The Adobe PDF iFilter that is distributed with Adobe Reader is awful, returning HRESULT E_FAIL messages for many PDF documents. The FoxIt PDF IFilter works beautifully on virtually all of the PDFs I've been using for testing. The problem is that every time the Adobe Updater runs, it replaces the awesome FoxIt IFilter with the crappy Adobe IFilter. I've been using the LoadIFilter method to get the registered IFilter for PDF files. Is there a way to force the Win32 API to load the FoxIt IFilter instead of the Adobe IFilter? NOTE: This question about determining which IFilters are installed asks a related -- but not identical -- question.

  I am interested in learning MVC, and have experimented with a couple of the sample apps. As a project, I'd like to move part or all of my own office app to MVC. An important part of this app, and of ALL of my apps for customers, is the printing of invoices, purchase orders, inventory lists and so forth. In fact, one of their main criteria for judging what we do is the appearance of these documents and their incorporation into the app in a practical, intuitive way. It's impossible for me to get by without a report writer. The MSFT report viewer used to produce rdlc reports has been sufficient, and even comes up better than the competition in a couple of key areas. Does this control work with an ASP.NET MVC application?

• Delphi connection to OpenEdge Progress-4GL Database

  Folks: Has anyone had success connecting to a Progress-4GL database with Delphi?   I've been unable to establish any connection with the ODBC driver provided by the vendor (Progress OpenEdge 10.1C Driver). I've entered (what I believe are) the right parameters, but keep on getting an error whenever I test the connection: "[DataDirect][ODBC Progress OpenEdge Wire Protocol driver] Socket closed." Background: I've been tasked to re-design a 13-year-old application, but the original programmer did not provide any supporting documents, passwords, configuration setup, etc. (I'm on my own)!   To make things worse, online help and useful documentation about Progress is scarce (I had never heard about this database until now). I want to examine the existing data, maybe create an ERD to familiarize myself with the schema, but I can't even access the data outside of the OpenEdge code. Any help is appreciated!

  How can I make developers follow coding standards? In our company: I've given documents and they don't have the patience to read it and follow it. I've tried telling them again and again "please do it this way" they nod their heads, but still do it the wrong way We're doing a project for the third time and still they don't seem to follow it properly. I'm now so tired of this. What is the best way to set standards for coding and make sure they follow them? Edit: There are just about 10 developers in my team. They're over pressurized and do not take the time to put comments and do the code neatly since there's more pressure to complete the product from our management. What would be the solution for this?

A little background: I use PowerShell on windows xp at work and I set a bunch of useful shortcuts in Microsoft.PowerShell_profile.ps1 in My Documents, trying to emulate Mac environment inspired by Ryan Bates's shortcuts I have things like: Set-Alias rsc Rails-Console function Rails-Console {Invoke-Expression "ruby script/console"} Which works just fine when in command prompt I say: rsc #it calls the proper command However this doesn't work properly Set-Alias rsg Rails-Generate function Rails-Generate {Invoke-Expression "ruby script/generate"} So when I do : rsg model User which is supposed to call ruby script/generate model User all it calls is ruby script/generate #Dumping my params So how would I properly modify my functions to take params I send to functions? We use SharePoint in the company for basic document sharing and team sites. I need an easy to use wiki tool which is capable of showing the content like WikiPedia contents and it would be great if I could have the SharePoint tree view and Active Directory authentication also. I googled it and found Atlassian's Confluence and it seems that this product is capable of the requirements. We use Jira for issue tracking, so we can use it's reporting in dashboards. I need and it has a Wiki part which displays wiki pages in tree view. It should be like Does anyone used Confluence or have an idea for other products which meets my requirements

• Saving custom attributes in NSAttributedString

  I need to add a custom attribute to the selected text in an NSTextView. So I can do that by getting the attributed string for the selection, adding a custom attribute to it, and then replacing the selection with my new attributed string. So now I get the text view's attributed string as NSData and write it to a file. Later when I open that file and restore it to the text view my custom attributes are gone! After working out the entire scheme for my custom attribute I find that custom attributes are not saved for you. Look at the IMPORTANT note here: http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/DOCUMENTATION/Cocoa/Conceptual/AttributedStrings/Tasks/RTFAndAttrStrings.html So I have no idea how to save and restore my documents with this custom attribute. Any help?

  Hello, I am running two processes,Process A is opened by Process B using the following example: createProcessHandle = CreateProcess( TEXT("C:\\Users\Jamie\\Documents\\Application\\Debug\\ProcessA.exe"), TEXT(""), NULL, NULL, FALSE, 0, NULL, NULL, &startupinfo, &process_information ); As you can see the Process is reliant on the path given to it, the problem I have is that if I change the location of my ProcessA.exe (Such as a backup/duplicate) it's a tiresome process to keep recoding the path. I want to be able to make it run no matter where it is without having to recode the path manually. Can anybody suggest a solution to this?

  I posted a question here a few weeks ago asking about an alternative to creating .fdf files to fill in pdf documents and someone here pointed me to ITextSharp. It's working like a champ so thanks for that. I'd now like to know if ITextSharp has the capability of converting HTML to PDF. Everything I will convert will just be plain text but unfortunately there is very little to no documentation on ITextSharp so I can't determine if that will be a viable solution for me. If it can't do it, can someone point me to some good, free .net libraries that can take a simple plain text HTML document and convert it to a pdf? tia.

• Deployment of SQL compact Edition (SDF files) using Setup project

  Hi, I have a C#.NET desktop application using SQL Compact edition as data store. The application should be used by any user on the machine and all should be seeing the same data ( data should not different per user). I am wondering where should I deploy the SDF file? User's Personal data folder (My Documents) means each user will have a separate database. Deploying on the same folder as the application causes vista to copy the file to \USers\Appdata\local\VirtualStore\ and it seems to make different copies for each user. Where is it best to deploy the SDF file to ensure all users are looking at the same data?
