• How to set response header in JAX-RS so that user sees download popup for Excel?

  I wrote code that generate Excel file using REST JAX-RS and I confirmed that the generated Excel file is in GlassFish server directory. But my goal is when user click on the button (which generate Excel .xls), I want download popup to show up asking user whether to save or open the .xls file just like any other web services doing for downloading any type of files. According to my search, the step is: generate Excel .xls (DONE) write the excel to stream in JAX-RS file, set response header to something like, String fileName = "Blah_Report.xls"; response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" + fileName); My question is I'm doing all of this in JAX-RS file and I don't have HttpServletResponse object available. According to the answer from Add Response Header to JAX-RS Webservice He says: You can inject a reference to the actual HttpServletResponse via the @Context annotation in your webservice and use addHeader() etc. to add your header. I can't really figure what exactly that means without sample code..

  Hi, I'm quite confused with what are the necessary tools for VSTO develpment. Specifically I want to manipulate Excel 2003/2007 documents programmatically. I did quite a lot of VBA before, if you want to relate any answer to that. Few questions I have about VSTO: Can I use Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition C#/C++ for this? Do I need to have .NET framework installed? Does the resulting VSTO program need to have a copy of Office installed in the same system to run? Direct links to the relevant tools/plugins/IDE will be appreciated. Note: I'm totally new to VSTO and .NET but an Office power user. Have experience with COM programming. Thanks.

• Turning A Stacked List into workable data

  In Excel I have a list of names that in the cell appear stacked, and I want each name in its own column. I was thinking Python may be a good way to do this? Example: Joe Smith John Hawk Mike Green Lauren Smith One cell will look exactly like that, with each name on its line within the cell but all of the names contained in the cell. I have 50 cells each with 1-20 stacked names and I want to put each name in its own cell on a given row. So, in my example all of those names would occupy the same row but each would have their own column. Any ideas?

• Best way to gather, then import data into drupal?

  I am building my first database driven website with Drupal and I have a few questions. I am currently populating a google docs excel spreadsheet with all of the data I want to eventually be able to query from the website (after it's imported). Is this the best way to start? If this is not the best way to start what would you recommend? My plan is to populate the spreadsheet then import it as a csv into the mysql db via the CCK Node. I've seen two ways to do this. http://drupal.org/node/133705 (importing data into CCK nodes) http://drupal.org/node/237574 (Inserting data using spreadsheet/csv instead of SQL insert statements) Basically my question(s) is what is the best way to gather, then import data into drupal?   I have the following function: f(n) = f(n - 1) + (n - 1) f(0) = 0 n >= 0 I have n declared on column A, and need the result of f(n) on column B. I'm trying to find the Excel formula equivalent for this function. Sample Result: A | B --+-- 0 | 0 or: A | B --+-- 1 | 0 or: A | B --+-- 4 | 6 but never: A | B --+-- 0 | 0 1 | 0 2 | 1 ... The biggest problem is, I can't simulate the value of f(n - 1). So referencing the previous row like the above example is invalid. I'm almost sure the answer is trivial, I just can't find it.

  I have an Excel spreadsheet, and I want to put a button on it, so users will be able to upload their data to an http/ftp server, or send the data to the server using a socket directly. I have noticed that some people creates an ftp script to do. First of all, I'm not sure that everybody has ftp on their Windows machine, and secondly, I would prefer to use a method that allows me to better monitor the progress of the upload. For example, I want to know if the user id/password failed, if the transmission completed successfully, of if there were any other kind of errors with the receiving server. Thank you.

I have made some lists so it's easy to perform the calculations.   Hello, I have more than one Excel Workbooks containing multiple worksheets in each of them. I would like to have a macro which help me to create (combine the information from) all the worksheets into one pipe [|] delimited [.csv] file. These sheets should be combined/appended into the [.csv] file, in the same order these worksbooks appear in a folder and in the order sheets appear in these workbooks. The macro should ask for a delimiter/separator specific to me and the input and output path based on my selection.   Hi I am trying to do some maths with my VBA excel (prime factorization) and I am hitting the limit of the long data type (runtime error 6 Overflow). Is there any way to get around this and still stay within VBA? (I am aware that the obvious one would be to use another more appropriate programming language) Thanks for help in advance! • Return cell reference as result of if statement with vlookups.

  I have two sets of data in excel. One contains a set of data which represents the initial step of a process. The other set of data represents the additional steps which take place after the first step is completed. Each of the data records in the "additional step data" has an id in a column. I need to find the identifying codes of the "additional step data" which correspond with the initial step data records. The problem is that I have to match the data in 4 columns between the two data sets and return the id of the "additional step data". I started by doing a combination of an if and vlookup functions, but I got stuck when I tried to figure out how to get the if statement to reference the id of the matching "additional step data". Basically I am trying to avoid having to search by manually filtering between two sets of data and finding corresponding records. Does anyone have any idea about how to do this?

On click the button:- The submit function is working properly in firefox, but not in IE. Instead of submitting the value(in this example values are 'Report' and 'Excel'), indeed it is submitting the label of the button. That is if i am checking the value of array PRINT_R($_POST). The value of it is Array ( [report] =>(Icon that i used) Report [excel] => (Icon that i used) Excel [frm_analysis] => [to_analysis] => ) Here i have more than 1 button, then all the labels are submitted eventhough one of them is pressed. i dont how to capture which button is pressed. I even tried changing button type=button and onclick="document.formname.submit()" Even this is resulting in the same. Can you please help me to solve this.

• Activate first workbook after closing second one?

  Open workbook A. Code in A opens workbook B. B is now the active WB. Code in B ends with ThisWorkBook.Close B closes, so A appears. Problem is, I can't get ANY Activate events in WB A to fire automatically after WB B closes. But if I close WB B manually, using mouse to 'x' out the WB, or via the menus, then WB A triggers Activate events. Somehow using VBA to close WB B prevents WB A Activate events from triggering. Same results in Excel 97 and 2003 Am I missing something, or is there a workaround?? Thanks! John

• Custom Database integration with MOSS 2007

  Hopefully someone has been down this road before and can offer some sound advice as far as which direction I should take. I am currently involved in a project in which we will be utilizing a custom database to store data extracted from excel files based on pre-established templates (to maintain consistency). We currently have a process (written in C#.Net 2008) that can extract the necessary data from the spreadsheets and import it into our custom database. What I am primarily interested in is figuring out the best method for integrating that process with our portal. What I would like to do is let SharePoint keep track of the metadata about the spreadsheet itself and let the custom database keep track of the data contained within the spreadsheet. So, one thing I need is a way to link spreadsheets from SharePoint to the custom database and vice versa. As these spreadsheets will be updated periodically, I need tried and true way of ensuring that the data remains synchronized between SharePoint and the custom database. I am also interested in finding out how to use the data from the custom database to create reports within the SharePoint portal. Any and all information will be greatly appreciated.

• MVC2 EditorTemplate for DropDownList

  I've spent the majority of the past week knee deep in the new templating functionality baked into MVC2. I had a hard time trying to get a DropDownList template working. The biggest problem I've been working to solve is how to get the source data for the drop down list to the template. I saw a lot of examples where you can put the source data in the ViewData dictionary (ViewData["DropDownSourceValuesKey"]) then retrieve them in the template itself (var sourceValues = ViewData["DropDownSourceValuesKey"];) This works, but I did not like having a silly string as the lynch pin for making this work. Below is an approach I've come up with and wanted to get opinions on this approach: here are my design goals: The view model should contain the source data for the drop down list Limit Silly Strings Not use ViewData dictionary Controller is responsible for filling the property with the source data for the drop down list Here's my View Model: public class CustomerViewModel { [ScaffoldColumn(false)] public String CustomerCode{ get; set; } [UIHint("DropDownList")] [DropDownList(DropDownListTargetProperty = "CustomerCode"] [DisplayName("Customer Code")] public IEnumerable<SelectListItem> CustomerCodeList { get; set; } public String FirstName { get; set; } public String LastName { get; set; } public String PhoneNumber { get; set; } public String Address1 { get; set; } public String Address2 { get; set; } public String City { get; set; } public String State { get; set; } public String Zip { get; set; } } My View Model has a CustomerCode property which is a value that the user selects from a list of values. I have a CustomerCodeList property that is a list of possible CustomerCode values and is the source for a drop down list. I've created a DropDownList attribute with a DropDownListTargetProperty. DropDownListTargetProperty points to the property which will be populated based on the user selection from the generated drop down (in this case, the CustomerCode property). Notice that the CustomerCode property has [ScaffoldColumn(false)] which forces the generator to skip the field in the generated output. My DropDownList.ascx file will generate a dropdown list form element with the source data from the CustomerCodeList property. The generated dropdown list will use the value of the DropDownListTargetProperty from the DropDownList attribute as the Id and the Name attributes of the Select form element. So the generated code will look like this: <select id="CustomerCode" name="CustomerCode"> <option>... </select> This works out great because when the form is submitted, MVC will populate the target property with the selected value from the drop down list because the name of the generated dropdown list IS the target property. I kinda visualize it as the CustomerCodeList property is an extension of sorts of the CustomerCode property. I've coupled the source data to the property. NOTE: you have to override the CreateMetadata method of the DataAnnotationsModelMetadataProvider for the DropDownListAttribute.
