  • htaccess IP blocking with custom 403 Error not working

    I'm trying to block everyone but 1 IP address from my site on a server running apache & centos. My setup is follows the example below. My server: `http://www.myserver.com/` My .htaccess file <limit GET> order deny,allow deny from all allow from 176.219.192.141 </limit> ErrorDocument 403 http://www.google.com ErrorDocument 404 http://www.google.com When I visit http://www.myserver.com/ from an invalid IP, it gives me a generic 403 error. When I visit http://www.myserver.com/page-does-not-exist/ it redirects me correctly to http://www.google.com but I can't figure out why the 403 error doesn't redirect me too. Anyone have any ideas?

  • In 12.04 LTS, I get "No DBus" errors when running things as root

    While attempting to run gEdit as root from a terminal window (was trying to do some tweaking on my HOSTS and FSTAB files), I get a message saying "No DBus connection available" and get booted back to the prompt. However, I can run Nautilus from the prompt like that (still get the error, but it runs all the same), and use WINE and NOTEPAD, and was able to make my changes. I thought maybe DBUS was missing, but APT says it's installed and gEdit runs fine when not elevated. Granted, I don't have to elevate often, but on the off-chance I do, (like adding or changing SMB/CIFS mountpoints in FSTAB), I would like to use gEdit, not NOTEPAD from WINE, and not in a terminal window with VI (well VIM). Ideas? Solutions?

  • Redirect cPanel url to something different

    I have masterdomain.com which is the domain that hosts other domains. On cPanel normally you can get to the actual cPanel by visiting cpanel.hosteddomainA.com, hosteddomainA.com/cpanel or hosteddomainA.com:2082 What I would like to accomplish is to have the hosteddomains cPanel auto redirect to something like my.masterdomain.com:2082 . Doing this would allow me to adequately throw an SSL cert in my. and really offer a secure experience to my users. I know it's possible because bluehost does the same. They redirect to my.bluehost.com. Can anyone think of how to do it?

  • Questions about software licensing

    I've been having a discussion about licensing and open source software. Basically - the other guy is saying that licensing is easy, if you're going to build a product you can use an (any) open source project and make money by selling that code. My issue is that say I create a website or app with a project that uses a GPL license the restrictions aren't so straight forward - correct me if i'm wrong on each of these scenarios: 1 - i create an iPhone app using GPL code and put that app into the appstore - the code must be freely available to people buying that app. 2 - i create a website that my client hosts - they must have access to the code. 3 - i create a website as SaaS that my client "leases" but does not own - though it is hosted on their infrastructure - they must have access to that code Am i right on each of those assumptions? Are there any other issues i should be aware of under any other licensing terms for other licenses?

  • Where are Nagios 3 Config Files in Ubuntu 12.04?

    I just installed Nagios3 via Synaptic. The package and it's dependencies all installed fine and I log in using a web browser, however I'd like to add hosts now and according to the official Nagios Documentation the config file should be in the /usr/local/nagios/* directory. When I go to /usr/local it's not there. I can't seem to find these config files anywhere. I'm not sure what I did wrong. I'm running Xubuntu 12.04 64-bit Any help at all would be greatly appreciated, Thank you!

  • Configure IIS 6 to deny access to specific file based upon IP address

    Hello guys, We are using IIS 6 as our webserver. And we need to deny the access for one specif file, placed in only one specific URL, to everybody OUTSIDE the local network. In other words, if somebody is trying to access that filme/page from their own computer at home, using the internet, they must not succeed. But, if the same person try to do that at the same network of the web server, its ok. I am not sure about that, but Apache uses ORDER DENY,ALLOW. You specify the URL, allow or deny to all or to a range of IP. Any suggestions? Thanks!

So then why am I still getting these visitors who successfully access the page I don't want them to see with an Apache 200 code when it should be an error code?

  • Use an audio/video file from a Linux laptop via USB to be played by Magic Sing ET-23H

    I am one of the technical directors of a regular karaoke contest event. For the karaoke contest itself, due to tight budget, we are using what one of the sponsors are providing - Magic Sing ET-23H . The video output of the Magic Sing ET-23H are broadcasted at two big screens that are being shown to the audience and event attendees. When a karaoke contestant provides his / her karaoke video, the video itself is in a readable USB flashdrive and is attached to the USB input of Magic Sing ET-23H. What really bugs me is that the interface of Magic Sing ET-23H are also being broadcasted at the big screen video feeds. The interface of choosing the video file is being seen in the Magic Sing ET-23H - also to the big video screens that are seen by the audience and event goers. I will post in the comments ( if my less than 10 reputation would allow me) the picture of Magic Sing ET-23KH USB input of the device. I always bring my laptop, Acer AS5742-7653, during the regular karaoke event. I'm using my laptop also for tallying of scores from the judges, and also playing audio files from contestants that did not provide a karaoke video. I personally am using different Linux distros, but I next to all the time use my Ubuntu Studio 12.04.3 64bit partition during the regular karaoke contest event. My question is this: Is there a way I can share a temporary video/audio file directly from the laptop I'm using, going to the Magic Sing ET-23H that can broadcast both the video/audio file? Just like how in Window's Avisynth AVS files, or VirtualDub's temporary avi file, or like using ffplay (of ffmpeg), etc. I have researched somewhat the matter and found links in SuperUser.com. Though I can only provide the links at the comments section of this post if my reputation of less than 10 would allow me. I have a hunch it is possible, but I have not fully understood the device being used at the event, Magic Sing ET-23H, if there are other ways for it to broadcast video and audio files besides its USB input. Any help to my current predicament is highly appreciated. Thank you. The above vhost configuration is on a machine separate than where OLAT is running.

  • Is it Secure to Grant Apache User Ownership of Directories & Files for Wordpress

    I'm currently setting up WordPress on an Ubuntu server 12 everything runs fine but there is an issue when it comes to automatically updating and uploading media via WP as Apache "www-data" user does not have permissions to write to the directories. "user1" has full permission All my directories have permissions of 0755 and files 644 my directories setup is as follows: /home/user1/public_html All WP files and directories are in "public_html" In order to work around the auto updating and uploading media I've granted Apache user ownership to the following directories sudo chown www-data:www-data wp-content -R sudo chown www-data:www-data wp-includes -R sudo chown www-data:www-data wp-admin -R I would like to know security wise how secure this is and if it is not secure what would be the best solution? That will allow me to keep all files and directories owned by user1 and still allow wp to be able to automatically update and uploading media

  • Tools for analyzing performance of SQL Server/Express?

    The application that I have customized and continue to support for my client is seeing dramatic performance problems in the field. Simple queries on rather small datasets take over a minute when I would expect them to complete with sub-second times. My current theory is that SQL Server Express 2005 is too limited for the rather non-trivial demands being made of it, but I am not sure how to get about gathering data that I can use to either prove my point or allow me to move on to finding another cause. Can anyone point me toward some tools that would allow me to analyze the load on this database? Information such as simultaneous connections, execution times of individual queries, memory usage, heck just any profiling data at all would be a help. Many thanks.

  • Choose between multiple keyboard layouts for different users in GDM3

    I am trying to set up a computer with multiple users each with different preferred keyboard layouts. The biggest sticking point right now is allowing each to log in comfortably. GDM used to offer a way to choose keyboard layout, but I can't discover how to set this up in GDM3. All the solutions I found when Googling this problem suggest changing the keyboard layout in xorg.conf, but that only sets a different single layout and still does not seem to allow me to change the layout between multiple choices. How can I allow multiple layouts when logging in?

  • How to let the browser prefer IPv6 over IPv4?

    I installed miredo and have IPv6 up and running it seems. I can ping6 hosts and download webpages with wget or my webbrowser when I specify IPv6 addresses, however whenever I specify a hostname that is offered over both IPv4 and IPv6 the browser picks the IPv4 address for the connection. How can I change that and let the browser use IPv6 instead of IPv4 if available? Googling around I found a hint that browsers will prefer IPv4 over IPv6 for 6to4/teredo tunnels, but so far I haven't found an explanation why or how to change that.

    I am trying to redirect /folder to / using .htaccess but all am I getting is the Apache HTTP Server Test Page. My root directory looks like this: / .htaccess -/folder -/folder2 -/folder3 My .htaccess looks like this: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/folder/ RewriteRule (.*) /folder/$1 What am I doing wrong? I checked my httpd.conf (I'm running Centos) and the mod_rewrite library is being loaded. As a side note, my server is not a www server, it's simply a virtual machine so it's hostname is centosvm.   • A fix for the design time error in MVVM Light V4.1

    For those of you who installed V4.1 of MVVM Light and created a project for Windows Phone 8, you will have noticed an error showing up in the design surface (either in Visual Studio designer, or in Expression Blend). The error says: “Could not load type ‘System.ComponentModel.INotifyPropertyChanging’ from assembly ‘mscorlib.extensions’” with additional information about version numbers. The error is caused by an incompatibility between versions of System.Windows.Interactivity. Because this assembly is strongly named, any version incompatibility is causing the kind of error shown here (for an interesting discussion on the strong naming issue, see this thread on Codeplex). I managed to resolve the issue for Windows Phone 8 and will publish a cleaned up installer next week. In the mean time, in order to allow you to continue development, please follow the steps: Download the new DLLs zip package (MVVMLight_V4_1_25_WP8). Right click on the Zip file and select Properties from the context menu. Press the “Unblock” button (if available) and then OK. Right click again on the zip package and select “Extract all…”. Select a known location for the new DLLs. Open the MVVM Light project with the design time error in Visual Studio 2012. Open the References folder in the Solution Explorer. Select the following DLLs: GalaSoft.MvvmLight.dll, GalaSoft.MvvmLight.Extras.dll, Microsoft.Practices.ServiceLocation.dll and System.Windows.Interactivity.dll. Press “delete” and confirm to remove the DLLs from your project. Right click on References and select Add Reference from the context menu. Browse to the folder with the new DLLs. Select the four new DLLs and press OK. Rebuild your application, and open it again in Blend or in the Visual Studio designer. The error should be gone now. In the next few days, as time allows, I will publish a new MSI containing a fixed version of the DLLs as well as a few other improvements.   • Joomla: Cross site link boxes

    I am currently evaluating Joomla for use on the the rebuild of our corporate website. One of the features our designs have is spaces for what we've been calling widgets. These widgets include common ones for each page, contact us boxes, section navigation, that all seem pretty easy to implement. The other widgets we would us to highlight specific pages within the site relevant to the one you are on, and are therefore different for each article. We've called these link widgets and these are a pretty common site on many websites. I'm honestly at a bit of a loss as to how to do this with Joomla. From a CMS perspective I'd like to allow users to just select which three link widgets they want when editing the article and have some way of creating the widgets within the CMS as well. Editing the link widget would allow setting a title, a bit of text and selecting the page that it links to. Am I going to be able to do this with Joomla, and if I can roughly how to I go about it ?

Here is the speech: All my users are standard users, they got a VirtualBox Hypervisor if they need the administrator rights. But if they put an USB device on the local machine and try to redirect the device to the Virtual Machine, Windows ask for some Administrator rights. I've try to set up those GPO: Allow standard users to install drivers. Install WHQL Drivers: Allow Silently. I don't know how to do this.

  • suPHP permission requirements for all files or only PHP scripts?

    Generally with PHP, files/folders have a permission of 0777 when we want to write to them. suPHP forbids a permission of 0777. Instead, files are supposed to have a permission of 0644 and folders have a permission 0755. However, this is always worded differently SuPHP won't allow chmod of 777 so we need to set all files to 644 and directories to 755 Your scripts and directories can now, only have a maximum of 755 permissions Set file permission(s) to allow read access only by you (e.g., chmod 600 filename.suphp). What is the exact rule and to what files does it apply to? If I have README file somewhere in a nested directory does its permission need to be updated, or does it only apply to .php files?

  • Warning in Apache log: Cannot get media type from 'x-mapp-php5'

    I have no idea what is causing this issue, but it seems to be related to the displayed file (just a simple index.php to print phpinfo) being in an aliased directory. Any suggestions what I can do to avoid the warning? Here's an excerpt from my httpd.conf: <Directory "<dir with broken php>"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks ExecCGI Includes AllowOverride All Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> Alias /smartersoftware/ "<broken dir>" <FilesMatch \.php$> SetHandler application/x-httpd-php </FilesMatch> The last three lines were required to make php work at all (which I found a bit strange, and it may or may not be related to my problem). Adding a AddType application/x-mapp-php5 .php didn't change anything.
