  I have this problem that even before booting into Win7, my laptop gets stuck in a black screen with a blinking keyboard cursor on it. It happened after I formatted one of my other partitions. I have tried everything including bootrec /fixmbr, bootrec /fixboot, and I have even tried using Ubuntu grub to boot windows but unfortunately even grub does not identify my Windows installation. I really don't want to do a reinstalltion of Windows...

  I'm writing this on a MacBook Air 13" (the ones just released), but I have a problem. BootCamp provides no easy way of turning off the bluetooth or wifi radios, and nor are there any hotkey combinations on the keyboard, nor any hard or soft switches on the body to toggle these radios. As I'll be travelling a lot with this machine, what's the best way for me to comply with the cabin service crews' instructions and disable the radios before takeoff, and reenable them after landing?

The closest thing I have found is placing it in standby, but seems to work differently then the sleep button on my keyboard (longer bootup, doesn't wake on mouse click). Any ideas? The computer knows that the time has passed because it will make my monitors display solid black screens. I already tried installing the latest mouse drivers from Microsoft and the problem persists. I also can't find any rhyme or reason to when the problem will happen. The problem happens even when Windows Media Player isn't running.

• Hitting the ctrl button lowers my volume

  I have tried googling this and no one else seems to either have this problem, or find it to be a problem, but it is very annoying to me. Everytime I accidentally hit my ctrl key by itself on my keyboard (I am using windows 7) my volume automatically lowers to a very low volume and then I can't hear anything. It's very annoying whenever I am on a game and/or on skype and I accidentally hit ctrl and then I can't hear anything or anyone!! How can I turn this feature off?

• Black Screen After Sleep (Win 8)

  I have an SSD only, Intel HD Graphics only, Ultrabook running on Windows 8 64-bit and after I turn it back on, after a long sleep of a few hours, the screen remains black even though the power is on (the fan and keyboard backlight are on). I have to force a shut down and switch it back on to use it normally again. Hibernation and hybrid-sleep are turned off. It comes out of sleep of less than an hour just fine. Any advise? Mark

  I have two devices I want maximum throughput and latency with. (Midi drums and midi keyboard for example) Would connecting both to the same USB port via a hub effectively limit the maximum data transfer rate to 1/2 to each of them? I am assuming yes, but I didn't know if USB hubs had a handshaking and priority giving protocol available (e.g. let the device with the longer built up buffer of data communicate first) Thanks

  I you copy/paste some files into a directory that already contains files with the same name you'll get a confirmation dialog "There is already a file with the same name in this location..." To replace all files you have to check "Do this for the next N conflicts" and then click on "Copy and Replace". Is there a keyboard shortcut for this (like there was in XP where you could simply press 'a')?

• What is the function of those film covers on electronic equipment such as mobile screens but also peripheral plastics on a laptop?

  I understand it may "protect" an area but I don't get why the customer gets it and then takes it off after it was being protected in a full box anyway. Also, should those film covers that surround the plastics around a laptop screen (and not the screen itself) and maybe also on the keyboard be kept on as much as possible? I noticed if one tries to keep them on as much as possible they tend to go off by themselves anyway, but anyway, what's the status quo about it?

• GNU Emacs is crashing with -nw

  When I run emacs with -nw option, the emacs really open, but I can't do more nothing. As if the user input is blocked and no keyboard signal is received and/or interpreted. I've tried run without load .emacs file and some other behaviors: emacs -nw -Q --no-desktop --debug-ini foo.c But makes no difference and strangely the GUI-version(using Gtk) is working fine. My gnu-emacs version is GNU Emacs 23.3.1 Any help to help to fix it is very appreciated.

  I am re-branding a website that has both English & Chinese Traditional text. When I am copying + pasting the Chinese text into notepad++, the characters gets displayed as question marks. I tried changing the language settings within notepad++ to Chinese, but it now displays as squashed rectangles. • Control iTunes from Spotlight (or similar)

  Is there some sort add on or program that lets me easily change (and choose) songs using keyboard shortcuts (or perhaps Spotlight)? The ideal program would add iTunes indexing to Spotlight and allow me to change songs by searching for them in Spotlight (but then not switch the focus to iTunes). I do believe that there was a plugin for Launchy on Windows to do a similar thing. Is such a program available?

  Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on my Macbook Pro freezes quite frequently now. It freezes for few seconds and then works fine. During that time trackpad does not work and keyboard works partially (missing keystrokes while I type). Initially it was once or twice in a day but now it has become quite frequent.
