• Creating a tool dockable window for visual studio

  So I have a web service system for mananging development projects, what I would like to do is create a visual studio plugin that accesses the web service and returns a list of tasks for the current users (via some sort of login). Looking round the internet I can't find any good examples or tutorials on how to create a visual studio plugin that can be docked to the bottom of the screen (same place as error list, test results, etc) Does anyone know of a good website I can look at for examples or tutorials of the basics of creating a visual studio plugin, specifically for VS2008?

• File version maintainence via PHP FTP?

  Currently I'm working on a "plugin" that will be installed on many different sites and I was wondering on the best way for me to maintain the file version of this "plugin". Here's what I was thinking. Have a "master copy" of the plugin on a server, then connect via FTP to the target sites and upload the copy to their site overwriting whatever files they may have. I was wondering the best way to go about this. The "plugin" will have many different folders and files so transferring one file at a time will be too tedious. Is there a way to copy an entire folder over at a time? Or even better, is there a way to recurse through the folders and checking for file difference before uploading the new file? This is to make sure we are uploading a new file and not just the same one.

• Java: separating JAR versions

  I'm developing a Java plugin for an existing Java program. The existing program uses a specific version of eclipse.uml2.* and my plugin does too. Unfortunately I need a newer version for my plugin. In order to run the plugin, I need to export it into a Jar file (with all jars packed). Then the program executes it. But somehow the new eclipse.uml2.* seem to interfere with the program - it crashes. Is there a way to "separate" both versions of the jar files?

  I am writing a plugin for another application. I want to support the plugin on multiple platforms, so I am strongly considering using Qt. The plugin needs to be able to show some basic GUI. The plugin interface does not in any way handle GUI - it is just a simple DLL/shared library specified with a C-header file. Can I use Qt inside such a shared library? The calling application might or might not be using Qt itself. Any hints on what to do? Do I need to run a QApplication event-loop in a separate thread? Or can I just call the event-loop myself while waiting for input? (I only need modal dialogs).

  Hi all Is it possible, using spring security plugin 0.5.3 with Grails 1.2.1, to authenticate a user using only one field? I mean, for example, making j_username and j_password fields in the authentication form equal previous to the authentication. I read it was possible to define j_username field in Config.groovy with acegi plugin, in older versions of the plugin. Now it uses SecurityConfig.groovy but the possibility of defining the field exists no more. Any ideas?? Thanks a lot, Miguel

• Is it possible in AvalonDock to programatically change DockableContent state to floating?

  In my application I'm loading windows from 'plugins', so my app doesn't know them until runtime. I'm creating DockableContent for each plugin and sets it's Content to Control returned by plugin. Each plugin tells, if it's window should be initially docked or floating, user can change it later. So I have an instance of DockableContent and I want to change it to FloatingWindow programatically. Changing content.DockableStyle to DockableStyle.Floating isn't enough, what else I have to do?

Now I've got the problem, that people who use my plugin may have a different jQuery Version on their Wordpress Blogs, so what shall I do to manage that? • Why can't my program display this dialog box, while another program can?

  I'm trying to write a wrapper for Winamp input plugins and have hit a bit of a snag. I'd like my wrapper to be able to display a plugin's configuration dialog, which is (or should be) achieved by calling the plugin's Config(HWND hwndParent) function. For most plugins, this works fine and my program is able to display the plugin's configuration dialog. However, 64th Note (a plugin for playing USF files) is giving me problems. Winamp can display its configuration dialog just fine, but whenever I try to display it from my wrapper, the dialog gets destroyed before it ever shows itself. Thankfully, 64th Note is open source, so I took a look at its innards to try and get an idea of what's going wrong. However, it does not appear when I invoke it from my wrapper program. When I monitored the messages sent to the dialog in its proc function, I saw that WM_DESTROY and WM_NCDESTROY were sent within the first few messages, though I have no clue as to why. If I change the Config function so that it displays the plugin's About dialog instead of its configuration dialog, both Winamp and my wrapper will display the About dialog, which suggests that there is something unique to the configuration dialog template that's causing the problem. • Getting the instance when Constructor#newInstance throws?

  I'm working on a simple plugin system, where third party plugins implement a Plugin interface. A directory of JARs is scanned, and the implementing classes are instantiated with Constructor#newInstance. The thing is, these plugins call back into register* methods of the plugin host. These registrations use the Plugin instance as a handle. My problem is how to clean up these registrations if the constructor decides to fail and throw halfway through. InvocationTargetException doesn't seem to have anything on it to get the instance. Is there a way to get at the instance of an exception throwing constructor? P.S.: It's typically strongly advised to users that the constructor not do anything, but in practice people are doing it any ways.

• Safari's never-ending loading message when an iframe does not have a src

  I'm using @rem's jQuery :visited plugin to do something with visited links on a page. The plugin works by creating an invisible iframe, injecting the HTML source, and comparing the colour of links to see which have been visited. It works perfectly. The problem I have is that on Safari, the status bar message always hangs on "Loading (X-1) of X items" - i.e. it thinks there is still some resource still needing to be loaded. I've narrowed it down to this plugin, and the fact that it attaches the IFRAME element to the BODY before the src is set (or injected in this case). I've tried rearranging the code to set the src before the append happens, but that breaks the plugin's functionality. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this issue? It's not a major issue as the site still functions perfectly well, but it's an annoying glitch that could be confusing to users.
