• GQL Query with __key__ in List of KEYs

  In the GQL reference [1], it is encouraged to use the IN keyword with a list of values, and to construct a Key from hand the GQL query SELECT * FROM MyModel WHERE __key__ = KEY('MyModel', 'my_model_key') will succeed. However, using the code you would expect to work: SELECT * FROM MyModel WHERE __key__ IN (KEY('MyModel', 'my_model_key1'), KEY('MyModel', 'my_model_key2')) in the Datastore Viewer, there is a complaint of "Invalid GQL query string." What is the correct way to format such a query? [1] http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/python/datastore/gqlreference.html PS I know there are more efficient ways to do this in Python (without constructing a GQL query) and using the remote_api, but each call to the remote_api counts against quota. In an environment where quota is not (necessarily) free, quick and dirty queries are very helpful.

  I have created the following interface public interface ISolutionSpace { public boolean isFeasible(); public boolean isSolution(); public Set<ISolutionSpace> generateChildren(); } However, in the implementation of ISolutionSpace in a class called EightQueenSolutionSpace, I am going to return a set of EightQueenSolutionSpace instances, like the following stub: @Override public Set<ISolutionSpace> generateChildren() { return new HashSet<EightQueenSolutionSpace>(); } However this stub wont compile. What changes do I need to make? EDIT: I tried 'HashSet' as well and had tried using the extends keyword. However since 'ISolutionSpace' is an interface and EightQueenSolutionSpace is an implementation(and not a subclass) of 'ISolutionSpace', it is still not working.

  Sometimes the simplest questions make me love C/C++ and C# more and more. Today sitting on the bus musing aout delegates I remembered reading somwhere you don't need to use the new keyword when instaniating a new delegate. For example: public static void SomeMethod(string message) { ... } ... public delegate void TestDelgate(string message); //Define a delegate ........... //create a new instance ..METHOD 1 TestDelgate t = new TestDelgate(SomeMethod); //OR another way to create a new instance ..METHOD 2 TestDelgate t = SomeMethod; //create a new instance ..METHOD 2 So todays questions are What happens under the hood in method 2. Does the compiler expand method 2 into method 1, hence writing TestDelgate t = SomeMethod; is just a shortcut for TestDelgate t = new TestDelgate(SomeMethod);, or is there another reason for the exsitence of method 2 Do you guys think method 1 or method 2 is better for readability (this is a subjective question, but I'd just like to get a unscientific feel of general opinion of stackoverflow :-))

  Hello everybody, I have to populate javascript code in html layout (hidden fields, method params) with string data from model. Html.Encode is not appropriate for my task because it encodes ' symbol, bypass : (that ruines object attributes declaration) and so on. I wrote static helper class that is used from View like this: alert('<%=ViewHelper.MakeJavaScriptSafe(Model.Message)%>'); I hope there is asp.net in-built function I don't know about for this task. • Can you pass parameters for OnAction in MS Project VBA?

  The way I can define a method to be executed with OnAction in VBA with Microsoft Project is as follows (and works correctly): .OnAction = "Macro ""DoSomething""" ... where DoSomething is the method to execute. I would like to pass a parameter to that method but can't find a way to pass it with this syntax. Does anybody have an idea how to do this? I'm getting the feeling that this is an impossible task, but maybe there's some VBA secret I'm not aware of. Please note that VBA in MS Project seems to have its quirks and is slightly different than VBA for Excel or Access. This seems to be the case for the OnAction property which needs the extra Macro keyword to work correctly. If I'm wrong here please enlighten me.

• javascript window.location gives me a wrong url path when checking firebug

  I have a sample url website: http://mysite.com/ var host = window.location.protocol+"://"+window.location.hostname; $.ajax({ type:"POST", data: params, url : host+'/forms/get_data.php', success:function(data){ ...othercodeblahblah } }); Why is it that when I try to check my firebug it makes the URL weird. This is the sample output of firebug: http://mysite.com/mysite.com/forms/get_data.php With this url it now gives me: "NetworkError: 404 Not Found - http://mysite.com/mysite.com/forms/get_data.php" Shouldn't it output like http://mysite.com/forms/get_data.php ? Why is it giving me a wrong url path? Your help would be greatly appreciated and rewarded! Thank!

For the last field on the form, I want to have a checkbox that doesn't need to be stored as part of the User record, but it is needed for the controller. • Show a modal right after signup?

  When a user signup at my page I want them to be redirected to the root_path(this I have figured out how to do in the user controller). But then I want a modal to show in front of this page(and this should only happen the first time the user see this root/home page(like a flash message). Here is my create method in the user controller: def create @user = User.new(params[:user]) if @user.save sign_in @user redirect_to root_path else render 'new' end end The modal is placed in app/views/layouts/_modal.html.erb. • Why are some C#4 features allowed even when targeting 3.5?

  We upgraded to VS 2010, but we haven't yet upgraded to .NET 4.0. All of our projects are still explicitly targeting 3.5. Today, a developer checked in code that looked like this: delegate T Generator<out T>(); As far as I know, "in T" and "out T" are C# 4.0 features. According to our build server, which doesn't have .NET 4.0 installed on it, I'm right. The check-in broke the build. But, why the heck does it build on his machine? Why is VS just ignoring the target framework for the project? Other C# 4.0 features, like the dynamic keyword, do not build on the developer's machine.

  Possible Duplicate: Use of var keyword in C# I have ReSharper, which is a pretty good tool to remind me of some good programming practices.. for example it always recommends that I use the most narrowed convention I can use when passing variables to functions (such as recommending IEnumerable instead of List when I fail to use any of List's specific function. Awesome. However, one of its new behaviors (for C# 4.0) is to remind me at every opportunity to use 'var' when declaring variables. Now I know that there are some valid uses of 'var', but do I really want to use it all the time? I'm sure that ReSharper has a reason for this, but I can't figure it out.. for me it makes the code less readable..

I want to rename the column of table at sql server 2005, following query I have run at sql server2005: 1) ALTER TABLE Details RENAME COLUMN AccountID TO UID; but it gives me the error: Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'COLUMN'. 2)I have added one new column in the table by query: ALTER TABLE Details ADD BID uniqueidentifier; and then I want to set the coulmn property to not null . Since the list of keywords is dynamic I cannot build a fixed query here. if I do something like this: foreach (string kw in keywords) { query = query.Where(p => p.Name.StartsWith(kw)); } The "StartsWith" is required here because I need to search those records that actually start with the provided keyword. In T-SQL it Would be something like this Select * from Table where Name like 'keyword1%' or Name like 'keyword2%' or Name like 'keyword3%' or ... But I need to be able to do this in LINQ...Is this possible?
