• Overlay WriteableBitmap with color

  I'm trying to overlay a WriteableBitmap with a certain color in Silverlight. I have a black and white base image, which I'm using to create smaller WriteableBitmap images for a new composite image and I want to overlay either the black or white part of the source image cut-out with a certain color before adding it to the composite image. What I'm doing now is: var cutOut = new WriteableBitmap(8, 14); /* cut out the image here */ cutOut.Render(sourceImage, transform); // sourceImage is the base image cutOutImage.Source = cutOut; // cutOutImage is an Image element in XAML compositeImage.Render(cutOutImage, transform2); // compositeImage is the final WriteableBitmap that is shown on screen I tried the methods on http://blogs.silverarcade.com/silverlight-games-101/15/silverlight-blitting-and-blending-with-silverlights-writeablebitmap/ and using the extension methods from hxxp://writeablebitmapex.codeplex.com/, but I cannot seem to get a color overlay on the cutOut image before rendering it to the compositeImage. • Binding from View-Model to View-Model of a child User Control in Silverlight? 2 sources - 1 target..

  Hi there, So i have a UserControl for one of my Views and have another 'child' UserControl inside that. The outer 'parent' UserControl has a Collection on its View-Model and a Grid control on it to display a list of Items. I want to place another UserControl inside this UserControl to display a form representing the details of one Item. The outer / parent UserControl's View-Model already has a property on it to hold the currently selected Item and i would like to bind this to a DependancyProperty on the inner / child UserControl. I would then like to bind that DependancyProperty to a property on the child UserControl's View-Model. I can then set the DependancyProperty once in XAML with a binding expression and have the child UserControl do all its work in its View-Model like it should. The code i have looks like this.. • Where to place ClientAccessPolicy.xml for Local WCF Service?

  I'm trying to create a basic WCF Service and Silverlight client. I've followed the following tutorial: http://channel9.msdn.com/shows/Endpoint/Endpoint-Screencasts-Creating-Your-First-WCF-Client/ Since Silverlight 4 was incompatible with the WSHttpBinding, I changed it to BasicHttpBinding. Unfortunately I keep getting this error now: "An error occurred while trying to make a request to URI'**'.This could be due to attempting to access a service in a cross-domain way without a proper cross-domain policy in place, or a policy that is unsuitable for SOAP services. You may need to contact the owner of the service to publish a cross-domain policy file and to ensure it allows SOAP-related HTTP headers to be sent." I placed clientaccesspolicy.xml in the root directory of the WCF project (which is in the same solution as the Silverlight client). This did not solve the problem. What do I need to do?

• Host a streaming video in my client, from a streaming url that is behind a login session?

  I am building a Silverlight 4 desktop client to show streaming video from a site that is login based. So that website has a Silverlight player that does streaming video, the player is behind a login sesion, so just by getting the url from fiddler and trying to play it in my Silverlight 4 desktop client won't work. Actually after that, I want to build a Windows Media Center plugin to build a Netflix-like client, that allows login through WMC and then allows you to watch streaming video. Any pointers on how to go about doing any of this?

  Would a RSA encrypted Diffie-Hellman handshake enable secure communication? I'm encrypting communication from a silverlight client to a php webservice. The silverlight client initiates they key agreement by sending the RSA public key encrypted DH parameters to the webservice. Only the webservice has the private key, so a MITM attack is not possible. The webservice sends plain text answer back to the client, and a key is agreed upon. This key is then used to encrypt communication between the webservice and silverlight client with AES, which is also encrypted with the RSA public key. Does anyone see a flaw?

If I then debug inside the page.aspx code (which of course is ASP .NET) the value of Request["pasword"] is actually this, vtakyoj#"5 Which is the original value. How does that work? I would have thought that I would have to go, HttpUtility.UrlDecode(Request["pswd"], Encoding.UTF8) To get the original value. Hope this makes sense? Thanks.

  I've created a WCF service and added it to an existing Silverlight application that I am working on. When I run the silverlight application in debug mode it fails when I reference the WCF web service. Unrecognized element '' in service reference configuration. Note that only a subset of the Windows Communication Foundation configuration functionality is available in Silverlight. After searching around apparently the following line is causing the app to fail: <transport> <extendedProtectionPolicy policyEnforcement="Never" /> </transport> After removing the above lines everything works. What is the issue here? Should I believing this code in and configuring something else?

  In a Silverlight application I have large images which have flow charts on them. I need to handle the clicks on specific hotspots of the image where the flow chart boxes are. Since the flow charts will always be different, the information of where the hotspots has to be dynamic, e.g. in a list of coordinates. I've found article like this one but don't need the detail of e.g. the outline of countries but just simple rectangle and circle areas. I've also found articles where they talk about overlaying an HTML image map over the silverlight application, but it has to be easier than this. What is the best way to handle clicks on specific areas of an image in silverlight?

  Hi, I am using Silverlight 3 and I am trying to take a screenshot of esri map. I was able to take a screenshot and save as a file for silverlight controls, but when I try to access Esri map image, I get "Pixel access not allowed" error. I heard this is because of different domain (I am trying to get map image on the client side, and map image is not accessible at server side in my silverlight application). So I am trying to find a function from esri so that I can save the map image as a file. does anybody know how to do this? or any other way around?

  I am developing a Facebook Card Game for my thesis and i am wondering which architecture fits best? I am going to develop the game using Silverlight + ASP.NET. On the one side the game should contain player vs. player card games. On the other there will be also a lot of contant similar to Mafia Wars(or any other game like that) where you just interact with the server (incl. database) I read a lot about ASP.NET MVC, Silverlight MVVM and that stuff.   When you create a Silverlight Business Application you get a Silverlight application and a Web application. In the Web/Resources folder of the Silverlight app there are links to the files in the Resources folder of the Web app. These links are exactly like the files they link to in that they are heirarchical with the Resource.Designer.cs file shown as a code-behind file for the Resource.resx file When I try to link to a Resource file in this way I only get the .resx file unless I link to the .Designer.cs file separately. However in this case the Designer.cs file is then shown as a standard code file and not related to the .resx file. Does anyone know how to do this linking correctly?

  I'm having a go at moving one of our simpler apps to Silverlight (a bit of a learning exercise). I've quickly come unstuck as I can't figure out how to load (or bind maybe?) a csv file to a datagrid (i.e. so you can point the app at a local csv file and display it to the user). I do have boilerplate code to parse a csv file and return a datatable but I'm shocked to discover that Silverlight doesn't even support DataTable (wtf!). Any ideas at all how to do this? How do people bind data to a datagrid anyhow? I'm using Silverlight 3.0 included in VS2010.

• Is there an "embedded DBMS" to support multiple writer applications (processes) on the same db files

  I need to know if there is any embedded DBMS (preferably in Java and not necessarily relational) which supports multiple writer applications (processes) on the same set of db files. BerkeleyDB supports multiple readers but just one writer. I need multiple writers and multiple readers. UPDATE: It is not a multiple connection issue. I mean I do not need multiple connections to a running DBMS application (process) to write data. I need multiple DBMS applications (processes) to commit on the same storage files. HSQLDB, H2, JavaDB (Derby) and MongoDB do not support this feature. I think that there may be some File System limitations that prohibit this. If so, is there a File System that allows multiple writers on a single file? Use Case: The use case is a high-throughput clustered system that intends to store its high-volume business log entries into a SAN storage. Storing business logs in separate files for each server does not fit because query and indexing capabilities are needed on the whole biz logs. Because "a SAN typically is its own network of storage devices that are generally not accessible through the regular network by regular devices", I want to use SAN network bandwidth for logging while cluster LAN bandwidth is being used for other server to server and client to server communications.

• Static Data Structures on Embedded Devices (Android in particular)

  I've started working on some Android applications and have a question regarding how people normally deal with situations where you have a static data set and have an application where that data is needed in memory as one of the standard java collections or as an array. In my current specific issue i have a spreadsheet with some pre-calculated data. It consists of ~100 rows and 3 columns. 1 Column is a string, 1 column is a float, 1 column is an integer. I need access to this data as an array in java. It seems like i could: 1) Encode in XML - This would be cpu intensive to decode in my experience. 2) build into SQLite database - seems like a lot of overhead for static access to data i only need array style access to in ram. 3) Build into binary blob and read in. (never done this in java, i miss void *) 4) Build a python script to take the CSV version of my data and spit out a java function that adds the values to my desired structure with hard coded values. 5) Store a string array via androids resource mechanism and compute the other 2 columns on application load. In my case the computation would require a lot of calls to Math.log, Math.pow and Math.floor which i'd rather not have to do for load time and battery usage reasons. I mostly work in low power embedded applications in C and as such #4 is what i'm used to doing in these situations. It just seems like it should be far easier to gain access to static data structures in java/android. Perhaps I'm just being too battery usage conscious and in my single case i imagine the answer is that it doesn't matter much, but if every application took that stance it could begin to matter. What approaches do people usually take in this situation? Anything I missed?

• Flex - Flash Builder Design View not showing embedded fonts correctly

  Tools: Air 2, Flex SDK 4.1, Flash Builder, Halo component set (NO Spark being used at all) Fonts work perfectly when running the appliction, but not in design view. This effectively makes design view WORTHLESS because it's impossible to properly position components or labels without knowing what the true size is (it changes depending on font...) ... CSS included in root component like so: <fx:Style source="style.css"/> CSS file: /* CSS file */ @namespace mx "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx"; global { font-family:Segoe; font-size:14; color:#FFFFFF; } mx|Application, mx|VBox, mx|HBox, mx|Canvas { font-family:Segoe; background-color:#660000; border-color:#222277; color:#FFFFFF; } mx|Button { font-family:Segoe; fill-colors:#660000, #660000, #660000, #660000; color:#FFFFFF; } .... Interestingly (or buggily?), when I try pasting the style tag into a subcomponent (lower than the top level container), I get a bunch of warnings in the subcomponent editor view stating that CSS type selectors are not supported in.. (all the components in the style sheet). Yet, they do work when the application is executed. Huh? • h2 (embedded mode ) database files problem

  There is a h2-database file in my src directory (Java, Eclipse): h2test.db The problem: starting the h2.jar from the command line (and thus the h2 browser interface on port 8082), I have created 2 tables, 'test1' and 'test2' in h2test.db and I have put some data in them; when trying to access them from java code (JDBC), it throws me "table not found exception". A "show tables" from the java code shows a resultset with 0 rows. Also, when creating a new table ('newtest') from the java code (CREATE TABLE ... etc), I cannot see it when starting the h2.jar browser interface afterwards; just the other two tables ('test1' and 'test2') are shown (but then the newly created table 'newtest' is accessible from the java code). I'm inexperienced with embedded databases; I believe I'm doing something fundamentally wrong here. My assumption is, that I'm accessing the same file - once from the java app, and once from the h2 console-browser interface. I cannot seem to understand it, what am I doing wrong here?

• Embedded Vimeo Video Callbacks

  This post is kind of a follow up to a post I made earlier in regards to HTML5 video callbacks. In that thread, I was given a great piece of code that would allow for the browser to be informed of when the video stops playing and then fire off an action (with jQuery). This is the code I'm currently using: $('video.normal').bind('ended', function(){ $(this).fadeOut().queue(function(){ $(this).siblings('.post-video').fadeIn(); $(this).dequeue(); }); }); Which basically fades the video out when it's completed and brings a poster frame of the video (or similar image) back into view. Well, the scope of the project has changed and now the client is asking for true full screen video and different size videos to be delivered based on user connection speed, something that's a little over my head and a lot over budget. So I've been researching and a Vimeo Plus player seems like a great alternative for visitors using a desktop browser (HD embeds, true full screen, and more). Thing is, I need that above code to continue working in some capacity or another, so does the embedded Vimeo player offer a similar callback that I can utilize? Or am I SOL here? Thanks in advance!
