  If you're in a situation where the system is panic'ing during boot, you can use # boot net -s to regain control of your system. In my case, I'd added some diagnostic code to a (PCI) driver (that is used to boot the root filesystem).   The size (in bytes) of games have been growing over time. There are probably many factors contributing to this: trailer/cut scene videos being bundled with the game, more and higher-quality audio, multiple levels of detail being used, etc. What I'd really like to know is how the size of 3D models and textures that games ship with have changed over time. For example, if one were to look at the size of meshes and textures for Quake I (1996), Quake II (1997), Quake III: Arena (1999), Quake 4 (2005), and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (2007), I'd imagine a steady increase in file size. Does anyone know of a data source for numbers like this?

  I recently tried to install Ubuntu 14 Lts alongside Windows XP pro on my 2005 dell dimension E510. Everything appeared to be working correctly until I tried to log in, at which point it froze with a blank color background, which would flicker to black every other time I hit a key or clicked the mouse. I then tried booting in graphical safe mode at which point it told me that it could not configure the graphics settings. Does any body know what's going on. Thank you for any suggestions.

  I'm sole developer of a complex critical software system, written in Visual C++ 2005. It's deployed on a classical Microsoft cluster scenario (active/passive), that has Windows Server 2003 R2. If a server A goes down, the other one (B) starts and take the ownership of its duties. You have to know that: Both servers have the same Microsoft patches/fixes, same hardware, same everything. Both servers use the same memory storage (a RAID-6 through fiber channel). This software has a main module that launches the peripheral modules. if a peripheral module crashes, the main module restarts it. When I switch the application in one of the two servers (let's say the B server) two of the peripheral modules of the main applications just started to crash apparently without reason about 2 seconds after the start of the peripheral module. What could I do to analyze/inspect/resolve this weird situation?

  I'm trying to install ubunutu 12.04 on my 2005 PowerMac G5. I've burnt ubuntu-12.04-desktop-powerpc.iso. I try to boot from the live cd. I hit 'enter' to load the live environment. The kernel seems to be fine but then I get this: kernel panic - not syncing vfs unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(1,0) Then it says rebooting in 180........ and hangs. I can't do anything.   The optimistic concurrency model assumes that several concurrent transactions can usually complete without interfering with each other, and therefore do not require draconian locking on the resources they access. SQL Server 2005, and later, implements a form of this model called row versioning concurrency. It works by remembering the value of the data at the start of the transaction and checking that no other transaction has modified it before committing.   Hi, My W2K3 server was running TFS 2008 SP1, SQL Server 2005 Development edition. I installed SQL Server 2008 Standard. I installed it while leaving SQL Server 2005 alone. Upgrading was not possible due to the differences in editions of the SQL Servers. Now TFS is broken. On a client computer, if I go Team - Connect to Team Foundation Server, I get this error: Team Foundation services are not available from server myserver. Technical information (for administrator): TF30059: Fatal error while initializing web service. So I head on over to my event viewer on the server. Under Application, I see one warning and two errors.
