  • How to install DBD::mysql on OS X Server 10.6?

    Trying to install DBD::mysql on OS X Server 10.6 (mac mini server). But I'm missing the mysql headers apparently. Since mysql is already part of OS X Server 10.6, I would like to NOT install anything else (no fink or darwin ports installs), just whatever's needed to get DBD::mysql installed and working. Do you know how I could do that? Do I have to install the headers somewhere? And if so, where? (again: I don't want to install another version of mysql on the box, want to use the version it came with). Is there a way to install DBD::mysql without compiling any C files? This is the error I get (the actual error is much longer, but these are the most meaningful bits, this is the first error reported). Checking if your kit is complete...   • Where does PGP keep its license file within OS X?

    I was using a trial from PGP. Now have a license supplied by the company I work for. Upon trying to overwrite/upgrade - PGP is reporting that its using the 'old', namely trial license. Which has long expired. How can I completely rid my machine of PGP - and thus be able to install a fresh copy? Where does this pesky license file reside? OS: 10.6.2 PGP: 10

  • Where does $PATH get set in OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard?

    I type echo $PATH on the command line and get /opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/Users/andrew/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/mysql/bin:/usr/local/pear/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11/bin:/opt/local/bin:/usr/local/git/bin I'm wondering where this is getting set since my .bash_login file is empty. I'm particularly concerned that, after installing MacPorts, it installed a bunch of junk in /opt. I don't think that directory even exists in a normal Mac OS X install.   • Can I mount a volume at /Users on OS X?

    I'm considering purchasing a SSD for my Macbook Pro. Unfortunately, I can't afford a large one, so I'm thinking of moving the current hard drive to the optical bay. On a Linux system, I would mount the second drive at /home. Given that OS X is Unix, I'm thinking it should be possible to do the same thing. Has anyone done this before? Edit: I should mention I'm running Snow Leopard.

  • How to maintain tabs when pasting in Vim

    I use the tab key to indent my python code in Vim, but whenever I copy and paste a block Vim replaces every tab with 4 spaces, which raises an IndentationError I tried setting :set paste as suggested in related questions but it makes no difference Other sites suggest pasting 'tabless' code and using the visual editor to re-indent, but this is asking for trouble when it comes to large blocks Are there any settings I can apply to vim to maintain tabs on copy/paste?   • On OS X, what is pubsubagent and why does it connect so many places?

    I use Little Snitch to monitor network connections on OS X, and I frequently see attempts by something called pubsubagent to connect to many varying sites. What is this program for and why does it use so many connections? According to this article it's used by .me sync to synchronize RSS feeds and bookmarks. But I don't have any RSS feeds. And if it's synching bookmarks, then why is it going to places like 'l.google.com' (and many more random ones) instead of just to .me?
