• How to disable proxy requests once a server has been added to spammers "open proxy" list?

  Hello all, I've just started in a new company, and have been going over the setup of their Apache webserver conf files... only to find that they've had their apache servers set up as open proxies available to all the world for the last two months. I've already set ProxyRequests Off in the httpd.conf file and restarted the web server, but the access log file is still growing at a horrendous rate (about a gig a day). I noticed that another question was posted on here about this (http://serverfault.com/questions/63715/apache-hit-with-proxy-request), but their access log was supposedly returning 404 errors, while mine appears to be returning 403 and 404 codes... Is this correct? I understand that in Linux applications can allocate more memory than physically available. I don't know if this is the problme, it's the first time that it has started to happen. Obviously, the MySQL server tries to restart, but there's no memory for it apparently and it won't restart. Here is its error log: Plugin 'FEDERATED' is disabled. The InnoDB memory heap is disabled Mutexes and rw_locks use GCC atomic builtins Compressed tables use zlib 1.2.3.4 Initializing buffer pool, size = 128.0M InnoDB: mmap(137363456 bytes) failed; errno 12 Completed initialization of buffer pool Fatal error: cannot allocate memory for the buffer pool Plugin 'InnoDB' init function returned error. Plugin 'InnoDB' registration as a STORAGE ENGINE failed. Unknown/unsupported storage engine: InnoDB [ERROR] Aborting [Note] /usr/sbin/mysqld: Shutdown complete I simply restarted the Mysql service. About two hours later it happened again. I restarted it. Then it happened again 9 hours later. So then I thought of the MaxClients parameter of apache.conf, so I went to check it out. It was set at 150. I decided to drop it down to 60. As so: <IfModule mpm_prefork_module> ... MaxClients 60 </IfModule> <IfModule mpm_worker_module> ... MaxClients 60 </IfModule> <IfModule mpm_event_module> ... MaxClients 60 </IfModule> Once I did that, I had the apache2 service restart and it all went smoothly for 3/4 of a day. Since at night the MySQL service shut down once again, but this time it wasn't killed by the Apache2 service. Some articles state that the ideal thing to do is change the kernel behaviour with the following (include it to the file /etc/sysctl.conf ) vm.overcommit_memory = 2 vm.overcommit_ratio = 80 So no overcommits will take place. I'm wondering if this is the way to go? Keep in mind I'm no server administrator, I have basic knowldege. Thanks a bunch in advance.

It then asks for an incoming mail server. I put account type equal to POP, the incoming mail server equal to the host in my email address, and my username and password. It comes back with the error: "Logging in to the POP server "" failed. Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct, then click Continue. If the information isn't correct, you cannot receive messages." While the dialogs are different in Thunderbird, I believe that I am giving it exactly the same parameters, and succeeding with authentication.

• Stopping an specify Apache instance

  I have two Apache instances setup in my server (Solaris 10): Instance 1: /etc/apache2 Instance 2: /etc/apache2-instance2 To start the instance 1, I execute the following command: /usr/apache2/bin/apachectl -f /etc/apache2/httpd.conf And instance 2: /usr/apache2/bin/apachectl -f /etc/apache2-instance2/httpd.conf Both instances run perfectly, however the problem comes when I want to stop the instances. I have not been able to find a parameter to indicate what instance I want to stop. if I execute this command: /usr/apache2/bin/apachectl -k stop It will stop always the Instance 1 (the default one). The only solution that I could find to stop the instance 2 was to do this: kill -TERM 'cat /var/run/apache2-instance2/httpd.pid' Is this the only way to do it? or what is the best solution? I remember that I did something similar in Ubuntu setting a the global variable APACHE_CONFDIR before calling apachectl

Now, the Java versions on the two machines are slightly different. Both the machines have Sun's java, the Linux machine has 1.6.0_10, while the Windows machine has 1.6.0_08, or maybe 07 or 06, I can't remember the exact number right now, and don't have the machine at hand. But even though the minor versions of the Javas are slightly different, the code shouldn't break like this. Does anyone understand what's wrong here?

• Files served from Apache are slower than other methods

  Hi I have a vps with a 1Gb/s line, when running apps on the server I can get (be it not full) reasonable speeds, but when downloading files through apache from this server I never reach close to my line speed usually 600kb/s where I know the line should be able to comfortably do 1MB/s and more. What can I do to increase the download speeds. Is there maybe a freeware or opensource php script that will increase my speeds? Note. I have confirmed that my server can upload at more than 1MB/s, also that I can download at 1MB/s or more. Also I want to increase the speeds without a download accelerator. Thanks for any help.

  I am running Apache 2.2.17 on Suse Linux 11. I have installed the mod_authn_dbd module to allow authentication using a MySQL database. Simple digest authentication works absolutely fine using the following directive: AuthDBDUserRealmQuery "SELECT loginPassword FROM login WHERE loginUser = %s and loginRealm = %s" However, I would like to both generalize this statement and prepare it for performance and security reasons. (Note I have tried using '?' and '%%' in place of '%', to no effect.)

  We're trying to setup an SSL server in front of a Weblogic server using Apache as the SSL provider.   I'm working on collision resolution for my game. I just need a good way to get an object out of another object if it gets stuck. In this case a car. Here is a typical scenario. The red car is in the green object. How do I correctly get it out so the car can slide along the edge of the object as it should.   Below is an illustration: I have an OBB in an OBB (see below for OBB2D code if needed). What I need to determine is, what face it is in, and what direction do I point the normal? The goal is to get the OBB out of the OBB so the normal needs to face outward of the OBB. How could I go about: Finding what face the line is penetrating given the 4 corners of the OBB and the class below: if we define dx=x2-x1 and dy=y2-y1, then the normals are (-dy, dx) and (dy, -dx).   Lately I have been receiving a lot of segmentation fault warnings on my web-server. The warnings look like: [notice] child pid xxxx exit signal Segmentation fault (11) I have consulted with the server provider (it is a dedicated redhat enterprise server) and they could not find anything. What I have done so far: Since the error I have already tried the following: I have added more ram I have turned off / turned on several php modules (they sent me to a web-page someone had the same problem, caused by an excessive amount of php modules) At the moments the warnings occur, there seems to be plenty of free ram left and the number of processes is very low (the number of httpd processes is about a quarter of the maximum allowed). What can be causing these errors? Edit: current versions apache: 2.0.52 php: 5.2.8 RHEL 4 Edit 2: Although I asked this a long time ago, I never was able to solve it until I upgraded to php 5.3.

• PHP script timed out, or otherwise killed on Apache under CentOS (shared host)

  When trying to run a PHP script (CentOS, Apache, PHP 5.2), that may take a long time, it is apparently killed after 45 minutes. PHP script is invoked from a web browser, and in certain situations, it will do a lot of work processing a POP3 mailbox and sending emails as part of an automated monitoring system. Running the PHP script from the command line might be a better option, but I want to understand what is going on so far. I ran a test script, and it appeared to finally give an internal server error (500?) after 45 minutes. Where is this limit set and what is killing the script, if that is what is happening? It's running on a shared host on Hostgator.com.

• MailMan error logging in Apache

  I am working on a MailMan implementation using Fedora 12. I have it set up and running but I was looking at what happens if someone tries to brute force a password on the web GUI and found that MailMan doesn't log these errors at all or I'm completely looking in the wrong place. I have tried both /var/log/httpd and /var/log/mailman and didn't see any authentication errors. I have also tried bumping up the Apache log level and still didn't see anything. I was wondering if there was a way to turn this type of logging on or if there was any other way to be notified about it. Thanks.

  Hello, I'm looking for the proper way to share the Coldfusion engine for all my Virtual Hosts. My question is, is there any way to share the same Coldfusion instance for every virtual host, mantaining the sites webroot outside of the cfusion folder?   I am using Apache Friends (XAMPP). I installed it under C: drive. Its path is C:\xampp\ Its default root is C:\xampp\htdocs.Thus, all programs need to reside in C:\xampp\htdocs\ so that we can run http://localhost/myapp/ PhpMyAdmin comes along with XAMPP, but it resides in C:\xampp\ and it can be run from /localhost/phpMyAdmin/. When my application is moved to C:\xampp\, I cannot run it /localhost/myapp. I would like to have two server root C:\xampp\ and C:\xampp\htdocs\ so that I can separate my private apps and public apps in different folders. And both can be run from http://localhost/ such as /localhost/myprivateapp/ and /localhost/mypublicapp/ How can I do that ? I'm on Windows XP.

• Fedora vs Ubuntu to host Subversion and Bugzilla over Apache

  I'm not interested in a flame war of Ubuntu vs Fedora vs whatever. What I am interested in is whether or not I should move my current Ubuntu server to Fedora. I have been able to get Subversion setup and hosted via Apache over https and it works quite well (I'm a .NET guy so this was all new to me). I'm having trouble though with installing Bugszilla - have run into some issues getting all the perl scripts to run successfully so my questions are: 1) Will Bugszilla will install easier on Fedora? Can I just install a package instead of having to download the tar.gz file and untar it, run perl scripts, etc. 2) Is Fedora considered to be a better production server system? I have no desire for a GUI, just need it to host Subversion, Bugzilla over Apache2, and act as a file and print server for my home network.

• DELETE method not working in Apache 2.4

  I'm running Apache 2.4 locally and dealing with RESTful services authenticating through OAuth. GET, PUT and POST work fine but I can't get DELETE to work. I've tried installing WebDAV and mod_dav, overriding methods in .htaccess, tried Limits, force (enable) DELETE options in configuration and pretty much everything I've found in Google and StackExchange.
