  • Design Patterns Recommendation for Filtering Option

    Hi people, I am thinking to create a filter object which filters and delete everything like html tags from a context. But I want it to be independent which means the design pattern I can apply will help me to add more filters in the future without effecting the current codes. I thought Abstract Factory but it seems it ain't gonna work out the way I want. So maybe builder but it looks same. I don't know I am kinda confused, some one please recommend me a design pattern which can solve my problem but before that let me elaborate the problem a little bit. Lets say I have a class which has Description field or property what ever. And I need filters which remove the things I want from this Description property. So whenever I apply the filter I can add more filter in underlying tier. So instead of re-touching the Description field, I can easily add more filters and all the filters will run for Description field and delete whatever they are supposed to delete from the Description context. I hope I could describe my problem. I think some of you ran into the same situation before. Thanks in advance...

  • 'Hot code replace' not working -- Eclipse doesn't change any code on JBoss

    Hello, fellow visitors! I'm currently experiencing a problem with 'hot code replace' not working on Eclipse Galileo and JBoss 4.2.3. Among other applications I'm running an exploded Java WAR on my local JBoss. The project from which it is build is managed by Maven. I build the project using the Maven goal war:exploded and then I copy that directory to JBoss with an ANT script. When I'm now running the application and set a breakpoint anywhere in the code, Eclipse properly halts at that line in the debug mode. But when I'm making a change to the source file and save it, Eclipse doesn't apply this change to the JBoss. For example, when I make a normal code line into a comment, the debugger still steps over this comment as if it was regular Java code. Or when I remove a line, the debugger seems to get out of sync with the file and starts stepping over parenthesis. But I'm not getting any 'hot code replace error'-messages either. It seems to me that Eclipse applies the changes to the source files, but doesn't apply it to the JBoss. Are there any special preferences that have to be turned on in order to make hot code replace work? Or are there any mistakes in how I build and deploy the application to the JBoss?   • XML Schema Migration

    I am working on a project where we need to save data in an XML format. The problem is, over time we expect the format / schema for our data to change. What we want to be able to do is to produce scripts to migrate our data across different schema versions. We distribute our product to thousands of customers so we need to be able to run / apply these scripts at customer sites (so we can't just do the conversions by hand). I think that what we are looking for is some kind of XML data migration tool. In my mind the ideal tool could: Do an "XML diff" of two schema to identify added/deleted/changed nodes. Allow us to specify transformation functions. So, for example, we might add a new element to our schema that is a function of the old elements. (E.g. a new element C where C = A+B, A + B are old elements). So I think I am looking for a kind of XML diff and patch tool which can also apply transformation functions. One tool I am looking at for this is Altova's MapForce . I'm sure others here have had to deal with XML data format migration. How did you handle it? Edit: One point of clarification. The "diff" I plan to do is on the schema or .xsd files. The actual changes will be made to particular data sets that follow a given schema. These data sets will be .xml files. So its a "diff" of the schema to help figure out what changes need to be made to data sets to migrate them from one scheme to another.

  • What are some strategies for maintaining a common database schema with a team of developers and no D

    I'm curious about how others have approached the problem of maintaining and synchronizing database changes across many (10+) developers without a DBA? What I mean, basically, is that if someone wants to make a change to the database, what are some strategies to doing that? (i.e. I've created a 'Car' model and now I want to apply the appropriate DDL to the database, etc..) We're primarily a Python shop and our ORM is SQLAlchemy. Previously, we had written our models in such a way to create the models using our ORM, but we recently ditched this because: We couldn't track changes using the ORM The state of the ORM wasn't in sync with the database (e.g. lots of differences primarily related to indexes and unique constraints) There was no way to audit database changes unless the developer documented the database change via email to the team. Our solution to this problem was to basically have a "gatekeeper" individual who checks every change into the database and applies all accepted database changes to an accepted_db_changes.sql file, whereby the developers who need to make any database changes put their requests into a proposed_db_changes.sql file. We check this file in, and, when it's updated, we all apply the change to our personal database on our development machine. We don't create indexes or constraints on the models, they are applied explicitly on the database. I would like to know what are some strategies to maintain database schemas and if ours is seems reasonable. Thanks!

    I am using acts_as_taggable_on for assigning 'fixed' categories as well as free' tags to a Company model. My question is how I can pass the correct tag Context for the two different kinds of tags in the form view. For instance, I would like the user to click all the "sector" categories that apply to a company, and then be freely allowed to add additional tags. At this point, the only way I have gotten this to work is through the company model (inspired by this question): # models/company.rb class Company ... acts_as_taggable_on :sectors, :tags has_many :sector_tags, :through => :taggings, :source => :tag, has_many :taggings, :as => :taggable, :include => :tag, :class_name => "ActsAsTaggableOn::Tagging", :conditions => { :taggable_type => "Company", :context => "sectors" } ... end in the form (using the simple_form gem) I have... # views/companies/_form.html.haml = simple_form_for @company do |f| = f.input :name = f.association :sector_tags, :as => :check_boxes, :hint => "Please click all that apply" = f.input :tag_list But this obviously causes the two tag types ("sectors" and "tags") to be of the same "sectors" context which is not what I want. Can anyone hint at how I can pass the relevant Context ("sectors") in the form where the user assigns the sector tags? Or maybe I can pass it in the "has_many :sector_tags ..." line in the Company model? A related question is if this is a good way to do it at all? Would I be better off just using a Category model for assigning sector tags through a joint model? Thanks!

  • Rotate a feature Image in Open Layers - ReApply StyleMap to layer.

    I have an open layers map. It adds and removes my "imageFeature" every 10secs or so. I have a JSON feed that gives me the rotation that I need, I have a request to get that rotation and set it as a variable of rotationv. Everything works but the fact when the image is recreated it does not update the rotation. My code is as follows: JSON request: var rotationv = (function () { rotationv = null; $.ajax({ 'async': false, 'global': true, 'url': urldefault, 'dataType': "json", 'success': function (data) { rotationv = data.rotation; } }); return rotationv })(); Creating image feature: imageFeature = new OpenLayers.Feature.Vector( new OpenLayers.Geometry.Point(mylon, mylat), { rotation: rotationv } ); The image is set in the styling elsewhere. Why does this not rotate my image? Debugging with firebug I now notice that "rotationv" is updating as per it should be. But when the point is destroyed then added again it does not apply the new rotation... Add: I realised that the "image" is applied as per the layer. So I need to figure out how to re apply the stylemap to the layer so it will trigger the "update" on the page. //redefine layer 2 so it can be updated - test.js is just a 0.0 ref// var layer2 = new OpenLayers.Layer.GML("Layer 2", "test.js", { format: OpenLayers.Format.GeoJSON, styleMap: styleMap }); But even if I add the above into my function still no luck.     I am making a change to Perl/Tk for an application that has its own resident Perl and modules installation (so we can drop the app in and go).     I'm using Jackson 1.9.2 with the XML databind module. I need to tweak the way that Jackson serializes arrays, lists, collections. By default, with an int array property called myProperty containing a couple numbers, Jackson / XML is producing the following: <myProperty> <myProperty>1</myProperty> <myProperty>2</myProperty> </myProperty> What I need to produce is: <myProperty> <item>1</item> <item>2</item> </myProperty> I can do this on a per-POJO basis using a combination of JacksonXmlElementWrapper and JacksonXmlProperty like so: @JacksonXmlElementWrapper(localname='myProperty') @JacksonXmlProperty(localname='item') public int[] myProperty; This solution, however, would require that I manually apply these annotations to every array, list, collection in my POJOs. A much better solution would allow me to apply a solution once, globally, for all array, list, collection types. Any ideas on how to implement such a solution? Thanks!

    I am just learning Clojure and am having trouble moving my code into different files. I keep detting this error from the appnrunner.clj - Exception in thread "main" java.lang.Exception: Unable to resolve symbol: -run-application in this context It seems to be finding the namespaces fine, but then not seeing the Vars as being bound... Any idea how to fix this?   • CSS compilers and converting IE hacks to conditional css

    Skip to bottom for question, but first, a little context. So I have been looking into CSS compilers (like Sass & Less) for a while, and have been really interested in them, not because they help me understand anything easier (I've been doing css for a couple of years now) but rather they cut down on cruft and help me see things easier. I recently have been looking into reliably implementing inline-block (and clearfix), which require lots of extraneous code & hacks. Now according to all the authorities in the field, I shouldn't put IE hacks in the same page I do my CSS in, I should make them conditional. But for me that is a really big hassle to go through and manage all this additional code, which is why I really like things like Less. Instead of applying unsemantic classes, you specify a mixin and apply it once, and you're all set. So I guess I got a little of the track (I wanted to explain my points) but bascially, I'm at the point where these CSS compilers are very useful for me, and allow me to abstract a lot of the cruft away, and reliably apply them once and then just compile it. I would like to have a way to be able to compile IE specific styles into their own conditional files (ala Less / Sass) so I don't have to deal with managing 2 files for no reason. Does anything like a script/applcation that runs and can make underscore / star hacks apart of their own file exist?

How does the syntax (_: A, _: B) define the function (A, B) => C which the 2nd method expects? It doesn't even define an output via =>
