• I need a script to lockdown the system time to users via gpedit.msc

  I need to lockdown the system time on a number of PCs via gpedit.msc and then removing administrators from the group and then adding 'administrator' and 'polling'. Can I do this via a script? Essentially I have to; Run gpedit.msc Computer Configuration Windows Settings Security Settings Local Policies User Rights Assignment Double Click Change the system time Select Administrators Click Remove Click Add User or Group Type Administrator Click Check Names Type polling Click Check Names OK Apply OK Logoff I have to do this for a huge number of computers so is there a batch file I could run on each PC to do this?   Ever since a windows update that took down my IIS6 mail server a few weeks back, I've been really paranoid about my mail server working. So every time I run a windows update I fire up command prompt and send myself a quick test mail. Like so: > telnet localhost 25 > helo domain.com > mail from: [email protected] > rcpt to: [email protected] > data some random body to mail myself . This is a realy great way to test my mail server, but it's a pain in the neck to do quickly. Is there anyway i can run this in a batch script or something as a quick test? I've tried a bat file but this just waits after i call telnet I've also explored if telnet accepts any input files and it does not seem to. What's the best way to do this?

• I want to run a script when known bluetooth device connects/disconnects to WinXP

  I have a laptop on my desk at work. I have screensaver timer enabled, so if I'm not using the computer for ten minutes, it will start the screensaver. I also have "On resume, password protect" option checked. This is useful and I want it to be so. However, sometimes I just sit at my cubicle and read some documents without touching the computer. During that time I want my computer to know that I'm there and that there is no need to start the screensaver. I have a mobile phone that is bluetooth paired with the laptop for synchronizing calendars. Is there some way for a script or a program to know that any (or specified) paired device is connected? While typing this out I thought that there might be some registry entries for this. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? -Rope

  What is the best way to pass parameters to a forked script securely? E. g. passing parameters through command line operands is not secure, since someone who has an account on the host can run ps and see them. Unnamed pipe is quite secure, as far as I understand, isn't it? I mean, passing parameters to STDIN of the forked process. What about passing parameters in environment vars? Is it secure? What about passing parameters by other means I didn't mention?

• Script or Utility to convert .nab to .csv without importing double entries in Outlook

  Currently our environment is migrating from Groupwise 7 to Outlook 2003 and we have multiple users with mission critical outside contacts in their frequent contacts that will have to be imported in Outlook. Currently our only solution is to export GW contacts to a .nab, import to excel to scrub out the contacts in our own domain (to avoid double entry) and convert to .csv. This current solution will require a lot of man hours for hand holding because most of our users are not technically savvy AT ALL and are frankly too busy to do this themselves. Anyone know of any kind of tool or script to assist with this?

• Startup script for Windows Recovery Environment?

  I'm trying to automate the Windows 7 Recovery Environment. I want the computer to be able to boot into the Recovery Environment, automatically run some commands, and then restart back into Windows. The reason for this is that I want to use the Recovery Environment to edit some system files that are not writable while Windows is running. (Of course, this could be done using GRUB and Linux, but it would be even better if one could use the built-in Windows Recovery Environment and avoid the need to install a separate bootloader and OS.) So far, I've found out how to tell Windows 7 to reboot into the recovery environment: reagentc /boottore shutdown /r /t 0 But once the Recovery Environment loads, it opens a dialog that requires user input to continue. Instead of that dialog, I would like to be able to specify a script to run instead. Any ideas on how to accomplish this would be appreciated. Thanks!

• Execute script before shutting down in Ubuntu

  When I shut down my computer I want to show some pending tasks that I have to do before leaving the office... I did a local application to manage those tasks, so basically I just want to run a command, and shut down after I kill the app executed. I have already tried with these options: * /etc/gdm/PostSession/Default -- this works only when I select LogOut option instead Shutdown. * /etc/rc0.d/K01mycustomscript -- execute script after X is killed * $HOME/.bash_logout -- This looks like does nothing. * ./app-to-run && sudo shutdown -h now -- Don't like it for 2 reasons, prompts for sudo password, and can't use my laptop shutdown button. I am using Ubuntu 10.04

• Start a VPN session using a Terminal script

  I use an OSX Terminal session to start a VPN connection. The command that I execute at the prompt is: /etc/netlock/cvc -c :: This works as expected. I would like to save this to a script file that I can simply double-click to start. I created a file, 'vpn.command', added the command (list above), save it, and given execute permission: chmod +x vpn.command When I double-click the file, Terminal opens a BASH shell, executes the command, then exits. Upon closer inspection, the command is now '/etc/netlock/cvc -c ::; exit;' Why is the extra '; exit;' appended to my command? BTW, is there a way to execute another command, /etc/netlock/cvc -d, when the Terminal session is being closed so I can close the VPN automatically?

• CentOS 6 init script doesn't work properly

  I'm setting up my ruby production server based on CentOS 6. I need a process called god (which is a process monitoring tool) to start at boot. I'm using an init script that I found here. Just as stated in the guide I ran: chkconfig --add god and then chkconfig --level 345 god on After this if I run "service god start|restart" everything works. It loads the available configurations and brings up the related processes (if they are not running). Problem is it doesn't work at boot. If I reboot the system, then I do "ps -aux | grep god". At this point "god" is running but apparently it didn't load the configuration files. If i run again service god restart, it loads everything without problems. What am I doing wrong?

  I am using automongobackup to, well, automate the backups of mongodb. output from the script (to STDERR) has the following exceptions (but the backup completes, and the dump files are created) ###### WARNING ###### STDERR written to during mongodump execution. If I run mongodump --host=127.0.0.1:27017 --journal (which is the effective command from automongobackup based on the options set and my reading of the src code) everything runs clean without any error reporting and the dump files are created as expected. Why would automongobackup report connection errors, even tho it does create the dump files, yet a straight call to mongodump does not? • Script for creating directories and subdirectories on SBS 2008

  I have a small business server 2008 and have a directory named LAWFILES. I have a 6 digit file system (eg 106568) and I create a directory to store anything to do with the file (documents, outlook emails, PDFs, WAV files, ect.) I group 100 files in a 4 digit directory (eg 1065) for quicker access. My new years resolution is to organize these directories. I used to have a script the batch created directories and sub directories but it didn't work the last time I tried it (2 years ago). I would like to run a batch file that would ask for the 4 digit directory name (eg 1065) and then create that directory and 100 subdirectories (106500 - 106599) each of which contained subdirectories named "Documents," "Correspondence" & "Email-Voicemail" Can anyone suggest where I would go to find a scripting language that would be available to accomplish this? • Why does this PowerShell script hang?

  Today I had to use Start-Sleep many times so I thought I would create a shortcut function for it, sleep($time). However, whenever I entered the function it never exits! It must be an issue with either the data type for the argument for Start-Sleep or the way I am declaring the function. • Shell script to fix bad filenames? [closed]

  I'm IT at my small firm; and, despite my dire warnings, everyone puts files on the server with awful names, including leading & trailing spaces, bad characters (including \ ; / + . < > - etc!) They do this by accessing the (FreeBSD/FreeNAS) server via AFP on Macs, so no part of the system complains. Is there a script I can use to go through an entire directory tree and fix bad filenames? Basically replace all spaces & bad ASCII with _ ... and if a file already exists, just slap a _2 or something on the end. I don't suppose there's a way to get the system to enforce good filenaming conventions, is there?

• Need a GUI app for group policy login script

  I wrote a C# 4.0 application that works on a Windows computer but when using Group Policy to set it as a login script, it does not run. The application is being called from the same location and using rsop.msc shows that the application should be run. I see that using C# 4.0 may be a little overkill for this purpose, but it just seems wrong to write a VB6 application to do the same thing. The requirements for the application states that there need to be specific GUI elements that can't be just text on the window. I need larger fonts and color elements. Is there something more appropriate (and current) that I should be using?

• Prompt for credentials in a batch script

  I am trying to perform a network copy of files via a batch script. However, as usual there are some networks where the 'copy' command fails saying 'Bad username or password'. And when I try using xcopy, it never works. I have also tried using, net use \\server\ password /user:domain\username net use \\server\ipc$ /user:domain\username password But none of these work. Any ideas on how I can accomplish this? I was also wondering if it is possible to prompt the ususal Windows login dialog for this...(just an idea) Any leads on this would be highly appreciated. • Script to restart BlackBerry services

  Can somebody give me a script advice/example of how to restart services? I have to restart 17 services, but the first 4 services have to be in the right order and after the restart command is given to one of the services, the next one should be started when the previous one is finished. I know I can restart a service by net command, and I can build a delay by for example a ping command that repeats for an x amount of times, but I never know in advance how long it is going to take for a service to restart.   I would like to have these commands run as the ss user from root mkdir bin cp -r /opt/gitolite . gitolite/install -ln gitolite setup -pk ss.pub mkdir -p .gitolite/hooks/common ln -s /opt/pre-receive .gitolite/hooks/common/ so everything is executed in /home/ss. The 4th line requires $HOME/bin as you can see from the 3rd line. The only way I can get it to work is by adding su -c "command" ss to each line, which is not a nice hack. This is an extension to my previous question, where I wasn't precise enough. Question How do I run all these commands as a script in a practical way?

  I have a Windows XP machine that runs two applications and both print on a thermal printer connected by a serial port. For one application, the "Generic / Text Only" printer must be present, for the other to work I need to remove it. I've found a few .vbs scripts, but they are for network printer. How do I make them work with my local printer? Is there a better solution? The user would have to run the script every time he needs to switch from an application to another.

• SQL Server 2008: Using Multiple dts Ranges to Build a Set of Dates

  I'm trying to build a query for a medical database that counts the number of patients that were on at least one medication from a class of medications (the medications listed below in the FAST_MEDS CTE) and had either: 1) A diagnosis of myopathy (the list of diagnoses in the FAST_DX CTE) 2) A CPK lab value above 1000 (the lab value in the FAST_LABS CTE) and this diagnosis or lab happened AFTER a patient was on a statin. The query I've included below does that under the assumption that once a patient is on a statin, they're on a statin forever. The first CTE collects the ids of patients that were on a statin along with the first date of their diagnosis, the second those with a diagnosis, and the third those with a high lab value. After this I count those that match the above criteria. What I would like to do is drop the assumption that once a patient is on a statin, they're on it for life. The table edw_dm.patient_medications has a column called start_dts and end_dts. This table has one row for each prescription written, with start_dts and end_dts denoting the start and end date of the prescription. End_dts could be null, which I'll take to assume that the patient is currently on this medication (it could be a missing record, but I can't do anything about this). If a patient is on two different statins, the start and ends dates can overlap, and there may be multiple records of the same medication for a patient, as in a record showing 3-11-2000 to 4-5-2003 and another for the same patient showing 5-6-2007 to 7-8-2009. I would like to use these two columns to build a query where I'm only counting the patients that had a lab value or diagnosis done during a time when they were already on a statin, or in the first n (say 3) months after they stopped taking a statin. I'm really not sure how to go about rewriting the first CTE to get this information and how to do the comparison after the CTEs are built. I know this is a vague question, but I'm really stumped. Any ideas? As always, thank you in advance. I'm not sure if this is a bad idea and I should run a vanilla MySQl but it seems my current problem is just getting the gem installed. I've seen quite a few of these problems here on stackoverflow but all seem a bit different or have really complicated solutions. Is there something I'm missing? Something simple? Something stupid? I can provide additional info from the out file if necessary. I've read that some people use SQLite for dev and test then MySQL in prod but that sounds like a pretty horrible idea.

  I'm trying to build a Drill down tableview to show the information that I have in a hierachy of arrays and classes. I have 3 classes: class Video { nameVideo, id, description, user... } class Topic {nameTopic, topicID, NSMutableArray videos; } class Category {nameCategory, categoryID, NSMUtableArray topics} And then in my app delegate I defined //AppDelegate.h NSMutableArray categories; The app display the tableView with nameCategory, but then, when I select a row it shows a tableview with 0 rows. If I check, for the second view the NumberOfRowsInSection, it returns me 0.
