  • Rails functional testing without migrations

    The name pretty much says it all. Does anyone know how to accomplish functional testing when you are not using migrations in Rails? I'd be open to any advice or third party libraries (if there are any). I thought of creating my own plugin to address this but it seems like a pretty big task and would rather not do this unless necessary. Thanks in advance.

    Exceptions are wonderful things, but I sometimes worry that I throw too many. Consider this example: Class User { public function User(user){ // Query database for user data if(!user) throw new ExistenceException('User not found'); } } I'd argue that it makes as much sense to simply return false (or set all user data to false in this case), rather than throwing an exception. Which do you prefer?

    Ignoring all the characteristics of each languages and focusing SOLELY on speed, which language is better performance-wise? You'd think this would be a rather simple question to answer, but I haven't found a decent one. I'm aware that some types of operations may be faster with python, and vice-versa, but I cannot find any detailed information on this. Can anyone shed some light on the performance differences?

    My understanding is that Ladner's theorem is basically this: P != NP implies that there exists a set NPI where NPI is not in P and NPI is not NP-complete What happens to this theorem if we assume that P = NP rather than P != NP? We know that if NP Intermediate doesn't exist, then P = NP. But can NP Intermediate exist if P = NP?

    Hi. I am trying to open a few links in a new window using Jquery rather than _blank so my html remains valid. My code looks like this: $(document).ready(function() { $('a[id="external-url"]').click(function(){ $(this).attr('target','_blank'); }); }); This works just fine except when the link is contained within html I have placed on the page using the Jquery load() method. Can anyone explain why and please help with a solution?

  • Using User Controls in FormView templates.

    I find the repetition of sets of controls for each of the EditItemTemplate, InsertItemTemplate, and ItemTemplate templates of a FormView to be tedious and risky, in terms duplicating layout and code etc. I would much rather create a xxxDetails user control, and use this in each template, cutting layout and code location down to one location. However, this introduces several complexities for data binding scenarios. Are there any extablished patterns or practice guides for using user controls in these scenarios?

A.__a = A.__a + 1 # does not work def a(self): return A.__a Can I access the __astatic variable in B? It's possible writing a instead of __a, is this the only way?     Can somebody point me at a good tutorial for py2exe? I've read over the official tutorial but it is rather light on details, compared to all the options one can use when building an executable out of a python script. For the record, my python script uses Python 2.5.2, wxPython/wxWidgets 2.8 and MySQLdb 1.2.2; so if you have specific tips for py2exe with those packages that would be much appreciated (and yes, I've seen the Py2EXE and wxPython page).

  • jQuery AJAX requests with Rails 3

    I'm trying to do a manual jQuery AJAX request the following way: $("#user_plan_id").change(function() { $("#plan_container").load('/plans/' + this.value); }); I have the "rails.js" file included in my header, and a "<%= csrf_meta_tag %". I see from my log that the request IS getting to the server (although without the authenticity token... does rails.js even do this?), but the response is a 302 (Found) rather than 200, and no data actually gets rendered. Any ideas?

    I like using sentry classes in c++, but I seem to have a mental affliction that results in repeatedly writing bugs like the following: { MySentryClass(arg); // ... other code } Needless to say, this fails because the sentry dies immediately after creation, rather than at the end of the scope, as intended. Is there some way to prevent MySentryClass from being instantiated as a temporary, so that the above code either fails to compile, or at least aborts with an error message at runtime?

    Is it possible to have a connection to LotusNotes and use it as a data source for a C# project? We use LN for email/calendar :(... and management wants a web page that would interact with the calendar. I think this can all be done within Notes, but I would much rather do it in .net.     A rather unusual situation perhaps, but I want to specify a private SSH-key to use when executing a shell (git) command from the local computer. Basically like this: git clone [email protected]:TheUser/TheProject.git -key "/home/christoffer/ssh_keys/theuser" Or even better (in Ruby): with_key("/home/christoffer/ssh_keys/theuser") do sh("git clone [email protected]:TheUser/TheProject.git") end I have seen examples of connecting to a remote server with Net::SSH that uses a specified private key, but this is a local command. Is it possible? Thanks

    I have a component inside a JInternalFrame which needs to perform actions when keys are pressed within the JInternalFrame's parenting window. Using InputMap/ActionMap would be ideal, but the getInputMap(WHEN_IN_FOCUSED_WINDOW) of the component returns an InputMap that treats the JInternalFrame as the "focused window", rather than its parenting window. Any solutions or ideas?

    Hi, As far as I know when writing a conditional statement in C such as the following: if ( some_function() == 100 && my_var == 5 ) { //do something } is slower to execute than if ( my_var == 5 && some_function() == 100 ) { //do something } because it's faster to execute the my_var == 5 rather than all of the code in the function ( because if my_var != 5, then the rest of the if statement would not even be executed )...so I am wondering if the same is true for conditional statements in PHP?

  • Are there any MVP Frameworks projects out there?

    MVC is used a number of popular frameworks. To name just a few, Ruby on Rails, ASP.NET MVC, Monorail, Spring MVC. Are there any equivalent frameworks using any variant of MVP? Most of the examples I've found online seem to be custom implementations of the pattern rather than reusable frameworks. Suggestions need not be specific to any particular programming language, my interest is mostly academic.
