  • Is there a more elegant way to apply conditions in nginx?

    - by Ryan Detzel
    Is there a better way to do this? I can't find a way to nest or apply boolean operators to conditions in nginx. Basically if there is a cookie set(non-anonymous user) we want to hit the server. If the cookie is not set and the file exists we want to server the file otherwise hit the server. set $test "D"; if ($http_cookie ~* "session" ) { set $test "${test}C"; } if (-f $request_filename/index.html$is_args$args) { set $test "${test}F"; } if ($test = DF){ rewrite (.*)/ $1/index.html$is_args$args? break; } if ($test = DCF){ proxy_pass http://django; break; } if ($test = DC){ proxy_pass http://django; break; } if ($test = D){ proxy_pass http://django; break; }

  • EC2: map multiple applications to different domains

    - by EsseTi
i'm playing with EC2 and i've been able to create my instance that has a django appliacation on port 80, and a tomcat on 8080. now, with elastic IP i can manage to redirect my domain to django application. now i would like to map subdomains to each tomact applications. for example django app (ec2...:80) --> mydomain.com tomcat (ec2...:8080) --> tomcat.mydomain.com webbapp1 (ec2...:8080/webapp1/) --> webapp1.mydomain.com is this possible with the free account? ciao

  • Java and C# in web development [on hold]

    - by azalut
I am wondering whether C# development(ASP.NET) is rather kind of "rapid development" or something "big" like JavaEE/Spring? We all know, that RoR or Django are really rapid-development frameworks - and so - is C# closer to Java "long-timed-development" or to frameworks like the two above - Django, RoR? I am, for now, an amateur Java programmer and sometimes I get annoyed with the amount of code that have to be written to create even a short CRUD app. We need a lot of skills to create at least a small app. I want some change, at least for some time and learn something new. I tried (just few hours) first: RoR, then Django and now I am writing in C#. It seems to be like Java but a little bit extended. In respect of future work as a professional coder - Is it profitable to know both competitive technologies like Java (and its frameworks) and C# with .NET(ASP.NET for example)? Maybe better choice is Python? Or just stop being stupid and still work with Java but with another framework(and master my Java skills) or JavaScript, jQuery to be better at web-development? Actually this question depends on your own opinions that is why I know that this question could be blocked by admins. But main question is in the top of the post I mean: is C# web-development rapid or closer to Java? I am afraid, that if I don't try, I will regret in the future, when I awake and think: oh my god, how could I not get familiar with (another_technology_or_language) Thanks for your attention :) ps I had asked the same question on stackoverflow, but it was hold because of being opinion based. Hope it fits here ;)

  • Host AngularJS (Html5Mode) in ASP.NET vNext

    - by Shaun
Originally posted on: http://geekswithblogs.net/shaunxu/archive/2014/06/10/host-angularjs-html5mode-in-asp.net-vnext.aspxMicrosoft had announced ASP.NET vNext in BUILD and TechED recently and as a developer, I found that we can add features into one ASP.NET vNext application such as MVC, WebAPI, SignalR, etc.. Also it's cross platform which means I can host ASP.NET on Windows, Linux and OS X.   If you are following my blog you should knew that I'm currently working on a project which uses ASP.NET WebAPI, SignalR and AngularJS. Currently the AngularJS part is hosted by Express in Node.js while WebAPI and SignalR are hosted in ASP.NET. I was looking for a solution to host all of them in one platform so that my SignalR can utilize WebSocket. Currently AngularJS and SignalR are hosted in the same domain but different port so it has to use ServerSendEvent. It can be upgraded to WebSocket if I host both of them in the same port.   Host AngularJS in ASP.NET vNext Static File Middleware ASP.NET vNext utilizes middleware pattern to register feature it uses, which is very similar as Express in Node.js. Since AngularJS is a pure client side framework in theory what I need to do is to use ASP.NET vNext as a static file server. This is very easy as there's a build-in middleware shipped alone with ASP.NET vNext. Assuming I have "index.html" as below. 1: <html data-ng-app="demo"> 2: <head> 3: <script type="text/javascript" src="angular.js" /> 4: <script type="text/javascript" src="angular-ui-router.js" /> 5: <script type="text/javascript" src="app.js" /> 6: </head> 7: <body> 8: <h1>ASP.NET vNext with AngularJS</h1> 9: <div> 10: <a href="javascript:void(0)" data-ui-sref="view1">View 1</a> | 11: <a href="javascript:void(0)" data-ui-sref="view2">View 2</a> 12: </div> 13: <div data-ui-view></div> 14: </body> 15: </html> And the AngularJS JavaScript file as below. Notices that I have two views which only contains one line literal indicates the view name. 1: 'use strict'; 2:  3: var app = angular.module('demo', ['ui.router']); 4:  5: app.config(['$stateProvider', '$locationProvider', function ($stateProvider, $locationProvider) { 6: $stateProvider.state('view1', { 7: url: '/view1', 8: templateUrl: 'view1.html', 9: controller: 'View1Ctrl' }); 10:  11: $stateProvider.state('view2', { 12: url: '/view2', 13: templateUrl: 'view2.html', 14: controller: 'View2Ctrl' }); 15: }]); 16:  17: app.controller('View1Ctrl', function ($scope) { 18: }); 19:  20: app.controller('View2Ctrl', function ($scope) { 21: }); All AngularJS files are located in "app" folder and my ASP.NET vNext files are besides it. The "project.json" contains all dependencies I need to host static file server. 1: { 2: "dependencies": { 3: "Helios" : "0.1-alpha-*", 4: "Microsoft.AspNet.FileSystems": "0.1-alpha-*", 5: "Microsoft.AspNet.Http": "0.1-alpha-*", 6: "Microsoft.AspNet.StaticFiles": "0.1-alpha-*", 7: "Microsoft.AspNet.Hosting": "0.1-alpha-*", 8: "Microsoft.AspNet.Server.WebListener": "0.1-alpha-*" 9: }, 10: "commands": { 11: "web": "Microsoft.AspNet.Hosting server=Microsoft.AspNet.Server.WebListener server.urls=http://localhost:22222" 12: }, 13: "configurations" : { 14: "net45" : { 15: }, 16: "k10" : { 17: "System.Diagnostics.Contracts": "4.0.0.0", 18: "System.Security.Claims" : "0.1-alpha-*" 19: } 20: } 21: } Below is "Startup.cs" which is the entry file of my ASP.NET vNext. What I need to do is to let my application use FileServerMiddleware. 1: using System; 2: using Microsoft.AspNet.Builder; 3: using Microsoft.AspNet.FileSystems; 4: using Microsoft.AspNet.StaticFiles; 5:  6: namespace Shaun.AspNet.Plugins.AngularServer.Demo 7: { 8: public class Startup 9: { 10: public void Configure(IBuilder app) 11: { 12: app.UseFileServer(new FileServerOptions() { 13: EnableDirectoryBrowsing = true, 14: FileSystem = new PhysicalFileSystem(System.IO.Path.Combine(AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory, "app")) 15: }); 16: } 17: } 18: } Next, I need to create "NuGet.Config" file in the PARENT folder so that when I run "kpm restore" command later it can find ASP.NET vNext NuGet package successfully. 1: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> 2: <configuration> 3: <packageSources> 4: <add key="AspNetVNext" value="https://www.myget.org/F/aspnetvnext/api/v2" /> 5: <add key="NuGet.org" value="https://nuget.org/api/v2/" /> 6: </packageSources> 7: <packageSourceCredentials> 8: <AspNetVNext> 9: <add key="Username" value="aspnetreadonly" /> 10: <add key="ClearTextPassword" value="4d8a2d9c-7b80-4162-9978-47e918c9658c" /> 11: </AspNetVNext> 12: </packageSourceCredentials> 13: </configuration> Now I need to run "kpm restore" to resolve all dependencies of my application. Finally, use "k web" to start the application which will be a static file server on "app" sub folder in the local 22222 port.   Support AngularJS Html5Mode AngularJS works well in previous demo. But you will note that there is a "#" in the browser address. This is because by default AngularJS adds "#" next to its entry page so ensure all request will be handled by this entry page. For example, in this case my entry page is "index.html", so when I clicked "View 1" in the page the address will be changed to "/#/view1" which means it still tell the web server I'm still looking for "index.html". This works, but makes the address looks ugly. Hence AngularJS introduces a feature called Html5Mode, which will get rid off the annoying "#" from the address bar. Below is the "app.js" with Html5Mode enabled, just one line of code. 1: 'use strict'; 2:  3: var app = angular.module('demo', ['ui.router']); 4:  5: app.config(['$stateProvider', '$locationProvider', function ($stateProvider, $locationProvider) { 6: $stateProvider.state('view1', { 7: url: '/view1', 8: templateUrl: 'view1.html', 9: controller: 'View1Ctrl' }); 10:  11: $stateProvider.state('view2', { 12: url: '/view2', 13: templateUrl: 'view2.html', 14: controller: 'View2Ctrl' }); 15:  16: // enable html5mode 17: $locationProvider.html5Mode(true); 18: }]); 19:  20: app.controller('View1Ctrl', function ($scope) { 21: }); 22:  23: app.controller('View2Ctrl', function ($scope) { 24: }); Then let's went to the root path of our website and click "View 1" you will see there's no "#" in the address. But the problem is, if we hit F5 the browser will be turn to blank. This is because in this mode the browser told the web server I want static file named "view1" but there's no file on the server. So underlying our web server, which is built by ASP.NET vNext, responded 404. To fix this problem we need to create our own ASP.NET vNext middleware. What it needs to do is firstly try to respond the static file request with the default StaticFileMiddleware. If the response status code was 404 then change the request path value to the entry page and try again. 1: public class AngularServerMiddleware 2: { 3: private readonly AngularServerOptions _options; 4: private readonly RequestDelegate _next; 5: private readonly StaticFileMiddleware _innerMiddleware; 6:  7: public AngularServerMiddleware(RequestDelegate next, AngularServerOptions options) 8: { 9: _next = next; 10: _options = options; 11:  12: _innerMiddleware = new StaticFileMiddleware(next, options.FileServerOptions.StaticFileOptions); 13: } 14:  15: public async Task Invoke(HttpContext context) 16: { 17: // try to resolve the request with default static file middleware 18: await _innerMiddleware.Invoke(context); 19: Console.WriteLine(context.Request.Path + ": " + context.Response.StatusCode); 20: // route to root path if the status code is 404 21: // and need support angular html5mode 22: if (context.Response.StatusCode == 404 && _options.Html5Mode) 23: { 24: context.Request.Path = _options.EntryPath; 25: await _innerMiddleware.Invoke(context); 26: Console.WriteLine(">> " + context.Request.Path + ": " + context.Response.StatusCode); 27: } 28: } 29: } We need an option class where user can specify the host root path and the entry page path. 1: public class AngularServerOptions 2: { 3: public FileServerOptions FileServerOptions { get; set; } 4:  5: public PathString EntryPath { get; set; } 6:  7: public bool Html5Mode 8: { 9: get 10: { 11: return EntryPath.HasValue; 12: } 13: } 14:  15: public AngularServerOptions() 16: { 17: FileServerOptions = new FileServerOptions(); 18: EntryPath = PathString.Empty; 19: } 20: } We also need an extension method so that user can append this feature in "Startup.cs" easily. 1: public static class AngularServerExtension 2: { 3: public static IBuilder UseAngularServer(this IBuilder builder, string rootPath, string entryPath) 4: { 5: var options = new AngularServerOptions() 6: { 7: FileServerOptions = new FileServerOptions() 8: { 9: EnableDirectoryBrowsing = false, 10: FileSystem = new PhysicalFileSystem(System.IO.Path.Combine(AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory, rootPath)) 11: }, 12: EntryPath = new PathString(entryPath) 13: }; 14:  15: builder.UseDefaultFiles(options.FileServerOptions.DefaultFilesOptions); 16:  17: return builder.Use(next => new AngularServerMiddleware(next, options).Invoke); 18: } 19: } Now with these classes ready we will change our "Startup.cs", use this middleware replace the default one, tell the server try to load "index.html" file if it cannot find resource. The code below is just for demo purpose. I just tried to load "index.html" in all cases once the StaticFileMiddleware returned 404. In fact we need to validation to make sure this is an AngularJS route request instead of a normal static file request. 1: using System; 2: using Microsoft.AspNet.Builder; 3: using Microsoft.AspNet.FileSystems; 4: using Microsoft.AspNet.StaticFiles; 5: using Shaun.AspNet.Plugins.AngularServer; 6:  7: namespace Shaun.AspNet.Plugins.AngularServer.Demo 8: { 9: public class Startup 10: { 11: public void Configure(IBuilder app) 12: { 13: app.UseAngularServer("app", "/index.html"); 14: } 15: } 16: } Now let's run "k web" again and try to refresh our browser and we can see the page loaded successfully. In the console window we can find the original request got 404 and we try to find "index.html" and return the correct result.   Summary In this post I introduced how to use ASP.NET vNext to host AngularJS application as a static file server. I also demonstrated how to extend ASP.NET vNext, so that it supports AngularJS Html5Mode. • Apache console accesses network drives, service does not?

    - by danspants
I have an apache 2.2 server running Django. We have a network drive T: which we need constant access to within our Django app. When running Apache as a service, we cannot access this drive, as far as any django code is concerned the drive does not exist. If I add... <Directory "t:/"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride None Order allow, deny allow from all </Directory> to the httpd.conf file the service no longer runs, but I can start apache as a console and it works fine, Django can find the network drive and all is well. Why is there a difference between the console and the service? Should there be a difference? I have the service using my own log on so in theory it should have the same access as I do. I'm keen to keep it running as a service as it's far less obtrusive when I'm working on the server (unless there's a way to hide the console?). Any help would be most appreciated.

  • python-imaging and libjpeg on FreeBSD

    - by valya
Hello! I had a problem with image uploading to Django with FreeBSD, so I asked on SO: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1959447/django-uploading-image-error and got an answer. Our admin can't install these libraries, he don't know how. Neither do I. It's FreeBSD, kinda unfamiliar system. So, how do we install PIL with JPEG support and whatever needed for image uploading?

  • Apache2 return 404 for proxy requests before reaching WSGI

    - by Alejandro Mezcua
I have a Django app running under Apache2 and mod_wsgi and, unfortunately, lots of requests trying to use the server as a proxy. The server is responding OK with 404 errors but the errors are generated by the Django (WSGI) app, which causes a high CPU usage. If I turn off the app and let Apache handle the response directly (send a 404), the CPU usage drops to almost 0 (mod_proxy is not enabled). Is there a way to configure Apache to respond directly to this kind of requests with an error before the request hits the WSGI app? I have seen that maybe mod_security would be an option, but I'd like to know if I can do it without it. EDIT. I'll explain it a bit more. In the logs I have lots of connections trying to use the server as a web proxy (e.g. connections like GET http://zzz.zzz/ HTTP/1.1 where zzz.zzz is an external domain, not mine). This requests are passed on to mod_wsgi which then return a 404 (as per my Django app). If I disable the app, as mod_proxy is disabled, Apache returns the error directly. What I'd finally like to do is prevent Apache from passing the request to the WSGI for invalid domains, that is, if the request is a proxy request, directly return the error and not execute the WSGI app. EDIT2. Here is the apache2 config, using VirtualHosts files in sites-enabled (i have removed email addresses and changed IPs to xxx, change the server alias to sample.sample.xxx). What I'd like is for Apache to reject any request that doesn't go to sample.sample.xxx with and error, that is, accept only relative requests to the server or fully qualified only to the actual ServerAlias. default: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName X.X.X.X ServerAlias X.X.X.X DocumentRoot /var/www/default <Directory /> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None </Directory> <Directory /var/www/> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None Order allow, deny allow from all </Directory> ErrorDocument 404 "404" ErrorDocument 403 "403" ErrorDocument 500 "500" ErrorLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/error.log LogLevel warn CustomLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/access.log combined </VirtualHost> actual host: <VirtualHost *:80> ErrorDocument 404 "404" ErrorDocument 403 "403" ErrorDocument 500 "500" WSGIScriptAlias / /var/www/sample.sample.xxx/django.wsgi ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerAlias sample.sample.xxx ServerName sample.sample.xxx CustomLog /var/www/sample.sample.xxx/log/sample.sample.xxx-access.log combined Alias /robots.txt /var/www/sample.sample.xxx/static/robots.txt Alias /favicon.ico /var/www/sample.sample.xxx/static/favicon.ico AliasMatch ^/([^/]*\.css) /var/www/sample.sample.xxx/static/$1 Alias /static/ /var/www/sample.sample.xxx/static/ Alias /media/ /var/www/sample.sample.xxx/media/ <Directory /var/www/sample.sample.xxx/static/> Order deny, allow Allow from all </Directory> <Directory /var/www/sample.sample.xxx/media/> Order deny, allow Allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost>

  • Can I have both apache and nginx serve my websites?

    - by Marconi
I have an existing apache serving a couple of sites. Now I have a new django site that's ajax intensive and so I'm planning to run it on apache's mod_wsgi but I'll use nginx as a reverse proxy. Is it possible to have nginx be a reverse proxy to this new django site while make apache serve the other sites directly without using nginx? Also if you can give me a rough setup on how I might do it if its possible.

  • Ideas for web development practical jokes?

    - by Ellie P.
I am a web developer for a Django-based site for a student organization, and I have the opportunity to make the website temporarily absurd for a day of general campus-wide debauchery and chaos (long story, doesn't matter.) What are your best ideas for web development practical jokes (that you could never use in the real world)? For example, one idea we had was to use a client-side script to convert each character to its upside down equivalent in Unicode, si?? ??i? ?ui????os. I'm not necessarily looking for Django-specific solutions. I imagine most of these things would happen on the front-end. I am also quite aware that usability will suffer considerably--the point is to be fun for a day, and there will always be a link to the normal version of the site. Also, everything must be relatively cosmetic and easily reversible--I'm happy to swap out static CSS/JS/HTML/templates/images, and even temporarily add a django view, but no messing with the data level!

  • Apache2 several sites and configuration question

    - by Hellnar
Hello I want to host several sites from my VPS via apache2 under Debian. For this I removed the default from sites-enabled and added this under /etc/apache/sites-enabled/www.mysite.com : NameVirtualHost *:80 <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName mysite.com ServerAlias www.mysite.com Alias /media/ /home/myuser/mysite/media/ Alias /admin_media/ /home/myuser/django/Django-1.2/django/contrib/admin/media/ WSGIScriptAlias / /home/myuser/mysite/wsgi.py ErrorLog /home/myuser/mysite/logs/error.log CustomLog /home/myuser/mysite/logs/access.log combined </VirtualHost> After that I removed the default symbolic link from sites-enabled/ via: a2dissite default and added the new one: a2ensite www.mysite.com Still, I get this error: Restarting web server: apache2apache2: apr_sockaddr_info_get() failed for myuser apache2: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.0.1 for ServerName [Sat May 29 11:41:13 2010] [warn] NameVirtualHost *:80 has no VirtualHosts apache2: apr_sockaddr_info_get() failed for myuser apache2: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.0.1 for ServerName [Sat May 29 11:41:13 2010] [warn] NameVirtualHost *:80 has no VirtualHosts . • Can jQuery retrieve a file?

    - by danspants
I have a django application that creates xls and txt files. I'm trying to create a button which sends a jQuery.get request to django, django then returns a freshly created file to jQuery which in turn pops open a save as dialog. My code looks like this: jQuery("#testButton").live("click",function() { jQuery.jGrowl("click"); jQuery.get("/filetest",function(data){}); }); <div id="testButton" class="button">CLICK TO TEST</div> Getting the file to jQuery is easy, but I have no idea how to then raise a Save As dialog. Any assistance would be fantastic!

  • Static Website - Converting to Dynamic, need to import information from database on different host

    - by gvernold
This seems really complicated to ask about so I hope someone can help: We have a long time running static website held with a hosting company that provide PHP, Ruby-on-Rails and Drupal/Joomla support. A little limited I know but we got reasonably decent search engine rankings and didn't want them to drop. We have two much more recently created sites on another host written in Python/Django. The original site is now too big to handle statically and we want to create a more dynamic site in its place without changing servers/webhosts. The data we want to provide the 'new' dynamic site is from the same database providing the Django sites. What is the best solution to build the new site with? Is it better to create PHP pages that connect to the database on the other host? Ruby-on-rails seems like a very fast development environment not too dissimilar to Django, would we be able to fetch data from the existing databases into a rails site and use similar urls to our old static pages?

  • Is Python good for highload web projects?

    - by Vitali Fokin
Hello! I decidet to start my own web project. It should be highload project, and I can't decide which technologies should I use. I'm good in ASP.NET MVC, but I like languages like Python more than C#. I read a lot about Python and Django/Pylons/etc but I didn't find any good examples of highload projects on python. So, the question is: Is Python good for highload project? Is it enough fast? And if it is, are python frameworks like django/pylons/etc good for this? Or asp.net mvc will be better choice? PS, I'm not interesting in Java, Ruby and PHP :) So, I'm choosing only between Python + django/pylons/etc and asp.net mvc. Thanks in advance. Please, don't make holywars :)

  • Which Python Framework and CMS coming from PHP - Codeigniter+ExpresionEngine?

    - by Joshua Fricke
We are currently developing most of our applications in PHP using CodeIgniter (CI) and ExpressionEngine (EE) and are looking to try our hands at Python. So we are looking for a Framework and ideally a CMS that work well together like the CI+EE combo does. Have done a bit of research, it looks like these are some good suggestions (though we are not limiting to these): Frameworks - http://wiki.python.org/moin/WebFrameworks Django Web2py CMS - http://wiki.python.org/moin/ContentManagementSystems Below picked because they are developed with a Framework (my only frame of reference using CI+EE) Merengue Mezzanine Django CMS Input would be great in helping us decide.

  • Best/Easiest Technology for a RESTful webservice [closed]

    - by user1751547
So I'm going to be creating a phone app + website that will need to utilize a web service. Webservices are completely outside my domain so I'm not entirely sure where to start. Does anybody have any suggestions on the technology stack I should use? (mainly in terms of ease of use and reliability) So far what I've looked at are: RoR Python + Django + TastyPie Python + Flask Microsoft WCF 3.5 PHP + some framework I would rather not do anything with Java I'm leaning towards the Python + Django + TastyPie route as it seems like it would be easy to get up and going and learn in general. My only concern with it is the reliability of the libraries (feature breaking updates, abandonment, etc). Also I would prefer to create the website with the same framework so I wouldn't have to deal with learning and using two different ones. Any advice would be helpful, thanks.

  • What can I use to set up a 100% cloud based python IDE + Hosting environment?

    - by PhD
I'm working a side project and I can't always be on "my" machine to code/deploy the web application. I am aware of various cloud IDEs (e.g., Cloud 9 IDE) and independent Django/Flask etc., hosting services (e.g., Heroku). What is the best way to completely shift my development/deployment environment to the cloud so that I can code/deploy from anywhere? I don't mind using paid services but I'm not sure which cloud IDEs play nice with which hosting services. Has anyone tried this setup before? What has or hasn't worked? • Apache2 config problem

    - by Hellnar
For using my Debian VPS for multiple domains , I did such actions: removed the default one from sites-enabled/ and sites-available/ (config and the symbolic link) and I added this under sites-available/www.mysite.com : <VirtualHost MYIP:80> ServerName mysite.com ServerAlias www.mysite.com Alias /media/ /home/myuser/mysite/media/ Alias /admin_media/ /home/myuser/django/Django-1.2/django/contrib/admin/media/ WSGIScriptAlias / /home/myuser/mysite/wsgi.py ErrorLog /home/myuser/mysite/logs/error.log CustomLog /home/myuser/mysite/logs/access.log combined </VirtualHost> And I have changed my ports.conf to: NameVirtualHost MYIP:80 Listen 80 <IfModule mod_ssl.c> # SSL name based virtual hosts are not yet supported, therefore no # NameVirtualHost statement here Listen 443 </IfModule> Lastly I enabled the new domain via the command: a2ensite www.mysite.com After restart I get this error: myuser:~# /etc/init.d/apache2 restart Restarting web server: apache2apache2: Syntax error on line 281 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Syntax error on line 1 of /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/www.birertek.com: /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/www.birertek.com:1: <VirtualHost> was not closed. failed! Please help this poor soul.

  • Automatically Kill/Restart Process(es) When Memory is Critically Low

    - by nemesisfixx
I have a Debian Wheezy VPS box where am running a couple of Django apps in production. Ideally, would have tried addressed my current memory footprint issues by optimizing the apps, adding more RAM or augmenting with Swap. But the problem is that I doubt there's much memory optimization I'd milk from optimizing the Django apps (the stack being open-source and robust), and adding RAM is a cost constraint for me (this is a remote VPS), also, the host doesn't offer options to use Swap! So, in the meantime (as I wait to secure more resources to afford more RAM), I wish to mitigate the scenarios where the server runs out memory so that I just have to request a VPS restart (as in, at that point, I can't even SSH into the box!). So, what I would love in a solution is the ability to detect when a process (or generally, total system memory usage) exceeds a certain critical amount (for now, example the FREE RAM falls to say 10%) - which I've noticed occurs after the VPS's been up for long, and when also traffic is suddenly much to some of the heavy apps (most are just staging apps anyway). So, I wish to be able to kill/restart the offending process(es) - most likely Apache. Which solution when done manually in these situations has restored sane memory usage levels - a hint that possibly one or more of the Django apps has a memory leak? In brief: Monitor overall system RAM usage When FREE RAM falls below a given critical threshold (say below 10%), kill/restart the offending process(es) - or simpler, if we assume from my current log analysis (using linux-dash) that Apache is often the offender, then kill/restart it. Rinse and repeat...

  • 404 not found error for virtual host

    - by qubit
    Hello, In my /etc/apache2/sites-enabled, i have a file site2.com.conf, which defines a virtual host as follows : <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin hostmaster@wharfage ServerName site2.com ServerAlias www.site2.com site2.com DirectoryIndex index.html index.htm index.php DocumentRoot /var/www LogLevel debug ErrorLog /var/log/apache2/site2_error.log CustomLog /var/log/apache2/site2_access.log combined ServerSignature Off <Location /> Options -Indexes </Location> Alias /favicon.ico /srv/site2/static/favicon.ico Alias /static /srv/site2/static # Alias /media /usr/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/django/contrib/admin/media Alias /admin/media /var/lib/python-support/python2.5/django/contrib/admin/media WSGIScriptAlias / /srv/site2/wsgi/django.wsgi WSGIDaemonProcess site2 user=samj group=samj processes=1 threads=10 WSGIProcessGroup site2 </VirtualHost> I do the following to enable the site : 1) In /etc/apache2/sites-enabled, i run the command a2ensite site2.com.conf 2) I then get a message site successfully enabled, and then i run the command /etc/init.d/apache2 reload. But, if i navigate to www.site2.com, i get 404 not found. I do have an index.html in /var/www (permissions:777 and ownership www-data:www-data), and i have also verified that a symlink was created for site2.com.conf in /etc/apache2/sites-enabled. Any way to fix this ? Thank you.

  • display MultiPolygonField data on Geodjango/OpenLayers

    - by Markos Gogoulos
Hi all, I'm a Geodjango novice and would like to get some help on the following: I have a MultiPolygonField field, for a GeoDjango application, and would like to display it on my view as cool as it gets displayed on django admin Say for example I have def index(request): "Index, main view" border = WorldBorders.objects.get(name='Italy') return render_to_response('world/index.html', {'user': request.user, 'border': border}, context_instance=RequestContext(request)) then on world/index.html, what is the way to display the border, as it would be on django admin? Thanks in advance for all replies!

  • Database migrations for SQL Server

    - by Art
I need a database migration framework for SQL Server, capable of managing both schema changes and data migrations. I guess I am looking for something similar to django's South framework here. Given the fact that South is tightly coupled with django's ORM, and the fact that there's so many ORMs for SQL Server I guess having just a generic migration framework, enabling you to write and execute in controlled and sequential manner SQL data/schema change scripts should be sufficient.
