  Hi I have an project in FCE which was recorded in MPEG-4 video in 1280 x 960 (1,4MB/s) and whenever I import those mov files to FCE thez show just fine. but when i add the clips to the timeline (sequence) the quality is cropped - instead of HD i can onlz export the timeline with quicktime conversion and a resolution of 720 x 480. can anybody help me out and tell me how i can export the timeline in full HD quality (as the raw material itself is)? tried the quick setup and exporting as divx and AIC which doesnt reallz work. the actual video size is HD, but qualitz of the video is like SD...

• Auto backup a user folder to a usb when usb is plugged in

  I'm a computer technician and help customers everyday with their computers and smartphones and have a really basic (i think) request but dont know how to go about it. Customer always come in with broken phones, water damage, needing updates, or just want me to backup their information. I currently have a program that i use when i backup their computers it backups their iOS folder C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup but what i want is a quick easy way to do this in customers houses. What i require is a way when i plug in a USB drive it AUTOMATICALLY searches for the folder and starts transferring the folder to a predefined folder on the USB drive. This was I can just plug it in and begin work on their computer or phone without the risk of losing their information. I'm sure there is a .bat/.ini file i could use but wondering if someone has already done this or something similar as I would need it to search all the USER folders not just the one I'm logged into. • Moving to an outside Exchange provider - How to create new Outlook profile on multiple PCs?

  Following an acquisition we are switching from our local Exchange to an outside provider. I need to change account settings / create new profile so that users are able to access their new mailbox, and I hate the idea of doing it manually on every single client. I have tried quick and dirty solution with copying profile information from Registry on one computer to the other, hoping that I could fix user info later. Quite obviously, this didn't work: Outlook recognized the profile, I could select it at the application startup, but there the fun ends - the profile was corrupt. I couldn't change settings in Mail settings on Control panel, either. Didn't find any Group policy solution. Is there any application, script or other solution, that would help me save time commuting from one PC to the other and typing the same info over and over again?

• How can I make VNC faster?

  I need to remotely access and use my work computer a few times a week. I want to use VNC because of the price. I've used VNC before, mostly on my own network, where it's fast. However, VNC over the internet is incredibly slow. Even at 256 colors and lower, with Aero turned off, it is unbearably slow. I recently used Ammyy Admin to connect to do something requiring a quick reaction time. Ammyy was really fast, with almost no lag, and it was running in full color with Aero on! How can I make VNC faster, like Ammyy is? I'd use Ammyy, but I would probably run into the 15hr/month limit pretty quickly. Any suggestions? [EDIT] I'm currently using UltraVNC.

  Is there any Application for Windows to do next think: I click url in Skype or html file in Explorer. Application is default "fake" browser, i.e. registered as default browser. Application shows several buttons. Each button represents installed or running browser. I can choose real browser, click it and specific url opened in chosen real browser . Quick search not revealed such Application. Context: I work in environment where some sites work in specific browsers. I get clickable urls from different applications. Sometimes I want to launch specific browser to use specific addin of it against url provided. I have specific portable "secured" browser I want to launch only for trusted sites.

  What is the correct way to set up sshwindows for SSH key authentication? Does the user need to be created in Windows first or can a login be inserted into passwd without a Windows equivalent? I've searched on Google and have tried the tutorials and quick start guides. So far, exactly 0 have worked. None pointed out that to work in Windows 2008 R2, you need to change the properties of cygrunsrv.exe to "Windows XP SP3" compability mode to even get past the service startup "error 1067". Although it is running, no amount of configuration allowed me to log on to the SFTP server, even though I tried (from another machine): same user account added using "mkpasswd" + windows password same user account added using "mkpasswd" + public ssh key (added to /home/theuser/.ssh) On Windows 2003 R2 (a different attempt), the service would crash every time it started up. • Root access amazon ec2

  Hey guys, I am very new to linux, and amazon-ec2. I wanted to put a quick server. For some reason, when I sign in with my key pair, it prompts me for a username, I input ec2-user, and I'm in. The problem is that I don't have root access (and can't find the root password). I need to install screen to run the server in the background, and also create a new user, that doesn't have root, to run the server. Neither of which I can do without root.. Any help? • Grub hangs intermittently on "Starting Up..."

  Hi all, I've had this problem for a while now. My linux server is set to wake-on-lan but occasionally it halts at Grubs "Starting Up..." and goes no further. This is not due to additional hardware being attached such as a flash drive or anything as I never plug anything into it. It may boot perfectly 40 times in a row and then hit this issue. Sometimes it gets the issue a couple of times in quick succession and doesn't happen for ages again. I'm not sure how to diagnose it since it doesn't seem to be reproducible. • Pre-load MS Windows right-click menus and Start menu at startup

  Hello brainy people. On my WinXP SP3 laptop (1.4Ghz 1.2GB ram), after I first log in, when I right-click in Windows Explorer and choose New, the submenu can take up to 15 seconds to load, which is a pain in the ass when you want to do a quick easy operation. After the submenu has loaded the first time, subsequent loads perform instantly, obviously as the menu has been cached. My question is: can these right-click menus (and the Start menu, which also takes some time to load the first time) be pre-loaded at Windows startup? Thanks.

  My Google search for ""does installing windows format the hard disk" returns: No results found for "does installing windows format the hard disk". I was quite surprised. I'm hoping to get a quick answer here. Does an install format the hard disk, and destroy all data, including non-os/s data? -Or do you specifically have to say "format" at some point so you know you are losing everything? [I tried to go to SP3, but it doesn't work on my computer. My SP2 disk is fired. I only have a SP1 disk, with a seperate SP2 package. I can't get to Safe Mode to uninstall SP3 ("Windows XP Setup cann run under Safemode. Setup will restart now.). I don't want running the SP1 disk to destroy any non-o/s data.] Thanks.

• App to slice'n'dice video, specifically remove chunks, on a Mac?

  I have a couple of collections of DVD Box-Sets I've ripped to my mac. Now I'd like to sweeten the viewing experience by removing the title sequences and credits so that viewing doesn't mean I have to keep reaching for the remote to skip 30 seconds of annoying music (think watching multiple episodes of Family Guy). If I can find an app that will let me do this reasonably quickly manually that would be great, but it would be perfect if I could dump a load of commands into a file and have everything trimmed while the mac is "inactive". I'm thinking that if I can specify chunks of time to remove from the original file that would be perfect. I had a quick look at importing into iMovie to do it manually and gave up at the "Processing Thumbnails" stage as it said it would be a couple of hours to produce them for a 45min mp4 file, which I can understand at 25fps but I'm not willing to wait, especially when I've got over a week's worth of files. Any suggestions?

• Are there any 17-20 inch monitors that support displayport?

  I've got dual monitors now (both 20 inch 1600x1200). After seeing the new eyefinity cards out there (and reading the CodingHorror post on three monitors) I've decided to get a third. It's time to upgrade my video card anyway. Since I don't already have a third monitor and will be buying one new, I figure it'd make sense to buy one that already had a DisplayPort interface so as to avoid the adapter issue. However, I can't seem to find any monitors on newegg that support this (it's not even an option in the power search, and a keyword search turned up only adapters and video cards). A quick google showed me several 30 inchers (like Dell's, but that's way too expensive, and I don't have that much room on my desk even if I had that money) and some 22 inch models. Again, I'm looking for a 17-20 inch with a DisplayPort interface built in. Any suggestions?

• Reverse proxy with SSL and IP passthrough?

  Turns out that the IP of a much-needed new website is blocked from inside our organization's network for reasons that will take weeks to fix. In the meantime, could we set up a reverse proxy on an Internet-based server which will forward SSL traffic and perhaps client IPs to the external site? Load will be light. No need to terminate SSL on the proxy. We may be able to poison DNS so original URL can work. How do I learn if I need URL rewriting? Squid/apache/nginx/something else? Setup would be fastest on Win 2000, but other OSes are OK if that would help. Simple and quick are good since it's a temporary solution. Thanks for your thoughts!

• Why is "chmod -R 777 /" destructive?

  This is a Canonical Question about File Permission and Why 777 is "destructive". I'm not asking how to fix this problem, as there are a ton of references of that already on Server Fault (reinstall OS). Why does it do anything destructive at all? If you've ever ran this command you pretty much immediately destroy your operating system. I'm not clear why removing restrictions has any impact on existing processes. For example, if I don't have read access to something and after a quick mistype in the terminal suddenly I now have access well... why does that cause Linux to break?

• Real RAM latency

  Hi, very quick question. When I look for RAM timing, I got 2 different explanations on what is CAS latency. First states, its the time after command to read has been issued from CPU and data are send to data bus. Second says its time betwen column in memory layout has been activated. So, where is the truth? I mean, when I want to know total RAM latenci, in case 1, ot would be just CAS times one clock time. In second case, it would be CAS+other things like RAstoCAS and so times one clock time. Thanks.

• Why does deleting from the command line take significantly less time than from a GUI?

  So this is probably the dumbest question you'll read today, but it's something I just wondered about as I was deleting a dozen or so images from my computer. With a quick rm -rf command on the directory's contents, all the images were gone in a snap. When I drag the same dozen or so images to a trash can/recycle ban, it takes sometimes 10 seconds or more. Now I'm sure some of it comes from the overhead of the GUI and such, and some of it may be the fact that the file still "exists" in some form if it's put into the recycle bin, but is there anything else that accounts for such a huge time disparity? Are "rm" and "delete" just such fundamentally different commands so I'm trying to compare apples and oranges? Enlighten me, please!

• Google Chrome Automatically Save Passwords

  I have seen, and at one point implemented, methods of modifying firefox's password manager popup such that it would automatically save usernames and passwords without prompt. I was wondering if there is a similar feature for Chrome. I just recently switched to chrome and it is one of a few features/modifications that didnt survive the transition, and while I am moderately capable in programming in certain languages (C+, visual etc) I don't really feel confident enough to muck around unguided. For anyone that is particularly interested, the other features I miss are things such as the slash based 'quick search' in firefox... and I am currently annoyed by a different right click menu order for opening in new tabs and new windows (the reverse of firefox). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

• Why does my drive show as 180GB used, but copies only 40GB?

  My computer crashed, so I removed the drive (with Windows XP Professional 32-Bit) and put this drive in another computer running Windows 7 64-bit. Booting with Win7, when going to My Computer it is showing the XP drive as more than 180GB used. So as a quick backup, I'm trying to copy all the disk's content to a folder, but when I start copying, it's showing only 40 GB as the total size of the files to copy. I enabled showing system and hidden files in View options. What could be the problem?

• OSSIM - Snort/OSSEC/Nagios Logging Config Question

  Quick n00b OSSIM question. I've looked around but haven't found exactly what I'm looking for. I currently have a Nagios, OSSEC, Nessus, and Snort server and I want to keep those servers active but just ship the logs to the OSSIM server and have it do the correlating and graphing. Can that be done? Everything I've seen is putting the various software functions actually on the OSSIM box but I don't want to do that. I'm running CentOS on all of the systems. Thanks.

• Problem downloading Android SDK?

  So I'm trying to download the Android SDK for Windows from their website but it isn't working. The download seems to proceed without a hitch but something is wrong because the downloaded .zip is only 2-3 MB (size varies), MD5 doesn't match and the file won't open or extract. Obviously the download is corrupt but I have no idea why. A quick google didn't turn up anyone else with this problem to indicate that it might be on the server side. My connection is rock solid and I've never had issues with it so I'm not sure what it could be on my end. I tried downloading the linux version as well and tried using the alternate link, both to no avail. Having recently discovered this amazing community I thought I'd ask here. Any ideas?

• Windows XP, have to use ctrl+alt+delete to log on as local administrator

  Hey, I have a weird issue, a user was was logging into a laptop using the local admin account which was working fine. I had to create another account on the system, which was also an admin account, when this happened the 'administrator' account disappeared from the 'choose an account to login with' screen. A quick workaround is available, if the user presses ctrl+alt+delete it brings you to the screen where you can type in the username and password, so by manually typing 'administrator' it can log in. Normally this would be easily fixed, I figured the admin account had somehow been disabled from the local system, but i checked all settings and it is setup fine. The laptop is not part of a domain, so I used the management console to delete the new account and all that succeeded in doing was making the 'choose an account to log in with' screen display no accounts to choose. So far I see nothing else to fix it, the option to change the default logon screen to style where you type the username and password also seems to be missing. any ideas?

  Here is the scenario: On column A each cell has random text within it (names, address, account numbers, etc). Column A extends down to over 40 thousand rows. On column B I have a list of (account) numbers. Column B extends down to about 5 thousand rows. I need to filter column A to show only the rows that contain the account numbers that are part of column B. Neither column A nor B are in any specific order. • Are there any Powershell modules specifically for IIS6 administration?

  I'm looking to manage/administer many IIS6 servers remotely via Powershell (query sites, iis settings, etc). Is this possible? Is there a Microsoft-supported module out there? Or do I have to use WMI-Object/WebAdministration? If so, could some one give me some quick instructions on doing some simple "get info" commands in Powershell to a remote IIS6 machine? • automatically change the gnome-terminal "title" for the window

  Hi. Trying to change the title of a current gnome-terminal (similar to the "set title" that you can do manually") The system is running Fedora 9. The HowTo Xterm-Title discusses how to set the prompt, for an xterm. Tried to implement the escape sequences with no luck. (might be something weird..) Tried to use the gconftool to dump/change/load the changed conf attributes, and again, no luck. Also, set the PROMPT_COMMAND just in case the prompt command was somehow changing the title back (which is highly doubtful) Searching the 'net indicates that a few people have tried to solve this with no luck... I'd also like to figure out how to create a new gnome-terminal with a unique specified title... once this is solved, i'l gladly create a quick writeup/post onn how to accomplish this for others... thanks
